Alright so I am aware that the xbox is able to have 2 players online on one console. However, I do not know how many live accounts are needed for this. My friend and I were going to use his in box 48 hour free thing with both of us on the console with halo 3. Do we need more than one account with live? Will it work with the trial? All help much appreciated.

Nope, with Halo 3, Rock Band and Gears of War for sure, you can have a second player pick "Guest" in the account sign-in screen. You can't play ranked games with a guest though.
EDIT: With Halo 3 and Rock Band you can have more than one guest, actually. Gears of War only supports 2 per console.

So we can both play, on the 48 hour thing, by selecting guest and just entering a game?

I have been reading about the trial and I can't seem to get an answer from it. Apparently it doesn't let you access things like the marketplace etc. So does that mean it will not allow a guest to participate? Has anyone done this?

If your using a guest account you won't need to use the 48 hour trial. Infact I don't think they even need a Live account, but probably will need a profile on the 360 being used. However it really depends from game to game. I'm not familiar with the layout with Halo 3, I know that guests can play unranked matches and custom matches.

Does your friend have Xbox Live without the trial?
Or do you want your friend to use the trial and you be a guest off the trial account.
Either way it should work for Halo 3.

Right, you need to use the trial and make ONE account. then go online and once you enter the multiplayer online mode screen (where you select game modes and whatnot) you should be able to then sign in as a guest for player two. therefore 2player online is formed. * On gears of war once you are on the mode select screen online, press the Y button pn player 2 controller to be able to sign in as a guest.

you're friends can also recover their gamertags on your console.

Last time I was at my friend's house we tried to recover my Gamertag but it failed. He had run out of his Xbox live trial, but I didn't think that would matter.
Was it just a connection problem or do you need gold membership to recover a tag?
It all depends on the game. Some allow guests, some don't.

This is an OLD ASS THREAD. Someone revived it this event happened and thank ou all for your help but any posts since like the 5th one have been in vain. Thanks for the help though. I have another 360 question up now if you feel the need to spread your knowledge (not thread advertising for my thread in my thread etc.) However this is pointless.
