Real forums used to exist, where people would actually go to place and chat with other people.

My question is, what do you think the idea of real life forums? Would you go to one, the pros and cons etc.

Personally, I think it would be a fun idea. It would mean talking to people in person vs. over the internet. It confirms identity. You could also end up with real-life friends.

Of course that could be a problem, because with the internet, you can mask your identity, dissapear if something goes wrong. With real-life it sticks.

A real-life forum would probably work like an internet forum. Time-outs for flaming and idiocity, while there would be regulars are newbs. Just imagine! Real life goatsing as well!

Internet anonymity is better, I think. Plus, the internet allows people to talk to others all over the world. I'm not going to fly to Australia just to talk about a new video game.

Yeah, this way you get a range of opinions from around the world.

But in real life people would know I'm masturbating. I don't see the benefit of that at all.

You wont be looking at porn when talking, Rob. And, I too don't think this is a good reason. (Read other people's posts)

Circlejerks in real life as well :heya:.

Opinions from around the world seems nice, but I don't really give a fuck if you're from peru, america or india. I just talk on the forums because it is nice to talk to people about general ideas. Do some of you actually take major notice of people's nationalities on here?

Um, there is a real life forum. It's called a mall. Or any other store. It's just not called a "forum" like they called it the old roman days.

So ya I think it would be a great idea and would work out super! :)

Talking to people in person... the way of the future?

It sounds like an easy way to make new friends with common interests. On the other hand, in a large crowd you are nobody, and nobody gives a fuck about your opinions or what you have to say. Although, Explosm works like that too, you have to earn respect and work your way up. I like the internet anonymity, you don't know who you can trust in a large group of people.

Do some of you actually take major notice of people's nationalities on here?
It's not a big deal, but I do notice. It's neat to be able to talk with people all over the world because it's not always easy to find people who want to talk about what you want to talk about in real life.

It would make asking for nudes a lot more awkward.

Flaming would be terrible, possibly ending up in physical violence if someone gets really offended. Also there would be no ignore list in real life, so you'd have no way to get rid of annoying fuckers

I think it is a bad idea. Anonymity is the reason most people go on internet forums instead of meeting with people in real life. The only thing that might be kind of interesting would be a webcam chat with a bunch of people from a specific forum.

Real life forums?
You mean like going to parties and having friends?

This post got butchered by the "jokes." But yeah, some public access stations have certain topics... like KISS or Stargate SG-1 (family guy anyone?) or even religion or news, etc. etc. But unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they get bombarded with pranksters too. Gotta love LIVE television to phone recordings.

In a real forum, you're just a face in a crowd. Also, you can't see other peoples' post count in real life.

I'd only join a real life forum if everyone was wearing a toga. Or perhaps if there was some gladiator fighting occuring at the same time.

I enjoy the anonymity of the internet. It provides a safe, white-picketed playground in which my sheltered-but-curious inner child may carelessly frolic about.

Mailman? What the hell are you doing here man? I forgot you even came to this forum still. Nice to see you.

Oh and I'd meet any of you in person as long as you didn't try to kill, molest, hurt, etc- me.

But what I do on these forums would be assault and perhaps rape in real life.

Isn't that kind of what conventions are? Not necessarily huge cons that everyone and their dog goes to, but smaller cons. Especially if they have a message board on the website for it. Because then you go, and there is some discussion like "Are you so-and-so from the boards?!" And cons always have the time outs for complete insanity, as well as serious discussions.

I think it would be a great idea. Gathering a bunch of random people at some place to discuss various topics.
I'm in as far as no one brings up 2 girls 1 cup in there.

it would be cool but also kind of bad. what would happen when no one wants to say anything and we all just kind of sit there.

i would love to be in a real life spame forum though. that would be one hell of a trip

Wouldn't you just take a hit of acid or something? Maybe heroin? Or would those not be sufficient enough?

Somehow, I don't think the forums would be as funny in real life.

Come on, Crow... I wouldn't actually say all that after each and every utterance.

I would have a trained monkey pass out leaflets with the disclaimer printed on it.

Whadd'ya say, JonC? Give one of these to everyone, will ya?

I don't know about everyone else, but I wouldn't travel somewhere to meet a bunch of people I know on the internet.

Anybody could easily make an exception for that if the person you met online lives 5 minutes away from your house.

The real life spame would be terrible, because nobody can be that much of a jerk in real life and not feel bad.
Also then people might actually have to start thinking of the other forum goers as real people, and nobody wants that.

waitwhat?

I'd need to develope some social skills first. Plus - I'm not really into "people" - I prefer to look at everybody online as magical words that appear out of nowhere...

There's a forum at my college. Except that when I go there I usually have to do some kind of schoolwork, so it's not as fun as that sounds. Very few toga clad orgies.

I'm guessing even at an real life Explosm forum you'd get banned for using smilies in a dumb manner. Imagine, its your turn to speak and you just salute (to mock the : salute: smiley -- though it'd be appropriate) and you'd have to leave or something.

I think it would be fun. Like these English Gentleman's Clubs. Dress up ,smoke ,drink ,talk about the colonies and your slaves and try to guess who is Jack the Ripper.
I never really enjoyed an internet discussion. It lacks so much ,intonation, body language and all this stuff. Talking to people in RL is fun on a forum not so much.
Do not get me wrong I like this forum but I prefer real talking.

Perhaps I'm just a social leper, but I prefer talking online. It usually cuts through all of the bullshit. On forums, people get to the point. People also say and joke about things on the internet that they wouldn't dare say nor joke about in real life. The online community is a very loose and liberal place where people can feel unencumbered by social pressure and/or self-consciousness. That lack of social taboos and restrictions and class-ism leads to very honest, open, and engaging conversation.
