Grunge, if you don't know, is a genre of music. It's a punky, metal sort of style and was popular during the 80's and early 90's. I've been an avid fan of Grunge bands for quite a while now and I want to know if anyone actually still likes it and what grunge bands they listen to.
I listen to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots. If anyone knows any more, please say so.

EDIT: and albums of said band that you own.

FYI: You accidently put a Music tag on this thread.

Grunge is generally pretty shit. Though I have to say I am a big STP and Alice in Chains fan. They just made good music.

Thanks, I listened to all their songs and I really liked Mudhoney and Greenriver, the other three were kinda irritating.

Mudhoney and Greenriver have the same singer, Mark Arm. Also members from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are from Greenriver.

I hate Nirvana with a passion, but for some reason I like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots are probably the only grunge bands I would say are worth a listen. Try out Temple Of The Dog if you can find some of their stuff though. Also try Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains's solo stuff, not really grungey, but good music.

I am a pretty big fan of grunge, but there comes with any band, no matter what the genre, certain songs I just cannot listen to. It's weird.

Pearl Jam piss me off, because all Pearl Jam fans think Pearl Jam is some kind of big fucking cosmic secret that they're in on, and act genuinly suprised when they meet someone else that's heard of them, and treat them like a fellow member of a secret club. They then look at the rest of us with dissaproving down-the-nose stares because apparently it's me who's ignorant about music. I blame Grunge in part for Emo, so I'm pretty damn pissed at all of them, but Pearl Jam REALLY fucking piss me off.

I am however fairly indifferent to Puddle of Mudd, who half count.

Really, Grunge had nothing to do with emo, Kurt Cobain influenced emos but thats because he blew his head off, I think pop punk has influenced emo more as they both have whiny voices and think "punx rox".

How ever I do hate Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedders voice is annoying, in fact I find the whole band annoying.
I do like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, but I think bands like Mudhoney were better and so were the all girl grunge bands.

Soundgarden
Helmet
Kyuss
Screaming Trees
Mother Love Bone
Melvins
L7

Those are some grunge bands worth checking out. Also of note are some of the influences like The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Black Flag, and early Butthole Surfers.

Pearl Jam is awesome. Nirvana is good too, but overrated indeed. I know a girl who makes a big deal and celebrates Kurt Cobain's birthday and death. :indiff:

Soundgarden and STP are two of my favorite bands, but generally I'm not out to look for grunge. I do like Alice in Chains as well, though I need more of their stuff. Recently I have been way too into QotSA so I haven't listened to any of the said bands in a while.

Just out of interest was that MEANT to be the stereotypical response thrown out fro comic effect, or are you just a cliche? And Pop punk does have a degree of the cross to bear for Emo, but grunge has to take it's responsibility as well.

Grunge was the first to start in with the feelings and the anger shit. Grunge isn't really similar to Emo in any other way and shouldn't be hated because of its hand in Emo.* But it really is a big basis for what developed into the Emo scene.

*Should be hated for sucking.

Grunge was more about anger, whereas Emo is just about being a pussy and not doing anything about it.

Love Battery and Hole are pretty good.

I hate Nirvana. The only Nirvana song I've ever liked was Polly. Kurt Cobain's voice irritates the crap out of me, and the music is really overplayed.

Grunge's influence was semantic, not musical. Basically it made it ok to be pessimistic and angsty and depressed in most of a band's songs. Sure it had a focus in anger, but the other stuff was still there and you don't hear many hopeful or happy grunge songs.
