Easily the best fucking book I've ever read. You should really go buy a copy. I can't even begin to put into words how awesome this book is. Reviewing it was a horrible idea. By reviewing it, I'm basically making the statement that a few sentences can describe how awesome this book is. I'll just do a little bit of explainin to coax you towards buying it.
In this book, Mr. Colbert covers such controversial issues as homosexuals, race, immigrants, animal rights, relationships, and more. You can learn how to tie a bowtie. You can learn where sushi really some from (HINT: It comes from cows). You'll even learn why gay people want you to be gay too.
Overall, I think the main thing I took away from this book was that it's okay to be different, as long as you're not gay.
Much better than Stewart's book.

Stewart's book was mildly amusing at best. I didn't buy it.

Which one of Stewart's book?
"Naked Picture of Famous People" was fucking hilarious in my opinion.
"America: The book" was funny but not as good as his first one.

I think we're referring to America: The Book. I know I am.

I'm not even American and I have no doubt I'll love it. At the moment I'm waiting for my copy to arrive that I ordered on Amazon. Stephen Colbert should be president. I'm not saying he'd be a good one, but since I'm Canadian I'd be able to just sit back and watch him be hilarious.

I agree, with Stephen being president 100%. I mean plus, can't really get that much worse that we already are. Also, I just bought the book and I must admit I was a bit sceptical about the 23574267345/10 rating. But now that I have actually purchased the book I absolutly love it and agree completely with that rating.

I got it, I read it. I cried, I laughed, I even pooped a little. "I Am America (And So Can You!)" by Stephen Colbert is the funniest thing I have ever read. It's easy to see why he has his own T.V. show, because this book is fucking gold.
You're right, Allen. Trying to describe how awesome it is is damn near impossible.

I have to regulate how much of this book I read each night to compensate for the writer's strike. Bleh reruns. (Daily Show+Colbert Report)

This was easily one of the best books I've read all year. I could even hear Colbert's voice in my head as I read it. :hail:

I'm reading it right now.
Greatest book ever written. It's Colbert's humor with everything he's not allowed to say on television.
I bought this last week and finished it a couple of days ago. All I can say about it is that it was pure sex. One of the few books that i'll probably reread later on.
The chapter on religion had me on the floor the entire time.

Is it worth getting if you're a Englishmen who's never even heard a whisper of his name...

The answer to that is a resounding "YES!!!". I'm sure you guys have a lot of American stereotypes and this plays up just about every one imaginable. You don't really have to know him all that much (or at all) for this book to rock your fucking balls off.

I got this for Christmas and knew it was going to be awesome just from the notice on the back:
WANING!
Several reportages of illegal produced issues of this book from Glorious Peoples Republic of China stealing into bookstores. Do not! By only likely copies only authorized STEPHEN COLBER'S I AM AMERICA AND SO ARE YOU books like this one itself!

I got finished reading this book about a week ago, and I must say, I laughed my ass off. This book represents an almost completely perfect satire of the stereotypical American Conservative. The chapter on old people kept me laughing, the section on the future kept me laughing, and I just about crapped myself when I read the superbowl predictions for the next many years.
Book is a MUST buy. It's just that good.

They better have this in my library. I don't do internet shopping :p
To be honest, from what I've read, it was good, but not what I expected. I can't really place it, but quite a few of his jokes were kind of like "Haha, ok. That was amusing, nothing more."

:roffle: I'm only on page 6, and I'm laughing my ass off. Totally worth the $20!
I got it about a week after it came out.
Loved it, and it really helped me through the show's downtime.
Nothing tucks you in before bed like some Stephen Colbert.

I noticed that too. His jokes are better presented on a brief pundit show than in a book. On TV he can make current events jokes and satire, in the book he focused more on big-picture things, like going into great depth on his views on religion. The deeper the topic, the easier it is to see the (no longer humourous) fallacies in his logic. Also in a book you get the chance to look back and say "wait a minute..." but on TV his pace keeps you laughing and forces you to bottle up the cynicism. He is a TV man, his ego jokes are better delivered by a face, not to mention how much his facial expressions add to the show. The abstinence bases thing, for instance, could have been delivered much better on TV, if you picture it. On the whole, given what I'd expected, I honestly found the book jacket more amusing than the book itself. ("I laughed! I cried! I lost 15 pounds!" ... "About the author: Stephen Colbert is America." (period) )
Or maybe I don't have Americana entrenched in my veins and failed to see his point or find it funny tenth time around, let alone the first.
Or maybe I just failed to conjure a mental image of Mr. Colbert delivering the jokes in person as I read his written text. If he hasn't implanted himself as a fixture inside my brain, he has some work to do.
It was well worth the experience and the money though, no doubt about that.

I'm actually re-reading it. I bought it the day after it was released and immediately read it, and I picked it back up yesterday. I loved it. I still laugh my ass off at it. I find that it's fantastic to read during commercial breaks in "The Colbert Report." It really makes that half hour more Colbert intensive.

The best book you've ever read? It was funny, but give me a break. I suppose it's too late to say this, but I would not recommend this book to someone who had never heard of Stephen Colbert. The only time it was really good was when I focused on thinking about how Colbert would have presented the line on his TV show.
Maybe you people need to read more.
Oh God, this book was hilarious.

This book is like a tenth of America: the Book. I don't know if you guys have noticed this, but the people who are mainstream comedians such as Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert are only scripted funny. Listen to any one of them in an improv situation and they try way too hard. But that isn't about the book. The book is just everything he says on TV in text. It's not amazing, it gets old quickly, and I actually like Stephen Colbert. Too much is too much, there is no subtlety. He, like so many others, just caters to the masses.
The stupid masses.

Stephen Colbert was on Whose Line is it Anyway? a LONG time ago. I remember watching him and laughing really hard, so Stephen Colbert is good at improvisational comedy.
Look it up on youtube.

Look at any of his interviews. Or especially Steve Carrell in that regard, they just try too hard.

Maybe your trying too hard at trolling. An interview isn't supposed to be all shits and giggles; I never heard of Stephen Colbert until his show came on. And where did Steve Carrell come into this?
