Fracture is a game coming out between July and September of this year for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. Now, when I first saw this, I read the paragraph of information and wrote it off right away as a Crackdown clone, which most people probably will as well. And from all accounts I can find, that's basically what it is. You play as Jet Brody (though for some reason on the official website it lists that name, then refers to him as 'Briggs' for the rest of the article), a soldier of the Atlantic Alliance. The Atlantic Alliance is one of two factions formed in mid-2100s when a worldwide flood caused by global warming (Oh my lawd, is it too much to ask for them to just be subtle with their political implications in video games, like it used to be?) splits the United States literally in half.

The other faction is the Republic of Pacifica. The Atlantic Alliance is the eastern side of the US, and has formed an alliance with Europe. They've put their trust in cybernetics to lead them to the future, and have equipped their army with the latest technology to help them survive against the Republic of Pacifica. Speaking of them, they have gone a different route, instead genetically modifying their soldiers. The Atlantic Alliance finds this despicable, and thus, war.

In 2161, the "president" catches wind of unauthorized military movement in Pacifica, and attacks where the water of San Francisco Bay used to be (A dry basin now), and that sets off the war.

The environments will be destructible, as with Red Faction and Black, but we'll see just how destructible they are. So far I've been disappointed with what game makers consider "total destruction" of environments. Yeah, right. Something I do find interesting though, is that you have the ability to literally restructure the earth to your advantage. Someone shooting at you? Pull up a wall of land in front of you to protect yourself. If done correctly, this could be very impressive. Overall, however, I don't have high hopes for this game. Looks like somebody thought Crackdown was a good idea, and decided to.. totally remake it?

The concept looks interesting, but as it looks now I don't really having feeling of "OMGZ EYE MUST PLAY DIS GAYM!!1"

Other than the suit I don't really see much similarities with Crackdown though

I get images of Star Wars Battle Front to be honest, but yes, that screams Crackdown

Seems alright, I'm assuming it's third player and not first player though?

I might give it a go, but I'll have to wait and see what happens and what news and updates there are about it.

Fuck reviews. I don't trust Gamespot one single bit anymore, especially not after they gave Kane and Lynch 6.0 and Mass Effect 8.5. They completely underrated those games, Kane and Lynch is really much superior to a measly 6.0, and Mass Effect should be a definite 9.0+.

What you're describing sounds nothing like Crackdown, but since you said it reminded you of a Crackdown look a like I can only assume it's a third person sandbox game when your character has a super soldier. But it would be a lot better if you provided pictures or links.

But if it was a Crackdown copy I probably wouldn't like to play it. Crackdown wasn't even that fun.

What the hell? You wrote 4 paragraphs and summed the entire game up into like 2 sentences. Personally, I don't pay attention to whatever crazy political storyline they usually have in shooters, or the generic badass soldier main character. The main attraction here is terrain deformation.

Here's where I first saw it. (http://uk.gamespot.com/video/939322/6174536/fracture-stage-demo-1) You can skip passed the first 3 minutes, because we all know the plot.

I like it, it's got style.

After seeing the trailer; it looks nothing like Crackdown. Sure the movement looks sort of similar, but the graphics are totally different, you're in a set battlefield and not a freeroaming city, and you're not a super soldier. You're just a soldier with super-weapons.

Also it looks very mediocre.

Also it looks very mediocre.

My thoughts are the same.

My first impression was "Yeah, it's a shooter, but they're gonna make you do stupid things with the Earth gimmick to get to places", and I'm probably right.

It'd be nice if that was an option, but they didn't force you to do that. Such as:

I need to jump across this gap! Lucky me, there's a bridge right here.

...but I'd rather BUNNYHOP ACROSS A CATWALK OF GIANT STONE PILLARS!

Plus, since it's just a sophisticated weapon, I doubt very much that you have unlimited ammo.

Also, me want PC version. :frown:

Look a generic retarded game that no one will care about

I think it looks pretty cool, but I don't know how practical those terrain grenades and stuff will be. I mean, a 3 foot hill isn't going to save you all the time.

Why is everyone just writing this off as bad? In the 15 minute preview, I thought it looked cool.

I like the idea of terraforming your own terrain, but I bet you just can't keep using this cool effect without some sort of Energy Bar or Terra-Grenades to pick up...

Just by watching the trailer, I thought it looked nice. But I think they could be walking into a trap here. I bet this game could've been way better.
