There's a problem with racism on the forums, what with people using words like "nigger" and "faggot," which are both pretty insensitive. However, it has been noted that society pretty much says it's okay for one African American person to call another a "nigger," and it's okay for one homosexual to call another homosexual a "faggot."

So what I was thinking of doing to address this problem is why not adding (in due time of course) two fields in the user profile, one for ethnicity, and one for sexuality. Then, if you choose something like "black" and "homosexual," you will be able to use the words "nigger" and "faggot" without being banned for racism or bigotry. It would be relatively easy to display a little brown star to denote being an African American, and a little pink star to denote being a homosexual, right above your custom title, so everybody else can be aware and respond to your posts accordingly.

What do you guys think? I personally feel this will clear up a lot of confusion and make the mods' and admins' jobs a lot easier, as well as eliminate a lot of the hate speech and overall unfriendly atmosphere on the forums.

That's a horrible idea. Words like nigger and faggot should never be used, even by their respected participators. Faggot is offensive to anyone who is gay or smokes cigarettes, and Nigger is an extremely racist term that was used back in the 1800s to lower African Americans' self esteem on the cotton plantations.

I say that anyone who says it should get a stern lecture.

If you do not like the idea, that is fine, but I still want feedback from the community in general because I think it would solve a lot of recurring issues.

I mean I could go further than my original statement and suggest that because there are a lot of other ethnicities represented on the forums. And sexualities. Maybe different coloured triangles for sexualities (do bisexuals have a colour?), and different coloured stars for ethnicities. So you can have a different colour for Caucasian, African, Mexican, Asian. Actually, you could get religions in the mix too. A little cross for Christians, a black circle or something for Atheist, and a yellow star for Jewish. But I just wanted to suggest a "starting point" if you will, to introduce people to the concept. Plus to stop people from changing preferences you would only be able to set your preferences once, and after that, they are not editable. This kind of fixes the loophole.

We are all the same. We can't get categorized on a forum by our ethnicy, that's just wrong. I think the better solution would be to just filter those words or ban for using them like they already do.

I don't think it's a good idea. It shouldn't be ok for homosexuals and black people to call eachother niggers or faggots. Just because a person is balck doesn't mean it isn't racist to say nigger. It shouldn't be acceptable.

I agree that there should be a male/female thing of somekind, it gets really confusing sometimes. Other than that, I dont really know. Maybe not the best idea.

The only problem I find is that some people will jump to conclusions if they're replying to the post of someone who happens to have a 'star', but surely only a homophobe or racist will resort to such a low level of maturity.

Maybe we don't necessarily need a star -- possibly just a portion of the profile can include things like 'Ethnicity/Sexual Orientation/Religious Beliefs' and such. That would also save a lot of pointless thread topics.

i dont belive that there isnt any black person that is "OK" with being called nigger. Society doesnt lead anyone to believe that. They say nigga, not nigger.
