Yeah, I know I am one of the few people here who listen to jam bands, but I got some questions. I mostly listen to older bands (60s and 70s), but today I got some bands from this decade (I already listen to moe. and bisco) and I was wondering what people thought of them, or if anyone wanted to recommend other jam bands.

New Monsoon (concert just finished downloading) - Currently listening to them and they are by far some of the best music I have ever heard. From the couple live songs I have heard, they are up there with the Dead in my mind.

Tea Leaf Green (downloading)

Railroad Earth (downloading)

P Groove (stuck at 0%)

(I don't really like Phish or String Cheese, so please don't tell me to try them out)

I'd suggest checking out Umphrey's Magee or Govt Mule.

Does O.A.R. count as a jam band? I like them a lot, mock me if you must.

Yes. Yes they do.

The Ultimate and what I consider to be the first Jam band is The Greatful Dead. They just had so much stuff going on and so many cool things in their music. They were all very talented writers and players. Bummer Jerry died.

DMB- If you don't know this by now, why did you make this thread?

Slightly Stoopid-Very jammy stuff. Some of their stuff is like a cross between Bob Marley and Led Zep.

The Allmans- Again...no real need to point out these cats, but someone should.

Disco Biscuits- from READING, PA! awesome band that's like disco with talent. Good stuff.

and I'm going to add this local band I know.

Mogel's Brew (http://www.myspace.com/mogelsbrew)- Ken Mogel apparently is a really good up and coming guitarist. After his high school graduation he left for Nashville, where according to him, he met Sting, Mark Knopfler and some other people. Upon hearing his talents, Knopfler told him to go home and start a band. That's what he did. He can play, no doubt about it...but the rest of the band....is not as good.

Also, all of the bands are acquired tastes and also, the fans of these bands are generally douche bags. It's like there's a contest between fans to see who smoked the most pot and who saw the band when. :science:

Check out Sound Tribe Sector 9 (or STS9)! Really great band, known for their shows on new years eve.

For one I guess its my fault for not listing the bands from the 60s and 70s I listen to, but I thought it was fair to assume that I listen to the Dead. They make up about 1 third of all my music, plus offshoots like JGB, RatDog, and Jerry Garcia/David Grisman. And on top of that, the Dead are more than just a jam band, they were one of the first bands (if not the first) to successfully blend so many different types of music together, blues, bluegrass, folk, rock, among others. But I did mention the Disco Biscuits in my opening speil, hence bisco.

All of those bands I've either heard and like or heard and don't like, I was kinda of going for some stuff that isn't want comes to the top of your head at first.

By the way Fabz, I am going to a Dark Star Orchestra concert in March, and they are a Dead cover band.:facts:

I was merely stating obvious choices for the topic of the thread and the person that likes O.A.R and wants to hear more of the same time of music.

Ya know, this forum isn't all about you.

And you have also proved my point. Much like the indie elistest the Jam Band heads are even worse. They rattle off every single band they have seen and when they've seen them. It's like a chronological ticket stub on how much of a douche you are and have become. (not you personally blltmssgy, but you, as in general jam band fans.) And you said to recommend something. I did.

I've also seen Splintered Sunlight a myriad of times. They are also a GD band. All be it a shitty one...but the show is only like 5 bucks.

You should check out Ryan Montbleau Band. I'm just starting to listen to them, you might not dig them if you aren't into String Cheese or Keller Williams, but if you want to give them a shot, here's the myspace link. Fabz, I added that last bit just because you mentioned that part about jam band people talking about concerts all the time.
