View Full Version : Closed Threads
Closed or locked threads should be sent into the Thread Dump when they are closed.. they have zero purpose to society being untouchable in whatever forum they were originally in.
Dead things belong in the trash.

Actually, I've been thinking we should be able to open our closed threads back up.
Closed threads end up get bumped down in due time and really aren't that much of a problem. Also several stickied threads are closed so that they stay just as the announcement and nothing else. This would send all of those to the dump.
Well threads like the first Confession thread.. not stickies. Threads that are user made, not admin.
And sometimes they are a problem because you read through a whole bunch of posts to figure out you can't actually submit your 2 cents. Of course if you read the CLOSED tag, it would have been easier.
But either way, they serve no purpose being closed on the normal forums.
Yes they do, as people might want to read the thread. Just because nobody can post there, it doesn't mean it have to be removed from the forum, it's not like they are filling up that much, and they will eventually be swallowed by the other threads.

The thread dump is simply there to show users exactly what kinds of threads they shouldn't make. The closed/locked threads that are user made are generally left in the forums because they may have been good/decent threads that started off good and eventually got trashed/spamed or they may have been locked by the user for some reason.

Agreed. Sometimes (although usually only in the Help forum) threads are closed because a particular issue or the OP's question has been answered. People who have similar problems can derive answers from the thread as well, without having to sift through the crappy threads in the Dump.
