We're only about two days in and there are a few trends pissing me right the hell off. Some of it's just the same problems the media forum had before the split. Lets get down to it and start deciding what sort of forum VGF should be.

Rule idea: Don't post in a game thread just to say you don't have the game, you're planning to get it soon, or you prefer a different game.

Some people are doing that, and it adds nothing to the thread. There's really no way to respond to "I don't have this game but it looks really neat". You might as well post it on LiveJournal. I think questions are okay, ie "I don't have this game yet. Can you do _____ in it?"

Would putting up separate stickies for people to post their XBL, PSN, etc. accounts be a bad idea?

I don't think so. If I remember correctly we used to have one.

That's actually a great idea. This is a rules thread, but let's also discuss forming Explosm groups/clans. Or just sharing online accounts.

I guess the best way would be for someone from each system/game to whip up a thread to organize that group. If there's enough support I'll sticky it.

I think that would be a good idea too.

Ill put up a thread for posting XBL accounts if its ok then.

Go for it.

Think this should be a subforum of VGF? There are a LOT of games and systems out there.

Shadowpriest

We could have a subforum for people that are stuck in certain games, and you can sort through the different consoles.

And maybe make our own online clans with people from the forum and put the threads there too.

Rob

Actually the subforum is a bad idea, the more I think about it. It would just render the main forum useless for whatever games had clans.

Shadowpriest

I think it might still be a good idea for people stuck in games though.

Rob

Why not use that game's thread?

If it's an older game that doesn't have a thread going on, I guess a subforum would be handy. I'm just worried about it being ignored and not used enough to be a good resource.

I think a subforum would be iffy, I mean, look at the review forum. I had two reviews in there with only a handfull of replies, and, then, we merged it into one and Assassin's Creed's replies jumped to 30. Then again, it might or might not be ignored.

I'd start a PSN ID thread, but there aren't many people here who own a Playstation 3, so should I even bother?

EDIT: Fuck it, why not?

Does anyone think a thread dedicated to majorish games news (this would be a lot easier if we had editable thread titles) would be a good idea?

I think just making a new thread and having it sticky'd would be more practical.

Maybe incorperate a section for XboxLive Gamertags / PSN IDs / Wii Friend codes into the user profiles?

This is a mighty fine idea. Like those msn icons and shit.

Rob

That's way too complicated and requires everyone's profile to have it.

If someone's stuck in a game, the internet's overflowing with places that'll help. I don't think I'd go to Explosm first for something like that.

It should be a rule to not post in that Smashbros thread that's older than the actual forum itself. It's fucking stupid.

Rob
01-25-2008, 12:27 PM
I think the Smash Bros thread is great. I'd rather there be one thread for resources on the game than fifty.

Yeah.. And while we're at it, lets just phase out comics, and hell the entire forum itself. There are THOUSANDS of those on the internet. :ahe: You seem to not get the point of it, of course you could go to gamefaqs.com and look up some pre-processed list that says "Step 1: Find the ruby. Step 2: Find the statue. Step 3: Insert ruby into statue." OR, you could come to explosm and get dynamic help with what you're having a problem with, from people you know at least a little bit through the internet.

If it's not a good idea to have a Subforum directly for "Video Game Help" or something; just post your trouble in the games thread (if there is one). If not, make your own titled the game, then just have the first post "I just got it, blah blah blah, I can't find the ice arrows, blah blah blah, Majora's Mask, etc."

I entirely agree. If I need help on something, first thing I do is search the internet for a solution before I make stupid threads.

In alot of forums where I've seen requests for help the threads seem to consist of:
Post 1: "Help! I'm stuck at **** on ****"
Post 2: "I've done it now!"
*Thread Closed*

or requests for help on games that you really can't give any help, such as Guitar Hero or Burnout.

Would an Xfire thread be used?

I'll make it, and enough people use it, Rob can Sticky it.

Werty

Well, we do have a Steam thread, so I don't see why not. I'd double check with Rob, though.

What about a "Help I'm Stuck/Spoiler" Subforum?

It would be to discuss game endings and/or parts in games that people are stuck on. That way it would keep spoiler discussion out of a main thread for a game and therefore not wreck anyone who may have read a post that forgot spoiler tags or happened to accidentally read one.

CharlieH

Thats not such a bad idea in theory. I wonder how much it would be used though.

Would putting up separate stickies for people to post their XBL, PSN, etc. accounts be a bad idea?

Or, if one of the Admins could, add a section to our Profile Pages where we can add xbox live gamertags, wii fried codes etc. That wouldn't be too much of a hassle for someone would it?

USER WAS PUT IN TIMEOUT FOR THIS POST. (http://forums.explosm.net/bankamp/)

Reading the thread is apparently a hassle for you.
