Who could rule the world?

I was thinking today, if there had to be one supreme world ruler, who should it be? So, in typical forum fashion, I'm passing this question on to you.


Who do you think could do a good job ruling the world and why?


It can be anybody you think could do a decent job, just as long as you can supply a good, educated reason why.

Jokes aside, there would be small rebellions all over the place. One man (or woman) can't rule 6.5 billion people single-handedly, it's just too much for one person to handle. There'd have to be a large pyramid of rulers and the guy at the top doesn't really have to do anything, just keep the sub-rulers who actually do the dirty work in line. Sounds like just about any nation, or any organized body for that matter, only on a larger scale.

I don't think anyone would be able to rise to tyrannical power today because the balance of power is too divided. Nobody holds all the cards. Let's say George Bush tried to pull a Hitler. At least one nation with the power to stop him (UK, Russia, or China - I'm not even gonna count France) would do it, not to mention internal rebellion. The same applies for every every other powerful nation/leader in the world today.

3. I have the ego for the job. No seriously. I could run the world, it's easy. Just make sure my will is done and people shut the fuck up with their complaining, punishing even minor crimes with severe punishments and ensuring only my army have access to weapons. Easy.

4. The only thing that really matters is how rich and all powerful I am. If you stop caring about whether six billion-ish people live or die, running the world is much easier.

5. The most convincing argument I can present is; Why not? I mean you could either fight an expensive and deadly war against my all powerful army in which billions of people die, and face my wrath at the end of it, or you and your pussy UN could just lay down your arms and just let me take over. I mean, do you really want billions of deaths on your hands, you immoral fucks?

So in conclusion, I can't really see a problem with me being in control of the world. Can you?

In my opinion, there won't be anybody at this point in time that could rule the world. There would need to be some sort of outside threat, ala The Buggers from Ender's Game and the world's cooperation would be required to save us.

I agree. If you wanted to maintain control, the person's first act would have to be a series of large-scale slaughters. As such, I don't see any Western nations being able to pull it off.

So, apart from the West, we basically only have China left. Africa couldn't and neither could the Middle East, so that leaves Eastern Asia and that means China. Europe would be a cakewalk and the US couldn't win a war on the most war-winning day of its life, so that leaves Russia to stop them but they still haven't rebuilt from the end of the Cold War.

Seriously, though, before we could even go about having a world vote for a leader, we'd have to unite ourselves as something more than just fellow humans. As of right now, every nation has pretty much its own rules and regulations and if it's not in bad enough condition, it's left to it's own devices. We'd have to unite under one banner, which with religion and cultural beliefs is currently impossible. Not to mention if over 6 and a half billion people were voting, we'd have millions of candidates and the narrowing would take years. By the time a final decision were reached, the final two candidates would most likely have elicited enough hate from those who didn't originally vote for them that the final vote would be terribly corrupted.
Another factor is where the world headquarters would be. My guess is somewhere in Europe, possibly near the Mediterranean. I guess that doesn't really matter...

As of right now I'm going to stick with democracy. Like Tweek said first, the man or woman at the top would simply be a pretty face.

I could imagine it being in Europe but most likely more northern so I'd take a guess at France or Germany, maybe in the UK. Or even Switzerland since they're neutral but I wouldn't like being ruled over by the Swiss.

By the time we're deciding on a world leader, I'm sure all that would be settled. It's warm there and I'm sure if everyone on the planet managed to decide on a single person to be our spokesman for whatever than it's because we're all also united under one religion. I'm guessing that religion would be Christians just because. And Eden or something, I guess?

I'm not the most religious person, but I think Pope John Paul II could rule the world. He already ran the entire Catholic church, after all. All his decisions would be guided by Catholic morals, so there wouldn't be any war... not that you'd want to declare war on your own country. All the poor would be looked after, etc.
