View Full Version : Naming Comics

Just an idea I had on organization of the comics. It'd probably be a pain to go back and do this to old comics, but for new comics, have you guys ever thought about giving them names? It would be easier to set up the archive and for people to find their favorite C&H comics later down the line. Quite a few times I've had to fumble through the archive for an hour just to find a comic that I liked and wanted to show to other people. I think that, if combined with the "comic tag" idea that was discussed a while ago, this would make it much more user-friendly, in terms of finding comics.

Seems kinda silly to me. A name would have to relate to the comic or be a pun on it or something, and it'd actually cheapen the joke in some cases. I say leave them as is.
They have names @_@
Just right-click and props them.

That may be so, but they're not sorted by them or anything like that. Even a search feature combined with the names they already have would be nice. Just an easier way to find a comic, since there's so many.
They aren't sorted at all, except by illustrator's directory. They could easily add a search function that incorporates the filenames though.

Who's gonna search for a comic by the file name? The name could be anything from the set-up to the punchline to something completely unrelated. After all, this is Explosm.
If you like a comic, I would think you would lookup the file name so in the future you can find it again.

I would think you'd Right Click -> Save As the first time you see it.

I'm not going to save every comic.. Often, on the forum and even to friends on MSN, I like to post C&H comics that fit in with the general discussion that I'm having. However, after hunting for an hour to find the appropriate comic, it's far from relevant anymore. :ahe:

If it happens so often why not save every comic?

I've read the comics so many times that I can usually find one I'm after really fast once I get a reference close to it. Just save them to your long term memory :indiff:

This is exactly what they're doing with tags. They've been going through (or maybe they quit, I don't know) all the comics and adding tags according to scenarios or characters in the comic.
It's the search feature you're talking about, but a lot easier, and less specific.

Check out the search feature on marriedtothesea. It will give you an idea of what's to come if they get the comic tag thing done.
