Eighth Wonder of the World (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=495538&in_page_id=1811)

How fucking cool is that?

Slightly insane and creepy but very fucking cool and awesome all the same.

It does kind of give you some hope in human creativity, ingenuity and determination.

That guy must have had a lot of time on his hands. Really cool though.

Cristo

Well he and a group of people have been working on it since 1977.

That place is beautiful! I'd love to go there. Looks like a ton of work went into that. I hope National Geo or Discovery or someone does a documentary on that.

Way to ruin the movie asshole.

Maybe I missed it by not reading the article, but what exactly is creepy about this? Its quite nice looking.

Whoa, that definatly deserves a spot on the list of wonders. Did it say how many people acually helped with the project?

Werty

Can anyone post the pictures/quote the article? I can't access the page for some reason.

Bearing in mind the whole thing is built underground into solid rock and has taken since 1977 to come to completion.

And I think there's 9 temples in total, pretty impressive.

1,500 post w00t.

It's good, but nowhere near being a "world wonder." If that is the case why isn't the Sistine Chapel one?

Learn how to fucking type eighth Cristo.

Learn to fucking read, I spelt it right in my post but it was a simple typo in the title. God it must be hard being perfect Happinessman :(

And Spastic I really do think it's a wonder of the world. All of this was done secretly, by a few people with pickaxes and chisels all underground. And it's massive, 300,000 cubic feet compared to Big Ben's 15,000 cubic feet. It was no easy feat.

I think it deserves some title<maybe not a world wonder but something.

That place is insane. I cannot imagine the amount of work it took to create that. If they opened it up to tourists, I would definitely go to visit.

This place definitely has the potential to put the Great Wall of China out of business.

Its freaky peteaboda1 because the guy thought he had visions of his past life and based them after that or something. So he dreamed up this temples, kind of weird I guess.

Think of how much they would charge us to see it, ouch. Otherwises, if it was opened and free or cheap to see, I would be there in a quick second.

So would graffiti artists. I hope they never get in there, those temples are beautiful.

That is amazing. The coolest part about that is that it's built under some crappy house.

I think you'll find eighth wonder of the world has already been claimed:

Yeah but is it earthquake proof?

El Mojado
11-23-2007, 7:05 PM
It is. Infact I've never seen anything as wonderful as that. I wished I had that at my house.

EDIT: Kevosk has a point, is it earthquake proof? If it not, lets hope that there isn't a giant earthquake. A 5.0 more is going to distroy it. A 3.0 is going crack it. Another things is that if it catches on fire.

If there's a giant earthquake, I think people will be more concerned for the lives of people.

And last time I checked, stone doesn't burn too well.

But is it sledgehammer proof? Someone'll need to go check.

That'd be pretty sweet to visit. I love buildings that have secrets held in it. I'm a big fan of the mag Weird NJ... Def. recommend visiting some locations if you have an issue and are around Jersey.

How does the light get in through the glass and such if it's 100 feet underground?

Cool. It would be more awesome if it was built centuries ago though.

Absolutely awesome -- I would have preferred it more if the artwork was completely original, i.e. I find it annoying they had to throw in different cultural aspects into one bizarre bundle rather than making their own authentic ideas.

There are way too many eighth wonders of the world. Make up your mind already.

As for on topic. Absolutley stunning, could possibly be compared with the greats of art.

The place looks grand though. I'm going to Italy so I might actually have a chance to see it.

sorry to tell you, but six of the original seven wonders of the world don't exist anymore.

meTalmessiah
11-25-2007, 5:18 PM
Really? Which ones are those?

I could be completely off on this one, but I thought the Coliseum, the Hanging Gardens, the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Wall etc were all wonders, and they're still around.

crowey
11-26-2007, 6:52 AM
the original 7 were: Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes and Lighthouse of Alexandria.
of which only the pyramids still exist (there are ruins of some of the others....).

anyhoo, the temple is pretty amazing, especially as it doesn't seem any of them had construction experience (though maybe the article skimmed over that).
