I think sometime around when I disguised myself as an enemy medic and then back stabbed three people in the middle of their base I realized this could be the best game ever made.

Anyone else have it?

I don't have it yet but plan on getting it as soon as I can scrounge up enough money. Every trailer has been amazing so far and I can't wait to play it.

It looks fun. I've played TFC and have been waiting for this for quite some time.

I just couldn't be hassled pre-ordering it through Steam. Mind you, it will probably take another year for it to come out in shops here in Australia. :argh:

I've played Fortress Forever aswell, but I doubt it will match this one's brilliance.

i plan on getting it, 30 bucks isn't bad. I'm pretty obsessed with DOD: Source right now, but a few of my friends are gonna buy TF2 so ill probably get it also.

I think my local gaming cafe has it, ill check it out this weekend.

If you guys are gonna get this, just get the Orange Box for $20 more. Comes with TF2, HL2 Episodes 1 & 2, and Portal (plus some other stuff that I don't care about). Best fifty bucks I ever spent, to be honest.

Not only TFC was awesome, but 2 picked up on what we thought was kickass about the first one and just made it ten times better. It's funny, dynamic, fast and has awesome graphics. If you think it's "not that good", go to gamespot and check the trailer.

My friend has the beta, and I've played it a good amount at his house. It is extremely fun! I've been saved by my own turret (while playing as an engineer) from spies so many times.

I just bought a 360 and am about to get halo 3 though, so I'll most likely wait for it to release as a stand alone game for $20.

Counter Strike Source has many great features:

- Completely shit hit boxes
- Good graphics
- A physics engine that effects the game only slightly in most cases
-A change in game speed (walking and whatnot) that basically rapes the original design

Yeah.

luckily TF2 isn't Counter Strike.

I'm loving TF2. More and more. Spy and Sniper are definitely my favourite characters. As a Spy, I did what Rob did in my last game: Disguised myself, took a back route into their territory, came up behind them and knifed four people in the back. Not only that, but I managed to cloak myself in the nick of time and get away again. =D

I did it again after that, but I got killed after 3 more backstabs. Even if you die, it's ridiculously fun - especially when you kill a particular person more than once in a row. It humlitiates them: "Matterialize is DOMINATING Kirkpatrick105!!!". Does the same thing for "revenge" kills, if you kill someone who's dominating you.

Really fucking fun, and no bugs to speak of (at least for me). :dance: I'm so glad I bought this game.

Really fucking fun, and no bugs to speak of (at least for me). :dance: I'm so glad I bought this game.

I've actually had a few, mainly graphical bugs, but nothing unbearable. I also noticed some memory leakage (or lag w/e) when i got on sometimes.

I like 2Fort, because it's just so easy to slip into their base and go around knifing people in the back. :D

Spy, Sniper and Demoman are my favourites, but they're all fun to play. The Pyro is great in Granary, and every level has a lot of places that are great for Snipers (they give a fantastic view of areas where people congregate).

I'm gonna go play it now.

Yeah, I still can't get into it, I think 2Fort is the only CTF map i have seen.

Control point levels are fun, the Gravelpit is cool.

I'm digging it, definitely one of the most fun fps's I have played. I really like some of the concepts, like the spy. So far it is king of shallow though. Hopefully it will get better when it is fully released.

I'll get it when it comes out methinks. It looks amazing, and all these reviews are really promising problem is I live in Spain and not many Spanish people use the internet let alone play games online so I may have to play in French or British servers which makes my ping/latency like 100 :(

Team fortress 2 is completely out now. The reason it is still as a 'pre-purchase' is because Half Life: Ep 2 and Portal haven't been released yet. I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Because you're always moving fast, though, it's difficult to aim the Scout's gun sometimes. Most of my Scout kills are sheer luck at this point; I'll have to adjust my mouse sensitivity or something.

No, it's supposed to be that fast. The team I was playing with was mostly ex-quake players, so they're used to ridiculously fast action. We just zerg rushed every point bunny'ing and shotgunning our way through. Nothing survives 2 or 3 scouts at close range. I'm not even sure how they're going to balance that.

Try and catch some Quake 3 competitive videos. Controlling a Scout is cake. Quake had moments where I seriously felt ill from the screen changing too rapidly.

I hardly ever use the shotty as scout. I just shoot my pistol at the enemy from afar, while running in circles and hopping like a moron. It's a slow way to kill, but I'm harder to hit and usually outlast them.

I take back saying this game was shallow, now that I have played on different maps where having a certain class can be more useful. I have been playing since 12 and its 5am now love this game.

And scout + shotty for me, only have to watch out for pyros really.

I owned today =D I topped the team for the first time, and we were defending, not attacking.

Also, CTF is growing on me. It's the only game I'll play scout in, easy as pie to get captures with them. I prefer the shotgun, but yeah, if your far away it does shit all.

I'm enjoying the Soldier more and more. Before I started using him, I always got pissed because people kept killing me with these ridiculous point-blank rocket blasts, and I really thought it was total bullshit. And it is. But then I started to play as the Soldier, and I realized why: because it's so damn easy to get kills with. Soldier is by far, in my opinion, the most destructive unit in the game. No, not the Heavy. Heavies are sitting ducks for Snipers.

it is really easy to get camped on as a heavy with lots of snipers in the game. One thing I would like to see fixed is, a game balance. Like only a certain amount of people can go a certain postion. I personally hate it when I'm a medic and there is more than one other medic playing. They steal all my points >.<

Same with snipers on the other team. Sure it's a good defence, but if everyone is a sniper it's damed hard to get past sometimes.

And spies. Today I was playing a team of literally, about 8 spies and a heavy, medic and pyro. Fucking frustrating >.<

The textures were really glitchy while I was playing, hopefully that'll fix itself.

I'm starting to see why people like being engineer so much. It doesn't really require fast reflexes, more strategy.

The engineer is fun, but my turret never survives long enough to get more than two or three kills. Once the other team realizes it's there, they'll send a spy or someone with explosives to kill it. Or even a sniper, or a heavy. Yeah, I can repair it, but I run out of metal faster than my opponents run out of ammo.

Still, those turrets are fuckin' awesome when they're set up in a good position.

I think its got potential, but with the limit of only 6 maps the online FPS games are currently being overshadowed by CoD4, thats on Xbox Live anyway. If it wasn't for The Orange Box I probably wouldn't have played it.

Thinking about it, I might give TF2 another shot, it is pretty fun, and has some good humour in it, just kind of frustrating when you're first learning how to play it. I favor the Sniper (as I've always use that weapon given the choice). What does everyone else play as?

If you do have it, tell me so we can play, an Explosm clan/group would be cool, too. My favorite class is the engineer, hes like a medic/soldier/sniper/scout/engineer/metal cabinet/transporter all in one :hmm:

It's a great game, but I just wish there were more and more classes. This game rocks so much.

TF2 fucking rules, and maybe I'd join if my xbox was unbroken.

But it's an awesome game, probably the fastest paced FPS I've ever played. I'm pretty well-rounded with all of the characters, though I particularly like the mechanic and the Heavy. Over all though there are a lot of people who are better than me, but I can be pretty good if I try at it.

It's fucking awesome. There's a medic achievements pack coming to the pc version. That's cool because of the achievements but there are already an ok number of good medics and the achievements will just cause an overflow of bad medic achievement hunters.

TF2 really is great in how many ways you can play every map. And there are dozens of user made maps that can keep you busy if you somehow get bored with the originals.

Also, anyone know if anymore of the "Meet the Team" videos are going to be made/released? Fucking love those.

The one thing I hate about 2fort is that if it's instant spawn then there are always loads of snipers. I prefer at least a 10 second waiting limit. It sometimes just becomes a huge stalemate.

But other than that the game is solid and I love playing it, it's just really balanced and was worth the wait.

2Fort's actually my favourite map. I wish they had released more original CTF maps, because I prefer only having one vital point to defend instead of two or three control points. It's less complicated that way.

As for the videos, I was really hoping they'd release one for every class. They did the first four, and then, just... kinda stopped. Maybe because all the hype over the game's release is pretty much gone. They don't really have a reason to keep promoting the game any more than any other recent title.

I dunno, I play TF2 every once in a while, but it's not my cup of tea. That might have something to do with the fact that I suck at it, but I just couldn't get too into it. That's not to put the game down or anything, it's awesome and I at least enjoyed dying horribly, it was just frustrating. I don't know if it had anything to do with me playing with total strangers or not, but I'd certainly be willing to play with some Explosm guys. I did fairly decent as the sniper, at least.

Don't have it but I'm going to guess no, because the PC version doesn't and Valve usually gives the extra perks to us Steamers.

I can say for fact it does not. TF2 on 360 (and PC for that matter) is online Player V Player only

I seriously doubt there will be an update to include bots for either 360 or PC, however a Fan-made Mod for the PC version is far more likely, but they are always far from perfect (if one is ever made at all)

Not totally, they can still build dispensers, teleporters and sentry guns on the point where they're team is having hard time pushing the cart forward, so the enemy won't totally block them off from the cart.

I don't think lag would be as big of a problem as you think, as long as you have decent internet. I play a CS:S server that's based in Texas, but at the time of night that I play it, it's almost all Aus and UK players, and it's not too terribly laggy. They have a bit higher ping, but it's not like lag that makes the game unplayable.

Also, if me and Matt go through with this too, there better be an engineer spot open for me and Spastic Colon at all times. :argh:

Here's where Australians are going to have problems. I occasionally play on a few different US servers, and my ping is always 350+, which is almost unplayable. Compare that to pings below 20 on Australian servers and Australians don't have a lot of motivation to play on an American one. Still the UK probably has better internet than us and is closer to America, so a server might still be worth it for them.

Not particularly. It probably takes less than 10 minutes to figure out a decent strategy with each class, maybe a bit longer for Medic, Engineer and Spy. Spy is probably the hardest class to play, with I would say Pyro being the easiest. As a Spy you need to pick your poison. Figure out what you're going to disguise yourself as, scope out the other team a bit, figure out who is the class that you want to be, and where they are. If they're sitting in the base and you plan to go into the base, disguising yourself as them is probably not the best idea. Personally, when I see someone with my name go by, I get suspicious.

I was lucky enough to play it at a lan first, that way my friends could help me out. But like Rob said, even if you don't know what you are doing, it's still kickass. It might be a good idea to learn the maps, are they the same on the 360?

My computer is pretty shit, all you really need is a semi-decent video card and then just turn everything to the lowest spec possible. It's not pretty but at least you can play.

Well, Dustbowl, Granary, Hydro, 2fort, Gravel Pit... hrm I may have forgotten something. They all are only one default gametype (unique for each map of course).

In general the 360 version has 16 max player, no new content yet, lag issues, etc. If you can get it for PC, get it.

We would have capped too if you didn't freeze! As far as system requirements go it's a Source game, and to my knowledge they try to make Source games accessible to all. I know I don't have the best computer and I can run everything on high with 4x AA. My graphics card is only a x1650 pro (512 MB).

though I know someone who runs this game with a single core 2.2 GHZ processor and some other junk 128 MB card, with the graphics dulled down he doesn't seem to have much of a problem.

I find the easiest class to be the Soldier, followed by the Pyro. Demoman is surprisingly tough to learn because they suck in close combat with no "short-range" (ie: pistol, shotgun) weapon, besides the broken bottle.

Spy is by far the hardest, and it's getting harder because people are getting paranoid. You seriously can't go anywhere without getting shot, even by your own team.

But Sniping just seems to be nice and easy in certain maps. A lot of custom maps I've played tend to have lots of great areas for it.

But damn, you guys have been playing for ages. I only just got back into it.

Giving this an almighty bump (the rules said it was ok) to call attention to the fact that the new map, cp_badlands, is out. It's quite fun, it's like a more vertical version of the other CPs, giving scouts a bit of an advantage. There were about 4 in all the rounds I've played of it so far. Thoughts anyone?

Yeah scouts do have advantage but I think that the engineers have been given the most as there are so many good spots for them that have obviously been created for them.

Yeah, engis have been balanced pretty well. They can get a lot of kills with a sentry, but they can't singlehandedly hold down an area like they can on some maps.

I hate kamikaze spies, there were like 3 spies from each team once in 2fort, who had all given up on braking the enemies defenses because they sucked at it and charged at anybody who dared to walk on the bridge.

I'm currently in the process of setting up a US based dedicated server for TF2. Most of it is already done, I've just got a few issues to iron out (effing AMD bug). My question is, how many people are going to want to play?

There'll be at least one 24 slot server, but I'll probably have room for another 1 or 2, depending on demand.

Just want to try to hit the sweet spot.

Medic is an easy ass class, for me at least. All you have to do is dodge fire and heal, run away if your guy dies. It was harder when you had to actually hold left click to heal, but still wasn't very hard.

Hey, to you taht play it on Xbox360, does it sometimes have crazy lag fits? Like the map is messing up or something? Say, I'm the sniper and when you zoom in, you know how it does that flicker thing, well sometimes it starts going crazy and keeps doing it. And that's just one of the problems.

I've finally got a TF2 dedicated server up for you guys. Word of advice, if you want to try one on your own, go Intel.

Simply connect to "geeksftw.com" - add it to your favorites even.

I'll still need to tweak the server settings (ie: caps, rounds, time etc) but everything should work at it's current default.

I'll be setting up a forum, as well as game stats using PsychoStats. I'll let you know when I get around to that though.

For now, just let me know how well it works. It's a US based server, but I was getting a ping of ~200 which is pretty decent, so us AU folk shouldn't feel it too much.

New update!

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Added "Custom" tab to the server browser
Servers can now specify metatags describing the custom rules they've adopted
Players can use tag filtering to find servers running the custom rules they want to play
Added options for servers who want to become custom games: Disable critical hits (tf_weapon_criticals), eliminate respawn times (mp_disable_respawn_times), and raise maxplayers above 24


Initial release of Tournament mode (mp_tournament)
UI for handling team naming, ready mode, and win results
Disables team player limits, autobalancing, and intermission


Class balancing

Added "Toggle Disguise Team" binding in Options->Keyboard to toggle the disguise team for the Spy's PDA
Changed PDA menus to accept keys bound to "slot1", "slot2", etc., and "slot10" cancels
Fixed Spectator targetID not using team colors
Changed team autobalance code to not balance the teams when the active round timer shows less than 60 seconds
Fixed "-maxplayers" on the command line not correctly setting the maxplayers value for the server
Fixed Badlands never having Sudden Death triggered
Fixed Engineer being able to detonate buildings that are being sapped
Changed Engineer buildings to detonate when a player disconnects instead of blinking out
Fixed potential client crash for players being healed by a Medic or dispenser
Made several improvements to server-side stat reporting (not related to individual player stats)

Demo and soldier got extremely nerfed. :aaa:

It's funny because just an hour or so before the update hit, I was telling someone that it's ridiculously easy to hide behind something as demo and launch stickies from a totally safe spot. This should cut back on that.

Sad for the no more spamming shit... hurray for soldiers and demomen nerfs, but it is still not enough: the ammunition is not a problem for those classes... the only difference now is that the soldier can only kill 16 people instead of 36 without getting ammunitions... and again, they can collect any fallen weapon for ammo.

Still are, you mean. It's bullshit that as a Pyro I can be killed by one fucking sticky bomb that a demoman drops, when it takes me literally 30 seconds of straight flamethrowing to kill them. I don't mind soldiers so much because the rockets aren't hard to dodge, but I definitely think that if they shoot you point blank with a fucking rocket they should at least take a LITTLE splash damage. As it stands now I don't think they take any splash unless it hits a wall.

That's what I meant by wall, is the general solid ground area. It's bullshit that the explosion doesn't damage them when it's off another player, though.

What about hitting your own team? That surely shouldn't hurt you. Also it should defiantly hurt you less than them, I thought it did hurt you a bit. Anyway they will probably be hitting you with a spade because there out of ammo, it runs out so fast now. Pyros should do more damage when close, because its just not funny running round a heavy until your out of ammo.

Uh, doesn't it? Soldiers have hit me point-blank with a rocket and blown themselves up. I've done it to people as well.

Spawns probably move with the cart. Think how frustrating it would be for a Soldier or Heavy to run all the way to the far end of a level that huge. The battle could significantly shift two or three times before you even get to the action.

I think its red defending, and blue attacking. Those points look like checkpoints so I guess blue has a time limit to get forward to the next point. I would assume as you work forward the spawn points are the last checkpoint you got to, and the reds would move back a cp each time.

EDIT: Anyone played and "es_*" maps? there amazing, like gold rush but unofficial versions. Its good as its hardly ever a stale mate due to the constantly moving objective.

1. Defrag the game cache. Probably not a solution at all, but never hurts.

2. I'd give this (http://www.teamfortress2fort.com/forums/t/CannotConnecttoANYTF2Server-3586.aspx) and this (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1232320) a read. Wouldn't make any sense to me if it was working and then just shit out, but I've seen dumber things...

3. Clean sweep, and reinstall it. Unfortunately sometimes thats the only way to fix some problems with steam.


I'd go through it in that order anyway. After playing CS:S for a couple years, you just kinda get use to the routine. Try something, look into a weird reason, reinstall.

Reinstalling fixes the problem more times than not

I installed that game today and went on the Explosm server for maybe 5 minutes before I left for 10 minutes to fix something. When I tried lauching TF2 again, I got this:

Failed to launch D3D device !

I'm currently trying to fix this, but I would also like to know if anyone got that problem before and how they solved it. I know I changed the resolution in the options the first time I played, but that's pretty much all I played with.

Edit: It seems all fixed. I updated the drivers and rebooted my computer.

I played a few hours ago. Dam it's a fun map to play. Especially as the spy. Those back stabs are just too easy sometimes. Anyone got the new medic achievements? It also seems that they are releasing them for all the classes.

Thus far, the new medic weapons can be substituted in place of the old ones if you so choose. Each new weapon matches one of the old ones in what it is, but differs in it's effect.

The BluttSauger (blood sucker in german):
It is a different needle gun which gives you 3 health per needle hit but no longer can crit.
You can get it after unlocking one third of the 39 new achievements.

The Critzcreig:
The new medigun, but instead of making your patient invulnerable, it gives them the equivalant time of non-stop crit shots.
Useable after two thirds of unlocked achievements.


The Ubersaw:
The replacement for the bonesaw, because if you manage to get this after unlocking all the achievements, there's no question you'll use this instead. If you manage to land four succesful hits with this thing, you can fully charge your uber from a completely empty bar. (as in, you gain one fourth your uber meter per hit).

Good luck on some of these achievements, you'll need it.

Valvue also told peoples to expect the next installments for the other classes real quick if all goes well for this medic patch.

I noticed the excess of medics before I saw the update and it confused the hell out of me. I saw one team that had more medics than non-medics. They were literally all ubered except for one medic running around by himself.

Medics were underplayed before but I'm not sure if this is better.

I disagree. With this giant influx of medics, it changes games a lot now. Aside from nobody dying, it allows you to roam a little free-er into enemy territory as you have at least two medics on your ass now. People are more prone to attack now as well.
Had one game where we rushed with a fully uber'd team and desecrated the opponents.

And in the future more people might have incentive to play medic now.

I was one of them, though. Me and Lag unlocked the Bluttsauger and KritzKrieg over the past two days. A few of the achievements are pretty tough. I have no idea how to Ubercharge two people at the same time, and it's gonna be a long while before I accumulate a million heal points, although I saw seven or eight people get that Chief of Staff achievement in these past two days. All your pre-patch heal points still count towards it.

Goldrush is pretty fun, but the amount of medics is ridiculous. Both teams on the server I played on had 5. I did play medic for a while (when it had briefly died down to 2 medics), but it was pointless, the number of medics shot up again, and they were all healing 2 or three non medics.

The explosion at the end of goldrush was awesome, though.

I didn't know there was a permanent dispenser on the cart. That's pretty handy.

The two weapons I've unlocked for the medic are actually useful. Using these makes me look forward to the other classes' unlockables even more.

Some of the achievements really leave you a good feeling after you complete them. Like the burn 5 people with one über.

Because we ended up killing the whole team at once.
