The newest result of game writer/director Suda51, the genius behind amazing game known as Killer7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer7). I've had a hardon for this game ever since I heard about it and like a bad reaction to cialis my hardon has yet to subside.
No More Heroes is a good ol' fashion beat 'em up style game that follows Travis Touchdown, a punk/japanophile/pro-wrestling fan who aquires a beam katana from ebay and in an attempt to impress a hot girl with it manages to kill the #11 ranked assassin known as The Drifter. Killing the drifter ranks Travis as the new #11, and after some pressure from the hot chick (who turns out to be an agent with the Universal Assassination Association) he decides to fight his way to #1.
Things happen fast. Once you start the game you don't get a chance to catch you breath untill you win your next match. Combat is so slick and fun I'm not sure if cutting people in half will ever get old. Instead of making you weild your Wiimote in a sword like fashion which so far hasn't worked quite right yet (i.e. Red Steel) the motion controls are used for executing the finishing blows and the wrestling throws. So you button mash and give a flick of the wrist and are rewarded with a fountain of crimson goodness. Pointing the Wiimote high or low lets you mix things up which comes into play greatly during boss fights where timing and finding an opening become key. It's so seamless and smooth that it caused my roomate to remark that all video game swordplay should be this way.
Fighting mechanics out of the way this game is a delight on the eyes and ears. From the comic book look of the graphics to the hilarious dialouge and even the little quirky touches such as using the toilet to save and using the wiimote speaker as a cell phone you can't helped but get sucked in.
If your like me and you loved Killer7 then this is a absolute must have. As superficial as the plot may seem there is a lot more going on than it seems, I just don't want to spoil it. If you love beat 'em games this again is a must have, hell I'd even say if you own a Wii (it is an exclusive) it's a must have. The only people who should steer clear would be those easily offended by naughty language, massive bloodshed, and prudes.
