View Full Version : Translation Project on hold...
I'm in complete awe right now. Since I announced the project yesterday, we've gotten about 1,300 applications to translate into over 20 languages. I'm amazed by how amazingly helpful everyone is. Thanks a bunch.
UNFORTUNATELY... 1,300 applications (with more on the way) is way more than we can handle. We're going to figure out how to automate the applications so that we can categorize applicants by language. It'll make the selection process go a lot faster, but that means we're gonna have to delay this a little bit.
For now, please stop sending emails. I'll announce this again once we get the audition system up and running. I'll go ahead and tell you roughly how it's going to work now in case you want to get ready.
You'll be required to translate three comics. One will be straightforward, the other two will be complicated. They'll probably involve English puns or references, forcing you to be creative in making it funny. Remember the rewrite contest we did a while back? This'll be half translation, half rewrite.
I won't go into the voting process until that time comes.
Thanks again for the huge response! I'm sorry we weren't ready for it, but we will be shortly.
When will we know the comics?
When will we know the comics?
When we start up the auditions.

How will you be able to judge the translations, without, you know... learning all languages??

We're not going to be the ones judging them.
We're not going to be the ones judging them.
Then who will? I mean, I can translate to a language probably nobody here knows :D or rare people know.. And probably most other people know it exists D: , sooo, who will judge mine then?

I sent my e-mail directly to you (Rob). Should I have sent it as a general inquiry? Does this hinder my chances at all?
-edit- Grammar check.

Yours will be ignored.

Ooooh, I understand now. I thought you meant that there was a new step in the audition process. My bad.

nice, I'll be eagerly waiting the new audition process :)
Just a question... you are expecting to have only one translator/rewriter for each language, or you want to make a team of translators for each one?...
I'm asking just to see if I have any chance to make it D:
I figured you were going to have a problem once I saw several applicants wanting to post in spanish (as well as myself). I'm ready for whatever you throw at me.

Cela va être intéressant, j’espère bien que je pourrais être avec ce groupe de traducteurs.
This is going to be interesting, I hope that I can be a part of this group of translators. ;)
I wonder how many people are trying out for the French positions.

Heh, it's funny that I tend to speak English more than I speak Spanish, even though Spanish was my first language. Forced to speak it every day though since I'm currently living in PR, and my dad only speaks Spanish. Eh...I prefer English though. :/
Your Spanish is way too rusty then, what you wrote is grammatically wrong. Ironically, that makes the statement itself wrong.

Bueno, de la manera que se expresa oposición, a lo mayor de me entender, es "en contra". La oración, a pesar de que tiene un error gramático, se sobre entiende, por lo tanto, no estoy completamente erróneo. En términos del habla más coloquial, pienso que cualquier persona con dos dedos de frente puede interpretar lo que intento decir.
Si piensas que tu superioridad idiomática es concreta, entonces compruébalo en las siguientes audiciones.
That was not the mistake I was refering to, that one is pretty negligible, although it's there. And, as I said, bring it. Good luck.
