Oh my GOD! This game is a fucking masterpiece ladies and gentleman. A fucking masterpiece!

Atmosphere is stunning, freedom is insane, the graphics are breath-taking and the gameplay.... ooooh the gameplay.

I'm at a complete loss of words. Go fucking play it.

Nitro guy summed it up. The game is an work of atmospheric art. It had me trembling the first few minutes into Rapture, and I'm addicted.

I haven't gotten very far in, but glancing at the set of achievements speaks to me that I still have a lot of gameplay I haven't even neared yet. I can't wait.

Just to make a few of you confident, here are my computer specs:
- Intel P4 3.0GHz - old school, not Prescott
- 2 GB of RAM
- GeForce 6800 128MB (overclocked and tweaked to high heaven, mind you)

I was able to run the game at 1024x768 resolution with everything set to HIGH and ON at 30-35 frames per second (very playable), sans DX10 of course. :wail:

I'd look into it more and see if there's X360 exclusives that interest you as well. If it's just for Bioshock, you're better off getting it for PC if your PC can handle it. If it can't, X360 is cheaper than a top-of-the-line PC.

I got it today; man, this game is intense to a degree I didn't think possible. The suspense and sense of urgency in the battles is absolutely insane.

The Big Daddies really make the game. They're boss battles in their own right, and -nothing- brings them down easily; the sense of accomplishment you get when one of these beasts finally goes down is overwhelming.

Edit: I decided I'd give people who haven't played some insight on the Big Daddies; here's what I went through to defeat -one-.

First I stunned it with my freeze power. Then I threw down a target dummy to distract it. Now I pump a full clip of armor-piercing machine gun rounds into it. It's health is down to about 4/5. Shit. It kills the dummy, turns on me, I fire 3 grenades at it from my launcher. Now it's down to 3/5. It backhands me, slams me into the wall, I use a medkit and reload the machine gun; set it on fire with my incinerating power, let it's heath burn while I put another clip into it. It's down to about 1/4. It fires a grenade launcher at me, I catch the grenade with telekinesis, throw it back, drop it's health a bit more, then empty my final clip, armor-piercing pistol shots (12 bullets) and it dies.

Well, its now nearly mid day, i just woke up after playing Bioshock into the wee hours of the morning. It's fantastic. Currently running it on my PC, DX10 and the graphics are incredible and runs so damn smoothly. The story is compelling, the characters are unique and interesting and the combat has so many variations and different ways to do things, it never becomes tiresome. This game deserves all the 10 / 10's it gets.

So far it seems like the water effects are hit or miss. A lot of stuff like ripples are realistic, but then there's awful looking waterfalls and barrels that shoot bright blue lines when you shoot holes in them.

DamnDude

I am very disappointed in the developers regarding this game, the game itself is great, but they put SecuRom in every CD for the PC game, which installs a Root Kit into your computer that cannot be uninstalled without formatting the computer.

Also, you can only install each game twice, if you want to have it on two computers in your house, you have to uninstall it in the first one, and after that you cant ever install it again, for example if your computer crashes.

And due to the Root Kit, many game players will endure problems with playing the game because of anti-virus programs, because this is, well, considered a virus, an uninstallable virus. Sony had this SecuRom on some of their music CD's back in the day, and had a ton of lawsuits because its illegal to install unwanted, uninstallable software on ones computer.

That being said, I really want this game, but Im not buying it for the PC (I dont have a console).

Agreed. Near the first part where the plane cockpit crashes into the tunnel you're walking through, and it floods? For a pre-made thing, it looked pretty cool. After that, it just started looking cheesy, but at least they tried.

The game may be amazing and whatever but the fact that it can't be played on shader 2.0 cards is horse shit. Fortunately someone is currently working on a work around for that but it makes the load times around 8 minutes for each load screen. The fact that they didn't allow shader 2.0 cards while so many current and upcoming games do is bull.

Game looks cool, played the Demo yesturday. If this game has half life type grahics on my 360 I can only imagen what a suped up computer would do, that said I will be getting the console version :) Maybe their just not in the demo, but I ddn't see any amazingly developed characters. But man, it was fun, I havn't felt this scared playing a game sense Doom III. When it first started and you are in the water, I thought I was still in a cinematic when I breached teh surface, only to be shocked when I realized I was free to move :) Damn good water, though I noticed the fire loaded only when you were in proximity to it. I played it on the hardest difficulty the demo allowed (medium, "Have played a few shooters" and only died once, I had just taken out a bot and was ninjaed by another that peaked around the corner :P) I have to say the game looks good, as for goodness/replay factor I'd still take Halo 3, single player games can be fun, but their just that, single player. Though I think this one will turn out like SoF II single player, I love single player in that game.

Well, Tempest, occasionally (like every 3-4 sisters) you get a reward, and while random (ammo, medkits, etc) it always involves 200 Adam, so I think it ends up being worth it.

Also!

Just a note to people wondering about the decisions to be made about the little sisters, i'll just let you know. A: It effects the ending. B: If you harvest just 1, it doesn't matter how many you save, you'll get the same end result. You have to save them all to get the alternate ending.

Hmm, so everyone says buy it...
I played the demo on 360 and it is awesome, but i still have one reservation:
£40 for 20 hours? And my mate got it on friday and was done by sunday.
So the way I see it, its gonna have to be really good to be worth that. Still, it might have loads of replay value so meh.
And ive just seen Prey for £10 on gameplay, is that worth it?

It's a shame storylines are crap on a lot of new games, depending. Anyway.

I havent played this yet, I want to badly, I can't run it on computer since I only have a onboard video, everything else shoudl be able to handle it though. (i bought a video card at one point, and installed it and everything, I tried to run a couple of computer games, and they'd lock up. Pissed me off) I might buy it for xbox360, but can't right now, not enough cash to spare, I could just rent it. Is it a long game? because I don't want to rent it and beat it, unless ther'es a lot of replay value.

It's about 12-15 hours to run through it once, and then 12-15 more if you go through again for the other ending. I've beaten it on the ending from saving them all so far; and after such a stellar cutscene, I seriously dunno if I can bring myself to harvest them now.

Sorry to bring back a partially dead thread, but I now own Bioshock. I played the demo last night and was like, "zomgogmozm", and I wanted to buy it even more. Well, I ended up getting brand new for 26 dollars. I traded in three games(smackdown vs raw 2007, tony hawk project 8, and f.e.a.r.) and since they have a deal going on (trade in 3 games get an extra 10 % trade in value), it took off 35 dollars.

Just from the demo the graphics and everything is really great. The gameplay so far is awesome, and the story is interesting also. So, am I in the cool kids club now?

Agreed. It was extremely good around the Ryan twist, but after that it was a road downhill. Also after dealing with 6 or so Big Daddies, saving the little sisters became a chore.(It was too easy after you knew the tricks). I really wanted to advance and just leave them there, but I wanted to get the good ending and it would have felt like a waste of time not saving them. I let all of them go and by the end, buying basically every plasmid and upgrade I could, I still had over 100 ADAM left.

Big Daddy tip: Once you get the crossbow, abuse the trap bolts as much as you can. You can bring down an Elite Rosie with about 5 already. Before that, just keep moving and shooting the bastard, if possible hack nearby turrets.

Bioshock is really unique.
I've had it for just about two weeks. Took me that long to finish it off because of work, school, band practice, and friends.

There's a lot of elements it has that I've found interesting.

The scary element, goes away quickly. It's nearly impossible to die. I completed it without dying around the first time. The lights going out, fog filling in, all that goes away after the very first time you're playing.

I will say that I'm impressed with the enemies. I can't say how many times I've walked into a room with several enemies appearing to be "dead" on the ground, who then hop up and attack you, giving you that "Holy shit!" feeling.

The Big Daddy thing is pretty epic. The first time I ran into one with a Little Sister, I shot it accidently. Bad idea. Still took it out though. I think they're a bit easier than what they've been acredited for.

Overall, this game is pretty intense.

Graphic-wise, I've seen some really insane things. 10/10.
Gameplay-wise, 10/10.
Length, 7/10. Most games haven't lasted long so far, except Forza Motorsport.

I must admit this game is incredible, I played the demo and I thought that ended on a VERY good note...with you trapped in the room and the splicers hitting the glass.

And then my brother bought the game, and it lives up to the impression the demo gave it.

The scariness does kind of fade when you cannot die, but there are some really scary bits that make you jump or freak out

for example when i was exploring just before the surgeon boss, and found a dentists office I think it was. I wander in there and see a tonic so I thought, great! Walked over to get it and suddenly the screen was covered in some kind of fog, I was looking at the wall at the time, and when it cleared there was a shadow of a man on it, I turn round and theres a splicer dressed as a surgeon staring at me

I absolutely crapped myself

I kind of stopped playing Bioshock for a while because I've been busy with Gears and Blue Dragon, and Bioshock overheats my Xbox 360 like a motherfucker. Last time I played, I had just killed the third guy in Fort Frolic for the psychopath's "project", and was hunting down the fourth, but I kept running out of money and med-kits. To be honest, so far, I think the hardest part for me was when you are getting the enzyme samples from the beehives in Arcadia, and every time you spray the smoke to get rid of the bees, like 5 splicers come out of nowhere to prevent you from getting said enzymes.

I'm about to leave Neptune's Bounty, I have the camera and all I have to do is knock on the guy's door. But it says I need more Adam, or should get it, so I'll be stronger. but here's the fucked up thing. The fucking Big Daddy's that are walking around, I killed two of them. But when it came time for me to either save or harvest the little sister, she wasn't no where to be found!! I was like, "what the fuck". I seriously looked everywhere and it highly pissed me off. Well, at one i was like, fuck it and decided to go for the camera, i done so, got it, etc, etc, etc. Well, I came back to the area just before the place to knock on Peach's door and I hear the groan of a Big Daddy and the talk of a little sister.

I became really mad because I didn't want to fight one again, so I can MAYBE get the adam from the little sister, when she might not even fucking be there! So I saved it, and just quit for the night.

Anyone else had ever had this problem? Ammo and shit isn't cheap ya know.

I'm about to leave Neptune's Bounty, I have the camera and all I have to do is knock on the guy's door. But it says I need more Adam, or should get it, so I'll be stronger. but here's the fucked up thing. The fucking Big Daddy's that are walking around, I killed two of them. Yeah, I had that problem and after investigating a bit, I noticed a few things. One of which is, sometimes there will be Big Daddies roaming randomly about, with no Little Sister to speak of. Another is, if you were to kill a Big Daddy who is guarding a Sister, and the Sister runs away and hides from you long enough, another Big Daddy will show up to protect her. I ended up fighting something like 4 Big Daddies at the point you're at, however, and I almost think it's just a part of the game.

Well damn, thtas annoying as fuck, because well, I don't think I have lots of ammo to waste on them things, let alone Medpacks and EVE Hypos, and I don't have a lot of money to get supplies and stuff too. Maybe the normal pistol rounds, but they don't hardly do a damn thing to Big Daddies.

It's kinda aggravating in a sense.

Find a big daddy, stay hidden for long enough & follow him at a distance, he will call a little sister out of there hidey holes, you slaughter and get the sister.

Keep in mind that once you harvest / save every little sister in the level, no more will spawn, however big daddies will still be around.

No need to. Big Daddies only attack when aggravated or Little sister points at you.

If you are in plain sight of a big daddy when they call on little sisters, there is a very good chance the sisters will not come out, you have to be hidden because he thinks it is safe.

I didn't even know about their cubby hole thigns until last night. I was following the Big Daddy and little sister and she goes, "Take me home now Mr. Bubbles" and he lifts her up and she climbs in that hole. I was like, "so thats what those things are?" I had seen them but hadn't any idea.

Either way, I'm still going to have to kill them again.

Jon the camera isn't enough. You need to take three pictures of spider splicers. Also I didn't have that problem with the Little Sisters. Did you make sure the sisters were there in the first place? Some big daddies walk around without them.

Oh, I took the pictures of the spider splicers and everything. I could have sworn I mentioned I got the camera and do everything else needed. Maybe I didnt. Anyway, I done that. Well, I guess I know about the Big Daddie's walking around without them, but the first one I killed in Neptune's Bounty(the first one you see as you go through the door to the docks) had a Little Sister with him. Unless what had happened was when I finally went to it, it was a different one or she went into her hole and such.

I know which one you mean, I also avoided him as soon as I started the level. When I came back to him at the end, no little sister. I didn't know if I was hallucinating or what, but that's the only level I've missed a little sister on. I searched for like a half hour and only found death.
