When someone makes a shitty post, why not delete it? As it is, a decent thread will all too often get derailed by someone trolling or flaming and the ensuing reacting to it. Cleaning that shit up as part of the process of giving an infraction might be worth the hassle, at least in some cases.

It's like graffiti. If someone tags your garage door, you have less than twenty-four hours to clean it off or paint over it before you have three dozen more tags and a mural in memory of some crackhead who got shot robbing the liquor store on the corner.

It should stay with the infraction tag to serve as an example of what a bad post looks like.

I like this idea. It would make it easier to read a thread if the useless, off topic posts were removed.

How about a Post Dump?

Anybody who is potentially going to make a bad post knows exactly what one looks like. It's not often someone makes a bad post on accident, and even when they do, it's not like they go hunting for other bad posts to better themselves. I agree with BadAnkle, shitty posts derail threads even more, and I don't really see it as being acceptable to flame a bad post that's already been punished just to jack your post count up more. They should be deleted, or if it's a thread in general, dumped.

I used to check the Ban Kamp every time I visited the site. I think its absence has left a void, which is why I think a Thread Dump might be a good idea.

You mean a Post Dump right?

Are you serious?

edit: You meant post dump. Well, as luck would have it, posts get copied over to the "User Dump" as part of the infraction thread.

Yeah, I meant Post Dump. My bad.

Viewing posts via the User Dump is a hassle. I rarely bother, and I doubt anybody else does. But the rules are kind of nebulous at this point, and I think it might help if everyone could see at a glance what sorts of posts were getting infractions. Then they'd know what not to do and what to report.

A few days back I saw a few posts that broke the tables. I once got a TO for that, so I figured I should report it. But the reports I made never resulted in infractions. Since then I've felt less inclined to report anything. I still do it, but I let a lot of stuff go because I don't know if anybody gives a shit about it anymore.

Soft deleting them would be a good idea. It leaves a trace of them being there, but a notice as to why they were deleted.

Nah, sometimes I like seeing a shitty post. Their shittieness makes it sometimes funny. And it's not that hard to ignore, just scroll down if you see a glowing button.

The biggest problem I see with the posts remaining isn't people wanting them to be gone, so much as it's people using them as an excuse to shit up the thread even further and boost their post count with spame-like comments in the general forum, without getting in trouble.

I am a culprit (sp) but only if the thread was shit from the very first post.

On topic, Even if a shitty derailing post is deleted, it wont be deleted the second it was made and therefore the thread will still become off topic and spame like anyway. We the current mod shortage as it is I doubt anyone can patrol every single post as it happens thus there will still be a large oppotunity for threads to become shitty due to the one shitty post.

Well, yeah... That's kind of the whole point, isn't it?

Here's another problem. I just saw several bad posts in the same thread. I reported the first one, then tried reporting the second only to be told I have to wait. Fuck that. I'm not going to bother with the rest of them; it's easier to just not look at that thread again.

It's not that hard just to skip over them. You're vagina/penis isn't going to fall off from seeing a few bad posts. Also, some people end up discussing the bad post, so if you delete it, it looks like they're discussing something that didn't happen. What forum does this anyways?

Agreed. There was an entire page with about 8 crappy post, of which only the last two on the page were infracted. I had to wait it out to make a stupid report.
