View Full Version : Few Suggestions

Alright, I have three suggestions for the website.
1) Comic Search Function. If you're looking for an old comic but have no idea where it is in the archive you just type in some keywords and it helps you find it. Also, a search by creator would help too (ex. Find all comics by Matt).
2) Rating comics. I think we should be able to rate the daily comics. Simple enough.
3) Reviewing comics. There should be a little... uhh... guestbook thing under the comic where you could review it and add your two cents.
1) Keywords could work.
2) Could be useful I guess. I personally don't care what others think of the comics but that's just me.
3) The reviewing threads never end up staying around long and an unmodded guest book here would be horribly abused.
I think the search thing could work. Because there's so many comics and the admins wouldn't be able to add tags to each comic by themselves, they should select a couple of people to do it, kinda like mods.
They'd each get a specific amount of comics to add tags too (like 50 each), and then after that they just add tags whenever they get a chance to the daily comics.
Hmmmm?

This'd also mean they'd have to go all the way back and add keywords to over a thousand comic strips.

You could have user tags, and a part time mod to keep them in line.

Or maybe they could just start doing it on upcoming comics. Going way back would be way too much work.

I'll do it, I have tons of time on my hands.
It really wouldn't be that much work to have a group of people go back and do a bit a day then continue to keep up. PvP did just that recently.

Someone made a congratulatory thread about it awhile ago, but they were mistaken. I figured they would've hit 1000 since then, but perhaps not. Either way, it's close.
They were at like 853 or something like that when that was made and it was august 27th's comic. They're about 100 away give or take.

Most comics are about the same thing, the search would be too broad.
Then maybe add thumbnails of comics to the search engine? Make it kinda like an automatic thumbnail generator like what Kwanza did to quoting large images at one time. It really wouldn't be that much work.
Yes but that is what Copyright is saying, Even if there are search engine with thumbnails the keywoard would be to common and you will still ahve to search through alot, Although it would be better then none at all.

Your search AIDZ LOL returned 407 results.
A keyword system might work on some of the comics, but some of them are a bit too random for it to be effective.
I think ideas #2 and #3 are a bit pointless, the guestbook would just be like the old "discuss todays comic" which had in total 4 replies repeated over about 200 pages.
They were "haha, it was funny" "it sucked I miss the old days ragh" "WHY WASN'T THERE A COMIC TODAY FUCK YOU ALL I WANT MY MONEY BACK FUCK" and "how do I submit my comix?".

2) No.
3) No.

The search option sounds pretty good, considering you have to go over 9000 comics to find the comic you want to see.
The rest is just no.

The rating idea is stupid. No one cares how good or bad you think a comic is.

The search function is actually good. This and they should make a "random comic" button. Although this has been discussed.

Weren't they gonna do the tagging thing a while back? They even started to put the keywords under the comics. What happened to it?

The search might be helpful, sometimes I want to look at a certain comic, but can't be assed to look through hundreds of comics for it.
The other two ideas are dumb.

I like the search thing, but your other things make the horrible mistake of thinking the creators really give a shit about what random shmoes on the internet think of them.
A few months they started adding tags to the comics but eventually stopped.
I think they already tried your first idea and it didn't work for some reason.

Didn't somebody already make a random comic generator before the great fail?

If we did have a search function, the Comic Translation Re-Writes would be a perfect chance to give tags to comics, because a bunch of people would already be working on the comics. We would just need another 5 people to do it.

He just posted the code. Anyone who's done coding awhile could do it.

I think they're actually already in the process of adding the search feature. If I'm remembering correctly they added the keywords to a lot of them, and with time it'll be functional. It definitely is going to take more than a few days to go through each individual comic and personally add a few keywords for it.
I dont understand the function of the search feature. It's not like the comics are titled.
I dont understand the function of the search feature. It's not like the comics are titled.
With the search function each comic would be tagged with keywords. Say one is about Seizure Man getting aids, that could be tagged with Aids, Super hero and Seizure Man. Then once it's complete there is a page with all the tags on it, the more frequently occurring keywords are in a larger font. To find all the comics regarding beatings all you do is click beatings and it would bring up every comic tagged with beatings.

The tag system would be alright for when people need to find an old comic. But the tagging system would be best left to admins/elites. That way it'd be consistent and be done by people that have been around a while.
And yeah, your other two ideas sucked. The comments thing would be abused way too much. And I'm not going to go around modding the comments page of 1000 different comics each day.

Fetus, you douche.
That is not their one thousandth comic, they haven't gotten there yet. Its like everyone else said, its about 100 comics away.
The fake 1000th was this http://www.explosm.net/comics/1000/
And the comic you posted had '1015' in the url despite the fact it was less than 15 comics away from the comic with the number 1000 in the url.

Fetus you've been here for a year and you have 999 posts nearly an Explosmateer and you didn't know it wasn't their 1000th comic.I think even a lot of nOObs would know that by now.

You are a tard. The first comic said it was the fifteenth comic in the URL.
The second says it's the 39th, so that theory isn't a very reasonable one. Though to get back on topic i don't really like any of the original suggestions, besides maybe the ability to search through comics.

I vote that Smell's button gets implemented as a major piece of the C&H Daily comic. I saw comics with that that aren't in the normal list.
