Yes, you read that right. Those in charge of the earliest embryonic stage of a media production have pulled the plug on the entire industry. Oh noes, no more movies or TV! WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?
Easy there, don't panic yet. Only the writers are on strike, so as long as someone has a script, they can finish the job and produce it. Movies take something like a year to produce after the script's been written, so we're good until next Christmas, but if the strike drags on, and it appears that the major US networks are prepared for that, there could be a sudden drop-off come next winter. Colbert and other late night talk shows will be doing reruns, or focusing on celebrity interviews. Networks are hinting at more reality shows, maybe extra seasons of The Amazing Race or Survivor. Animated shows like Family Guy are safe because it takes a long time to produce a cartoon, so the scripts have been finished long in advance. My biggest concern is for shows like Lost or 24, which are currently in production but haven't yet been scripted for the full season. Looks like the only winners are independents and British sitcoms.
Thoughts?
I don't really care. To be completely honest, I couldn't care less. If they wanna go on strike, so be it. Shit, there are reruns that I haven't seen so I'm content, you know?
I'm a little bugged by this. Not so much bothered as pissed off. It's not that TV/Movies will be gone, but the fact that I thought we were no longer living in the fucking dark ages of labor unions and strikes. That shit belongs in a time before I was born. I thought we lived in a world where businesses were more logical and didn't have issues with unionized groups of employees. Oh well. I guess I'll live, but I won't be happy about it.
I agree with their strike.
Writers are one of biggest contributors towards Media and they are not getting the financial crap stuff they deserve(Even though a good amount of people who produce shows are "working" harder than them).
Movies are not going to be effected much, movies that are being released to up to 2010 have already gotten screenplays packed up since its one of the earliest stages of pre-production.
Though my concern is that I'll be seeing alot of reruns of shows that are on a daily/weekly basis such as the Daily Show and Colbert Report. And Shows are also being shortened like Heroes and Scrubs.
Those Hollywood commies are finally getting what they deserve, I see.

Amen, Hollywood has been spreading it's communist propaganda since The Wizard of Oz! I'm glad they are getting what they deserve!
FUCK HOLLYWOOD
NVM, shows like Heroes and Scrubs (awesome shows) already filmed their entire seasons, so they're not gonna be effected by the strike. Plus this is Scrubs last season (:wail:), so even if the strike stretches, it won't have an effect.

Unfortunately I don't think they've finished writing scripts for the last few episodes of Lost. I could do without almost everything else as long as Lost is okay.

Oook.. what I meant to say was that they mad most of the scripts already written down, so they wouldn't need writers for too long. That's what I said, right? http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa175/ShaggMuffin/ahhhhh.jpg

Maybe the strike will result in more then 1-2 good shows being added every year.:indiff: And the fact that scrubs will finally end is even better, maybe they'll put something on comedy central that doesn't involve grown men groping each other and talking about their feelings.

I heard that the scrubs final season is being cut by 6 episodes (because of this strike). Is that correct?
You fucking suck, read the thread.
