View Full Version : Explosm: The Vacation

Grim
12-05-2007, 4:45 PM
Well here it is folks. The sign up sheet.

After having lost most of its citizens to a contagious penguin
disease, Explosm City was close to being closed for good, for lack of
people to pay taxes. Until, that is, the newly elected mayor Grim had
an idea. Perhaps immigration would increase if he sponsored a little
getaway for citizens free-of-charge?
And Grim's most trusted aid, Fr0z3n, just so happened to know the
perfect place. In the course of his travels, Fr0z3n had discovered an
uninhabited, uncharted tropical paradise. A few weeks there would
certainly be enough to persuade people to move to Explosm City...
After all, any place that was willing to give away vacations couldn't
be such a bad place to live.
And so Grim did advertise the vacation, and the people did come.
But unfortunately for many of the soon-to-be citizens, the uninhabited
island was uninhabited for a reason. The one-time inhabitants had left
a curse on it, and several of those who landed on the island became
possessed by their spirits. Determined to keep the island for
themselves, the spirits seek to kill off the trespassers one by one.
But homicidal spirits are not the only danger to be faced on the
island. Hearing of an uncharted, uninhabited potential hideout, a
certain organization had an idea... and it didn't include vacationing.
The New Outrageously Organized Business Syndicate (or NOOBS for short)
wanted the island as a base of operations for their illegal
activities, and a certain number of members were masquerading as
potential immigrants in order to scout out the island and eliminate
all non-NOOBS one by one so that the location would remain a secret.
Heres a summary of the roles people will be assigned:

Side One: The "Good Guys"
Citizens -- Know nothing about anyone. Must vote to kill.
Cop -- Knows only about himself. Can kill one person per turn. Can investigate the loyalties of any one person each turn.
Cannot determine the loyalties of spirits.

Side Two: The "Spirits"
The Possessed -- Know nothing about anyone... initially. Each
Possessed selects a target each turn. That person has a (number of
Possessed targeting him divided by total number of Possessed times
100)% chance of dying that round. If the target is another Possessed,
both of them are notified of each other's existence and can
communicate from then on. Only one person will be killed each round
due to the Possessed.

Side Three: The "Mafia"
NOOBS -- Know about and can communicate with other NOOBS, but don't
know of spirits. Traditional secret-vote-to-kill system.
Important: Anyone will be allowed reveal their identity. Anyone will be allowed lie about their identity. Don't assume that someone is who they say they are.

Players will be assigned roles by Random Number Generator. Similarities in username to role and prior activities will not be taken into account.

Certain game mechanics have been withheld from this list to be used later as "twists".

Recruitment will be open until Sunday at 12pm central time (GMT -6:00), at which point PMs will be sent to the people who signed up to confirm activity. 48 hours will be given to respond to the PMs, after which those who do not respond will be removed from the game.

The game will start within 48 hours of the time limit for response to PMs.

Updates will be posted approximately every 72 hours. This may change if the rounds seem too short or too long to the game hosts.

If possessed/mobsters don't turn in their vote to Grim and me by the end of the round, their vote is not counted for that round.

PMs are allowed throughout the game between all players, and the same rules that apply to the game apply to them (You can say you are on any side, even if you aren't).

Yes you can play. Also the amount of NOOBS and possessed depends on how many people are going to play.

Vacation on a haunted island? Hell yes!

Edit - Just to clarify the possessed thing: Say there are 7 spirits. Each of them votes for a different citizen/noob. Each of those 7 people has a 1/7 chance of dying that round. If 2 spirits vote for the same person and the other 5 all vote for different ones, the one person has a 2/7 chance of dying and the other five each a 1/7 chance? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, I have one question relating to what jj was asking about. You said only 1 person can die of a spirit killing. So, if one works, all the other chances are nullified, right?

Pig Fucker
12-06-2007, 5:08 PM
He'll probably assign each spirit a number, then use a random number generator to decide which spirit's victim is chosen. That way, the probability would still be right for each victim, but only one would be chosen per round.

The amazing mayor's aid (and co-host) Fr0z3n has arrived to answer your questions pertaining to the game!

I meant more like, a quarter, 10%, something that you don't need to know the total number for.

It will be the number calculated to give all three sides as even a chance of winning as possible.

The exact number will be withheld, perhaps for use in an update or as a hint.

You are correct.

Fig is pretty close. Actually we're planning on assigning people a range of numbers from 1-100, with bigger ranges being given to those with more votes. One roll of the random number generator later, one of them is dead.

Fig's method is more accurate. Just sayin'.

Thus why most of us are on Explosm in the first place.

I wasn't thinking about that... although it does seem to be more precise. I think I'll change my selection method to Fig's.

Thus why most of us are on Explosm in the first place.

Amen to that.

Twenty people signed up as of this moment. Five more to reach my low-end goal.

To avoid confusion, fr0z3n and Grim, on the first post in the actual game thread, put the rules. Crabstick didn't do this and some people (including myself) forgot some of the rules.
The rules we forgot were minor, but just in case, I'd put the rules in the new thread too.

Not a bad idea. Couldn't hurt at any rate.

Speaking of rules, I just noticed that two are missing from the main post in this thread:

1) If possessed/mobsters don't turn in their vote to Grim and me by the end of the round, their vote is not counted for that round.

2) PMs are allowed throughout the game between all players, and the same rules that apply to the game apply to them (You can say you are on any side, even if you aren't).
