I am not going to review it, because frankly, it is a huge game and I have only been playing for 2 days, however I will give my first impressions.

Tabula Rasa has promised to bring some new innovations to the MMORPG market. They have succeeded in so many ways.

1) The combat system.

Tabula Rasa could probably be called a MMORPGFPS, but that is retarded and far too long to be an abbreviations. But it does explain what Tabula Rasa is. It is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game First Person Shooter.

You level up as gain xp from defeating enemies like in all MMORPG's, but you control your combat, when I am firing, I am firing, when I let go of fire, I stop. My enemy can continue to attack but I am just standing there. The totally gets rid of the traditional I hit you while you hit me, and if I have better stats or I have enough bandages then I win. Standing still in this game during combat is a really good way to die. There are many different types of weapons, from pistols, rifles, shot guns, chain guns and a bunch I haven't even seen yet. I don't know if there is any kind of dual weilding at this point but I am leaning twoards no.

On top of weapons, there is also special abilities which you unlock based on your class and your known "Logos" which are like unlockable capabilities in yourself that you achieved through points on the maps. They are similar to the kind of WoW abilities like there is one that allows you to run faster for a limited time and one that allows you to electrocute enemies from a distance. Special abilities use 2 types of "Mana" fighting abilities typically use Adrenaline which is recharged through combat and by defeating enemies, meaning if you are using the "Rage" ability which boosts you damage in combat, while you are defeating enemies, you are basically fueling it while you use it. The other type of mana, that so far I have used for the Lightning attack is Power and it is recharged slowly on its own.

2) The "Cloning" system

One of the major things that sucks about most MMO's is that you have to start from scratch if you want to build a new character. Tabula Rasa changes this by allowing you to "Clone" your character, basically making a copy of your character at that point in time with the same class and stats.

Some people might see me say "Class" and say oh great now I just have another guy that is identical to my current one how does that help me. That is because on tabula rasa everyone starts as the exact same class, the "Recruit". Every time you hit a certain level point (the first is level 5) you are presented with a choice, will you be a _____ or a ______. This is where cloning comes in. You make a clone of your character before choosing, and then you are allowed to go back and make the opposite choice with the clone allowing you to experience every class in the game without ever having to start from scratch unless you wanted to.

3) Stuff I can't group together

Between looking great on my machine, and the large variety of quests that kept me far from feeling that the game was repetitious I can honestly say that I love this game and I play on being a subscriber as soon as my first 3 days are up.

There is alot of stuff that I haven't said that I could probably talk about but it is awesome and I will leave you with about 30 minutes of video from the creator Richard Garriot (Also the creator of the mother of all modern MMO's "Ultima Online")

It looks pretty damn awesome. I don't have great enough internet to view such huge movie files, but I'm already getting kind of hooked just from reading about it. One thing I need to know though, does it cost per month like WoW?

Yes it does, most MMO's do and while I don't agree with the price, the money does go towards keeping the servers online as it takes a massive amount of servers to keep a large community online.

Tabula Rasa is 13.95 if I recall correctly, but if it is like most MMO's I have played you probably can get a discount if you buy more that one month at once.

I found online versions of the video too http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/12007

I've heard a lot of good things about this, and it looks like they were on the mark. Is there some sort of free trial or something? I'd like to give it a go. I really don't want to have to pay a lot, as I might start paying for Hellgate: London, plus I have my monthly internet bill and other expenses. But if the game is worth it, I might.

There is a 3 day free trial that you can only get from current members. Mine expires tomorrow and if I can scrape together the cash to buy it I will send you and invite. The client is about 2GB so be prepared to download that. The only other option is to buy the Client $50 dunno what it is in euros but you get a free month from that.

I Beta tested this. Got through the tutorial and a few missions at the start and never touched it again. Not my cup of tea.
