Instead of going straight to a poll I have decided to create a thread where everyone can list their favorite game series and explain why they think it deserves to be on the list.
In a week or two, depending on the activity, I will make a second one with a poll so we all can vote. This is all in an effort to eliminate the tons of "why wasn't such and such game on the list?"
I'll go ahead and start this. One of my all time favorite series is Warcraft. Ever since the original was released I have not been able to get enough of this series. When WOW came out, I immediately started playing it, got addicted and quit. Still I admit it is a great game continuing the Warcraft legacy.
In order to be fair I just picked Warcraft, but I also love the other titles in the Blizzard catalog such as Diablo and Starcraft.
Final Fantasy also is near the top of my list. My first RPG experience was with the first Final Fantasy for Nintendo. I played a few of the other titles, but it was FF7 Playstation that had me floored. I have always been impressed by the constant boundary pushing the series has done since it's original release. I have never really been let down by one title in the series.
My favorite game series is definitely God of War because it combined 3 of my favorite thing's Greek mythology nudity and gore. Also the storyline is pretty amazing like when you find out Kratos killed his family. And the different magic that you can use throughout the game is awesome.

I'd have to really agree. That series is very awesome. I know alot hat ie and love it but I do like Final Fantasy. I alos like guitar hero which I think can be considered a series if God of War can.
Pokemon by far. The only thing I don't like is that they haven't made a huge 3D version where there are pokemon roaming around all over the place where you walk up to them and capture them and you can see them walking about not just, your walking through some tall grass and then OH SHIT you just bumped into a Nidoking. Followed closely by The Elder Scrolls Games.

Fallout series, specifically the three PC games and the upcoming fourth. Fallouts 1, 2 and Tactics are undoubtedly three of the best games ever made, RPG or otherwise. They just kick so much ass. The whole post-apocalyptic setting is awesome, and there's lots of tech and weapons and whatnot. Plus, the random encounters and combat systems are great. <3 Fallout!
Legend of Zelda.
Interesting, challenging, action-packed, epic, and fun.
I like the the 3Ds myself, but Lttp is still one of my favorite games.
Metroid and Super Mario are honorable mentions.

Grand Theft Auto, Myst and Sim City, hands down. They all shaped my experience with games as a kid.
Heroes of Might and Magic, definitely.
It's original, always fun to play, and I never find myself abandoning it or not finding myself completely addicted to it. I never find it too hard, but it's still really challenging. Too bad no one plays the series anymore though really.

Every time I think of Pokemon I wish there was a game like you just described.
My favorite video game series is probably the GTA series because nothing is better than being ale to kill random people. I have played every on of these games, going back to the Playstation's overhead view and have found them all to be highly enjoyable.

Zelda by default, the series has been amazing from the first incarnation with NES to today with Twilight Princess. Yes, I even liked Wind Waker which some people disliked.
Runner-ups for me are Metroid and Suikoden.

This man speaks great truths. There is almost nobody on the planet, from a generation of people aged 16-25, who can't say they didn't do pokemon at one point in their life. If you think about it, the creators were geniuses ahead of their time as well. When else had a game been made with a marketing strategy such as "If you want all the monsters, you will have to convince your friends to buy the other version, or buy it yourself!" Brilliant, money-making, efficient. It helps as well that the games were just plain fun.

I am a long time follower of the Legend of Zelda series. I quite like Final Fantasy and the Monkey Island series as well.

I always like the Warcraft lore (Haven't even gotten halfway through the third one (which is also the only one I've ever played), I just read it all)
But th Guild Wars series kick ass! I'm also a big fan of the Prince of Persia series
I'm actually kinda shocked no one mentioned the classic, Super Mario Brothers. I know Super Mario Brothers 2 is a bit of an odd ball of the series, but on almost every platform Nintendo has come out with they have had a Super Mario Brothers game. Some of them were bad, like Wario's world or whatever the hell. But I still really liked the majority of the games, especially the Super Mario World for the NES. The game has over 96 boards and each one has its own little quirky thing about it. It's a freaking gorgeous game and I just love to play it. I can't wait for the new Super Mario universe to come out for the Wii, when it comes out I plan on getting it just for that.

I'd have to say that the KoToR series is a favorite of mine.
First off is the graphics, whilst talking to people will get boring over time since every sentient you talk to has the same head motions throughout the conversation (like swaying there head a bit, bringing it back and bouncing their head with the serious eyebrows, that kind of thing) they are very nice. Especially the cutscenes, with the cutscenes they have in Kotor, they could make a pretty good movie. After those graphics are the background and fore elements. I must say Kotor has very nice backgrounds and things such as the Ebon Hawk are such ediquitly done it makes the game all the more enjoyable.
The sound pretty much needs no explanation. All Star Wars sounds, and you could easily mistake it for the Star Wars movies if you weren't in the room and haven't played the game before. Though I have to complain about when aliens speak and they go through speaches and every other paragraph sounds exactly the same, and the lyp syncing is quite bad at times as well.
The story is well put together as well. Speaking of the story there are also many sub plots with the other party members, from learning of HK-47's past to finding Carth's son on Korriban. It also branches out quite nicely, being able to pick between the light side or dark, have the choice of being male or female, and getting to decide what class you want to be at the beginning of the game, and what Jedi class you get to be later on. All that makes it possible for nearly countless possibilities, and high replay value.
To say that the gameplay isn't perfect is like saying quadros is nice to noobs. The best example can be is that you're never outrageously out gunned and you rarely outrageously out gun another. The gameplay REAAAAALY shines in conversations, having one conversation can decide the fate of the galaxy. And the battling system isn't too hard to figure out, early on with all the numbers in may seem difficult, but later on you'll be to smooth through it because it seems so smooth. Character development is also pretty nice, although it's only the tip of the iceberg in the first KOTOR. In KOTOR II, there's so much character development it's staggering. For instance, just by having enough Influence and use of Intelligent related skills, you can raise the stats of your droid related characters, heck Bao-Dur every so often makes repairs on GO-TO and Remote to make them more useful. Okay prepare for a bunch of spoilers, read ahead if you dare. Kriea and Visas are pretty interesting characters to have around, Kriea helps you gain more force points by having conversations with her, and she can teach you a few things about the force to raise your attributes. Visas all in all doesn't give you anything amazingly useful, but she gives you the moderately interesting ability known as Force Sight which lets you see the alignments of other characters. Pretty much useless on all normal NPC's in the game, but hey it's fun for a while. Example of this ability: You (assuming your headed on the light side) are blue, Kriea is Grey, Mandalore is Red, and HK-47 is transparent. More handy than both of these is being able to train all characters (save the droids, Hanharr, and Mandalore) to be Jedi, useless pure-skill characters like Bao-Dur will be able to come in handy after all! The sad thing is, compared to the first Kotor, there aren't that many lightsabers, so you really have to choose who you want to have it.
Well that's enough reviewing for one day, took me a lot longer than I thought it would.

I'd have to say that the Elder Scrolls games are some of the deepest, most EPIC games I've ever played. There's no end to what you can do, from making weapons to alchemy, spell-crafting and enchanting to guilds, assassinations, becoming a vampire (or a werewolf), horses (at least in Oblivion), and dungeon diving...
There's an insane ammount of replay value, deep conversations, and the world setting is IMMENSE! The lore behind these games... There are entire books to be found in the world, there are secret societys, and... Jeez. I could go on and on. Elder Scrolls series gets my vote.

My favorite series of all time has got to be the Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid series. The gameplay is top notch and the storyline is simply amazing. The series didnt really pick up steam until the coming of the first game in the Solid series, at which point Kojima really got his shit together to craft possibly the single most amazing, engaging, and thought-provoking stories I've ever heard. MGS2 is possibly the least liked in general of all the games, but it has the most intreguing, mind blowing story anywhere.
As for Solid Snake himself, has anyone honestly seen a greater lead character? It's Solid Snake, nuff said.
I vote for Metal Gear.

I remember playing the shitty MS Dos version of Worms 1 when it was new, and being absolutely thrilled when I heard Worms 2 was being released. The games were worlds apart. I really enjoyed Worms: Armageddon, but I still find Worms 2 to be the most fun to play in the series. Regardless, Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon have such a high re playability. Worms is the only game I never minded having to share a keyboard with a buddy to play.

If you dont agree, go suck yourself. Nintendo is better than Sony anyday and the Xbox 360 is just shit with fancy graphics. People these days are all crazy about graphics over gameplay. PEOPLE!! Do you want to play a good game or see a good game??

I'm swinging my wii controller but because my hands are positioned a millimeter to the right of where they should be, I seem to have hooked my golf ball 5 miles east. Yeah, great gameplay. This isn't the beef forum, if somebody doesn't share your opinion, that's just too fucking bad.

My favorite serie I follow from the beginning since it came out is Splinter Cell. I just love the game. I love stealth. I hope that they're not going to wreck it with Conviction though.
Except for Halo there aren't really other series that I really follow, althought the Elder Scrolls series look really good (tho I only have Oblivion)
Oh yeah, and of course GTA

GTA (Bully), because it basically revolutionized free world mission gameplay.
As for handhelds, Pokemon of course and more recently the Phoenix Wright series.
Phoenix Wright is a great example of an original and fun game idea, I'm hooked on the games. Most games out are rip-offs or remakes of old games, I haven't many really completely original games lately.

I really enjoy the Elder Scrolls series mainly because of Morrowind it was just so different to any other game I'd ever played.
I also have to say Crash Bandicoot. Its just a legend I still play it now and still find it something I can waste hours on.
But my favourite has to be the Halo series. I have never played a game for so many hours, I preordered halo 2 and queued for 3 its just something I absolutely love to play and ever since I got the first haven't got bored of playing it.

Any game with the words "Metal" and "Gear" next to each other.
Devil May Cry is pretty funny, I can play that for ages.
Kirby. Seriously, I've only ever played it on N64 emulator and GBA emulator. I've never played one that I didn't LOVE.
I want to try Halo, but I've never had an Xbox.
Legend of Zelda really doesn't do it for me as a series. You can play one epic Zelda game and go OH MY FUCK THIS IS MASSIVE, but if you play any more of them, it's just like WHAT THE HELL I'VE ALLREADY PLAYED THIS GAME.
