Soul Calibur IV

How many of you are anticipating this game? To be honest, I couldn't care less about the game. I didn't like III all that much, and I can't recall if I played II.

But, I randomly went to starwars.com today, and there was a video which said, "Soul Calibur IV", and I thought it was just some fan-made video. Turns out its not! Darth Vader and Yoda are going to be in it. Vader for the PS3 and Yoda for the Xbox360. I nearly shit myself.

Soul Caliber II was amazing and the SHIT.

But Soul Caliber III, as JonC said, was horrible. The storymode was really gay, and the character creation was just as bad.

So really I don't have high hopes for a new one... :indiff:

I've played SCII but I never really got into it. Maybe I'll pick it up if this one gets amazing reviews, but it would really suck if this wasn't online and you couldn't pin Yoda against Darth Vader.

They pretty much jumped the shark with Star Wars in Soul Calibur.
SCII was great though, and Link was the shit man.

What I don't get is, isn't there supposed to be a different weapon set for every character? How can Vader and Yoda have that if they use the same lightsaber every time? Also, their saber blades are colored their regular colors, but the motion blurs are blue. :mad:

You'd think the small fact that a metal sword vs a laser-fueled-laser-sword-that-can-laser-through-anything doesn't come out too well could create some impact on game development.

I didn't like when they started introducing console specific characters because they never felt very well done, they were just thrown on at the last second as extra incentive to buy the game. Also, Soul Calibur fell off since the first and second ones.. And who can honestly say that they played as Heihachi often on their PS2 version? He has no fucking weapons in a weapon-based game!

This is a fun little easter egg, I highly doubt it'll be advertised as 'OMG STAR WAS FIGHTIN GAM' not major fighters or even affect the quality of the main game.

Yeah, but that was good integration, unlockable and all. I'm under the impression that you can use these guys from the begining.

Errr, Soul Calibur in itself has never had much of a storyline, everyone just wants these souls swords and that's about it.

Well, I have a 360. But I think I would prefer having Yoda over Vader. But still, it is a bit hard to imagine two futuristic light saber force wielding characters fighting the main characters of SC. I owned SC2 and loved it, but I never played 3. It is a cool little easter egg if you have to earn them, but it isn't looking like its gonna be that way.

Sounds like the basic premise for every Soul Calibur game, minus ships add timeportal/treasure/whatever.

Thank god for the release dates, though. The release date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl made it seemed like you Brits and Aussies were punished for some reason (and the U.S to a much lesser extent).

I decided to look into this game a little, and apparantly, in both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, the main character in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be playable.

Mainly because I need to know how much staying power it has.
Plus recently I bought DBZ: Burst Limit, not really a bad game but it was bare bones and the online was poor, so I was done with it in about a week.

Each sequel has been getting more and more extreme but there was plenty of jiggle in Soul Calibur 2, and if you already have why not kick it up a notch?

I bought the game and love it. The story mode is slightly bland, but oh well, it suffices and I haven't gotten too far on the Tower of Whatever-the-hell-its-called yet, but I am on the 12-14th floor. I got my ass kicked on the 11th so many times.

I love the fighting and I love the customization features on it. Adds a new level to the game. I have yet to play it online. Maybe to those of us who own it, or are going to own it, we could put matches together and play against one another or something.

Oh and just to anwser some of your questions, Vader will eventually be on the 360 verison of SCIV as a download, while Yoda will be for the PS3 eventually. Which I think is awesome. Also, Yoda's pretty cool to play with, though, I don't want to say he's a "cheap" character, but he's easily used though. It's not even his height, just what he can do.

The problem that ive been seeing with Yoda is that its impossible to grapple him in the game which makes him really cheap. I do love the customization though. And being able to destroy your opponents armor is hi la ri ously awesome.

Anyone can be impossible to grapple if you have a Grapple Break S or somethign on. Well, near impossible anyway. And I've been grappled before by an opponent while playing as Yoda, so its not impossible, unless it was just me not having my guard up or something.

I just unlocked the Secret Apprentice and man, if you can use him well, he is very very powerful. I got my ass kicked ten times or so before I finally beat him. You seriously have to be somewhat cautious when going against him. If you don't he'll tear you apart.

And the most fuckedup thing is, he's harder than Algol is and he's the last person you fight in arcade mode!

Well, get better Yimmit, and I either use my custom character or Yoda or someone else. Yoda can be a cheap character, depending, but honestly, he is a very good character, if you truly know how to use him.
