I decided to make another one of these for discussion about your GH3 Scores only.

Favourute songs. Any songs that you thought would be hard, but are actually pretty easy, or vice versa.

Because i'm an Englander, i don't have the game yet, but i want to get a feel for what the game is like.

Oh and by the way, I made this mistake in the first thread, PICS OR IT'S A LIE.

Sarge51

I can always 100% "When you were Young". BUT, only on Multi-player. (Weird, and that's the only song I can get the 100% Achievement on!(Unless I go to Easy or something.))

My favorite song has to be "Holiday In Cambodia" because it's annoying, yet funny.

My favorite song on Expert is "The Metal" because it looks hard, but I can actually play it.

Well, for one, I saw that you said post pictures. But I just stopped playing and am not whipping my camera out tonight. But I do believe that anyone that has played the game knows that "When You Were Young" is pretty damn easy. On any difficulty. and ask Oberlin. We both 5 Stared the song but I still won account of star power. (Now, that would've been picture worthy!)

I'll post pictures later. If I can find an online match. (God, it takes ages to find a match.)

You should make this just a Guitar Hero boasting thread in general. Some of us don't have Guitar Hero 3, but like to boast about Guitar Hero 2. Like my 100% of Jordan.

Yeah, Sarge isn't lying. We both FC'd the song and he beat me solely by his SP path.

I'm 3rd on XBL for Monsters on Hard, my high score at the moment is 345,392 and the high score is 348,166. If I ever manage to FC it, I'll blow that out of the water by about 4000. For some reason though, XBL is only showing my Expert score, so I feel a tad gypped.

I also beat RyuBlitz from the SH forums in a Pro Face-Off. =p

Actually, that was the entire joke of the post. :indiff:

I managed to get to 90% on One by Metallica on Hard mode, in Guitar Hero 3. Yeah, I know, blah blah blah, you guys have already 5-starred Through The Fire And The Flames on expert, I get it. I happen to not be as good at Guitar Hero as you guys. The solo for One reminds me of Free Bird on expert. :\ I got past the entire solo, and the ending Darkness Riff is what killed me.. You have no idea how pissed I was. My fingers were going to fall off or something.

Sarge51
11-06-2007, 7:37 PM
I can't get more than 2% Complete on Through the Fire and Flames on Expert...

I beat hard and am working on Expert Career. I just beat Before I forget and Stricken. God it was hard. But the next song I can't beat. I like that long 2 Note Chord spam at the end of Before I Forget. That part is SOOO fun to play. I need to get a video of me doing it, like I promised someone I would.

Hmm I guess my only boast so far is that I beat the game, and 4-starred most songs (I havent even tried sprucing some up yet)

I HATE TfatF. I got past the first part one time, and made it to 79%. I can usually hit 85%+ notes on it, but that first part is a bitch-aronidoune

I 100%ed the soung bye lacuna coil in bonus songs, easy as crap, someone else should go play it.

I'll post a pic of my setlist later on

He got 100%..on a boss battle. So he FC'd a song that has some very hard sections...whilst your fretboard is becoming lefty flipped and double noted.

If you mean he beat it, I would understand, but apart from the fact it is impossible to hit every last note because of the death drain thing (after Lou loses, you skip to another part of the song), it is pretty much impossible.

OK New rule. If you people coninue to make claims of 100% on expert songs with out a picture to prove it, then i'm going to get a SuperMod in here to infract you for it. It's now agains't the rules.

If you like that you should play Cult Of Personality. The entire first solo is a hammer on and almost all of the 2nd solo is, along with the main guitar riff.

How hard is the game to get into guys? I'll be getting it in a few weeks, and it will essentially be my first GH experience. Will I want to slit my wrists after a few hours, or is the learning curve OK?

Demoir
11-09-2007, 1:42 PM
Assuming the learning curve is like GHI + II(which it probably will be), it's really easy to learn.

Also, I just got a -3 run on You Really Got Me on hard (GHIII doesn't come out here til 23rd november, so until then it's just GHII accomplishments from me). Stupid end wankery.

Well. It's kind of difficult. If you haven't played the Guitar games yet, then it'll be tough. It takes some getting used to. Timing and accuracy is important, and this game will definitely give you a sense of rhythm. I'd say about 30 minutes to an hour to actually get a comfortable feel for the game.

As for the Drums (Rock Band). It's completely different from the Guitar. But it's actually somewhat easy. Once you get the beat, it's all good. Timing isn't as strict as the guitar, theres only four drum pads, but you have a pedal. Not sure how that works. Estimated learning curve: 10-30 Minutes.

Edit: Whoops. Forget the drum part. I was thinking of Rock Band for a second there.

And 30 mins to an hour eh? Doesn't sound too bad. Wonderful.

11-09-2007, 2:45 PM
The concept LOOKS easy. But for some reason, everyone I know just can't play this game. Five Buttons and Bar. Simple? NOPE.

Just play the tutorial first. More than once if you need to. (Good Luck, that tutorial gets old quick.) But practice songs on slower speeds if you need to, and you'll be fine. Just keep working at it and you'll be on Hard in no time.

One thing I've always wondered, from watching videos of people playing, is, for every note, do you have to press the corresponding button AND strum the strummer thing?

Or can you keep one or the other held down or something?

Sarge51
11-09-2007, 4:06 PM
Not all notes do you have to strum. If they are close enough together you can just Hammer on and Pull Off without strumming. But if you mess up you have to strum again or else you'll just be pressing buttons randomly. Also, with the exception of Chords. The only note that counts is the note furthest to the body of the guitar. So if you're holding the Green and the Red button, and a red button is coming up, you can just strum and it'll hit the red note. But for chords, it won't work.

You have to use both hands.

Demoir
11-09-2007, 4:19 PM
It's reasonably well explained in the tutorials in the first 2 games, really (the hammer on and pull-off business).

Let me try to explain HOPOs (Hammer-ons/pull-offs) in a fairly easy way.

Sometimes, you'll run into a series of notes that look odd.

http://talk.xboxsolution.com/gallery/data/515/medium/93888-3-2.jpg

Notice how only one of those buttons has a dark outline in the center. For that note, with the dark outline, you have to hold down the fret button and press the strum bar. After that, however, you've entered HOPO territory. All you need to do is hit the corresponding fret button when it comes up (if it has a light center outline), and it will play it, no strumming required. However, if you miss one of the HOPO notes, it cancels it out, and you will have to strum on the next one to continue hammering.

To add to this, I'll cover a totally different topic: Lower Note Strumming. Make sure the above paragraph is drilled into your brain before reading this.

Now: On a faster song, sometimes it'll be hard to get your fingers moving across the buttons fast enough. That's where this comes in. Say you've got the green fret button held down (The first one), and you have to hit the red, yellow, blue and orange ones right after that, in rapid succession. Now, you could throw your hand across the entire thing, or for ease's sake (Lets say more green notes are after this sequence), you could leave the green fret button held down and hit the red, then move to the yellow, etc, etc, with the green button still held down. You can do this because the next note is lower on the fret board than the green one; therefore, holding the green one wouldn't affect the sound if you hit one that's down lower; same concept as a guitar. This doesn't work, however, on chords.. If you have a yellow-red chord coming up, you can't just hold the green button down as well.

Hopefully this helps someone understand a little better.

Sarge51
11-09-2007, 7:57 PM
Wow, that was a long description for HOPOs. Thanks for explaining it better. I was mad when I figured out HOPOs. The tutorial never told you anything about how the notes looking different like that meant you could use HOPOs. I kept saying to myself, "Why are those different looking..."

I'm so glad they figured out HOPOs in GH2. In GH...they're so hard to hit. Takes super precision.

Sarge51
11-09-2007, 8:08 PM
Yeah. It was hard to do Iron Man and get 100%. But on GH2 it was much easier and now on GH3 it's even MORE easier! Not sure how to compare them in Rock Band though. They seem sort of hard.

Agreed. I got all the way to Carry Me Home on Medium when I first got the game without HOPOs. Then I kept failing Carry Me Home because I was strumming on the HOPOs, and I was like "What the fuck, I strummed, is my guitar broken?" Went out and bought the wireless guitar, still fucked it up.. So I finally went through the whole tutorial and I was like "Oh you son of a bitch!"

EDIT: In my opinion they should make it so you can turn HOPOs off. A lot of time I'll be fucked out of an FC on Hard because of a HOPO at the beginning of a fast strum-line, so I don't start strumming on time.

Sarge51
11-09-2007, 10:25 PM
I know. Some parts I strum on a HOPO note, and since it already hit the note due to HOPO my strum counts as a random no note miss. I used to have it happen a lot. But recently, I work fine. I kind of balance out using HOPOs and actually strumming.

I'm in the same boat as other European players, not out for another 2 weeks. My best achievement was probably, finally 5 starring Carry me Home on Hard and having all songs 5 starred (well except Six but that's a bonus song so it doesn't count). I need to FC some more songs on Hard at the moment I only have about 4 FC's, I always make silly slip-ups like miss an easy note but hit everything else.

CharlieH
11-10-2007, 10:16 AM
I don't see a picture there Charlie, shouldn't you

However, my feat seems believeable. I'm not claiming to have got to 99% on Expert, like a few of the people on here have. I'm just using common sense.

I've never owned and still do not own any Guitar Hero games, and I am quite proud of my 57% notes hit completion of Dragon Force-Fire and Flames on Expert (in pro-faceoff).

Also at the end of the last school year, when I was still playing medium, I beat every song in career mode from midnight to 6 in the morning, with my contacts still in. Which, I'm sure others who wear contacts and play the game can vouch for, burns like hell and is quite distracting.

One of my biggest problems with the begging is when it goes Blue, orange, blue orange, yellow, blue. the time between the blue and orange is longer than you think, you have to Hop your pinky, beacause if you slide it over to orange, you will miss about 3 or 4 notes. So just remember, hop the pinky, dont slide the pinky, and make sure your hitting the read orange afterwards.

I'm playing on Expert and I can't beat One or Raining Blood. The mosh in Raining Blood is fucking impossible and requires super human speed in the hands to pass it. ( which apparently I don't have ) I've tried it about 1294 times and can't pass it. =\

This thread makes up for all the other threads I am not posting in.

Anyway. I just noticed that you can't play the DLC online unless both players have it. What kind of crap is that? If one persons has it, I think that's enough. It should be the same as the other songs. On Career, you can't play them unless you buy them. But right when you first play you can play online and choose any song you want to play. But it's with another player. All I want to play is "She Builds Quick Machines", I don't need that other crap.

You don't have to pay money for the in-game songs, but you do for downloads, so it makes sense. Buy the pack, Slither is more fun than Quick Machines anyway.

Tiny bit off topic, but the Game website (a British game store) is selling the Wii version with guitar for £70.
I seem to remember Gamespot saying at one point the RRP was closer to £50?

Am I really going to have to get £70 together?

Well, here I am bucking up and taking pictures. "The Metal" on Expert is probably the only song I am good at, (Well, TTFAF would be a good for me too, if I could get past that first Hammer On section.) But anyway. Heres a picture of me after a Pro-Face off with some guy. It came down as 3-3 and I got to pick the final song, of course I went with the one I was best at, "The Metal." Probably my best score for the song. Think I can make it to 300K?

I practice the song every day and don't seem to have any real trouble with the rest of the song, sometimes I can get a 4X (for about 3 seconds). But that first part just murders me. and by murders me, I mean I lose within 2 seconds of playing it on Quick Play. I can kick some ass on Grinding Scales and Synth Death though. If I ever beat it on Expert, pictures will be granted.

Play it on multi player (even if its just bye yourself) and see what score you get.

The boss battles, TtFaF, and Cliffs of Dover are the funnest downloadable songs ever in the GH franchise. Ever. Yes, they are free.

My brief review of each on Expert:
The Tom Morello one is easy but gets funner and funner towards the end with lots of unique chord changes. The Slash battle is sick, it sounds awesome and is awesome to play. The Devil Went Down to Georgia took me six tries to beat and is by far the awesomest notechart to ever hit GH. No sync issues, no strange note placements, fun all around and it absolutely rules ass. Best. Song. Ever.

I'd say it's harder than TtFaF even in terms of an FC. In TtFaF there are plenty of times throughout the solo where you can safely bring your other hand up to tap various sections that are 13+ nps HOPO's, but in DWDtG, there are hardly any. Most of the solos are one-handed fretting finger fuckery because of a random strum in a spot one would normally start tapping at.

Best downloadable content evar.

And it was in Pro Face-off, so I'm not sure if it really counts, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Sarge, for fucks sake, of all people, you should know that I'm fully capable of it, how many times have I annihilated you on it? If I was gonna lie, I'd lie and have the top recorded score =p

On another note, just had a guy fucking go off on me because I broke his 13-win streak (he was going for the 15-streak Achievement) Some fucker who chose TTFAF for both his songs just cuz he could play it, and I beat him on Take This Life by like 3000 points.

Still, man. FCing that song on Hard OR Expert is no easy task. I saw someone nearly FC it the other night on Expert, He messed up at the middle part twice but for the rest, he just blew me away.

I hate when some people pick TTFAF three times, But I keep going through it, they usually quit before the last one. TTFAF doesn't hurt as much as TDWDTG or Tom Morellos song.

The last song I played before retiring up to my bedroom to give my hands a rest ( by typing a lot naturally ) was Take This Life. Jesus H. Christ on a stick, I'm never 5 staring that. Even beating it on expert will be a chore. F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X kicked my ass too, and so far is the only song I've failed and only song I can't pass, which is typical because I really like The Fall Of Troy. Oh well let's hope y crap form is more due to not playing guitar hero for about 2 months.

I'm finally starting to beat TtFatF almost every time now, and I haven't failed at the begining in a while. Another reason I found I was failing was beacause I was leaving my fingers on the buttons to long, and which causing me to over strum, AND miss a note. If you keep failing really fast try and just barely touch the buttons while playing the beginning.

I dont know what it is about mosh, but it was never that hard for me. If I try and ignore any of the buttons I fail pretty fast, but if I go for it all, I can usually get a few 3 or 4x multipliers.

I don't have any suggestions except maybe fling your fingers a little faster (and don't try and Hammer on pull it off (you can if you want, but I fail when I try) Just strum up and down kinda fast.)

I just got a 50 note streak through Mosh 1 (in practice mode) whilst trying to strum everything. That was fucking weird.

I'm guessing that your talking about Raining Blood, but what diffuculty?

Tempest

Played through a lot of the career mode over the past couple days. I 5-starred everything on Hard up to Black Magic Woman (With 97% of notes hit and all but 2 star power phrases hit, it doesn't make sense that I'm not 5-star yet), then I 5-starred everything in that tier after Black Magic Woman except Pride And Joy. Then I 3 and 4-starred all the way to the last tier, beat One (FUCKING FINALLY) and Cliffs of Dover, and now I'm stuck.

Demoir

I'm pretty close to 5-starring hard main setlist, just got Knights of Cydonia, Raining Blood and One to go. I won't get Raining Blood until I can get through Mosh 1 without SP consistently (I've done it three times so far) but the other 2 are possible with practice, and I'm only about 10k off Knights of Cydonia, because of the stupid last 2 minutes.

Edit: Oh yeah, got past Raining Blood on expert and now I'm stuck on the final boss, who's fucking hard.

I think Knights of Cydonia or My Name Is Jonas are probably my favorite songs to play on Guitar Hero 3, because of the awesome hammer-on parts. My Name Is Jonas is a little tough to get used to, because there's so much space between the hammers, but it's fun as hell once you figure it out. Knights of Cydonia is faster paced, but the first time I nailed every hammer in the little sequence I felt happy deep inside.

My main problem with Guitar Hero 3 is they just decided to find every long-ass song they could. Up until you get to Before I Forget and Stricken, every song you play is like 6 minutes long, which is ridiculous on the higher difficulties.

Knights of Cydonia is fun for me, but ONLY on Expert. That song helped me get used to double strumming.

My Name is Jonas is so annoying. But that odd HOPO part is somewhat fun, I suppose.

Are you kidding me? I hate Knights of Cydonia, it's one of the 2 songs [Excluding bonus'] that i can't 5 star on expert, what with all those notes so quickly strummed, i keep screwing it up somewhere.

Also, on another note, I can't get the 'Star Mania' Achievment, even though i've activated star power 3 times at least during dragonforce. I've also tried only activating it 3 times, activating it 3 times with a full meter, everything, and i just can't get the achievement...

According to SH, you have to play it in Quickplay, get star power activated 3 times, then when it runs out after the third time, fail the song and you should get it.

Edit: Holy shit! -3 on Monsters solo on expert! Too bad I suck balls at the rest of the song.

Also, 5-starred Knights of Cydonia on hard (also nearly have it on expert), and I'm fairly close on One, and when I can FC the galloping triplets (before mosh 1) in star power, I might get a lucky run on Raining Blood.

I beat Number Of The Beast most handily last night (4-star, along with Cliffs of Dover 4-starred), and I managed to beat One again, though I didn't upgrade my score by very much. I can't wait to battle Lou and unlock TtFaF, it's just a shame that will NEVER HAPPEN, because I will NEVER BEAT RAINING BLOOD.

Like, holy fuck. Why would they even fucking put something like that in the game? I've played TtFaF, and I understand that one being so hard: it's a bonus song and not required to beat career. But are you fucking serious? I can't get past 38% on Raining Blood. 38%, by the way, is that point in Mosh 1 where you can SEE THE NEXT FUCKING PART. I played it in practice and if I can get past Mosh 1, I can get the rest of the song. I can (literally) get almost every note in the beginning of the song with my eyes closed (I tried, I only missed a couple in the triplet strums), but the hammers in Mosh 1 are pretty much impossible. :ahe:

If I save my SP for blinking red, I'm already done for. I can't hit enough notes after activating it while blinking red to dig myself out, I have to turn it on right when I hit red.

You shouldn't encouner any major problems until tiers 7 & 8, if you're a new-ish player. You'll probably have problems at tier 8 no matter how long you've been playing.

I just 5-starred all of the hard bonus tracks except The Way it Ends, Through the Fire and Flames (which I'll never get) and Take this Life (which I should be able to get with practice). I've also had a comfortable 4-star of Take this Life on expert, which was cool.

I was about 4 notes off FCing My Name Is Jonas the other night, and about 6 from Bulls on Parade. In hard, that is. It makes me sad, because I've never been so close to getting an FC on a hard song. I also managed to 100% the solo in Paranoid on Hard, though I did shitty on the rest of the song.. I was absolutely amazed when I hit that solo though, it's like my fingers were possessed. :indiff:

Sarge51
12-12-2007, 10:52 PM
Ah. I wouldn't ever think of trying that. Cause if you miss a note you have to strum quickly to get back on track, and doing that NORMALLY can still be a hassle. AND the fact that you can die within 3 seconds of the song doesn't make it easier.

Ommurg
12-13-2007, 1:07 AM
IT was dis-heartening at first, I couldn't do it on slowest. But trust me, practice at it, and it will be well worth it. I'm still not that good at it, and I can usually get back on track in about 2-3 secs after missing. If you even get halfway through it before you mess up, you can switch back to normal and probably still pass.

But seriously, give it a try. Use your normal fingers for Green, Red, and Yellow, and Your other hands index finger for Blue and Orange (just my preferred method) . If you suck really bad at first, KEEP TRYING, getting 100% on the beginning will be well worth it. I would say it would take about an hour, maybe 2 of straight practice, and about that much of every now and then practice.

EDIT: I see that he has been playing for a year which is fair enough. Oh and even though they are easy songs Deimor after one week of playing if you'd never played the game before you would not be able to get 5 stars on them, you'd barely be able to complete them and that's if you picked it up quickly, it takes most people 2 or 3 days to even figure out how to play the damn thing.

IamChris4Life plays Guitar Hero too? I only know him from his DDR stats. I doubt this guy goes out of the houset often, except some of his friends say they're annoyed by him because he brags about his skills alot :indiff:

I've played it for a week, it's my first guitar hero and I can't even play hard. I don't think anyone could play it for a week and 5 star a song on expert.

Well, someone would have to have done it.

Otherwise there would not be pictures of such feats.

There are pictures I tell you.

PICTURES!!

Iamchris4life must do nothing else but play rythym (I can't spell it at the moment) games, he's got a video up of him getting 99% on one of the harder drum songs on Rock Band, on expert, after only a few days of him having the game (with no prior drum expierience apparently).

EDIT: Oh yeah, I just tried using a rubber band to try and get past the intro on Through the Fire and Flames, and it turns out that I failed about 3 times faster then usual :indiff:

I've only K of C to 5* on hard, and I'm like 5k away from it.

Not too shabby if you ask me.

Good job Oberlin, it's weird but KoC is one of the hardest songs to 5 star in the game, that was the last one I had left as well, did One, Raining Blood etc. no problem, but KoC I only 5 starred by about 3k.

To be honest, the song I have the most trouble 5-starring on GH3 is Black Magic Woman. :indiff: I mean, there are plenty of songs I can't 5-star, but that's just because I suck at them.. One, Raining Blood etc. Black Magic Woman, I got 98%. 98 fucking percent, and still no 5-star? How does that even make sense?
