In a way you could say i'm obsessed with these series, I have almost all of the games in the series (just need DW1,) but anyways, i know the game is based off of history, but how much of it is history? Also, how many other people are big fans of the series?

I like the Dynasty Warriors series, and to a (much) lesser extent also the Kessen series, which is based off the same "historical fact".
I've done some research on the subject, and the following is recorded history:
- The Han Dynasty (run by the Liu family) lost most of its power around 200 AD, although the "Three Kingdom" era is thought to have begun during the Yellow Turban Rebellion (~184AD)
- Wei was not formed until ~220, when Cao Pi forced the abdication of the emperor following his father's death
- Following Sun Jian's death (and the collapse of Wu that should have accompanied it), Sun Ce went on something of a revenge rampage, acting as a young warlord, and built Wu up without really meaning to.
- Dong Zhuo's efforts to seize power were thwarted when he was killed by his adopted son, Lu Bu.
- In the final battle between Yuan Shao and Cao Cao, the latter was able to overcome a formidable size difference (the specifics vary depending on the source) by setting Yuan Shao's supplies on fire.
- Cao Cao's formidable fleet at Chi Bi was overcome by an alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan (named as successor to his brother when Sun Ce was fatally wounded by an arrow, much the same as his father)
- Shu fell in 263, after Zhuge Liang's death had caused political instability. They were attacked by Wei (led by Deng Ai) at Chengdu, and Liu Shan (called Liu Chan in DW) surrendered.
- Around 230, tensions rose between the Cao and Sima familys, each wanting to rule their Kingdom. This peaked in 260 when Sima Zhao killed Cao Mao, who was the current ruler (replaced by Cao Huan). Shortly after, Sima Zhao died, and his successor, Sima Yan, convinced Cao Huan to abdicate his throne to avoid bloodshed. The Wei Dynasty was thus replaced by the Jin Dynasty.
- There's not much info that I've found on the fall of Wu. After Sun Quan's death (and his subsequent replacement by Sun Liang), Wu went into a steady decline. Around 280, Wu was attacked heavily and repeatedly by the new Jin Dynasty, and was eventually defeated.

Wow, thanks for all that, I guess the game is sort of accurate, except for some of the info, but thanks for the info, I hope DW 6 is more accurate, I know its going to have alot more charecters and its going to look alot better, and all the characters are going to be redone, but the whole game sounds good, its going to be for PS3 and Xbox 360

The thing to note is that they have only the briefest descriptions of the individuals involved (except the notable ones, like Guan Yu and Cao Cao) so the characters as you see them are all works of fiction.

Yeah, in a way I could already tell that some of it was fiction, some of the stuff I knew was:
Sun Shang Xiang never fought in battles historically, but she trained alot, and made sure her maids were trained with sword and sheild, and her rooms were filled with weapons hanging on the wall of all sorts
Sha Moke, Gan Ning's killer, was not a part of Nanman, he was of another tribe, and the battle in which he killed Gan Ning was his first and only battle
I know a little more, but nothing all that big...

I love the DW series, not so much the SW series. I knew nothing about the game or history, when i rented it, and really enjoyed the games. Both me and my roommate played DW for hours a day. After we'd beat the game with one character, we'd move to someone else, til the whole thing was beaten. My first and favorite character is Cao Pi.

I've read the entire novel by Luo Guanzhong. It's a great book, but it also includes a lot of fiction. The novel is what almost all references are based off of though. It's the most popular portrayal.
Take for example... In the novel, Sha Moke kills Gan Ning. But Sha Moke isn't even the one who kills him historically.
