Yeah. Apparently, McFarlane Toys made these creepy figures that were based upon the Wizard of Oz. McFarlane Toys liked them so much apparently, they are going to make a PG-13 movie based on the 1920s movie and book.

Discuss that weird picture of Dorothy and the "munchkins"

I guess it could be cool, a dark wizard of oz. It reminds me of Return to Oz though, a sequel that like, no one has heard of that starts off with Dorothy sent to a nut house for shock therapy, she ends up in oz and oz is basically destroyed. I personally think it was better than the regular version, so this might actually be interesting. If it is anything like that picture, it could be an interesting twist to the original.

Well it certainly can't be any worse than The Wiz. This actually looks pretty sweet and would be much sweeter if it wasn't "Harry Potter dark not Seven dark".

I don't know why they never made any movies on the sequels. There's like 6 books (actually, I think Disney made a movie based on the 2nd book). They're actually pretty sweet. There's some weird shit that goes on in those books.

Ah, I saw that once and loved it. Never saw it again though.

Also, that picture of uh, whoever the hell those people are is pretty damn weird :indiff:

Ugh, don't get me wrong, I like MacFarlane's approach for the figures, but I doubt they'll be able to pull off a decent movie using that concept. It'll probably be cheesy and be more of an 'eye-candy' film than a good plot. Think if it as a watered-down version of Pan's Labyrinth.

I think they should do it, either go hardcore pg-13 or serious R.

They need to make the movie really crazy if they want to pull it off.

That movie you all are talking about is Return to Oz (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089908/) and it stars a very young Fairuza balk. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000103/) I remember seeing this as a little kid and not believing my parents let me watch it because it was just so bizarre. It's definitely got a style all it's own with a flying moose head couch, a robot soldier named Tic Toc, evil clowns with bicycle wheel feet, and a witch named Moomby with a collection of heads.

I don't know about that. They did a sort of twisted take on Alice in Wonderland for the game Alice, and if I am not mistaken they even had really cool figurines.

This could very easily turn out to be awesome.
I always thought it was a good story, minus the dumbass protagonist. If they manage to creepy it up, it could be very good indeed.

That's actually, if I'm not mistaken, the 2nd and third book put together with the shock therapy added in. And the whole business with the Nome King is changed slightly (in the book he kidnapped some Queen's 10 children and turned them into glass figurines). Everything else though (the robot soldier, the clowns, the witch) was found in the original books.

Why is it culture these days has to take everything innocent and make it dark? Saying that I would still go see it. I love weird dark movies. Just going to point out that Dorthy is looking a little S&M in that picture.

Aw this reminds me of that phase Tim Burton went through when he tried emoing the shit out of everything.

I didn't like the Wizard of Oz story. I don't know if I'll like this, it's not the type of thing I'd watch.

Anyway, here's more:

Actually, the original story was much darker and creepy. Disney has a habit of candy coating everything. So if anything, they would be getting closer to the way it was supposed to be.
