Are there any really old games, lets say, from all consoles before Dreamcast (and including it if you actually bought one), that you still get the urge to play or you still do play? And what it is that makes it special for you?
For me I still get the urge to play Resident Evil 2 even though I don't own it and I still play Columns on Sega Megadrive (Genesis) sometimes, it's special because it was the first game I ever played and it's still quite addictive when you start playing it.

I own an amiga (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/f/f2/300px-Leander_Amiga500.jpg) (like an extremely basic PC which ran games off floppy disc) and I still play games on that like Road Rage (http://www.classicgaming.com.br/images/segacd/Road_Rash_Foto5.jpg), Lemmings (http://members.tcq.net/video61/images/lynx/gamepics/lemmings.jpg) and Simon The Sorcerer (http://armchairarcade.com/neo/system/files/images/rondor_0.PNG).

Jet Set Radio / Jet Grind Radio, is my all time favourite game. I still listen to the soundtrack on my Mp3. Looking back at it I can't see what I found was so good about it, but when I play it I still get addicted!

Resident Evil 1 and 2 - PSX

Pacman

Super Mario Bros 1 and 3.

All great classic games.

Edit: Road Rash was AWESOME! I had a PC game of it once. I loved it so much.

Seriously, that'd make the best Xbox Live Arcade game ever. Period.

I still play most of my Genesis/Megadrive collection on my GP2X, such classics as Streets of Rage, The Punisher and Road Rash. I also play Pac-man atleast once a week.

One old school game that will never ever lose it's awesome is Mike Tyson's Punch Out. That game can still keep me entertained for hours even today. Games like Super Mario World for the SNES and Zelda, Ocarina of Time for the N64 are also other games that never seem to lose my interest.

Even though I haven't played it in a while I really love Megaman Legends. It is just an awesome game, and is probably the first game I've played start to finish. It's just an awesome game and no matter how many times I play it I never get tired of it.

Yes, I had a Dreamcast - Baku Baku Animal was the finest puzzle ever.

Mario 3 is the tcket and looked amazing for a NES game. The best NES game of all time was definitely Metal Gear.

Mario Kart for the SNES was certainly one of the best games of all time, but certainly not as good as the N64's Goldeneye.

Mariokart on the SNES was my alltime favourite. And this FIFA NHL game I had on the Sega, was crazy.

Also, when I was about 9, I used to play my cousins Sega and he had Street Fighter II. My dad didn't like the violence, he hid it on the top shelf but I climbed up and scurried off with it like a possessed demon.

I still have my old Playstaion and Sega Genesis. I play Tony Hawk on the Playstation. I've beaten that game countless times, and it never gets old. On my Sega Genesis, I play some crappy racing game. It's very easy, and fun to just beat the shit out of the NPC's.

I'm pretty I could beat you at the original super smash bros.
My friends all needed full handicap and a 3 v 1 match to even have a chance at beating me and even then it was iffy.
And everyone I know that used to play that game used Fox, fuck him. I used Pikachu.

Also Bomberman for the Snes
Goldeneye and World is Not Enough for 64 were awesome too.

I always loved Megaman X on the SNES. It took me years to actually beat the game, as I did continually lose the passwords for the last levels. But when I finally did beat it, it became a bit boring. It's fun to go back to now, though.

Sonic the Hedgehog, first few on Mastersystem.

I didn't even know about that! Just the possibility of GoldenEye online would have been enough to convince me to get a 360. I'm pretty sure I play my N64 more than I go my GameCube and my PS2. But my all-time favorite guilty pleasure is 3D Baseball 1995 for the Sega Saturn. By determination alone I can take the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series. Doom on PC, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, FIFA 98, TIF (This is Football)
Adidas Power Soccer, Godzilla on Gameboy, Pokemon Red & Blue (not all that gold, fuschia, silver BS), Tetris, the original Sims, Yoshi's Island on SNES and Donkey Kong 3. OH, and this game called Radical Rex on SNES. That game was unbelievable.

I had the most fun playing Gameboy (the original fat one). I used to play Tetris and Pokemon against my friends for hours on end.

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R

Yeah I used to enjoy Mortal Kombat's too but the fatalities were so fiddly I used to get annoyed, most of the time I'd just plug in both controllers and just get to the "Finish Him/Her" screen quickly because the 2nd player isn't attacking. Then I'd try and do the fatalities, sometimes they worked.

Pokémon took up at least a week collectively of my childhood. I remember getting a gameboy on holiday and having a whale of a time. I'm not huge on the new generations, but i still have my Gameboy color and the GAMEBOY CAMERA + PRINTER! But once you completed it, there wasn't much else to do.

Sonic wins, hand down.

Sonic 3 was easily the best out of the lot, and now they've all gotten a bit shit since they started making them 3d.

But I still have my old megadrive [Genesis] set up and play it regularly.

Other favourites include:
Ristar
Streets of rage 1
Altered Beast
Golden Axe 1
Choas Engine
Cool Spot
And many, many others. Ever since gamestation made Megadrive games 99p each [about 50 cents], AND they were buy one get one free, I went mental and now own easily nearing 300 games for it.

Edit: Oh, and Duke Nukem on the PS1 of course. 'Balls of steel'

We still have an N64, a NES and a Mega Drive around, working perfectly!! The only thing is we have fuck all games for them.
Worms Armageddon does indeed kick ass, as does GoldenEye for the N64! I was quite partial to Lylat Wars too. I heard that anyone with a Wii can get the old games for the different Nintendo Consoles online and play them on the Wii - that true?

As for the Sonic games, I found the Mega Plus Collection for the PS2 which has every last one of the Sonic Games - and it was dirt cheap too!! Best buy ever, methinks!

Yes, endless to a limit of 49. :mmyes:

But it was a pretty good game. It was the most customizable game I'd ever played at the time. I also like Super Smash Bros. I was REALLY good at it too. I loved Super Mario 64, or as my family called it "The House One." I liked the old Pokemons. But one of my favorites was Donkey Kong 64. For someone my age, that game was creepy as shit, and I never wanted to stop playing. Mario Kart 64 was another great one. I was always Yoshi or Toad. I LOVED Yoshi's Island. Yoshi was always my favorite Mario character. Also Mario Party, Dr. Mario 64, and Star Fox 64.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned Worms World Party. I wasted so much time playing that game. I loved doing the missions. Unfortunately I lost it when I rebooted. I have to admit I probably play my NES more than my Wii. I still love Mario 3 to the core. I've also been playing Zelda's 1 and 2 and the original Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest?). In addition, I'm very partial to the first Final Fantasy. I had one of those cool Nintendo Power guides that showed you all the secrets. I love the Wii Virtual Console. I've been playing games like SMB 1-3, Zelda: OoT, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, and Punch-Out!! (damnit, wished it was the Tyson version though) over and over again and I never get tired of them. Hell, I keep playing SMB 1 as I have yet to beat the game after all these years.

Another classic game I always keep playing is Konami's Suikoden series. I own the first three and fifth Suikoden games (IV flat out sucks) and I just love how you can complete each game with a different set of characters of your choosing. Sure it may not be as complex or popular as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, but finding 108 characters to recruit in each game keeps me coming back for more.

Also, WWE No Mercy for N64 is another fun game to still play. I honestly believe its way much better than the whole Smackdown franchise of games as it's deep and highly customizable where as the SD games seem to pale in comparison. Don't forget this game came out when wrestling was still wildly popular.

I'm gonna go one further and say ISS 64 - can't beat the commentary on that. Aside from that I have nothing that hasn't already been said, Goldeneye, Mario Kart etc.

Let's see...

I still play Orcarina of Time. My record for beating it is like a day and a half, but that's cuz I do sidequests on it too (Skulltula hunting, Biggoron's Sword, Mask trading, etc) :)
Still play Tetris. I get addicted to that game.
Super Mario 3. Well basically any Mario game, especially 64 Mario.
Zelda: Link's Awakening for the ORIGINAL Game Boy
Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons for Game Boy Color
I miss Sonic for Sega. And I liked Metroid for GB but I could never get past Level 1 :( I sucked at it. Oh well.
Banjo-Kazooie, although I can never beat it :argh:
The ORIGINAL Mortal Kombat for Sega

Ahh... nostalgia. :hmm:

Thank goodness for the Wii, because now I can have (almost) all of my favorites without dusting off the old NES. Here's my list:

Super Mario Bros. 2
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Bubble Bobble (NES)
Tetris (not on the virtual console yet)

I also like some classics like Breakout on the old Video Pinball console.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e5/Vpinball.jpg

We had this when I was a kid and if I still had one, I'd have it hooked up to my 47" LCD HD in no time! Funny how something so simple can still be so much fun.

Oh my god, Red Faction - now there's a game that should have been as popular as Half-Life and stuff. I loved that game.

Red Faction had the rail gun that could shoot through walls right? I loved that game sooo much. Only game that took more of my time as a kid had to have been Time Splitters 1. Nobody realizes how damn awesome that game was. Who wouldn't enjoy killing people as a monkey with tommy guns?

Okay, Glacius was pretty awesome. But I couldn't use him for shit!
Killer Intinct is still one of my favourites. I'll never forget when the Apollo Arcade in Belfast got it and I could [I]feel[I] the music just rumbling away in there. Oh yeah.
I loved the way specials could be buffered during the combos, Sabrewulf was great for that, he'd roll forward chomping and goring and I'd be loading the next wallop to Thunder, et al. Awesome!
Never got the holy grail though, Orchids 45 hit ultra, nearly did but I missed Cinder on the way down with the Juggles, damnation.
Rare owned actually, KI, Goldeneye, Banjo and Conker were, and still are, amazing and fine examples of how to get it right consistently.
So there you go, thats my two bits!

I have bought every Tony Hawk game since THPS (except Project 8). I used to be able to play them for hours. I was really impressed with THPG because it finally shied away from the gay corny story lines of THAW and THUG2. THUG was tolerable.

Of course, Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Diddy Kong Racing were the shit. And did nobody ever play Twisted Metal on the PlayStation?! And Ape Escape?!

Star Control 2 has not been mentioned yet (PC/ 3DO). In terms of universe, story-telling, atmosphere, characters and humour this has yet to be topped by any modern game. It was set in a universe populated by aliens that could be coming from cheesy 60's science fictions. There was always something to discover and the story was as witty as it was immersive.

The campaign was dynamic and while you gathered resources, different races fought wars. It really felt more like playing an odd adventure than anything.

You had to converse (and read) a lot, which was the best part. Also there was a asteroids-like fighting mechanic as well as a part where you would collect minerals from foreign planets. All in all the game mechanics were decent. At least they did not get in the way.

A game called Albion by Buebyte. The story's interesting (cat anthros always make it so), graphics are pretty neat, sounds are fair... Gameplay - everything's good except the fact that dueling is turn based. It's not a problem for me - but as the game progresses, it gets immensely hard at one point... Ok, first of all, you have to drop some respect for Metal Gear Solid. Not quite the 8 bit original ones that make you look like a roach running about on a big green puddle of puke, but the one for PS1 that starts out with you being pooped out of a submarine to some epic music and floating up to start off killing two guys in under a minute. That game is one of the only reasons i still have my PS2, and also the first game I ever bought over eBay.

Secondly, who remembers Earthworm Jim? That game was the shit, but I haven't seen it ported or anything since back in the day. What's not to llike about being an earthworm in a space suit shooting baddieswith laser cannons? Fucking LASER cannons!

Galaga is still my favorite classic game of all time. I plan on getting an Arcade Cabinet one day. Maybe a Ms.Pacman/Galaga combo.

I am more of the 8-Bit fan. Pitfall, Missile Command, Galaga, Pacman, Pole Position, Dig-Dug, Mario games for the NES, Kirby, and so much more.

An old childhood favorite would have to be The Adventures of Pacman for the SNES. I think it only had like three missions, and you didn't really have much control over Pacman at all. But could do funny things with a slingshot to get Pacman in trouble. Shoot dogs and beehives and watch him run in fear. Then Pacman will get all Emo until get eats a power pellet.

I've always been a fan of the oldschool point and click games!
Do you guys remember those?
Like all the Lucas Arts classics, Monkey Island Series, Maniac Mansion!
Good old DOS games!

My favorite was Day of The Tentacle! Probably one of the greatest games ever.

Oh and the good old FPS, DOOM and Duke Nukem. Brilliant!

I always find myself wanting to play Mystic Quest on SNES. I haven't played it in years, and I don't know if it'll be as great as I remember, but it was the first game I can safely say I was addicted to. I played through it time and time again never getting bored.
Mystic Quest is a Final Fantasy game. It is extremely basic and meant for kids, but I still want it.

I also want to play Final Fantasy 8, although i actually have that one. It was the first Final Fantasy title I played (except Mystic Quest, but that's hardly Final Fantasy) and has been my favorite ever since.

Some of the few games that always drag me back in are: Goldeneye 64, Super Marior 64, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 6, Zelda: OoT & MM, Warcraft 1-2. Starcraft, Diablo 1, Poke'mon Red and Silver, King's Quest 6, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong 64, and Star Fox 64. I played all those games when I was growing up, so they always keep busy when I'm playing them again.

I really enjoyed Final Fantsy 12. The game was totally different from all the others and it really worked well. A bit too easy though, as much as I hate walking around levelling up this game couldve used a bit of that. In the previous games you find all the cool stuff by exploring every area so that you can get into more fights and level up. Also that bunny chick really caused many trees in my pants. She kind of reminded me of the Playboy chicks.

I dug out my old Sega Genesis the other day and played this random game I used to love. Busby 2 or something like that, it's really hard to beat but I've always loved that game for some odd reason. There is an old Power Ranger game that still kicks ass too.

Close! It was Bubsy 2. I preferred the first one but it was hard as hell!! Get touched once and you die. The controls were a bit off yet I still play it. Funny thing is I get irritated with it and dont get very far ( and I am playing the ROM on PC and can save whenever I please) yet when I used to play it on my genesis I actually finished the damn thing! I used to have a lot of patience.

Chuu-Chuu Rocket for Dreamcast. Best game ever? It just might be. I wish I still had my Dreamcast. :(

EDIT: Vectorman and Cool Spot for the Genesis. BEST GAMES EVER?

Cool Spot FTW. Back then, product promotion games could still be good.

The original Mario Kart is still fun.

Who else still plays Zelda: Link to the Past? I know that game inside and out.

I have a working 3DO, on which I still play VirtuaFighter sometimes.

And Tetris with the original arcade controls. I'm pretty good at it, I even rolled the score once.

For the SNES I would have to go with Super Mario All-Stars and all the Donkey Kong Country Games. I also found the very first game I ever played (and beat) for the SNES, it's called Joe & Mac and was originally for MS-DOS and brought back a lot of memories when i found it. I also have a working Virtual Boy and still play Mario Clash on it. I can't forget the Gameboy Camera and Printer either both still work quite well and still see a good deal of use.

If early computer games also count then I'd have to add the Doom series to the list as well as Red Alert: Aftermath and Tiberian Dawn.

I know, right.

Officially the franchise is "Nintendo Wars"; it's started as Famicom Wars, then onto Super Famicom Wars, Game Boy Wars, and then Advance Wars. It's also on the Gamecube and Wii as Battalion Wars, which is real-time rather than turn-based.

Also, I quietly anticipate Chrono Trigger DS.

seeing all the posts about Smash Bros., it seems to me like the next convention you guys attend someone should bring an N64 and throw down!

I was in a tournament for Smash Bros. last week up at college, I ended up getting 4th place using Link - I was the only Link entrant, I guess nobody thinks he's good. But there are always people who claim that they are incredible at Smash and they always beat their friends, then they come to the tournament and get destroyed, realizing that their friends are actually really bad players.

For the SNES, any time playing Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, or Donkey Kong Country is time well spent.
