Guys, please don't just post a list of your favorite artists. I am pretty sure the directions say to write a little bit about WHY you like an artist. Anyone who just posts a list with no explanation after this post will be TOd.

Fall Out Boy: I love their lyrics, because they just have really deep meanings & use a lot of metaphores. I wish I could write like Pete Wentz.
Bullet for my Valentine: My boyfriend got me into this band. I like them because they aren't too screamo/hardcore, but they're not like a soft band either. I like their lyrics as well.
The Used: I kind of like them because they're not as mainstream as a lot of bands. I think their music is good & they're not too hard either.
Ozzy: He's just great. I grew up listening to him & even though he's fucked up in the head he seems like an awesome guy. His music is great. I love his lyrics & the sound of it.
Disturbed: I just like the way they sound all together. I think they would be awesome live.

Rammstein: They are German! This makes them awesome.
Okay they're also awesome because of how they don't really care how they are perceived and their music reflects this, with lots of vulgar references and all that jazz.
Kittie: You don't often see many metal bands composed of all females out there, do ya? :] Morgan has an excellent scream and an excellent singing voice.
Muse: Softer than what I normally listen to, but still awesome. Matt Bellemy's voice is absolutely amazing, and the songs are very powerful.
Marilyn Manson: He's an odd bloke, admittedly, but his songs are excellent. He's an intelligent person, and so is his music. Lots of allegories.
Cradle of Filth: Dani Filth has an amazing voice, and is an excellent song writer. Their songs are all very deep, and the instrumental parts of them are impressive.

Honourable Mentions: Slipknot, The Johnstones, System of a Down, The Berzerker, Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, Neurosonic, Nightwish, Mindless Self Indulgence, KoRn, Cancer Bats.

In Order:
1) Nine Inch Nails: I've listened to them forever and I don't think any other band compares to them. While I do find a lot of bands more interesting, NIN songs never, ever, ever get old.

2) Queens of the Stone Age: They have a totally different style than to any other rock band I've listened to, a lot of their stuff is gold.

3) The Gallows: I've only recently started listening to them but they became my favorite punk/hardcore punk band instantly. I love the vocals and I love the tunes. Period the end, even if they only have one album released.

4) Black Sabbath: I love these songs, I've heard people say they aren't that great and only have a few good songs, but I have to disagree. These guys rock.

5) The Killers: I do think they are a little feminine, but I enjoy many of their songs and they are good.

A lot of my list has to do with when I started listening to them and how often I actually did, because there are bands that have one or two insanely great songs that I may like more than a lot of my favorite bands' songs, but they're only 1-2 songs. These are the bands that I can basically listen to every song they have and still enjoy it.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Just awesome. Their older stuff is (in my opinion) better than the newer albums, they had the funk you just couldn't beat. And come on, who else has played gigs with socks on their cocks?
Tony Flow & the Majestic Masters of Mayhem ring any bells?

2. Rage Against The Machine - Took me a while to get to like them, but I look back now wondering why I didnt like them at first listen. So powerful, and explosive when turned up load.

3. Nirvana - In one word? Iconic.

4. Kings of Leon - Such a unique sound, largely down to Calebs vocals. They're a kind of 'love them or hate them' band. I love them.

5. Two Gallants - I don't know much about these guys, but they seem to stand out, a real original sound to them. Well worth a listen (http://www.twogallants.com/audio.html#)

Got to mention:
Foo Fighters
Paul Weller
Prodigy
Queens of the Stone Age
Frank Zappa
Silverchair
Tenacious D
Audioslave
Jeff Buckley
Arcade Fire

Soundgarden - I can listen to their albums over and over again and never get tired of them. Just such a tight band, everyone one of them adds something interesting to the mix. Love the chopy rhythms and the in depth lyrics. They're never given enough credit, ever.

Jeff Buckley - Do I really need to explain why this mans a god? Nuh uh! Shame on you if you don't agree.

Radiohead - It's great to see how they evolved over the years, and they never sold out! Thom Yorke always seems to know whats going on inside my head and makes a song out of it, its quite odd.

Shihad - Anyone outside of Australia know these guys? They're one of the most solid rock bands in history. They hurt my head with the name change and partial selling out bullshit.. but I'm hoping they're over that phase for good now. Great lyrics. Jon is one of the best front mans too!

Pearl Jam - They are HUGE! I own every album (last one never really grabbed me though). I'm glad Matt Cameron is their drummer now.. its like Soundgarden lives on =)

So yeah... 90's alternative rock is mostly my thing. I love rhythm and raw emotion and it seemed to be everywhere in the 90's.. I miss that decade oh so much.

Iron Maiden- One of the last few "oldie" bands to keep going, and for so long as well, yet still able to maintain the quality they had 30 years ago. Some great rifts going on there too, in a majority of their stuff. I absolutely hated Powerslave.
Deep Purple- Got into this band whilst sifting through my shared vinyl collection. Older than Iron Maiden, amazing rifts, lyrics and vocals. I just hope I get the privilige to see them live one day.
Bjork- I don't care what people say, she is a talented vocalist and songwriter. Her lyrics are uplifting and heartfelt and she never fails to provoke confusion and questions in any decisions she makes.
I adore the music video for "All is full of love"
Slipknot- One of the best heavy nu-metal bands around at the moment. Corey Taylor is an excellant vocalist, one of the few decent nu-metal vocalists out there. Great lyrics, great rifts and when they are not running about and descending into madness, they can harmonise better than any church choir.
David Bowie.- An amazing songwriter, completely timeless. Some of his work never fails to this day to puzzle and confuse many.
The fact is, all he did with his lyrics was jumble the words about after coming up with them. And some of his rifts were invented by his guitarist. And his voice in some of his stuff is of questionable quality.
But he somehow managed to get away with it and pull it off. I personally lable him one of the best of his time.

In no particular order:

Maximo Park - Our Velocity
The song just has a natural catch that makes you want to listen to it. A song which the title links to, rather than some songs where the title is "Don't you just want to stab a badger to make it squeal" which ends up being a pun about romance.

Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Saw them live, amazing song; just blew me away (next to the amps, quite literally).

Ian Brown - Illegal Attacks
Not a particularily hardcore song but the style and lyrics are kind of addictive to me, so I like the song more than others.

The Enemy - Away from Here
Great band, almost as great song; which just catches you and lures you in with it's chocolatey... *shudder*

Led Zeppelin
Kind of cheating here, but anything by Led Zeppelin gets my vote.

I'm willing to bet my life savings that I get more action in one weekend than you'll get in your entire life. I was simply pointing out that Matt Heafy has a very limited range and that what you said was wrong.

If y 'action', you mean making knuckle children, then yes, you got me there.

Well, I figured I'd make my first post be something that explains a little bit about me. I may not have the most appealing taste in music by todays standards due to the fact the people ignorantly stereotype, but oh well.
The following are in no particular order.

The Misfits
Whether it be Danzig, Graves, or Only, this band is definitely one of my favorites. Many people say "The Misfits suck without Danzig!". Stuff like that doesn't bother me. I've grown to love everything they've released, and I don't see myself disliking them anytime soon.

Deicide
I first heard them when I was about eight. It was the song 'Serpents of the Light' that had me hooked. Now, keep in mind that their lyrics had gone right over my head at that age, but nonetheless, I was still diggin' them at an early age. Ever since then, I've kept up with this band, and have loved every piece of their discography.

Slipknot
Now here's where I think the majority of the flaming will come from. Yes, they wear costumes... Get over it! I love the band! Not so much a fan of 'Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses' but it's definitely got some good songs on it. My love for them came around during their S/T release. My buddy showed me 'No Life' and from then on I was hooked! It's a shame half of their fans own eight shirts, and have six songs via a p2p service. Their name has been ruined, and it's really upsetting.

Lamb of God/Burn the Priest
Now, the reason I included both their current name and their prior name was because I enjoy both. Their release of 'Burn the Priest' if definitely better than 'Sacrament' and 'New American Gospel', yet it doesn't quite compare to 'Ashes of the Wake' or 'As the Palaces Burn'. Their music is just amazing... There's no real story behind how I got hooked on them, or anything like that. They've been a band that I've listened to for nearly three years, and I've loved every moment of it. Randy Blythe's voice is just awesome.

System of a Down
I'm pretty sure I got hooked on them the way most people around my age did. It was hearing 'Chop Suey'. The moment I hear that song on the radio, I went and bought their S/T album, not knowing it didn't have 'Chop Suey' on it. Little did I know, I'd love their S/T album and it's songs much more than I would ever love the songs on 'Toxicity'. To this day, I still love them. My favorite CD is easily 'Steal This Album'.

----

Now, I know when most people see Slipknot, Lamb of God, and System of a Down on a list, they automatically think that I'm a young kind experiencing teen angst or some crap. You may also think that I'm some poser who doesn't know his left hand from his forehead. I really don't care what kind of image I put out, and I'm just saying this in hopes to keep ignorant comments out. :P

In no particular order...

Staind
Breaking Benjamin
Trapt (their 2nd cd is badass, first cd....not so much)
Soilwork (Idk, I'm usually not a big fan of euro-metal, but my friend introduced me to these guys and they're pretty damn good)
A7x

I like them for mainly all the same reason: I love bands that can tie great vocals with strong acoustics. I can also relate to a lot of the lyrics.

Strange, when I heard them, I just thought they were ok.

Fair enough, it's just that the majority of people i've spoken to about Kings of Leon either think "they're complete gods", or that "they're shit". It's nice to hear a different opinion though - i'm just wondering, was it because you'd heard bands similar to them that you deemed them "ok", or did they just not make that much of an impression on you?

My favorite CD is easily 'Steal This Album'.

For serious? It's really rare to hear someone say that. More often it's the first two albums, while other people scold the last two albums but still accept them. People generally have no opinion about STA! Although, one of my favorite songs from SOAD is Highway Song.

1). Coheed and Cambria - My now brother-in-law would frequently play Coheed's third album in his car and would refuse to tell me who they were. Upon finding one of their songs on the radio and asking him about it he finally told me that was who I'd been listening to; I've been hooked ever since.

2). Thrice - The same situation as Coheed, my brother-in-law must've loved keeping great music from me, but to elaborate, my Thrice findings came upon a mixed cd. We were on the way home from a field trip at a summer camp (he was one of the counselors) and The Artist and the Ambulance came on. The same situation with me later finding them out came to be and I've liked them since.

3). Anberlin - My sister had let me sample a few of their songs off their second album and I just brushed it off since I instinctly hate most of her music choices, but upon listening to another track off their myspace I was sorry I had passed them up before.

4). Underoath - I used to tease one of my friends in my history class last year saying that Underoath sucked. I was just messing with him since I had never actually taken the opportunity to listen to them. I was watching TVU one Saturday that year and Underoath was hosting one of their programs. They were playing their music videos and as I watched more and more I realized that instead of teasing him I should've joined in his love of the band.

5). The Almost - It's funny that most of the music I like comes by mistake, self discovery or initial distaste. This example being the latter. I was watching MTV2 and I saw this redhaired singer who I orignially thought was a girl, but now I know Aaron is most certainly a man, but I digress. I was watching their video and was not impressed with the song (Say This Sooner). One of my buddies at a band practice reminded me of the band since I got a little curious of who they were. I looked them up on iTunes later that evening and sampled their album to realize I had been wrong upon closer inspection.

Ugh. I'd actually made a well thought out response to this, but couldn't post it due to being banned.

So, fuck it, short version, woo.

When I hear them, thought they were good, but, unlike most bands that I think are good, I didn't feel the need to acquire their music. In that, they're mediocre.

My top 5 bands at this moment are (in no particular order)

1) Three Days Grace - Honestly, I dont think I could ever get tired of their music. They have a way of getting to me because I can relate to 90% of their songs. I dont think I've ever listened to a song of theirs that I didnt like (except for "Burn". That one was just dumb).

2) Secondhand Serenade - Same as TDG, I can relate to 90% of their songs. I actually go to sleep listening to their music. <3

3) Killswitch Engage - They just keep getting better and better. Excellent guitar riffs, excellent lyrics, addicting sound, and "Arms of Sorrow" ALWAYS gets stuck in my head. And since their lyrics actually sound iintelligent, it makes it that much better.

4) Breaking Benjamin - I started really listening to them when "Diary of Jane" came out. Then I learned that they did "So Cold" and "Blow Me Away" and I loved them even more. "So Cold" is always an awesome song to listen to when you're sort of sad but getting better, ya know?

5) Paramore - The lead singer is GORGEOUS, the lyrics are typically very insightful if not funny, and their ballads touch my heart. Their upbeat songs are very jumpy and I cant ever resist singing them and dancing around when I hear them.

Vin

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers Some amazing sounds here. Flea was my inspiration to play bass, and his slap technique makes me happy.
2) Queens Of The Stone Age Very nice music. Makes me want to take my pants off.
3) Slipknot Musical genius and relatively original stuff.
4)Marilyn Manson Lyrical awesomeness. Heavy riffs. Bassy sounds. Love and hate. I like it lots.
5) Now fighting for position number five we have Muse (for their inspiring and original sound and mind-blowing live performances), Disturbed (seriously good stuff), Fatboy slim (if you heard it, you know why) and Gogol Bordello (You want to experience the pits at a live show. Brilliant.) But I think I'll give this spot to an old favourite, Prodigy, because it makes my night when they play anything by them in a club.

In some order, but not much of one :

Payable On Death (POD) - Love them, the fantastic lyrics and bouncy but heavy tune are just perfect for me at all times, When Angels And Serpents Dance has very quickly become my favourate album of all time, just perfect stuff.

Disturbed - Just pure fantastic.

KillSwitch Engage - Got When Daylight Dies for my birthday, and it's one of the best metal albums every, I absolutely love it.

Andrew W.K - Sure, his 3rd album wasn't as good as his 2nd which lacked the awesomeness of his 1st, but it's still fantasticly fun stuff and I can't have a Top 5 anything about music without a mention.

Pfft, a bit of a toss up here, so i'll just mention DragonForce, Dream Theater, Rage Against The Machine, Rush and System Of A Down, because they are all perfect bands for different mood's.

FRANZ FERDINAND- My god have anyone listened to their first album, Fuck I still listen to it right before I go to sleep. I haven't bought their second album because I refuse to, plus I can't find it anywhere and If I do its expensive as fuck.
Muse- Because of their powerful music.
The Strokes- Listen to Reptilia and tell me they don't suck come on do it.
Red Hot Chili Peppers- So many classic songs that you can listen to and still bang your head to it. And they still rock.
MSI(Mindless Self Indulgence)- Because they are definately not meant to be Mainsteam something I love about them, They sing about anything and they aren't afraid about it.

Honorable mentions: SOAD, The KILLERS, The Pixies, Coheed and Cambria, Weezer

Tough.

Poison - Just a generally awesome glam/rock/metal band that has some very fat riffs and a great singer.
Favorite Song(s) - Every Rose has its Thorn

Red Hot Chili Peppers - What can I say? Everyone loves these guys, for the most part. Really great bass and drums team, guitarist is incredible, and the vocals just work with the music.
Favorite Song(s) - Porcelin, Transcending, If, Snow, Under the Bridge

Modest Mouse - My main thing for this ridiculous alternative band. Something about Isaac randomly yelling and screaming, and being unable to understand him in 90 percent of his songs, but they're just.. awesome. Some so catchy, some so heavy, some so ridiculous that you gotta love 'em.
Favorite Song(s) - Blame it on the Tetons (One of my favorite songs of all time.) Bankrupt On Selling, The View, Ocean Breathes Salty, Parting of the Sensory, Fly Trapped in a Jar, Steam Engenius, Tiny Cities made of Ashes, 3rd Planet, Lives, and Perfect Disguise.

Electric Light Orchestra - Come on man! come on! Awesome live performances, crazy riffs and bass lines, great band in general.
favorite song(s) - Last Train to London, Mr. Blue Sky

And last? I'm not sure. It's a toss up between Aerosmith, Dream Theater, Van Halen, Animosity, and many more.

Lamb of God - Another Nail For Your Coffin

Amon Amarth - Pursuit of Vikings

#1. The Killers. "Sam's Town" "For Reasons Unknown" "Don't Shoot Me Santa" Even though they don't have my favorite song, they are definitely my favorite band. The incredible melodies and lyrics and creativity and the wonder that is Sam's Town has earned them the position as my 'favorite' band for... years now. I was disappointed with a lot of Sawdust, but on the whole it's really good.
#2. Snow Patrol. "Warmer Climate" This is the artist of my 'favorite' song, which has remained in it's position since... December or so year before last. All of their songs are connected to memories, and the struggle the past year and a half has been. I listen to them at my loneliest, but not my most depressed. They are so incredibly beautiful, melding the instruments together hauntingly, communicating emotion and demanding attention more than almost any other band.
#3. Life House. "Whatever It Takes" Another permanent in my library. They are beautiful, artworks. I just can't watch the videos because the lead singer has terrible hair and it takes away from the music. heh. Who We Are is my favorite album for it's new direction in intensity.
#4. Mute Math. "Typical" "Noticed" "You Are Mine" I only have one album, can only find the one album sadly, and can listen to them for hours. The harmony of the instruments, and the haunting lyrics... I can't really describe it. But it's not slow and it's not at all boring. It's... intelligent.
#5. Guster. "Rocketship" "Demons" Amazing... Sing along music, at least I scream the lyrics when I'm driving. The lyrics make them sound kind of like assholes, but they are human, and real, and sung and played wonderfully. The sound is acoustic and clean, and can range from energetic and happy to haunting and creepy.
Sigur Ros- "Hopipola" emotion filled music, even with lyrics in Icelandic. Soothing and beautiful
The Brown Derbies- for their song "Romeo & Juliet", the best love song I've ever heard
Trans-Siberian Orchestra- "The Lost Christmas Eve" I listen to them even when it's not Christmas
Yellowcard- "View From Heaven" Ocean Avenue was a great album
Coldplay- "Warning Sign" "The Scientist" sad... reminds me vividly of my boyfriend. It's his favorite band
OK Go!- "Invincible" "Do What You Want" delightfully fun!

I'm so sure I've forgotten something. Sigh. Well here's the list of most played music in my collection, or should be. I get new music all the time, and sometimes forget about the old standards.

Hello =)

My top 5 looks like this, and it's in a specific order:

In Flames:
I started to like this band when i heard Cloud Connected, The Quite Place, Trigger and Swim. These 4 songs was wtf how can any1 make so good music? But then i heard the old songs such as, December Flower, Jester Script Transfigured, Artifacts of the Black Rain, Zombie Inc., Clayman etc and i actually got quite disappointed bout the songs i thuoght were so good =p... but still the new albums aren't crap just decent, and only a couple of songs which i think is insane such as, My Sweet Shadow, Vacuum, Cloud Connected, Reflect the Storm and come more, were the older albums are the diffinition of melodic death metal. Perfect mixture of acustic guitar, melodic riffs, brutal growling etc. i can't imagine anything better. A perfect mixture of brutality and melody... ! Really if u like somthin beutiful yet brutal this is it for u...
But the new album A Sense of Purpose is fucking sweet, can keep up with the old albums!! They evovl as they want so that's great i'll stay true to In Flames as long as i live! Best band ever!

Amon Amarth
These vikings as made a huge impression on me! They make extremely simple riffs and solos but it sounds so good, and his lyrics are very brutal but imba! This is melodic death metal with a viking theme... That's what they say atleast, don't care much bout genres... Only started listining to these guys recently but they really really rock.

Dark Tranquillity
Can't really explain them they're jsut imba, allso melodic death metal... well uhhm what to say? If u take the sound of the album Come Clarity of In Flames, and mix it with a lil more melodic riffs and solos... think it's like that.

Dimmu Borgir
Melodic Black Metal, hate their costumes but the music is fuckin sweet! It's like a mixture of DTs vocalist.. and uhhm.... I suck at explaining stuff xD

Soilwork
These guys are a lil boring in the long run... It's like a modern melo death sound. They just don't full blow me away but still i like to listen to them, cos well i dunno? =p

Others i like to listen to:
Dire Straits
Scorpions
Pink Floyd
At The Gates (When i'm in need of somthin a lil more brutal)
Disturbed
Drowning Pool (not much tho)
Bruce Springsteen
Rolling Stones
Queen (When ever my mum listen to it, can be quite good =o)
Led Zeppelin

Garbage : Shirley Manson is my idol. She's got a great voice, she's gorgeous and she's lived a similar life style to me, which is why I feel like I can relate to a lot of her songs. I can feel horrible, but after listening to a few songs, I feel so much better.

The Cure : The music is so inspirational. I don't even pay attention to the lyrics most of the time, but hearing the guitar rifts and the keyboard... it takes me away. I can relax and it can help put me asleep when I need it. There's also a few songs that make me upbeat and happy.

Ayumi Hamasaki : No, I don't understand Japanese 99% of the time... but Ayumi is so popular, all her songs are translated anyway. I love the music!!!! The guitars, the drums, the keyboard!!! The beats are amazing.. and you can tell by the tone of her voice if the music is meant to be upbeat or sorrowful. Her remixes are amazing, I can't help but want to dance when I hear them.

Linkin Park : I love Chester's voice! He has such good vocals. I love how he can carry a note. I love the lyrics too. When I was going through some hard times in high school, I'd just play some Linkin Park. It would make me want to break things... but that's ok. You gotta let out some anger!

Globe : Another Japanese group. At first, I didn't like them, but after listening to a variety of their songs, I fell in love with them. Their music is so different, with some techno here, a mix of rapping and some ballads. They sing in Japanese, English and French in some songs. I love their version of "Stop! In The Name Of Love". Keiko, the female vocals, has amazing pipes. She can carry a tune and a very high tune at that! Their music makes me wanna go to dance clubs all night... or draw Anime.

In Flames: Pretty much my all-time favourite band. I started listening to them a few years ago, though for a long while I only liked albums such as Come Clarity and Reroute to Remain. However in the last few months I decided to listen to their older stuff, and it's brutally awesome in comparison. Albums like Whoracle and Colony have most of my favourite stuff on them. I was however bitterly disappointed with their new 'album', it was pure shit. Apart from that, they're great, even though they've now sold out.

Soilwork: I heard about these guys through a mate at some point, so I picked up some of their stuff. I prefer their newer stuff, but as with In Flames I'll probably move to their heavier stuff at some point. They're just a bit behind In Flames in terms of musical awesomeness, but I still really like them.

Disturbed: Softer than what I normally listen to, but great music nonetheless. As far as I'm concerned, they have yet to sell out, and I like their newer music just as much as that from the album 'Down With The Sickness'. New album is coming out soon, so I'm keen to get it.

Kamelot: Yeh, power metal is awesome. Kamelot, however, seems to be my favourite out of all the bands I listen to. They produce some epic stuff, and most of their songs I can listen to over and over again without getting bored.

Linkin Park: Everything up till their newest album, which for the record was complete sell-out filth. Their older stuff is obviously alot better, and though I don't like rap much, their combination of rap and hard rock/metal is pretty damn awesome.

GZA: Honestly if you haven't listened to his Liquid Swords album, then frankly you don't know what rap music is all about. Even if you do not like rap music, you will love this album.

Minutemen: One of the most influential punk bands in history (behind the Ramones and the Clash) their album Double Nickels on the Dime is a 43 track masterpiece that deserves to be listened to by everybody.

Captain Beefheart: Known for his Delta-Blues style of playing as well as creating on of the most bizarre and brilliant albums of all time, Troutmask Replica, is worth any music lover to pick and listen to.

The Velvet Underground: I haven't read all the post on here but I did not see one mention of this band! Quite possible the most influential band in history, the Velvet Underground's style was incredibly unique with it's mixture of pure rock and roll and experimental rock and roll. And Besides Lou Reeds voice is simple amazing.

Frank Zappa: One of the greatest American composers, if not one of the worlds greatest composers, in the past century. He touches upon almost every genre throughout his career and produced some 50 albums! If you have not listened to his music, go find some!

It changes alot, so here's my current top five in no particular order:

Story of the year - Going to see them on 21 of May! =D They've done so many amazing songs, and saying that their new album wasn't a disapointment would be an understatement.

The blackout - Supporting SOTY! Their debut album was packed full of catchy songs that I just want to get up and move to.

Queens of the stone age - I'm not so keen on Era vulgaris, but Songs for the deaf and Lullabies to paralyze are awesome...loving the riffs. [hi5 to J.Homme for playing for kyuss too.]

Lostprophets - Although I wasn't too keen on Liberation transmission, they have a brilliant line up of songs from their first two albums. Great live too.

Funeral for a friend - Their latest album needed time to grow on me, but lets just say I give serious listening time to this band.

Scorpions

To me this is the best band ever, with many good songs, such as Wind of Change and Rock You like a Hurricane. They didn't make my one favourite song though.

[Favourite song: Im loving you.]

Eagles

To tell the truth, i have been listening to only one of their songs very much, but it happens to be the best song ive ever heard.

[Favourite song: Hotel California.]

Death Cab for Cutie

Awesome band, mostly slow songs that you can relax to.

[Favourite song: Soul meets Body.]

Styx

This band made so many awesome songs. For example Mr.Roboto, Snowblind and Too Much time on my Hands. Strangely i think their worst song was Come sail away even though it was pretty good.

[Favourite song: Mr.Roboto.]

Pavlov's Dog

What can i say? Julia, Late November and Dance song.

[Favourite song: Late November.]

Hats of!

Frank Sinatra//: The man's a genius, he should have made a quartet with Burl Ives. That would've been orgasmic on a plate.

Killswitch Engage//: Words can not express my deep adoration of this band. Kick ass screams, and good lyrics, and decent instrumentals. It's like a musical sushi of rad stuff; I love the lead vocalist, his voice is very nifty.

Mindless Self Indulgence//: The lyrics crack me up, the beat is fun to listen to in the car, and I love screaming their song Stupid MF. The whole band is wacked, everythings pretty random, and the music video for Shut me up makes me smile. Plus they have a CD cover with zombie chicks on it. Come on.

The Beatles//: If I need to explain why they are on this list then you should go die. :] kthanks.

Parkway Drive//: Recently found them, and recently fell in love with them. I can't say much about them since I haven't really listened to a lot, but what I've heard is pretty fucking sweet.

1. (By a country mile) Muse These guys really inspired me to get back into music, and I've been listening to them non-stop for almost two years now: Favourite song Citizen Erased - Origin of Symmetry

2. Coheed and Cambria Great band that helped fuel my music playing, manage to be super-technical and still put some passion in their songs, while all the while not taking themselves too seriously: Favourite Song In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (what a cool album title)

3.Rage Against the Machine Probably recognised as the most influential band of my generation, extremely talented group that manage to keep a strong focus on a political message: Favourite Song Know Your Enemy - Rage Against the Machine

4. The Fall of Troy A friend showed me this band a while back and I've been digging them ever since, amazingly good band, especially considering that they're all really young aswell: Favourite Song F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X - Doppleganger, also made it's way onto Guitar Hero 3

5. The Who Keith Moon was the first person to ever make me want to play an instrument (Drums). Some of the tracks that these guys laid down are still relevant today: Favourite Song Won't Get Fooled Again - Who's Next

I'm new here don't hate me!

Don't pay attention to the lyrics? The lyrics are half the beauty of The Cure. Robert Smith is an incredible lyricist.

Opeth - Pretty intricate music, it's more entertaining to listen to if you actually know anything about cords and shit but still sweet if you don't. It's fun to try and pick out things that make them so different from other bands. Basically melodic death metal, which is really the only good kind of death metal.
Album: Orchid
Song: The Funeral Portrait

Turisas - A finnish viking metal band. What the fuck is better than that?! No other band can make a flute solo hardcore.
Album: The Varangian Way
Song: Sahti-Waari

Finntroll - Not very good if you don't like black metal vocals, but quite entertaining if you're into orchestral type music within metal riffs.
Album: Nattfodd
Song: Trollhammaren

Black Label Society - Zakk Wylde is a god. A FUCKING GOD. Enough said.
Album: Mafia
Song: Blood Is Thicker Than Water

Amon Amarth - Epic. Their music is almost always about either drinking in a mead hall, or battling then drinking in a mead hall. If Valhalla had a house band, it would be Amon Amarth.
Album: The Fate Of Norns
Song: Pursuit Of Vikings

Amon Amarth - Pursuit of Vikings

Unearth: One of the few bands of their genre who have done things right. Their sound has progressed over the years, yet I enjoy all of their albums, old or new. Great live performances, and some good tracks that a decent sound system will appreciate.

Mastodon: Blood Mountain is a damn good album. There are some pretty unique songs on it. It's hard to pick a favorite song because there are too many good ones.

Demon Hunter: A Christian metal band? Ew. Fortunately religious lyrical references are quite subtle. They were the first metal band with heavier vocals that I got into, and I've listened to them since. Ryan Clark is quite the impressive vocalist. Their music doesn't offer anything overly impressive as far as instrumentals, but I still like every one of their songs.

Katatonia: A band I've only recently started listening to. I try to listen to their album A Great Cold Distance from start to finish at least once a month. They couple heavy riffs with quite calm vocals. Appealing to both metal and mainstream music listeners.

Queen: A bit odd for this list. I've listened to them since I was a kid, and I never get bored of Queen. Everyone should own their Greatest Hits. Damn good music all around.

Honorable mentions: Converge, In Flames, KSE, Mnemic, Bury Your Dead

You two are the only sensible ones on this forum.
I'm definitely a fan of Amon Amarth. Not my top 5 but I would highly recommend them to any metal fan.

Alesana: Favourite song: Neros Decay.
My favourite song, mostly due to lyrics, but also because it just sounds really awesome. You can probably tell what its about from the name (If you know stuff about Nero)
Lamb of God: Favourite song: Omerta
Again, lyrics (I like them alot). Though mostly because of this one part that really chills me. Its about the Mafia code of silence, and comparing those who break it to Judas. Lots of reference to biblical shit too.
Underoath: Favourite song: Reinventing your Exit
I have no idea why I like this song. I just catch myself listening to it and enjoying it.
LoveHateHero: Favourite song: I'll Make it to Brigades
It just sounds awesome. The lyics are good, though because of the meaning it makes you wonder about the lead singer... The lyrics are about him (The lead singer) fearing that he'd stop enjoying singing, or maybe his voice will die and he'll have to stop doing what he loves (Obviously singing)
Cradle of Filth Favourite Song: Nymphetamine
Lyrically the best song on this list. Nymphetamine is the joining of "Nymphomaniac" (I think) and "Amphetamine". I believe it means "A beast like addiction to sex. Which is what this songs about, a guy obsessed with sex and hating it. It makes him frail and weak and I think he kills his girlfriend through it.

While I agree with Third Temptation (Not so much Apology, though it still is a great song) being better than Neros Decay, I don't think it belongs with the other songs on the list. The whole excessively soft thing.

Rise Against - I love their lyrics and they are so good live. My favourite song is either 'prayer of the refugee' simply because the chorus just makes you want to move, and 'survive' because the lyrics are a great philosophy on life.

Muse - Another one for great lyrics, their Wembly gig looked amazing, 'Knights of Cydonia' and 'Time is running out' are my favourite.

Michael Jackson - His personal life may be a bit crazy but his songs are fantastic. The energy of his songs just makes me want to see him live when he was in his prime

My chemical romance - Yeah, loads of people think they are 'fags' and that they are sell outs but some of their older stuff from 'Three cheers for sweet revenge' was actually good. 'Cemetery Drive' is my favourite song, the chorus of it is so powerful.

Hat Shuffle - a local band, they are really funky and energetic, if you see them live or even just listen to them you will want to move to the beat. Search them on myspace if you want to listen to them.

3. Bullet for my Valentine
I don't care if you think there super emo or something thay rock harder than most bands out now.

Metallica-Basically just win.

AC/DC-They started/inspired alot in rock, and c'mon they have angus, one of the greatest guitar players ever.

Sum 41-Many would probably disagree, but I think they make pretty good music and have some variation with their songs.

Foo Fighters-Whether its their older songs or a song that came out a few months back, the foo fighters kick ass.

Dr. Dre-This is an oddball in the list, but Dr. Dre is one of the rappers who actually had decent lyrics rather than YOUUUUUUUUUUUU repeated over and over again, and started alot in the rap game.

My #1 is absolutely Seether - Shaun Morgan's voice touches me to the core every time. Anything I'm feeling can be accentuated or altered by listening to them. Fave songs: Blister, Walk away from the sun, Dazed and Abused (When they were known as Saron Gas)

The rest in no particular order:

Tool - I think Maynard James Keenan is a musical/lyrical genius. I wasn't a fan before because I was put off by the videos but the music is inspiring. Songs: 10 000 days, Right in Two

System of a Down: Another genius, Serj Takian's voice is strong and all the bandmates have such charisma, you can feel it. The music is funny, satisfying, interesting. Fave songs: Sugar, ATWA, Aerials

Evanescence: Despite her behaviour the past year or two, I still love Amy Lee to death. Ev was the first rock band I submerged myself in. I prefer the older tracks from Fallen, Origins and the demos to the new album but I still love it. Amy's voice in haunting, Ben Moody's writing was awesome and I can't say one song I don't like of Ev. Fave songs: Farther Away, Even in Death, My Last Breath

Korn: Most of what Jonathan Davis touches is gold (See the Queen of the Damned soundtrack). You can easily see how/why the music touches the fans with this quote from Jonathan D.: "You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same." Munky and Fieldy are amazing and they all put on a good show. Fave songs: Coming Undone, Beat it upright, Make me Bad

Pieman, i went to a concert last night at a place called The Door in Dallas. Alesana was headlining and LoveHateHero was there, it was incredible.

My top 5 would be:

Something Corporate Their lyrics are amazing and my name on here is one of their most famous songs.

The Chariot They're amazing live and have some great songs.

MCR I know a lot of people hate them, but i still love their music.

Jack's Mannequin Basically the same band as Something Corporate, since they have the same lead singer, but their music style is different, but in a good way.

Sky Eats Airplane A lot like The Chariot, these guys were at the concert i went to last night too and put on a crazy show.

Slayer: By far my fave band. I started listening to them 2 years ago, it was instant love. With lyrical themes such as warfare, death and satanism; plus fast riffs from the amazing Jeff Hanneman it's impossible for a metalhead to hate on these guys.
Favorite song: Reborn

Metallica:Actually...80's Metallica. When I was 12 or 13 I saw "I disappear" on MTV, to then be striked by their "St. Anger", I completely hated them because of their "Korn/Slipknot status". Couple years later I heard "Hit the Lights" off their debut album, I couldn't believe it was the same band, so I listened to their first four albums and I've been a devoted fan ever since. I kinda like their self titled album (1991), but I didnt even bothered hearing their next releases (load, reload crap)
Favorite song: Blackened

Opeth: These swedish guys are amazing. They mix blues, jazz and death metal creating a very original sound. Often they include acoustic guitar passages, which showcases the range of creativity in their compositions.
Favorite song: Blackwater Park

Iron Maiden: Since I wasnt alive in the 80's I missed all the fun from these guys. They need no introduction and their songs are already metal anthems. There were so many rumors that they were coming to my country, I was crushed when I realized they weren't. I hope I get to see them before Dave Murray dies.
Favorite song: The Flight Of Icarus

Dream Theater: It's always been about the noise with me, listing thrash & death metal as my favorite genres, until a guy in my school recommended me DT. John Petrucci is a guitar god. He displays his virtuosism in every song, the melow jazzy guitar passages, the speed metal riffing, shredding solos... just plain amazing. The band's side project sans James LaBrie (their vocalist), Liquid Tension Experiment, is one of my fav's bands also.
Favorite song: Stream Of Consciousness.

Queens Of The Stone Age: They made one of the best albums ever (Songs for the deaf) and I really like their riffs and vocals. Especially with Mark Lanegan as special guest. Plus, the live gigs are amazing!
Album: Songs for the Deaf
Song: Song For the Dead (Same album)

Muse: Also because of the smart riffs and clever lyrics. Live they are unbeatable, best band on stage in this era of time!
Album: Origin of Symmetry
Song: Knights of Cydonia (Black holes and revelations)

Metallica: Best metal band ever, should deserve a place in anyone's list!
Album: Master of Puppets
Song: Battery (same album)

The Kills: Just descovered them recently, but fell in love from the first song! They are amazing. The mixture of rock with a little beat under it just feels right.
Album: No wow
Song: Death Row 7 (Same album)

Soulwax/2 many DJ's: This is a Belgian band, but they're quite famous in the world, I think. They are 2 brothers, in Belgium we call them 'the fucking Dewaele Brothers' and they play a mixture of rock and dance as Soulwax, but as 2 many dj's they only play dance. They don't play songs originally from them only remixes, but remixes thet are the top of the world. Give them a try.
Album: Any minute now
Song: Too many dj's (Much against anyone's advice) From this song, they also got their second band's name

Daft Punk: Awesomely epic songs that can get stuck in your head and eventually burn a hole straight through your brain allowing for sweet electronic riffs to flow through your mutilated nogging like melted butter...yum, butter.

Sonata Arctica: Great metal band. they have some unique songs and a cool neo-classical metal style. Awesome A++.

Aerosmith: Some of the greatest guitar licks have come from aerosmith and their songs cease to amaze me.

Mylo: More electronic music. He's created some amazing songs out there with the only help of his computer, pretty cool imo.

Muse: I can't really describe muse because they're so unique. Just listen to their music and you'll see their sense of eclectic style.

Blink 182 - they've been my favorite band for years upon years now. i was lucky enough to attend their last ever live show and nothing will ever beat that. i was and still am heartbroken over their break-up. on top of that, i'm a huge mark hoppus fan, i feel he made me who i am today.

Boys Like Girls - everything about this band makes me smile. theyre so happy go lucky and its the kinda music that i can listen to bo matter what mood im in. theyre probably one of the only bands that have kept me hooked like this. i think it was hearing thunder that made me like them.

Paramore - my best friend got me into them and ive been in love since. most of the bands i listen to have male vocalists so a lot of their songs are about guy problems and about female love interests but hayley writes about things that girls can relate to. shes a brilliant role-model and i honestly adore her.

Bring Me The Horizon - even though im not really into "metal" i have a soft spot for bmth, dont ask why. a lot of people will disagree with me on this one but i really do love those lads. meeting them completed me a little.

Senses Fail - i heard of this band through a chatroom and chanced picking up one of their cds without listening to them. im so glad i did it cos i fell in love instantly. ive been a fan for over 6 years now and have seen them twice, met them once. their lyrics are amazing and buddy is a perfect vocalist.

-Finnish Gothic Rock with some deep lyrics and a Ramones-like quality...
(Fav: "Never Say Die")

HIM
-More Finnish Rock. Loved their old stuff the best.
(Fav: "Poison Girl")

Bloodhound Gang
-What's better than white-semi-rappers with perverted lyrics?!
(Fav: "Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope" and "Mope" (tie))

Deathstars
-Swedish Rock. Fell in love with them when I heard their remake of "White Wedding".
(Fav: "White Wedding")

Uniklubi
-Finnish Rock sung only in Finnish. Only complaint is that I cannot understand most of it ;)
(Fav: "Rakkautta ja Piikklankkaa")

Yeahhs. I love Scandinavian Rock.

I really enjoy Classic stuff, so 4/5 of this stuff is old.

Queen
They are, in my opinion, the greatest band ever. Freddie, a fantastic singer, with a 4 octave vocal range. Brian, who is very under appreciated. Roger, who is to me the greatest drummer ever. And John, who sits in the back, but makes fantastic beats, and has crafted the signature bass line of Under Pressure and Another One Bites The Dust
Favorite Song Very hard, but I have to go with Breakthru or If You Can't Beat Em Join Em.

AC/DC
I just recently got into them, but I find their fantastic combination of pounding drums, screaming vocals, and guitar madness if amazing.
Favorite Song Rock and Roll ain't Noise Pollution

Bang Camaro
The fact the have 20 singers at once is just awesome, combined with extreme guitars and drums, just makes them the best bands, to me, to debut in 2000+
Favorite Song Pleasure (Pleasure)

The Beatles
Do you really need an explanation?
Favorite Song Paperback Writer

Iron Maiden
Just fantastic metal, no less, maybe more.
Favorite Song Fear of the Dark

Hmm... This is tough... I'll give it a go in trying to narrow down my list.

1) Godspeed You! Black Emperor
2) Neurosis
3) Enslaved
4) Ufomammut
5) and a 3 way tie between Shining, Rwake and Mastodon

1) Neurosis
Best god damn post-metal/ambient sludge band out there.

2) Gojira

Probably the best death metal band out there. >_>

3) Cult of Luna

Second only to Neurosis in the genre of post-metal.

4) Mastodon

The gods of technical metal, hands down.

5) godspeed you! black emperor

The gods of post-rock. They have YET to disappoint me.

1) System of a Down
The music is just amazing, the guitar's riffs are amazing, the lyrics, everything.

2) The Beatles
Very catchy and very fun to listen to.

3) Muse
I think what everyone else says pretty much sums them up :P and amazing live.

4) Fall of Troy
Probably the craziest band i've seen. Tons of time changes, a style of guitar playing that's pretty unique, random lyrics, hilarious song titles, ex "How to hotwire a uterus" and "Shhh!!! if you're quiet i'll show you a dinosaur"

5) Mozart
He's...good? :P

The Beatles....and claiming such is a cause worth fighting for.
Let It Be, Revolution, Paperback Writer, I Saw Her Standing There, et cetera

Van Halen....preferrably with Roth, but Hagar had some decent stuff.
Mean Street, Women in Love, Light Up the Sky

Alice Cooper....damned good lyricist, always had decent guitarists, noteably Buxton and Roberts
Billion Dollar Babies, Muscle of Love, My Stars, Looney Tune

Ozzy...not a huge Sabbath fan, but from Roads, Lee, and Wylde...mhm.
Crazy Train and Mr. Crowley, duh, So Tired, Believer, S.A.T.O.

Guns N' Roses....c'mon, they were just good, with some underrated lyrics.
Used to Love her(but I Had to Kill Her), Estranged, Sweet Child O' Mine,
Locomotive, Night Train

1. Muse
Matt Bellamy is a genius and Dom Howard and Chris Wolstenholme are amazing. They can have really melodic songs or really heavy ones, they rock

2. My Chemical Romance
Their sounds are amazing, they really put a lot of emotion behind their songs. Plus Gerard Way can actually sing...

3. Panic at the Disco
They sound amazing, and their first and second albums are very dofferent. Though the first one is better the second one has slower, more optomistic stuff.

4. Paramore
They are really good, though they're not perfect

5. 30 seconds to Mars
awsome tunes

also worthy:-
The Beatles
Queen
Nirvana
Jimmy Eat World
Madina Lake
Iron Maiden

Sorry honey but Gerard Way CANNOT sing. There's no emotion in any album but the first, which I somehow doubt you even know about. The Black Parade is a concept album, and a terrible one at that. Three Cheers was meant to be a concept album so it doesn't have much emotion either.

Well, here's the list at the moment:

Exhorder - A farily technical band that pretty much rocks my socks off. If you like Pantera you'd probably like them, as Exhorder is one of their bigger influences in their transition from glam to modern style.
Favorite Song: Desecrator

Led Zeppelin - Just pure blues/folk/rock awesomeness.
Favorite Song: Bring it on Home or Bron Y-Aur Stomp

Iced Earth - Basically my introduction to good power metal after beginning with the broken record that is Dragonforce,
Favorite Song: The Dark Saga

Powerglove - Classic video game music played in metal. Guess it reminds me of the simple days.
Favorite Song: Storm Eagle

Great Big Sea - Newfoundland folk music.
Favorite Song: The Scolding Wife

the beastie boys: favorite hip-hop artists of all time. i am disappointed in their lastest album, though. they are so much better lyrically.

led zeppelin: something about classic rock just intrests me. led zeppelin being the all time best hard rock group of the 70's they are my favorite.

blink-182: just awesome. i absolutely love all their music.

down to nothing: GREAT hardcore band. lyrics actually mean something and they are a great band putting forth a lot of effort into their music.

daggermouth: its really great to see a pop-punk band that is trying new things.

Apoptygma Berzerk: I have to say that there isn't one song of theirs I don't like.

Incubus: Make Yourself is probably my favorite album of theirs.

AFI: Love their music and sound, also Davey.

Chevelle: I like alternative, and they are definitely alternative.

Blink 182: They are the band that opened my eyes to punk/rock music wayyyyyy back when I was a youngin', so I'll always love them.

Other worthy mentions: Unwritten Law, Rise Against, System of a Down, Tool, The Beetles, Blondie, CCR, Breaking Benjamin, and Michael Jackson, YES, Michael Jackson. I can't help but to groove to his tunes.

The Blood Brothers: Hardcore/experimental/post-hardcore/etc. I really hate the kind of genres people use to define this band, but it's the broad range of genres they cross into, manipulate and reference that make them so amazing. Young Machetes is my favorite album.
love rhymes with hideous car wreck /highfive

Lordi
I like Lordi because they have a great, unique sound for a Heavy metal band. Most people's first impressions are daemonic emo shit but they mostly sing about hot chicks while keeping the daemonic vibe. A band from Finland who won the Eurovision in 2006.

Nickelback
No need for an explanation, they're that good.

Linkin Park
Always loved these guys, always will. Great sound, good variety and their songs always have an impact.

Korn
Sometimes when I'm really pissed or had a bad day, I listen to these guys. Somehow, for me, it relieves me of my anger and stress. An unorthodox rock band in my opinion but great still.

Justin Timberlake
Who said a guy who loves rock and Heavy Metal can't listen to heart warming songs? Great guy, everyone loves him, and it helps me pick up chicks.

1- Alexisonfire : Fell in love with that band after listening to ''Pulmonary Archery'' for the first time a couple years ago. It's been my favorite band ever since. I've seen them 7 times live, and can't wait to see them again. I've met some of the guys too. The band is simply amazing live, they sound MUCH better than on CD, and they can put up one hell of a show.

Album : Alexisonfire (Self-Titled)
Songs : Pulmonary Archery, Rough Hands

2- Coheed and Cambria : It took me a while to get used to Claudio's voice, but now, I fucking love it. Everything about this band is great. The lyrics are plain brillant, Claudio's voice is amazing, and they're are awesome musicians. Haven't seen them live yet, but I can't wait.

Album : In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth : Part 3
Songs : In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth : Part 3, Delirium Trigger, Mother Superior

3- AFI : Listened to some older stuff in High School and liked it, but nothing awesome. Listened to Sing the Sorrow, and got totally hooked. Then, listened to some other great older songs, and got hooker even more. I love Davey's voice. AFI is, or was, before Decemberunderground, a pretty unique band, with an awesome sound. It's still a great band, but it's a shame DU lacks the energy... or something I can't quite put my finger on, of Sing the Sorrow and Black Sails in the Sunset.

Albums : Sing the Sorrow, Black Sails in the Sunset
Songs : This Time Imperfect, Days of the Phoenix, The Prayer Position

4- Manowar : The Kings of Heavy Metal. They've been around since around '82, and still kick ass like they used to. Eric Adams, the singer, has an amazing range of vocals, and one hell of a voice. Joey DeMaio is probably one of the most amazing bass player I've ever seen. Some of their songs are Epic, and live versions are ten times better than CD versions. Hail Gods of War.

Album : Warriors of the World
Songs : Heart of Steel (Live), Swords in the Wind, Hail and Kill

5- Chiodos : That band took me some time to get used to, but I love them so much not. I enjoy every single song, and I listen to them pretty damn often. Can't wait to see them live.

Albums : All's Well That Ends Well, Bone Palace Ballet
Songs : Lindsay Quit Lollygagging, There are no Penguins in Alaska, Intensity in Ten Cities

Also, bands that I absolutely love, but that don't fit in my Top 5 : Three, The Blood Brothers, Guttural Secrete, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Enter Shikari, HORSE, The Band

Blink 182 is my favourite band of all time. I've loved them since I was about 6. That was even before I could understand what their lyrics meant. My fave song is Going Away To College.

Sum 41 is also a band I like. Basically I love heaps of punk rock bands. Fave song is My Direction.

Fall Out Boy have great lyrics and music. And guitar. Fave song would have to beCalm Before the Storm.

The Beatles. How can you not love them? I've never heard such great lyrics. Best songs for singing along to. Fave song is Lady Madonna.

The Living End because I can not stop doing air guitar to them. Fave song is One Said to the Other.

Top 5 Bands?

1. System of a Down
-Toxicity is one of the best rock albums ever, and I love how they mix so many different elements into their music. Daron Malakian (guitar) is really creative and Serj Tankian is amazing too (also in his solo efforts). The last two albums were kinda lackluster tho =/

2. Sublime
- Just all-around feel-good music that can pretty much pick u up at any time. Reggae, rock and a lil bit of ska. . . how can u go wrong?!

3. Rage Against the Machine
- First off, Tom Morrello is GOD. In my opinion, he is a hard guitarist to imitate (i play guitar, too) and is really pioneering and inventive. Also they have an edge that persists thru all of their albums that i love.

4. Pantera
-Gotta love Pantera. "Dimebag" Darell Abbott was one of the true guitar greats (r.i.p.). A good band to use for warmup music cuz they can get u pumped no matter what.

5. Soundgarden
- Wasnt planning on putting them on this list, but then i remembered how great their album Superunknown was. In my opinion it is the best true rock album EVER MADE.

1. Evanescence.
Amy Lee's voice is lovely, and she apparently writes all the lyrics. The music of Evanescence generally relates to my angsty self.

2. Breaking Benjamin
I love the angry lyrics that have just a slight bit of angst. My favorite album by them is "We Are Not Alone," which has rather angry sounding songs.

I don't know any other bands that I like.

Neurosis

Never before has a band's name fit its music so well. Neurosis's music seriosuly cannot be adequately described in words. They are some of the best musical composers out there that I have found. If there's anything one should look into from this band, it is their "ground-breaking" album Through Silver In Blood. This album solidifed their status as the forerunners of post-metal and one of the greatest sludge bands (if not one of the greatet bands period) out there. The album also has to be one of the most intense and immersive albums I have ever listened to. It is truly a masterful peice of work.

Top albums: Through Silver In Blood; Enemy of the Sun

godspeed you! black emperor

How could such a wondeful band fly so low under the radar!? One of the principle post-rock bands, gy!be combine elements of drone-doom, rock, classical, ambient, and jazz crafting vividly and beautifully immersive and incredibly atmospheric peices. Ranging from 9 - 20 members (depending on the album), g!be employ the skills of several guitarists, bassists, cellists, and violinists, sometimes accompanied by addition string and wind instruments. They're sound and composition is nealy impossible to rival.

Top albums: f#a# (inifinity); Yanqui U.X.O.

Mastodon

When Mastodon started off, they were a mixture of math-grind and sludge. over time, they refined their sound into much more prgresive, but no less technical, music. With some masterful guitar work and insanely good drumming (not to mention good vocals), this band quckly became one of my favorites.

Top albums: Remission; Leviathan

Cult of Luna

There is such a thing as relaxing metal, and it goes by the name of Cult of Luna. Well, their older stuff isn't very relaxing, but they're latest release Somewhere Along the Highway is just downright beautiful and relaxing. This band create very beatiful, almost natural, emotional soundscapes. They have minimal vocals, which are more often used as a separate "instrument". They have been very influential to the art/post-metal movement, and rightly so.

Top albums: Somewhere Along the Highway; The Beyond

As for my #5 slot, it's a tie between Enslaved (awesome black metal), Gojira (awesome death metal/mathcore), and Dirge (awesome doom metal/drone). I'll have to get back to you guys on this one.

Blink-182- They're mainstream, but they're so good. Awesome to play on the guitar as well.
Brighteyes- Really great band that doesn't try to be great. Powerful lyrics and a very stylistic way of composing.
NOFX- Much like Blink, they are one of the few bands that are consistently good. You listen to every song on the album, instead of just one or two of your favorites. They also have the ability to diversify their sound.
Social Distortion- I've loved them since I was a little kid with "Ball and Chain" I adore the sound and they're one of a few punk bands that factor uplifting lyrics into their music. Think "Reach for the Sky"
Matt Costa- An actual musical genius, his talent for music translates into his simple melodies and contagious beats.

DarkEternalTyker
06-06-2008, 7:06 PM
Muse- Ok, they're all over the place but they probably are my favorite band of the moment. From Showbiz to Black Holes And Revelations I have heard nothing but greatness. Also, after getting past Matt Bellamy(the guitar, his lyrics and his singing) you notice that Chris and Dom are amazing at their instruments! I start noticing how intricate the drumming is, and then fall in love with them again.

Album: Origin Of Symmetry

Dream Theater- So, its prog snobbery at it's finest, but I love musical quality of this band. Especially the early stuff, when they didn't fall back on guitar/keyboard solo wanking.

Album: Awake

Opeth- My favorite metal band of the moment. I rarely listen to Death Metal vocals, but I love it here! The blend of soft and brutal always makes me happy. Watershed did not dissapoint!

Album: Still Life

The Decemberists- I recently got turned on to these guys and I'm stuck ever since. Colin's storytelling is awesome(Mariner's Revenge Song anyone?) I love his voice, and really dig the music.

Album: The Crane Wife

The Mars Volta- A band I've loved forever! The mix of punk with prog and the latin influences, makes for one hell of a trip. I love Cedric's voice, and you can always get into a groove when listening to them. The Bedlam In Goliath is so immense, I'm just now really understanding it.

Album: Frances The Mute

Favorite band of all time is The Beatles, but I can really only do a 'current top 5' right now.

REM: they're from my hometown and they're songs always make me in a good mood

Thousand Foot Krutch: I own all their albums and they haven't made a song I dont like

T.I: My alltime favorite rapper, for no other reason than his flow and attitude

Muse: I like the singer's voice, and I like the blend of music styles. My favorite album is "Absolution"

System of a Down: My first album was "Toxicity" and I fell in love with them after that. I liked some of the stuff from their first self-titled album, and I also liked some of the stuff from their future albums (even "Steal This Album!"), but none of them really came as good for me as "Toxicity"...

TooL: I sometimes don't like the smugness that surrounds the band members and their fans, but I really loved "AEnima" (can't do the symbol), and after a few listens I liked "Undertow". I never really got into "Lateralus" though =/ I like "Parabola", but the other tracks didn't really hit the right spot for me. I loved "10,000" days, including both the album and the song.

Jedi Mind Tricks: Only albums I like are "Violent By Design" and "The Psycho-Social..." =/ so maybe this really doesn't belong here, but oh well.

Kano Youko: I love her sound tracks. Especially from the Ghost in the Shell series, but also from "Cowboy Bebop".

Origa: As a result of her singles with Mrs. Kano, I like her. Her own albums themselves are actually decent, but I never really took the time to listen to them.

Keane: I was disappointed with their first album, which I got when I heard the single. Not because the songs were bad, but because they all sounded the same. However I loved "Under the Iron Sea", and the variety and sound it had.

Nobuo Uematsu: Love the sound tracks, and although I never got anywhere close to finishing FFIV, I loved "Aria di Mezzo Carattere".

Ok, then:

1.Radiohead - Consistent brilliance on an unparallelled scale. From The Bends onwards, anyway. I can't really put, in words anyway, how much I adore this band. Sometimes I listen from the start of The Bends through to the end of In Rainbows and just revel in the amazing musicianship, lyrical stylings and, this I think is most important, the atmosphere the music creates. Everything is so different, not like those copy+paste bands that chrun out album after album of the same bland, repetitive tripe. But I can't apologise for the mainstream. However that is irrelevant; what is relevant is that I don't know of any other band that can simultaneously lift me out of a funk and smother me in it. There There, Street Spirit, Reckoner are just few of many favourites.
2. Neutral Milk Hotel - Ok, so I really don't like On Avery Island, but In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is another strange one, in that I find it both uplifting and depressing. I mean, there have been albums written on drugs, and lots of them, but this one is in a similar vein but this poor guy was just messed in the head. Jeff Mangum knows how to write a song. I don't think I'll ever hear a better song than Oh Comely.
3. Arcade Fire - Yeah, so they've only released two albums so far, but most bands don't even have a scratch on the material these guys have churned out. Just lovely, emotional music - I would find it hard not to love. 'Wake Up' has to be my favourite song of theirs.
4. The Dodos - Their second release under this moniker, it's an amalgamation of alternately tuned, breakneck strumming, boyish, charming vocals and prog-rock and Afro-tinged drums. It just leads to what I suppose you could call alternative, at times progressive, folk punk? All I know is that it works for me and creates a very warm, welcoming record and one of my frontrunners for album of 2008.
5. Fleet Foxes - Think 'Pet Sounds' Beach Boys, Crosby Stills & Nash and a whole lot more all combined into one. It's a strange sound to describe, because it so clearly borrows from so many places but doesn't actually sound like any of them. It's a fairly unique sound; blissful harmonies, beautiful guitar, all kept carefully in check by obvious but not ostentatious drums. I can't get enough of it at this point in time, since it's winter here it's so good for that (see: track, White Winter Hymnal). Favourite song is probably He Doesn't Know Why.

Honourable mentions to:
Bon Iver (companion album to Fleet Foxes?), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Architecture in Helsinki, Interpol, Tegan & Sara, Regina Spektor, among others.

Primus - The reason i continued playing Bass after Jazz Band. Not just good Bass, and weird vocals, but every musician that has played with them kicks ass.

Pantera- Cowboys from hell and later. I knew them back in Texas. When I was in high school, Vinnie used to let me sneak into clubs they played at by carrying his gear. Then they hit big. I still got to hang with them a little when they were in town, but I was one of thousands trying to do the same thing. Just watching them play and interact changed my musical outlook. Phil was and still is an asshole.

Pink Floyd - Brought me out of my up tight musical views as a kid. Up until I was about 8, all I would listen to was Gospel, Jazz and Classical. Claire Torrey's vocal solo on the "Great Gig In The Sky" was playing on one of my freind's mom's record player. That changed everything for me as far as music.

Tool - Dark, Melodic, angry, weird. Excellent for the weight bench.

Slayer - My first real metal concert back in 87 or 88. I have been hooked since.

After Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool, it become a revolving door for the other three slots. Currently, the list is...

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Ultra fucking fun music. And when it's not fun music, it's usually quite beautiful music. The only albums I'm missing from them are their first (self-titled), which is impossible to find, and Uplift Mofo Party Plan, which I plan on picking up next week when I get my paycheck, since I finally found a copy at a local record store and got the guy to hold it for me. I've been listening to the Chili Peppers since I was 9, right as Californication was about to be released.

Tool
I just really love their music. Though pretentious at times, it really is, for the most part, beautiful in the darkest sense of the term. They are quite original and have never made the same album twice.

The Beatles
Of course, probably the best band to ever exist. They have so much variety in their music that it's almost impossible to not find something you like amidst their 12 album catalog.

The Offspring
The new album, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace has brought me back to listening to their stuff a lot, and really it's all astounding. Even when you get into the stupid stuff like "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" and "Why Don't You Get a Job?" it's still ultra-diggable and ultra-fun to listen to. Except Conspiracy of One, really, which was just kind of a rehash of Americana with only boring tracks.

Parliament
George Clinton is the fucking King of Funk. I love everything they've ever done, especially The Mothership Connection and most especially Up for the Down Stroke.

Grateful Dead: One of the most talented bands of all time in my opinion as well as one of the best. I have a lot of stuff that fits here but isn't Dead, like RatDog, JGB, Jerry and Grisman, and others.

Jethro Tull

Are you 52 and own too much denim?

Bad Religion - Some of the best Punk out there for almost thirty years now.
Iggy Pop - The Godfather of Punk Rock
Television - Some really cool shit. Outstanding 70s band that really influenced a lot of later Alternative/Punk
Joy Division - I watched the movie Control a couple of weeks ago. It really got me listening to some of their stuff again. Great Post Punk band.
Fugazi - One of the coolest bands ever. Ian Mackaye gets better with age. Minor Threat,Embrace,Teen Idles,Rites of Spring(Guy Picciotto's other band), its all good stuff.

Been listening to Gang of Four, The Minutemen, Bauhaus, The Velvet Underground and some REM a lot lately. My list would change all the time. This is just off the top of my head tonight.

Megadeth

Been a fan for years, love Dave Mustaine's rhythm technique, he picks good guitarists to play for him and his voice is just classic. My all time favourite. First heard of them in Germany and last year I managed to see them, after queuing up for over 4 hours in the rain in East London.

My Last Words - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? (1986)

Black Sabbath

Mob Rules got me into metal - enough said. Prefer the Dio era to the Ozzy era, but they are both great singers and the Heaven and Hell tour shows they still have it.

Turn Up The Night - Mob Rules (1981)

Municipal Waste

Awesome - seen them three times in the UK, good show, awesome thrash. Singing about getting drunk, smoking weed and having a good time are common themes, and just overall a feel good band showing fantastic energy and aggression. I found them myself which i am quite proud of
<-----

Sadistic Magician - The Art of Partying (2007)

Firewind

Power Metal has been a favourite of mine and this band is one of the best in my opinion. Gus G. is an amazing guitarist but have talent across the board. Heard of them through Total Guitar and have not looked back since since i bought Alleigance.

Insanity - Alliegance (2006)

Spunge

Midlands Ska? yes, and they are lovely people too. Seen them play at my hometown as well as London and Brighton, and met them every time. Even made my own banner for them. Ska and Thrash make me happy, and Spunge do the job nicely.

All Gone Wrong - Room For Abuse (2000)

Not that its really worth it though, it has the shittiest sound quality I've ever heard.

Pink Floyd I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since I can remember. As a child I used to sleep to Pink Floyd because my father is a big fan too, and he owned all the vinil and cassettes because he co-owned a Radio Station. I enjoy all of their albums, and just listening to them soothes me. I've learned most of the lyrics and they all have a different meaning.

AC/DC This band has a totally different style than Pink Floyd. I like their songs despite that most of them use the same three chords. Angus Young really knows how to make that guitar scream.

Led Zeppelin Their music is more trippy. I started liking them when I fell in love with Stairway To Heaven as a child, I asked my dad for some songs and I listened to them until the tapes unraveled.

The Beatles You can't think of music without thinking about The Beatles. Their music has such a distinctive style, mixing trippy tunes and lyrics with rock and roll.

Liquid Tension Experiment What can I say about this band? Their never lasting solos and lack of lyrics is what I like most about them.

Yeah, it's absolutely nowhere here. Not even Best Buy. I did hear that it isn't really something astounding, so I haven't really sought after it on the internet or anything.

Five is way too few...but I'll manage.

5. Electric Wizard- These guys are just crushing stoner doom metal. Dopethrone has to be a modern classic. Not that these guys haven't released anything else great. We Live and Come My Fanatics... are also unique and extremely heavy.

4. Therion- Symphonic metal? Hell's yeah. Therion is probably a one of a kind metal band, incorporating orchestras and opera singers into all of their songs. Starting out as a Scandinavian Death Metal band, these guys have evolved.

3. Death- What genre, you're asking? Death metal, of course! The first proper death metal band, with their seminal Scream Bloody Gore. Chuck Shuldiner>Chuck Norris. Human was another revolutionary work, completely reworking their lyrical themes into something more philosophical and making themselves progressive.

2. Black Sabbath- Probably one of the first actual heavy metal bands. Ozzy is a metal master. The first three albums are just pure gold, and excellent prototype doom. However one of the main highlights is Heaven and Hell, with Ronnie James Dio, another amazing vocalist, with power in his voice.

1. Bathory- Quorthon (Rest in Peace) is just a god. Bathory is an excellent first wave black metal/viking metal band that is way advanced for its time. Good ol' classics like Hammerheart, Blood Fire Death, and Under the Sign of the Black Mark just make him the master of black metal.

Alexisonfire - I love this band so much, I got them inked on my back ( with meaning besides just my love for the band). I've seen them about 15 times.

Deftones - They'll most likely be the next tattoo I get. Each album has a different mood, sound, and atmosphere. Chino's voice couldn't be better for the music it falls back on. It can be soft and soothing or flat out violent. They have a Dj but it works perfectly for them. Their cover songs fit their own sound either adding a creepy, dark, or violent tone to the original. A string quartet has a tribute album which shows the beauty to their brutalty. Seen them 5 times.

Smashing Pumpkins - Billy never gives up and he changes the sound. He has been the one pushing the band towards new ideas (having P.Diddy as a producer, layering guitar track over each other a bunch of time to get a super heavy sound). Their music makes me feel like I have a lump in my throat..overwhelming at times.

The Hives - Their early punk stuff was awesome and since then they have changed but the music is still totaly in your face.

Brand New - Their latest album was their best. If lyrics could kill their lyrics could. Such a great way with words and the music is just as awesome.

Sigur Ros - I've been brought to tears listening to their music and got that lump in my throat feeling.

Cancer Bats -I know I'm way over the limit here but I'm to much of a music freak to stop at 5. These guys are just AH Hardcore and have this Southern sound thats ferce. They are also really nice (I was at their video shoot/ in their video) and they thanks all of the fans for coming out and made it a point to thank everyone personaly for coming out.

1.Nas-Best rapper of all time and my favorite artist of any genre. I think everyone should give his stuff a spin at least once.

2.Pizzicato Five-A Japanese band that I absolutely love! Maki Namiya is a goddess to me, and I cant describe how many times thier songs have lifted my mood.

3.Pink Floyd-I dont think I can say anything that hasnt already been said about Pink Floyd. See you on the darkside of the moon.

4.N.E.R.D-might seem random but Fly or Die's one of my favorite albums by a very unique group.

5.Flow-another Japanese group. I'm not an expert on their discography but I've loved pretty much everything I've heard from them.

Blue Oyster Cult
Best rock band ever. Good song writing, catchy tunes, superb guitar and an excellent voice.

Led Zeppelin
Best guitar out of all these bands. The voice is pretty good, too.

Kansas
Excellent song writting. Great voice. The guitar is pretty good. But some of their songs are kinda boring. However, "Carry On Wayward Son" is one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion.

Kiss
These guys are freakin' party animals! Yet sometimes to a disturbing limit, though. Great guitar, good voice, cathy tunes.

Judas Priest
Awesome and heavy sound which kicks butt to the core. Great voice and a superb guitar, this band has the guts.

EDIT: I changed michael jackson to judas priest

This is tough...

Faith No More: Since Patton got on board, they continually rolled out quality rock/alternative albums. Pretty much everything they did kicks arse.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers: More of the same, but with a slight (ever so slight) twist of funk in there. Quality stuff right across the discography.

Cemetary: Look, not every one of their albums is great, but fuck An Evil Shade of Grey is the best death metal album of all time. Heavy as hell but rocks like a bitch.

Nightingale: Dan Swano is a fucking genius, that's why. His music and his lyrics can cut you to the fucking bone one minute, then he's punching your socks off the next. I could make sweet, sweet love to Breathing Shadow.

Katatonia: I don't like all their shit (Viva Emptiness sucks fucking arse!) but shit like Discouraged Ones and Great Cold Distance....fuck, there's semen all over the inside of my undies.

Metallica: It's all so great; the solos, the lyrics, the guitars, the vocals. I have 10 metallica albums, listen to at least one a day. They have songs for every mood

System of a Down: I love their angry/crazy music. And I actually get their politics. I always get in a better mood when I listen to Prison Song, Chop Suey, Forest, B.Y.O.B, Cigaro and Deer Dance

Red Hot Chili Peppers: one of the greatest bands ever, it's all so good. So catchy songs and such good rythm. The songs are so full og meaning and emotion, I can't help but fall in love with them

The Killers: I love the way they kinda stand out with their lyrics and music. They might not seeme so different to other people, but there is just something about them I love

Nightwish: I like the new girl. The old Nightwish was always a little too opera for me. The new Nightwish have such good songs, so much power, and the other band members have more freedom, I just think the band is better now

My Chemical Romance - first and foremost. Have loved them since I first saw "I'm Not Okay" on a music channel. Bought the CD as soon as it came out. Love the sound, the lyrics, their performance. I saw them live last December. Best night of my life <3 Just fantastic. Favourite band.

Queen - I grew up to these guys. So many classics, great sounds. Have a few I can't stand, but still fuckin awesome

Take That - I guess I was too young to know their early stuff except Back For Good. But I love their new stuff! Beautiful lyrics and sounds. And they sure know how to put on a show!

Kings Of Leon - Still working on whether I really like them or just a few songs. I'm horrible like that. I buy an album and just don't listen to it.

Flight of the Conchords - Need they be explained?! They are fantastic. They from me hometown <3

Jesterhead
07-06-2008, 10:00 AM
Right my top 5 look like this.

In Flames.
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1990 - present
I can't imagine better music. Especially the old albums from 1996 -2000. Don't like Lunar Strain that much, allso because of the poor quality of the recording.
The duel leads is so insane. It's so well composed that I can't really understand it. And i tell you! They're a force to be rekoned with live! They had their dark period though, from 2002 - 2006 with only few mindblowing tracks such as My Sweet Shadow, Cloud Connected, Vacuum, Evil in a Closet etc. But their new album is actually very good. I compare it to Clay Man. Not much variety yet all the tracks are very good. But the albums is decent.
I'm not a fanboy if you ask. Listen to Superhero of the Computer Rage, Scream, god these is really really just something which bugs me. It just sucks. It can be classified as some of the greatest garbage in the metal scene of all time >_>
My favourite band of all time! Jesterhead till i die, In Flames we trust!

Favourite track: Might be Moonshield, but diffcult choice.
Favourite album: The Jester Race

Amon Amarth.
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1992 - present. (As scum 1988 - 1992)
Want me to give an explanation? These guys is so fucking cool. They know how to make seductive riffs, with only a few chords. Brutal melo death! And allso a good live band.

Favourite track: Think it's Death in Fire
Favourite album: With Odin On Our Side

Soilwork.
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1996 - present
Very good band, with catchy choruses. Yea it's wierd, but they know how to make choruses, it's wierd, it's normally the best part of their songs, with exeptitions though. And allso live they're very good.

Favourite track: As We Speak
Favourite album: Natural Born Chaos

Sabaton
Genre: Power Metal
Years active: 1999 - present
I dicovered this band recently but they're very good. The slow tempo in some songs can sometimes become a lil boring while in other cases can be very comforting. The vocalist is awesome to listen to, but they suck at making solos.

Favourite track: Primo Victoria
Favourite album: Attero Dominatus

Iron Maiden
Genre: Heavy Metal
Yeas active: 1975 - present
I have a hard time describing, but the name speaks for it self doesn't it? Allso i like growling vocals more. The oldies would have a greater chance with me if they used it, even though In Flames old works out match the guitars here by far.

Favourite track: Wasted Years
Favourite album: Killers

How it looks at the moment. It may change but In Flames and Amon Amarth will stay in their positions. I can't imagine any bands better, but i have yet to dicover. Some bands make a quick impact but fade after a while, such is the fate of Vader.

Thrice
I've always liked them a lot. Just recently I went to their concert at the Metro in Chicago for their new Alchemy albums. It was quite the show. The Artist in the Ambulance CD is my favorite Thrice album.

Incubus
Their music is just relaxing. Make Yourself was my favorite album however Morning View was also fun to listen to.

The Doors
Jim Morrison had a great voice. The Doors is definitely always going to be one of my favorite bands. "Riders on the Storm" is my favorite song. Its always a fun song to play.

Stone Temple Pilots
Scott Weiland has a great voice. After seeing all the videos on YouTube from their concert at Rolling Rock, it just makes me want to go see them live even more.

Turbonegro (?)
There are many other bands that should probably taking the place of Turbonegro here, but I just happened to get to the bottom of my windows media player. "The Age of Pamparius" is a great song. gonna bake a motherfucking pizza tonight

Other bands that should definitely be on here are Velvet Revolver, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Anti-Flag, Lucky Boys Confusion, Disturbed, and Nirvana.

1.Metallica - I don't care what you think, those guys are gods.

2.Slayer - Thrash at it's best.

3.Disturbed - Might be mainstream but Dan Donegan is one of the best up and coming guitarists.

4.Sex Chocolate - My friend's band, they do covers and are in recording of their first album.

5Led Zeppelin - The biggest influences of rock today, they influenced me to learn to play guitar.

Honorable mentions:
Motley Crue, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Carcass

these aren't exactly my favorites, just the first that came to mind.

My favorites are:

1. Iron Savior - These guys are amazing, German Power metal, with a flair for songs built around sci fi Fantasy, and even video game playing.. The guitar work is amazing.

2. Kamelot - Greg Kahn has a voice that could be operatic (is that a word?), Again, very advance metal, with greats like the Bathory trilogy, March of Mephisto ( with the lead singer of Dimmu)

3. Judas Priest - A true Juggernaut, glad to see Halford back in the fold. Was missing the feel when he was gone. Also a major influence for #1, I think.

4. Iron Maiden - Another Juggernaut, best heard with Bruce singing, he was the best.

5. Frank Zappa/ The Mothers of Invention - He , is by far, the best musician who has ever lived. Anything from jazz, to proto metal, to funk. Humorous (Joe's Garage acts I,II,III) to almost prophetic ( I'm the Slime). Also great stoner music. Tho I am not doing that as much in my old age.

Honourable mentions:

Jethro Tull
Pink Floyd (Post Sid) Meddle and up.
Anvil (Heavy Canuck Metal)
Black Sabbath
Motorhead (Serial Killer!)
AC/DC Bon Scott 4ever

My favourite bands...That shouldn't be too hard for me. ;P

Guns N Roses~ I have always been a big rock fan. Guns N Roses must be at the top of the list. Slash...Slash is amazing. Axl was commented about by someone, and I think it was something along the lines of, "I think Axl Rose is channeling Paul McCartney." But, still, Slash is awesome. *w* Song: November Rain

Sixx: AM~ A fairly new band, but still pretty awesome. Nikki does the most awesome bass line. I still don't like him as much as I like Slash though. OCD, man, OCD... ;P Song: Courtesy Call

Rainbow~ No, they're not gay...I promise you that. Rainbow is hard to find these days, but their songs are really well done. "Stone Cold" was among my favourites...

Velvet Revolver~ Velvet Revolver is awesome. Slash was in VLVTRVLVR for awhile. They play good songs, and "Slither" is also among my favourites. *starts humming lyrics*

Goo Goo Dolls~ Dear God, I thought they were a pop band when I first heard the name. They're not. They are actually a rock band, and they vary between atual rock and...soft rock, whatever you would call it. Song: Iris

So, these are my favourite bands. They kick butt!
Loden :3

Honourable Mentions:

Motley Crue (Saints of Los Angeles, Dr. Feelgood...)
Led Zepplin (Kashmir, White Room ((I believe))...)
AC/DC (Angus Young...I named one of my bettas after you. xD)
The Who (Who Are You...rockin' CSI: theme)
Groove Coverage (Little June...Piano Ballad Version of Moonlight Shadow)
DDR (Butterfly)
Akeboshi (Yellow Moon, Wind)

My favorites are:

1. Iron Savior - These guys are amazing, German Power metal, with a flair for songs built around sci fi Fantasy, and even video game playing.. The guitar work is amazing.

2. Kamelot - Greg Kahn has a voice that could be operatic (is that a word?), Again, very advance metal, with greats like the Bathory trilogy, March of Mephisto ( with the lead singer of Dimmu)

Isn't it Roy Khan?
Was going to say this.. it most certainly is. He's also a trained opera singer, so that's why his voice "could be operatic"

Anyways, my current top five, let's see.

1. Therapy? - Hasn't stepped down from number one for a bit now. All around great songwriting and lyrics, along with somewhat of a variation from one album to the next drawing from rock, punk and metal. Their peak was reached in 1994 and 1995 with Troublegum and Infernal Love which, although it is easily my favorite album, cast them out of the spotlight and wasn't well accepted.

2. Tom Waits - Admittedly, I haven't traversed his entire massive discography, but everything I've heard ranges from great to fucking fantastic. Closing Time and Rain Dogs are phenomenal. The other albums I've had the pleasure of hearing are Swordfishtrombones, Alice and Bone Machine.

3. Bathory - Consistently great artist with one or two exceptions. Not much else to say, lyrics can be cheesy at times but it's easily made up for by the music. Quorthon's imperfect vocals add a lot to the music, I find.

4. Weezer - They easily have the potential to top my list; if only their entire discography would more closely resemble The Blue Album and Pinkerton. Yes, it's a very cliche complaint but it's so common for a reason. Songs like The World Has Turned and Left Me Here, I Just Threw Out The Love of My Dreams, The Good Life, Why Bother? and Butterfly are perfect examples of why I love Weezer. Red Album was at least decent.

5.Jeff Buckley - Say what you may, the fact that he's dead does not mean he makes fantastic music. The fact that he makes fantastic music means that he makes fantastic music. He put great emotion into his songs, many of the tracks on Grace have brought me to tears at least once. Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk was a different direction from Grace but it still has a great track list.

Other contenders where The Wildhearts, The Cure, Air, Joy Division, Fugazi and Elvis Costello.

Here's mine today, in no order:

The Eagles

Easily awesome for their hits like Hotel California, Take it Easy, and Witchy Woman.

The Beatles

Any sane and/or sensible person will find the Beatles interesting, at least.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I was totally psyched when they did the Super Bowl halftime. However, they sound a lot better when they were twenty, which I have the CD of.

Paul Simon

He's just really, really awesome. There's not much I can say on that point.

Nirvana
They don't do the best songs, and yeah, Kurt Kobain is dead, but I am intrigued by them.

Ozzy Osbourne- Discovering his band was the greatest day of my life. Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitarist and is one of the reasons I play guitar. My favorite song is Crazy Train.

Quiet Riot- Metal Health was the first real rock/metal song I really loved. The first time I heard it was on the Legends Of Wrestling videogame on the PS2. I memorized the lyrics. I have the RR Years Album from them, which is great. My favorite song by them is either Metal Health or Trouble.

Iron Maiden- Great, great metal band. I saw them recently in concert. Was the best show of my life. Dave Murrey and Adrian Smith are 2 really great guitar players. Paul Diano was a great singer. Bruce Dickinson is great too. Their onstage preformance was amazing. My favorite song by them is The Number Of The Beast.

Guns N' Roses- The first time I heard them was Welcome To The Jungle. Slash is a great and guitarist. To me, Axl Rose is the greatest frontman of all Time. I can't wait for Chinese Democracy to come out.My favorite song by them is Welcome To the Jungle.

AC/DC Who doesn't love AC/DC? Highway to Hell and Let There Be Rock are my two favorite songs from them. Angus Young is a great player. Bon Scott was another great Rock frontman.

The Arrogant Sons of Bitches - not only the best skacore band out there, Three Cheers for dissapointment is also the best 3rd wave ska record ever created. Also, everything Jeff Rosenstock touches turns to gold (Bomb the Music Industry!, Pegasuses XL)
Bomb the Music Industry! - Get Warmer changed my life, also see ASOB

Muse - I think they will always be my favourite band. It's just something about them, i don't know what, but i love everything they have produced. Amazingly talented musicians combine to create something wonderful and beautiful.
The Devil Wears Prada - These guys are everything i would want for the perfect Hardcore/Metal band. Seeing them live was the best night of my life, and i don't think i will attend a better gig in the near future.
A Day To Remember - A great band full of pop-punk chorus' and harcdore breakdowns, very good live also.
Sum 41 - I've loved them since i was 9, and seeing them earlier this year was amazing. Simply brilliant band.
Underoath - Amazing band with great heavy parts and also really nice quiet bits.

Yeah i kind of trailed off for the last few band but whatever :).

Bands that deserve a mention: Sigur Ros, Here I Come Falling, Emmure, Allstationsdown.

Alkaline Trio
Their catchy tunes and dark lyrics always draw me in. Listen to Dead End Road and you'll see what I mean. Matt and Dan have two of the best voices out there, in my opinion.

Rise Against
They've got an awesome sound. Swing Life Away is one of my all-time favourite songs.

NoFX
Hahaha... some of the cleverest lyrics I've ever heard. Idiots Are Taking Over still manages to bring a smile to my face, even though I've heard it over and over again.

No Use For A Name
Haha, I like their stuff after the first or second album. Amazing sound, good lyrics, nice riffs. Let Me Down and Nailed Shut Box are two of my favourites from them.

Blink-182
Haha. I actually think Blink were one of the best bands out there. They didn't care what they sung about, which inspired me to write a song on the topic of incest. Just need to get a band together, now...

Weezer- I used to hate them, but they're too damn catchy. Fav. Song- Say It Ain't So

Pressure Boys- Chapel Hill ska band, that I'm pretty sure nobody else has ever heard of...

System of a Down/Serj Tankian- Steal This Album is a particular favorite. Fav. Song- Soldier Side

metallica - they are the best band you will ever see in concert.

Here are mine then.

1. The Flaming Lips

Genre: Art-Rock/Experimental Rock

There are so many reasons why I love them. For one, they are what really got me hooked on finding new and interesting music. They have twelve studio albums out, yes twelve, and every single damn one is completely different than the last. They push the limits of their creativity with every new release. And they have not once (except for maybe their last album) compromised any of their artistic merit. I say not the last album because it was terribly mastered to appeal to people who like shit sound quality (the general populace of iPod owners).

2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Genre: Post-Rock/Avant-Garde

F♯A♯∞ alone is worth the second spot on my list. They were a 9 piece band I believe, and their songs are 10-20 minutes long usually. They do not use any kind of sung vocals, the only vocals are from short recorded spoken interludes taken from various sources. You really have to listen to them to "get" them, and really listen to them. This is one of those "artsy" bands where you actually have to pay attention to the music.

3. Neutral Milk Hotel

Genre: Indie Rock/Alternative Rock

Neutral Milk Hotel are without a doubt like nothing else you will ever hear on this earth. Jeff Mangum has a very unique singing voice, not "unique" in the bad sense. Unique in the sense that there isn't another human being who can sing like that. The actual music is quite lo-fi, with lots of acoustic guitar, trumpets, typical drumming with heavy use of the cymbals, and something else I can't quite put my finger on. Their second album, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is a masterpiece in my opinion.

4. Opeth

Genre: Progressive Rock/Metal/Jazz

I'll probably catch a bit of flak from some people for stating this one. ;) But I love them, I think they're all extremely talented musicians. I personally, can't get enough of their songs. They have very "stoner-esque" guitar riffs, lots of repetition in the heavy parts. But that's what I enjoy about them. The soft proggier and jazzier parts are very good too. I just love the fusions of different genres in this band. Plus Mikael is a hilarious guy when he talks on stage.

5. Pearl Jam

I may not be able to stand any of the bands that spawned from them (Nickelback). But Pearl Jam themselves have a massive amount of material to listen to. Lots of great stuff. I like listening to their older b-sides and early live material especially. Eddie puts a lot of emotion into his singing without sounding angsty, which is nice. And guitarist Mike McCready writes some really interesting guitar pieces, albeit not extremely experimental or technical.

1 - MF Doom. , anyone who's not familiar with his stuff, check it out. It's underground hip-hop but even if your not into hip-hop you should give it a spin. My reccomended album is Mm...Food.

2 - Madvillain - A collaboration with Doom and Madlib, the album Madvillainy is on another planet as far as genre and lyrics go.

3 - Cold War Kids - The soul and passion these guys put into their songs is amazing, really good listening on a good summers day chilling with a pint.

4 - Kings of Leon - Probably seen as a bit mainstream now but they're still superb, the first album Youth & Young Manhood is a must for anyone wanting to expirement with a new kind of rock.

5 - I was going to say N*E*R*D or Rage against the Machine here....but Led Zeppelin have to be represented, the pinnacle of rock in my opinion.

No particulair order..

Green Day
My favorite band. I pretty much like all their songs, and they were one of the first bands I actually started listening to. I haven't listened to their old music so much, but I'll do it eventually. I saw their dvd "Bullet In A Bible", and I've wanted to find a concert with them ever since.
Favorite Song: Basket Case or Minority

36 Crazyfists
Introduced to me by a friend a few months ago, and I absolutely love the vocals when it's not too "screamo".

Evanescence
The voice of Amy Lee is just amazing! The lyrics are great aswell.

Dark Tranquillity - Is and will always be my favorite band. They've been going strong for 20 years now and their musicianship inspires me.

Insomnium - Insomnium is band worth mentioning whenever I can. Their lyrics alone are enough to keep me hooked, not to mention the insanely catchy tunes.

Heaven Shall Burn - Not really much to say about these guys, other than the fact that I can't get enough of their music.

In Flames - Oh no, he said In Flames! Their music has gone downhill, even in my eyes (and ears), but I still love their music. Even though their newest album did suck a big one.

Machinemade God - A load of catchy songs that never leave the player.

A runner up would be Chromium, a fairly unknown band out of South Africa that I'm damn glad I stumbled upon last year sometime. Probably some of the more unique Metal that I've heard, and love.

Eppu Normaali - Finnish AOR-band, you don't know this one but it's really good and has helped me to go on with my life.

Nightwish - Another Finnish band, but sings in English so you might know it. First metal band I ever listened to, and I'm actually listening to it right now. I really hate the new singer (not the least 'cause she's Swedish :D) and still hope they could somehow get Tarja Turunen back.

Iron Maiden - Just pure greatness. Seriously.

Kotiteollisuus - So... Another Finnish band. ... Yeah.

Kolmas Nainen - Finnish... AOR... ... Fu*k this...

Aah!

Queens of the Stone Age - Well, the only thing I can say is that for a year and a half the only band i did listen to was Queens. Occasionally the theme from Super Mario Bros.

Monster Magnet - You never get tired of these guys, every album they've made rock - all the way from Superjudge to 4-Way Diablo.

Nick Cave (everywhere he goes) - The modern Bill Blake, just add rock guitars and heorine!

Kyuss - Boogie monsters from the dustiest parts of Palm Desert, U.S. Out of this world.

Tool - Hmm, can only come up with 5 reasons to listen to Tool. And they are: Undertow, Opiate, Ænima, Lateralus and 10.000 Days.

Dammit! Can I only mention 5?

I'm more into mainstream stuff. Lame, I know.

No particular order:

Alkaline Trio - Love the lyrics and melodies of most of their songs. Their new album Agony & Irony is amazing. In Vein, Help Me, Calling All Skeletons(all from A&I), One Hundred Stories(a bit older)

Paramore - Yes, Paramore. I've come to realize their stuff is pretty generic, but when I first heard them I didn't know better. The music has just stuck with me. Yes, I'm a dude. Hayley Williams is hot. Pressure

Incubus - Love them. The music is so weird sometimes, a good weird. A lot of their songs contain subtle messages. Or not so-subtle inuendos, like in: Here In My Room

Audioslave - Chris Cornell has that powerful man-voice that I kind of wish I had. Good stuff. Original Fire, Like A Stone

I couldn't really think of a 5th band that I wanted to list here. I listen to a lot of different genres of music, and besides those 4 bands I mostly just listen to single songs by any band that I like.

Fluzz

AC/DC - They never wrote emotional lyrics but they rocked harder then any band out there. They went through the death of a singer and Angus is the best rock guitarist of all time.
Pink Floyd - The best progressive rock band. Ever. The wall was a masterpiece both the album and movie and the mysterious lyrics and sounds were never compromised album after album.
The Beatles - I don't need to explain myself here. I don't need to tell you the impact they had or tell all the hits they produced, they were absolute musical geniuses.
Iron Maiden - I was never too much into hard metal, these guys themeselves are not heavy and I thank them for that because they are truely the most outstanding, creative metal bands I've ever heard.
Rory Gallagher - Probably never heard of him but In my opinion (and many other musicians including Slash, Clapton, Brian May, and The edge) possibly the best rock/ blues guitarist ever to walk this earth. R.I.P Rory.

Metallica - The first metal band I discovered. Metallica introduced me to old rock and metal. They were also the first band I saw live and it was amazing, regardless of what James' voice has become over the years. Classics remain classics.

Iron Maiden - I discovered that band shortly after Metallica and was really impressed by them. So many good songs with a true old heavy metal sound. Also the best band I've ever seen on a stage.

Pink Floyd - I found it a bit weird the first time I listened to a Floyd song, but then I discovered more songs and I literally entered a whole new world within my own mind, that could be created only with music and weird sounds. One night, after having smoked, I re-visited that world and it was all new again. Same thing with E. Everytime I listen to Floyd it's a new trip inside my head. I don't just listen to Pink Floyd's music, I become the music. I see it, I feel it. It's that amazing.

Slayer - One of my favourite metal band of all time. When I'm in the mood for some goold old thrash metal music, I listen to Slayer. They have some badass, catchy riffs and they make you want to simply headbang and jump in the mosh pit anytime. They're still fucking metal on stage. You can see that they enjoy their music as much as the fans do. I love them !

The Beatles - I've known a few songs since a long time ago, but I recently started giving other songs more attention and I must say that I really love their music. You can pretty much listen to them anytime of the day, happy or sad. There's always going to be a song that "fits" you. Very relaxing.

Rancid
I just dig how real they are about things. It's all easy to relate to, for me at least. And, in my humble opinion, the absolute best stoner music.
Favorite song: Roots Radicals

The Beatles
How can you not love the fucking Beatles? Seriously.
Favorite song: She Loves You

Jethro Tull
All-around amazing talent in this band. Psychedelic, yet still great in sobriety. Plus, Ian Anderson made the flute bad ass.
Favorite song: Locomotive Breath

The Mountain Goats.
EEEEEEEEEEMMMOOOOO!!!!
But nonetheless, a batch of muffins made of catchy rhythms and freshly picked lyrical genius.
Favorite song: Broom People

Michael Buble
Yeah, He was way better than Frank Sinatra. I love his music because it inspired me to go out and buy a smoking jacket and a wooden pipe and learn to swing dance. I recommend both enthusiastically.
Favorite song: Fever

The Helio Sequence- Definitely one of the best new bands these days. Intricate rhythms, brazen lyrics and EXCELLENT drums. Theyre an enticing conflict of minimalism and large, melodic sound. Listen to "hallelujah"(not a jeff buckley cover)

Pink floyd- Someone put the wall on when I was on holiday last year. I bought every other album when I got back. Like Maxaloco said, its their palpable quality that makes them incredible. There are too many songs to recommend, but "hey you", let there be more light" and "another brick in the wall" are favourites of mine.

The Beatles- Just an amazing range of sounds and styles over the years. Something for everyone. Listen to "cant buy me love", "within you without you" and "paperback writer"

Menomena- Expmerimental bands are rarely without pretension and aimless stupidity, so menomena are refreshing in that respect. The vast amount of instruments (choirs sometimes) make an infecting groove, one you can tell the band enjoys playing, too. Listen to "wet n' rusting", "the late great libido" and "boyscout'n"

The Strokes- Awesome modern band. The guitars shot with grit and musk, steady drums, consistently thick bass and Casblancas' swaying vocal style make a wicked end result. Listen to "take it or leave it" and "the end has no end"

1. Pink Floyd 'Cause their music is diverse, and so much of it wins hard. I have every single album on CD, plus Meddle, Animals, and Atom Heart Mother on Cassette, and Dark Side of the Moon on original vinyl.

2. Led Zeppelin Same thing as above. Every album, bitches.

3. Rush Yay Canada! I wish all of Rush's music was decent. Unfortunately lots of it sucks. Lots of it. I'm looking at you, Roll the Bones.

4. Stevie Ray Vaughan Again, some diverse tunes; although they all have a certain style to them. There's a Stevie song for every mood.

5. The Who Who's Next is a cool album, innit?

Honorable mentions:

Cake Great chilling out music.
Neil Young One of my inspirations to play guitar.
Nirvana ... Not much to say here.

Kaki King: Brilliant artist, simply put. I love her melodies, be them complex, or simple. Her acoustic playing is top notch.

Kelli Rudick: Same as above, only a bit more of a technician. Amazing acoustic playing, very intense.

Tool: I love the feel of their music, as it draws you in. Reminds me of the trippy kind of feel Pink Floyd offers, just more 'metal', for lack of a better word. Maynard is one of the best lyricists and singers around, and Jones, Chancellor, and Carrey are unmatched in their abilities as well.

Led Zeppelin: In my opinion, the greatest rock band of all time. Paige revolutionized blues with songs like 'Since I've Been Loving You', John Paul Jone's bass lines were amazing, Plant is one of the greatest male singers of all time, and Bonham's drumming set a new standard,

Incubus: I never really thought much of this band until I listened to S.C.I.E.N.C.E., and some of their badass funk/jazz songs. Not so sure about keeping this in my favorites of all time, but they are one at the moment.

Others...

Metallica: Before the Suck...
Rory Gallagher: An Irishmen who played the blues like no other.

I know we are only supposed to do 5 but I have to do 6. No order, except the first one is first!

Architecture In Helsinki
My favorite band ever! I own all their albums. The best part about their music is it all sounds sort of different so you can never get bored of it.

Sufjan Stevens
Abbey introduced me to him and I must say I'm in love. His voice is so beautiful and so is his face.

Bishop Allen
All there songs are so pretty. I just love them so! If you like Bishop Allen chances are you would like Vampire Weekend and vice versa.

Vampire Weekend
Similar to Bishop Allen but less piano and more sting instruments and drums. They're songs are all so catchy and pretty.

Peter Bjorn & John
I've listened to them for a while and I just love them. There songs are so catchy and easy to sing to.

Mother Mother
Their music is so different but I still love it! The singing is so good and the songs are easy to sing to. The music has a sort of countryish sound to it but it doesn't suck.

In order:

Jimi Hendrix
No doubt the most innovative and creative guitar player of the 20th century. Name somebody else who could possibly come up with an intro as beautiful as Little Wing or make muted guitar strings with a wah pedal so damn catchy before he jumps into the intro of Voodoo Child. You can't. Hendrix had a style all his own and the guitar chops to prove it. When you play his songs on guitar, they aren't as complex as they are emotional. You can actually feel the music as if it's coming out of the guitar itself rather than your own control over the instrument. I'm not just saying these things because he happened to die in his prime so he should be respected over those who haven't died. That's bullshit. He was truly a one of a kind musician who did things on the guitar that nobody can possibly replicate. Dead or alive, he would still be just as influential as he is today.

Favorite Songs: Little Wing, Bold as Love, All Along the Watchtower

Pink Floyd
These guys took progressive rock into a whole different direction that has yet to be explored by anybody but themselves. When you listen to other progressive rock bands like Rush, Yes, or Genesis, Pink Floyd still stands out because they made things flow so smoothly. When I listen to Yes, I hear a song that is beautiful, and then I hear another song that is in the same key and equally beautiful, so I assume they are separate tracks. However, when I look at the player, I see it is the same track. There are tons of examples like this with every progressive rock band but Pink Floyd. The thing that set them apart was how everything just fit together like a puzzle. The lyrics and the music fit together seamlessly. You can't tell when one beautiful song ends and another begins. Once you finish listening to one of their 4 big concept albums that get every bit of recognition they deserve, (DSotM, WYWH, Animals, and The Wall) you feel like you just discovered the meaning of life. While all of those other progressive bands were out unnecessarily slaving away merging several separate songs into one track and adding as many complex licks as possible, David Gilmour was in the studio recording some of the easiest solos a novice guitar player will ever learn, Rick Wright was finding an appropriate tone for the song on his keyboard, Roger Waters was writing lyrics on a napkin, and Nick Mason was watching television while holding a simple yet suitable beat for the particular mood of the song. Pink Floyd practically made themselves synonymous with progressive rock with they're knowledge of when to keep it simple and when to go complex, all while maintaining a smooth flow to the album.

Favorite Songs: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V), Time, Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1)

Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin is a band that embodies the image and sound that rock has become known for. The variety in their music is so vast that it seems almost too much. To think that the band that created that shitfest known as Hot Dog were also the same folks that created a song that captured every side of rock from the slow side to the melodic side to the hard rockin' side in a single song known as Stairway to Heaven is unbelievable. All of these guys truly put their all into creating a truly original sound that could appeal to nearly every audience at least in North America and Europe. From folk rock to hard rock to punk rock to whatever rock, these guys gave it a hell of a shot. The range of Jimmy Page's guitar abilities is probably one of the widest that I'm aware of with several different scales and tunings that he plays just as fluently as the last with White Summer / Black Mountainside to Good Times, Bad Times. Also, the power that Robert Plant was able to put into the vocals was just as important to their sound. Both Plant and drummer, John Bonham, both knew exactly when to ease up on their performances or go all out, traits which are very rare to see in any mainstream musicians these days. John Paul Jones is also a very rare breed of musician who solidified the sound of Led Zeppelin by just tying everything together with his bass, mandolin, keyboard, recorder, or whatever the hell it is he felt like playing in the song. Led Zeppelin were true explorers of all of the sides of rock and still prove to be prominent influences on nearly every rock band out there.

Favorite Songs: Stairway to Heaven, Good Times, Bad Times, Hey Hey (What Can I Do?)

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Not unlike the last three bands, Skynyrd has a sound all their own. Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird are both great songs, but hardly sum up what this band is all about. In fact, I would even go as far to say that Sweet Home Alabama, although it contains that groovin' Skynyrd sound, is a significant departure from the unforgettable Southern style that makes up their first album. Billy Powell is by and far my favorite keyboardist that has ever graced classic rock and his solo on Tuesday's Gone alone makes me wonder why God was so kind to give us the piano. However, not every Skynyrd song was a ballad that required a piano solo. Ronnie Van Zant's vocals on Simple Man soar over those guitar chords so high that you can't help but realize how emotional the song is despite it's lack of a keyboard solo. These guys were able to create some of the most beautiful ballads of rock but never forgot about their roots with songs like What's Your Name? and Call Me the Breeze. Also, how could I not bring up Free Bird again which contains an absolutely beautiful ballad as its first half and one of the most epic solos of all time as the last half? Skynyrd, though short-lived, was a band that, much like the aforementioned bands, brought a whole new style of rock to the table which continues to influence musicians of today.

Favorite Songs: The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Simple Man, Free Bird

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oops, I skipped fifteen years. Maybe if hair metal never existed, I wouldn't have made that mistake. But to be honest, RHCP is truly a one of a kind band that, not unlike any of the above bands, also has a signature sound and style that can never be replicated. With the lack of good mainstream rock these days, RHCP is that symbol of hope that rock still has a chance to succeed with the mainstream audiences. There are several bands that are contributing to what is going to become yet another forgettable decade of rock, but the most notable of them are Nickelback and 3 Doors Down. If you think any of their songs after their first surge of mainstream success sound different in the slightest, you are wrong. These are the kind of bands that plague this decade with the same old formula of shit that clogs our mainstream radio stations. RHCP, on the other hand, have enjoyed several more years of success than these dickbutts and are still creating catchy melodies that could be arranged to any instruments and still be just as beautiful. They are still willing to experiment and try new things regardless of what their superiors may think because they aren't sellouts. They are true rockers in that they make music from the heart, not from the wallet. These guys are just as comparable to rock as the previous 4 bands thanks to their unending stream of beautiful music, their ability to put on a great live performance, and their willingness to try new things.

Uh, I don't know...

Korpklaani perhaps, because of beer and Finnish folk metal.

Iron Maiden, because everyone loves Iron Maiden.

Skyclad, due to Martin's lyrical genius.

Blind Guardian, because Fly is such a good song.

And Maximum the Hormone, who ask the question: What's up, people?

Well? What's up?

This is in no particular order.

In Flames- My favorite of three kings of melodic death metal. And you know what? I'm not going to be a fucking cunt and say, "but their new album blows hard." Because it's still melodic death metal. Did you people actually fucking listen to the damn thing? Anyway, favorite album by them would have to be Clayman or Whoracle

Death: One of the pioneers of death metal, the aptly named Death is my favorite death metal band, mostly for their later albums. Chuck was an amazing musician, and he wrote some damn good progressive death metal albums. Favorite album: Symbolic

Amorphis: A band that's quite hard to classify, Finland's Amorphis is one the greatest metal bands of all times, in my opinion. The best way to classify them ould have to be: Progressive gothic folk death/doom. Favorite album: Silent Waters

The Dillinger Escape Plan: Experimental mathcore? Call them what you will, The Dillinger Escape Plan is a chaotic band with great singing and guitar playing. Favorite Album: Ire Works

High on Fire: Stoner/sludge metal masters High on Fire were founded by Matt Pike, who was the guitarist for Sleep, the influential stoner/doom metal band. His voice has a very raw, raspy sound, and when combined with his outstanding guitar playing, the heavy bass, and a drummer that stands out above most modern drummer, Hgh on Fire is an intense stoner metal band.

I recently started listening to classics such as; Mozart, Bach, and beethoven. I' am not sure what it is, but thier music really relaxes me. If I have a bad day I just put one of them on, and it seems to cheer me up. I am too classic smart, so if anyone knows anymore classic artists I would appreciate to hear them. Thank you!

A Wilhelm Scream: A great band, their line-up is always changing. Been listening to them for a while. Seen them live quite a few times. I recommend the Career Suicide and Mute Print albums.

Bad Religion: Another awesome band. Great lyrics and great songs. Seen them live a few times.Favourite song: Before You Die off of the New Maps of Hell album.

Alkaline Trio: Love this band too~ Have yet to see them live. Favourite song: Mercy Me.

The Gaslight Anthem: This one too~ Have yet to see them live. Favourite song: Drive.

Of course I have, and I tell ya! It's fucking awesome. Outmatched by the classics but still, a fucking epic album..

My top 5 looks allmost entirely different since last time, so worth posting.

1. In Flames
Posted this once:
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1990 - present

I can't imagine better music. Especially the old albums from 1996 -2000. Don't like Lunar Strain that much, allso because of the poor quality of the recording.
The duel leads is so insane. It's so well composed that I can't really understand it. And i tell you! They're a force to be rekoned with live!
They had their dark period though, from 2002 - 2006 with only few mindblowing tracks such as My Sweet Shadow, Cloud Connected, Vacuum, Evil in a Closet etc. Hell pretty good albums but nothing to go "Woah!" But their new album is actually very good. I compare it to Clay Man. Not much variety yet all the tracks are very good.

My favourite band of all time! Jesterhead till i die, In Flames we trust!

Favourite track: Might be Moonshield, but diffcult choice.
Favourite album: The Jester Race

2. Ceremonial Oath
Genre: Death Metal/ Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1990 - 1995

Only heard one of their two albums but god damn! Carpet is a fucking sick album. Some of the best melo death. Anders vocals is raw and brutal, you'll need to get used to them before you can like 'em. The guitars hit the spot. Shame they disbanded, and shame their albums is so damn fucking hard to buy anywhere. Only saw an album on ebay for i think 99 euros. Managed to track down a place where you can download the album in one piece, as rar file, able to play in media player though. Strömblad has touched Cermonial Oath as well.

Favourite track: Either The Day I Buried or their cover of Iron Maidens Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Favourite album: Carpet :indiff:

3. Amon Amarth.
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Years active: 1992 - present. (As scum 1988 - 1992)

Want me to give an explanation? These guys is so fucking cool. They know how to make seductive riffs, with only a few chords. Brutal melo death! And allso a good live band.

Favourite track: ...And Soon The World Will Cease To Be
Favourite album: Versus the World

4. Carcass

Genre: Death Metal/Melodic Death Metal.
Years active: 1985–1995, 2007–present

I like them mainly because of their awesome Heartwork and Swansong albums in their later period. Awesome melo death, and allso esspecially on Swansong I think they're a lil influenced by doom metal, am I right? I mean they have very slow riffing in a lot of their songs. (Not a bad thing) They're just awesome. Hope I can get to see them live sooner or later. They'll be a blast!

Favourite track: Childs Play
Favoutie album: Swansong

5. Dimension Zero(hard choice though)

Genre: ok to say "Brutal Melodic Death Metal"? If not then Death Metal
Years active: 1995-1998, 2000-present

Well they make what I call "Brutal Melodic Death Metal". Basically it's slightly heavier than melo death but not enough to be death because they do use a lot of melody in some songs. A side project of Jesper Strömblad if anyone is interrested. That man is my god. I can't really explain why, but they just have some sort of aura around them. Allso, i get pretty screwed in my head if I listen to them to much. Don't ecxactly know why. Then I need to switch back to something softer. Think it got something to do with the fact that i'm not used to something that brutal.

Favourite track: Through the Virgin Sky
Favourite album: Silent Night Fever

Honorable mentions:
Sabaton
Iron Maiden
Pink Floyd
Behemoth
Soilwork
Vader
At The Gates
Lillasyster
Scorpions
Rolling Stones
Etc
Etc

1. Lamb of God
OK, so maybe they're becoming "mainstream" in terms of metal, since they've soared in popularity since they first appeared, but I can't get enough of Randy Blythe's incredibly hard-hitting yet actually UNDERSTANDABLE lyrics, something that is very rare in metal nowadays.

Favorite Song: 11th Hour
Favorite Album: As the Palaces Burn

2. Judas Priest
Ever since their debut, Priest have been at the forefront of metal with insane yet catchy songs that stick in your head, screaming solos and best of all Rob Halford's vocal range of 4 octaves. They make beautiful music.

Favorite Song: Hell Patrol
Favorite Album: Screaming for Vengeance

3. Train
Make fun of me all you want, but I love Train as much as any "totally brutal hardcore metal band." They have such chilled out songs, and beautiful lyrics to go along with them. They are a force to be reckoned with live, and their songs send shivers down my spine any time I listen to them. Train is beautiful.

Favorite Song: All I Hear
Favorite Album: My Private Nation

4. In Flames
Quite the popular one around here with their millions of melodic-death-metal followers, In Flames has been at the forefront of metal since they started the genre with Dark Tranquility and At The Gates. Although some argue that their newer stuff is "not hardcore enough" and that they "sold out," I find that I enjoy any song by them from any time period, and their newer stuff is not bad by any means.

Favorite Song: Crawl Through Knives
Favorite Album: The Jester Race

5. Dethklok
Oh, how I wish they existed in real life. Sure, they go on tour, but hell, I want to meet Toki and Nathan so bad! Their music is brutal and hilarious at the same time. They have amazing solos and in general they just kick ass.

Favorite Song: Fansong
Favorite Album: The Dethalbum

Since I want to be one of the cool kids, guess I'll post here then.

1st goes to: Streetlight Manifesto. It is ska. It IS however, serious. It is completely everything I usualy laugh at about ska and about serious music, but they do it so well, that I can't help but love them. Also only ska band in my top 5, hell probably in my top 20. Favorite album is their new one - Somewhere in Between.

2nd place and silver medal: Black Label Society. Guitar is godly. Lyrics are brilliant, I love the singers voice, overall one of the best metal bands out there, especialy out of those that play somewhat more modern metal.

3rd place, worse than the 2nd: Daath- the death metal band of my choice. I usualy dislike deathmetal for the fact that it sounds like scraping a saw on the guitar's strings and screaming senselessly, but Daath really has something that attracts me in the lyrics. It is not the lyrics themselves, but the rhyming part about them that I find brilliant.

4th place, or the loser without a medal: Alice Cooper. I thought I hated everything as old as his music. I was proved wrong, quite recently when I found out that I loved pretty much every single one of his songs. He has said repeatedly that his music is intended to shock, and the fact that it is still capable of doing so so many years after being written means it does its job well.

5th place, which is just happy to get in top 5: Foo Fighters. Some of their songs i loathe, but the ones I like, I like a lot. Times Like These, for example is one of my favorite songs, amongst many other of their songs. Also, this is the band that's been on my top 5 for the longest, as usualy my top changes at least monthly, but Foo Fighters have been there for almost five years now.

What death metal bands are you listening to ith screamnin? I can tell you now (unless the band uses screamed vocals from time to time) they're not death metal. And I know Daath doesn't scream.

Bleeding Through myspace.com/bleedingthrough

I remember in high school slowing getting tired of nu-metal (slipknot, mudvayne, etc) and getting more into metal/metal core, first show a friend took me to was Bleeding Through opening for Danzig, was fortunate enough to meet the band afterwards and they are great group of people, I also enjoy the blending of different sounds that make it hard to catagorize them into any genre.

Cancer Bats myspace.com/cancerbats

Noticed a lot of people like alexisonfire and found out about this band through alexisonfire fans and they opened for Bleeding Through on the BFMV tour. I think the metalcore styles mixed with what is at times, a southern-lynyrd skynyrd-esq sound really did it for me. Lucifer's Rocking Chair is a good example.

Terror myspace.com/terror

Saw them at a GWAR show and just became engulfed in that classic 70's/80's hardcore sound that you dont really hear alot anymore, and they stick by it. Spit my rage and Lost are my top 2 songs from them for sure.

GWAR gwar.net

I LOVE going to a gwar show, there is probably nothing better then being covered in fake blood. The fact that whenever I see them live in my hometown of Vegas, we have to walk through a casino afterwards and the looks people give are worth it alone. If you have never seen a GWAR show live, go! Saddam a go-go favorite song! also watch the youtube of them on the Joan Rivers show, its priceless

Lamb of God myspace.com/lambofgod

Already saw them mentioned a few times, just great metal, willie adler and mark morton just amaze me with the riffs they can create. And im also partial to Randy Blythe's voice, its very distinct. Favorite song: Vigil

*Also should be noted, I can listen to any band really, but I love live shows more than anything, good band + bad live show = I kinda lose interest

In no particular order:

Paramore
Motion City Soundtrack
My Chemical Romance. I don't give a flying fuck about what you think about them, I like 'em.
Jason Mraz
OneRepublic - And not just for their song on the radio
The Fray

I'd like to revise this list, as I've been exploring more genres and my tastes are changing.

Alexisonfire - Just awesome. Each of their albums just get better.
Arctic Monkeys - British indie band that I wish was more well known stateside.
Motion City Soundtrack
My Chemical Romance - I still like them, but I'm starting to see why some people don't.
Paramore

Chris Brown

Kanye West
Janet & Micheal Jackson

I'll probably get some shit for this (because I can't let go of the past sometimes), but here goes...

Korn - My favourite band of all time bar none. One of the first metal bands I ever got into and have been following them religiously (my best mates were/are huge Korn fans too) ever since. I do like their new stuff quite a lot, but Issues has to be my favourite album for me. Seen them live four times.

Papa Roach - Another old 'nu-metal' band that gets slated all the time. Their first album was awesome, their second was quite good but they faded away for a bit. I thought my love for them would too, but Getting Away With Murder and The Paramour Sessions are just mindblowingly good albums. I've played both albums to death and still can't get enough of them. Their live show was also one of the best I've ever been to.

In Flames - Very popular on here it seems, so I'll just add myself to the rabble of fans. 'Only For The Weak' was the song that got me hooked on this band and remains one of my favourite songs by them. I'm also a big fan of their later work, with Reroute To Remain and Come Clarity being excellent albums in my eyes. Soundtrack To Your Escape was pretty good, but I'm not liking the latest effort too much. I've haven't given it much attention though and In Flames deserve my full attention before I can give an informed opinion on it.

This is where it gets a bit tough as my musical taste is changing rapidly so I'm liking the older stuff a tad less, while I haven't got into any of the 'newer' music I listen to enough for it to be a top 5 choice.

Fuck it.

TC - Representin' my love from drum and bass. His album Evolution is a brilliant piece of work with some top tunes.

Children Of Bodom - Barely even listen to them anymore, but they put on a damn good show and Follow The Reaper and Hatebreeder were two absolutely awesome albums of near-perfection.

Other mentions go to Spineshank, The Haunted, Future Prophecies, Jedi Mind Tricks, Static-X, Metallica & Paramore.

Top 5 let's see...

The Clash - without a doubt the pinnacle of bands for me back in high school when I was all punk and shit. I still undeniably love them. they were raw, edgy, and above all love their fans immensely.I dare anyone to say they don't like at least one Clash song. Actually I hope I never find some one that does. I love these guys too much to hear any negative comments towards them.

Favorite Songs - Complete Control, London Calling, Tommy Gun and White Riot.

Every Time I Die - The party animals of hardcore. These guys are all about having a good time and get really shit faced with them, while at the same time will kick your ass and bang your girlfriend right next to your unconsious body. I know alot of people who hate ETID because they sound nothing like "Last Night on the Town" anymore. Fuck That. Their only getting better, Hot Damn! made my senior year of high school fun, Gutter phenomenon is still my favorite Hardcore CD I have, and the Big Dirty is right around their as well.Still, above anything else is that they stay true to themselves and not summiting themselves to the whole "image is more important than the music" genic hardcore bullshit that's plauging the genre now. Long Live Every time I Die!!!

Favorite Songs - The New Black, I've Been Gone a Long Time, Ebolorama, Bored Stiff, We're Wolf and In-Rihab

Interpol - If people are actually impress with the bands image than the music themselves, then I'm guilty of that when I first laid eyes on Interpol. I first saw them on an article of GQ magazine (my bible) and was rather impressed with their look. So I went to best buy and bought their CD and was immediately blown away by how good they really are. Every song just completly flabbergasted me and after listening to "Turn Off the Bright Lights" a good hundred times It changed my way I wanted to look, talk, and act. I started to buy nice suits and wearing them to school, completly ditching my punk look and started to focus more on other indie bands like Death Cab, Kings of Leon, Mogwai, and so on. The effects Interpol left on me is still evident today, and if I can truly point out that one band that no matter what will still profoundly have an affect on me, it would have to be Interpol.

Favorite Songs - Obstacle 1,Say Hello to the Angels, Roland, C'mere, and Pace Is the Trick

Sufjan Stevens - Bored out of my mind one day, I was browsing through the Sirius channels that are on my TV, trying to find something good on, when I stumbled on Sufjan Stevens "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!" and was completly amazed. I quickly ran to my computer and downloaded it, then the whole album. I must of listen to it a good 50 times before i decited to get "Michigan" then must have listen to that 80 times before I got "Seven Swans." I truley belive that this guy is a musical genius. It was also evident when I saw them live. From his weird but catchy electronic tracks, to his simple but humble songs on the banjo like "Rumulus" no doubt this guy is truly breathtaking.

Favorite Songs - Come On! Feel the Illinoise! , Romulus, In the Devil's Territory and The Henney Buggy Band

last but not least...

Radiohead - Last time I cheched my iPod, I have 114 radiohead songs, more than any other band I have on. The're no denying how great these guys truly are. Not more so when anytime a song from "OK Computer" pops on and every time it does I think to myself, "There's no way they'll ever make a better album than this one." that was until I heard "In Rainbows" and it made me second guess myself. which one is better, it dosen't matter, there both amazing pieces of how beautiful and enjoyable music really is. They may change their sound on every album but it's still Radiohead. Yes they are that awesome.

favorite Songs -Black Star, Paranoid Android, Karma Police, Idioteque, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, House of Cards and Videotape

No particular order.

1. Weird Al Yankovic
He literally amazes me. He doesn't just make funny music, he makes good music, and a darn good job he does of it too. I don't think I could pick a favourite song, they're all pretty much amazing. Though 'Pancreas' is pretty cool.

2. Flight of the Conchords
I have a thing for funny music I guess. These guys are really talented, and I reckon the New Zealand accent helps with the hilarity of them. It's also mega adorable. Favourite song, probably 'Inner City Pressure' or 'Prince of Parties'.

3. Friendly Yen
They're a band from Canberra in Australia. I doubt anyone here's heard of them or their music, for which you all are missing out. They're pretty much reggae, with a bit of rock and acoustic mixed in. Their debut E.P's coming out in November this year. Give them a listen: http://www.sonicbids.com/friendlyen
Favourite song would probably have to be '360'.

4. Kaiser Chiefs
They're so good to just chill to. That's pretty much all I have to say about them really. Favourite song probably 'Heat Dies Down'.

5. Smosh
They're not really a band at all, but they have made songs to go along with their videos. I find them enjoyable to listen to, anyway. Again, comedic songs, not everyone will find them funny though. Favourite song is probably 'Transformer's Rap'.

Five it is:

1.Bagster; they're a five piece punk band with a two bit brass section from Sydney. They recently split though, as the lead singer wanted to see the world. Their music is so energetic and their lyrics, while not particularly clever, are great fun. Plus they're always available for a chat before shows, after shows, during shows and over the internet.
Favourite song: Dearly departed (acoustic)

2.Strung Out; favourite international punk band for their lyrics and style of music. Their rendition of Every Step You Take blew me away. I think everyone needs a band they love for no reason, and this is mine.

3.The Smiths; everybody needs a band they listen to for cathartic reasons. Morrisey and Robert Smith of the Cure were the voices I discovered through my parents, however the Cure was ruined for me by a bad break up, and so it was to the musical arms of the Smiths I fled for comfort. Not to mention the clever lyrics, the ambiguous nature of some of the songs, the soaring melodies!

4.Reel Big Fish; the first album I ever bought, and only because it had funny picture on the front (Everything Sucks). The raw recordings on that album though, straight to the heart. And while I still love that album, their later stuff is equally lovable for its better musicianship. I'm yet to see them live, but I'm pretty sure they won't disappoint!

5.Sunny Day Real Estate; I have two words for why I love this band: Jeremy Enigk. His voice, his lyrics, his ego, everything about the man is emo, second wave through and through, and I find it utterly irresistible. He stands for so many things I resent in the *genre*, but the emotion of the songs; it appeals to the part of my brain that has no protection against anything and overrides my other responses. My girly gland if you will.

However honorary mentions must go to:
The Cure, NOFX, The Promise Ring, The Living End, Eddie Perfect and Marilyn Manson

What?! I heard they were on hiatus, not split! I love Bagster! I have Wellkumn to the Show Tonight and Brutiful, and I fucking love them.

Well, my top 5 has changed a bit since I last posted here, so let's see how it pans out now;

1. Parkway Drive
2. Breaking Benjamin
3. Incubus
4. Avenged Sevenfold
5. The Avalanches

Wow. Completely different now, haha.

1. Protest the Hero
song: Turn Soonest to the Sea

A punk screamo band, who seem heavily influenced by math metal, as a lot of their riffs are complex, both in technicality and complex time signatures. I've like Protest the Hero for ages, dunno how they missed out on my last list. They've been in my top 20 bands for a year or two.

2. Metallica
song: Of Wolf and Man

Favourite song by them is a tough one, as it's always changing between a few certain songs, including Of Wolf and Man, Creeping Death, The Four Horsemen and some others. Metallica were the first band I got into when I started getting into, and playing, music. They missed out on my last list because I stopped listening to them for a while, after having listened to nothing but them for nearly 3 years straight. But now I'm back onto them, and it turns out just in time for the new album. Woo hoo!

3. Alterbridge
song: White Knuckles

Creed with a new singer, and more badass. Listen to Find the Real, Metalingus or White Knuckles, and you'll see how fucking mad they are. Mark Tremonti is the single guitarist, though the new album features some guitar work from singer Myles Kennedy, but Mark seems to do pretty well on his own, letting the bass hold down the rhythm in most parts, and choosing to show off with elad guitar licks thrown in on chorus and verse alike.

4. Paramore
song: Fences

Hayley Williams is fuckin' hot. Plus, all their songs are catchy as hell. Seriously, Hayley's voice is amazing, and some of the guitar lines are just so damn catchy, and stick in your head all day. I've had their album Riot! in my car for about 2 months now, been listening to it nonstop. It's pretty ace.

5. Disturbed
song: Stricken

Only recently started getting into Disturbed. I've always liked Down With The Sickness, but about 5 years ago I bought Believe (I think that's the album's name?) and didn't really see anything special about it. Recently though, I bought The Sickness and fuckin' loved every track on it. Then the other day I got 10,000 Fists, and I must say, these boys fail to disappoint.

I'd have to second these guys. Their first album (and HBO show) are absolutely hilarious though. It's funny, your two favorite tracks are my least favorite on that album. I prefer Business Time, Robots, and The Most Beautiful Girl In the Room.

Here goes....

Filter - Richard Patrick has amazing vocal range, from his distinctive primal scream to his actual singing. And he writes great songs, from the hard-ass heaviness of Short Bus to the more mellow Title Of Record.

U2 - I know, I know...I can't help it. I'm a way bigger fan of pre-1990 U2, I must say, before Bono got all self-righteous.

Black Lab - Highly underrated band that should've made it bigger. Paul Durham is an amazing song writer, and has a great voice to boot.

6gig - (RIP) Small time band from Portland, Maine. Also highly underrated.

Our Lady Peace - I just love everything about this band, from the music to Raine Maida's 'just enough off-key to be awesome' voice.

Recently though, I bought The Sickness and fuckin' loved every track on it. Then the other day I got 10,000 Fists, and I must say, these boys fail to disappoint.

Try their new album Indestructible, I'm a big Disturbed fan and I think it sucks dick.

1. Metallica
You can't really go wrong with Metallica (pre-Load of course), they were one of the first metal bands I listened to, probably what got me into metal in general. Their albums from Load onwards bore the shit out of me, but the older stuff I never ever get bored of, which is good.

2. Spineshank
Found out about Spineshank about a month ago, I like their style. Something tells me I'll get bored of them within a few months, but in the meantime it's pretty sweet to listen to. I'm also pissed that the singer left the band, if they ever release anything with a new singer it'll probably suck.

3. Pagan's Mind
One of the better power metal bands out there in my opinion. With most other power metal bands I tire of their music reasonably quickly, simply because it's not 'epic enough'. I like the way Pagan's Mind does things, they build their songs in a way that suits my tastes in power metal.

4. Mercenary
Get some melodic death metal, throw some power metal influence in there, and you've got a pretty sweet combination. Albeit I only just found out about this band a couple of weeks ago, I like what I've heard so far, and they've combined two of my favourite genres incredibly well. Their latest album has a bit more power metal than I'd like in it, but it's still pretty sweet nonetheless.

5. Bullet for my Valentine
I'm going through a phase of liking this band, it'll probably be over reasonably soon. In the meantime I enjoy their stuff, though I wish there was a bit less singing and a bit more screaming, the lead singer kind of pisses me off. I have this feeling that the lead singer is dragging the band down a bit, but hell, it's not my place to tell them how they should play. The guitar work sounds like they've put a bit of effort into it, so that's a plus.

I've heard a couple of the songs off it, and I don't mind it. Then again, I didn't listen to it too in depth, but on the surface it just seemed Disturbed, really.

I love Spineshank. In my opinion, they seem like old school Linkin Park minus the rapping and emo lyrics. Like, the singer's voice has a similar tone, and most of their guitar work seems like some of Linkin Park's awesome heavy bits. I don't really like Linkin Park all that much, but that's the best way to describe Spineshank.
They only have one studio release, right?

*thinks* Limiting the number to five is a bit restrictive, but I'll try anyway...

1. IAMX
The solo project of Chris Corner (formerly of sneaker pimps)...
The first album is dark electro stuff, (all synths and bass) while the second is more rocky(with more agressive guitars and drums). The songs are brilliant in every way, with poetic lyrics that are cathcy, but with deeper meaning if you should choose to analyse them. Mr. Corner's voice is amazing, and he is a talented musician (he both records and produces all of his music.) IAMX's live shows are phenomenal. . Having seen him in both tiny clubs and in a support slot for a larger band I think the music works both in smaller and larger venues.

Heres my top 5 (hard picks but i guess i narrowed it down)

Koda Kumi - Her music is amazing can do some really good ballads and can do some good up beat music with some nice dancign here and there ( her ealier years i loved her especially her Secret era) but I love her voice and love her style and her as a person just a great pop star all around.

Sowelu - In love with her voice and i love how she sings and i love the style she does. She does some really good R&B and ballads singles and she is just gorgeous been a fan of hers since he started her career back in like 2002.

Victor Manuelle - raised up with his salsa music. His music always gets you up and dancing and singing also been listening to his music ever since my dad introduced me into salsa music when i was like 5 years old. He had some huge hits and you cant help but get up and dance when his music is on.

Crystal Kay - Omg her voice her style everything about her just oozes awesomness. Love R&B so her popish R&B sets a good feeling for me been a fan of hers since 2003 and glad that I found her when I did.

Namie amuro - terrific dancer, terrific singer, loved her when she changed her whole style of music back in 2003 to a more hip hop and R&B sound which makes me smile. lways chanign her style dueing singles and her albums always on my playlist over and over again never getting tired of her. and her music is mad catchy.

1. The Mars Volta
Awesome band overflowing with talent, they aren't afraid to do anything. Omar is my favorite guitarist. I'll admit that The Bedlam in Goliath wasn't their best album, though. They have one of the greatest live acts, if you are into free jazz.
Favorite song: Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus

2. Queen
Does anyone have a better voice than Freddie Mercury? Brian May is such a great guitarist too, and having played bass in a Queen tribute band, I can tell you that John Deacon is an insane bassist. Tailed off starting with "The Game", but still have 7-8 great albums. Probably the best live band.
Favorite song: The Prophet's Song

3. Vendetta Red
I won't deny that they aren't all great musicians, and that they are a teenage angst-rock band, but they brought me into music, so they do have a sentimental value. Still, they are amongst the best at creating catchy melodies, and the singer and the drummer are great. They also have some of the best lyrics.
Favorite song: P.S. Love the Black

4. King Crimson
Inconsistent prog-rockers, but perhaps one of the most talented bands ever. They always have something interesting going on and I like all of their albums. They are WAY better live than in studio.
Favorite song: Elephant Talk

5. Coheed and Cambria
They have three of my favorite albums and a generic piece of shit (No World for Tomorrow). Can't wait to hear the next album. Everybody in the band is really good.
Favorite song: The Willing Well I: Fuel for the Feeding End

1. Buckethead
He's simply the best guitarist who I can think of. I might even say who ever lived. He covers songs from every genre imaginable, from pop to soft rock to rock to metal to prog rock and everything in between. Now I can't say I like every one of his songs, but there are few I don't. Everyone should listen to the following right now-
Soothsayer, Whitewash, Warcraft, Electric Tears, Nottingham Lace, and Destroyer. They are possibly the best songs that exist.

2. Hendrix
Perhaps I was hasty in crowing Buckethead the best. Hendrix was so revolutionary and talented that anyone who doesn't like him clearly hasn't heard him. He was so great that he is pretty much neck and neck with Buckethead. I really can't decide who is better. I also fucking love Voodoo Child.

3. Beatles
Come on, tell me you don't like ONE song by them. They were also so instrumental in the history of rock that they should be mentioned anyways. What really impresses me is that they released 2 albums a year and still managed to have at least half of their songs be awe-inspiring. Go listen to pretty much everything they released, mainly songs from Abbey Road and the White Album. Especially Oh Darling, Here Comes the Sun, I Want You, Back in the USSR, Revolution, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Sexy Sadie, and Dear Prudence. Now.

4. Red Hot Chili Peppers
The singer, in particular, is amazing. I love every song I've heard by them. I can't even describe anything specifically that I like besides the variety, originality, and vocals. Their best song is probably Under the Bridge.

5. Pink Floyd
The psychedelic sounds present in most of their works is amazing. I like how they are actually a soft-sounding band. I think their best song is Hey You, or maybe Comfortably Numb.

1. Agalloch- for their quality of having an unique music style (from my music culture at least), the atmosphere they manage to create and for the cascade of feelings you get when listening to them. I'd recommend the following albums: "The mantle","Ashes against the grain" and "Pale Folklore".
2.Sentenced-R.I.P., one of the best heavy metal bands ever. These Finnish guys managed to capture the feeling of woe and hopelessness without being emo.
3.Novembre-Italian black metal band. I love them for the awesomeness of their guitar riffs and for the fact that the singer's growling were among the few that sent shivers down my spine.
4.Lake of Tears-when it comes to melancholy and nostalgia,Lake of Tears is the first band coming to my mind. The "Forever Autumn" album is their masterpiece in my opinion.
5.Demons and Wizards-for the refined vocals of Blind Guardian's Hansi Kurshch and the mindblowing guitar riffs of Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer.

That would be it for the time being.

Nirvana: A very influentual band, and I love them for that. Sure, they didn't have great speed or skills, but Kurt sure knew how to turn something simple into something beautiful. Nirvana's lyrics have always enchanted me, too.

Megadeth: I wouldn't exactly call these guys thrash (how the hell did they get that title, anyway?) but they're definitely awesome. Again, lyrics is a big thing. Mustaine's ego always makes me smile, he's a great guy.

Slayer: Just amazing. Speed and skills, and it sounds like pure thrash. No posing here. Kerry King plays with emotions so strong that it's like I'm feeling them myself when I listen to them (ever heard of anger, people?)

Anthrax: Well, they're Anthrax and they take no sh*t. They're a very very very unique band, I've never heard anything quite like them!

OLD Metallica: You have no idea how I long for the old days: Kill 'Em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning. Oh, and did I mention Cliff Burton? He's what put the metal into Metallica. You have no idea how disgusted I am with the new albums! Metallica? More like Meh-tallica.

Why?
Amazing band, in my opinion. A product of the anticon. label, it's usually labeled as hip-hop but I'm going to be honest here, Why? has the most unique sound I have ever, EVER heard. You just can't say say "They sound a bit like _____", there is just no other band that sound like this. Definitely my favorite band right now. I love every single one of their songs.

Rammstein
There's something in their music and the way their vocals sound - I can't really pinpoint it - but I can't help but love it. I love it. They'd be #1, but Why has better lyrics. For a band with over 100 songs out, I think it's a bit impressive for me to say that I love every single song except one.

Muse
They have this insanely awesome energy around almost all of their songs. It's great. Seeing them live was amazing, too. Even the soft songs they have are good enough to get you ready for the powerful songs.

Nine Inch Nails
Say what you want about Trent Reznor, but I love most of their music - most, not all. Just don't listen to NIN if you're suicidal.

Disturbed
Again, I love most of their songs even if it's not too...intelligent. The reason they're #5 is because I love most of their stuff for its ability to be catchy and get you all pumped up. They're very mainstream, but it's not a bad thing.

Honorable mention goes to Rise Against, - who I got bored of for now until their new album comes out. Audioslave - I love Chris Cornell, but I don't like enough of Audioslave's songs to warrant a spot on the top 5. Gorillaz - who I really, really like (listening to Last Living Souls right now), but I'm still working on them. I don't like all or even most of their songs yet. Led Zeppelin - who, I'm slightly ashamed to admit, I'm still working on getting to like them. Perhaps it's just unfortunate because I respect them and I recognize the genius in their work, but I just can't get myself to like listening to it. Yet. So it'll probably be a bit.

1. Summoning

Anyone a fan of the Black Metal genre will have heard of these guys. They have heavy Tolkien influences through out all their music. Atmospheric, Ambient, and just plain epic. The vocals are some of the best I have heard. Plus, they kicked out their drummer because he turned out to be "a commercial thinking asshole".

2. Blind Guardian

I have a large collection of Power Metal and these guys are surely the kings of the genre. Hansi has unbelievable vocals. The songs are epic, without all the cheesiness of typical Power Metal. Plus, these guys are perhaps the best band to see live.

3. Moonsorrow

A Viking/Pagan/Heathen Metal band from Finland. All I can say about these guys is they fucking rock. Most of the songs are over 15 minutes long (longest being 30 minutes) and are the most epic sounding music I have ever heard. Their songs are slow at first, but build up into a huge climax of awesomeness.

4. Bathory

The one man band that pretty much started the whole Black Metal scene and paved the way for the epic genre of Viking and Pagan Metal. Their first couple albums were typical Black Metal but they branched out into a more slower and progressive sound. Hammerheart and Nordland I and II are pretty much the greatest albums ever recorded. RIP Quarthon.

5. Wuthering Heights

I just recently discovered this gem of a band. Very nice Progressive/Folk sound. The vocals are clean and pronounced and the music writing is excellent. Plus, they use bagpipes in their songs. Bagpipes bitches!

1. Gorilla Biscuits
An old band but I've only really started listening to them recently.
I love the way Civ can change from very harsh vocals to high clean vocals.
They definitely deserve a place in Hardcore history.
2. Better Than A Thousand
A band coming from lead singer of Youth Of Today and guitarist from Battery, it had to be good, and it is. It's like a modernized Youth Of Today.
3. Youth Of Today
Starting the youth crew hardcore movement they are a great band. I can't really find a way to describe them, just listen.
4. Extortion
They just blow my mind. Going at great speeds then stopping suddenly with ease and changing pace.
The best hardcore band in Australia at this moment.
5. Dinosaur Jr.
They've been around for awhile and I believe J Mascis plays in Sonic Youth from time to time. The guitar work is truly great and the sounds that J gets out of the guitar are awesome. They came to Melbourne awhile ago but they played an overage gig, I wish they would come back.

Red Hot Chili Peppers The definition of funk rock. So different, nobody is like them and nobody can try to be like them. Chad Smith is an incredible drummer, John Frusciante is one of the greatest guitarists ever and so incredibly unique, Flea is among the top 5 bassists of all time, so unique and different like Frusciante... Flea is my personal idol, I love him so much. And Anthony Kiedis, an absolutely incredible song writer. All of his lyrics are amazing, reflecting on his life story, deep dark songs about depression and drug addictions (ie This is the Place, Under the Bridge) or just random crazy funk lyrics (ie Can't Stop, By The Way). This is just an incredible band all round, every one of my top 5 played songs is by them for a reason.

Nirvana The most influential band of the 90's, they're not necessarily as musically talented on their instruments as a lot of other bands, but Kurt Cobain is so amazing, not all of his lyrics are fantastic, but the dynamics of his voice and the flow of all of the instruments makes the perfect mixture. These guys re-defined music.

Rage Against The Machine I just recently got into them and they are absolutely awesome. They make great protest songs and are massive activists for many things such as the Zapista army. Zach de La Rocha's rapping is awesome with his accent and Tom Morello's unique guitar playing and soloing techniques are matched by no other guitarists.

Primus Again, just got into them... but Les Claypool is probably the greatest bassist ever and he can manage to do such amazing singing while he's playing almost impossible bass parts. This is a band lead by the bassist, instead of a guitarist like most bands. They also have such an incredibly unique sound that can't really be put into any genre at all.

Guns n' Roses Good ol' classic rock. Again lead by an amazing guitarist in Slash... there's just nothing not to like about the band's music. Just good ol' classic 80s rock.

I would just like to point out that I would have nine in this list. However, I have condensed it down to five because four of them are side-bands including the members of Green Day.

1. Green Day.
These guys saved me from death. I will always be devoted to them. I haven't gotten sick of their music once since I became a fan back in '97. I've even won two awards for my devotion. (Side bands are The Network, The Foxboro Hot Tubs, Pinhead Gunpowder, and The Frustrators.) Yes, I admit to being obsessed. I've gone for almost an entire year listening to nothing but them. No, I didn't get sick of the music. I just missed other songs. The lyrics are really powerful in my mindset, and they've helped me no to end. All time favorite band. Forever.

2. The Ramones.
Yes, they wrote simple songs (like Green Day). Simplicity isn't always bad. My Brain is Hanging Upside Down, among many other songs, is simply amazing. It was the song that got me hooked. I enjoy them to a great extent.

3. Operation Ivy.
Ain't nothing wrong, with another unity song...
This song, along with Knowledge (I first heard a cover of Knowledge by Green Day), was very true when I first heard it. Still is. I became addicted to songs like Caution, and I have yet to regret it.

4. The Clash.
I'll admit it. London Calling isn't one of my favorite songs by them. At the moment, it's a tie between Complete Control and This is Radio Clash. Actually, it changes all the time. I'm falling in deep love with Washington Bullets. I have yet to hear all of Sandinista, but I'm working on it diligently. Fun. :) (Although, I'm not very into Career Opportunities.)

5. Nirvana.
Very difficult to choose between these guys and The Unseen. I flipped a coin. Not a big fan of grudge myself, but Nirvana does make me happy. Songs like Sappy, On a Plain, Aneurysm, Breed, and About a Girl changed the way I looked at the genre. I got into these guys in the early 2000's, but my attraction to them grows constantly. Seems very generic, but still a grand band.

And there you have it.

TSOL-
I just love the music style. The way they put a fuckin piano with hardcore punk is amazing! Also, theyve been able to stick to their punk roots, with the exception of Hit N' Run.
The Germs-
I've been listening to these guys for a while now. I think the reason I like them so much is because of the late Darby Crash's vocals.
You can hear his emotion through his singing, no homo.
Black Flag-
Black Flag has also been one of my favorite bands for a while now.
I listen to them because songs like "Revenge" and "Rise Above" are really pretty inspiring.
Not like, "hey im gonna go and save a kid with cancer" inspiring.
But more of an odd, more meaningful inspiring.
Rudimentary Peni-
I dont know if i like Rudimentary Peni because of their dark-sounding instruments or Nick Blinko's screeches and yells, but theyre just orgasmic.
Cheap Sex-
For Cheap Sex, I like them because they really dont sound like any other bands around.
Instead of singing, Mike Virus yells his way through every song.
But his yell is just as inspiring as Black Flag.
Also, theyre from the same city as me, which i think is pretty cool.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN:
Well there guys where the first music I really got into the first ever song I actualy heard by them was B.Y.O.B. These guys got me into the metal.
Song: B.Y.O.B (how obvious)

ATREYU:
I cant remember where I heard of these guys but I just love there style. I'm not to fond of there new stuff but there old stuff is just amazing the screaming and everything. I own a atreyu shirt :D.
Song: Diluted

ALEXISONFIRE:
this is a band near my town that comes every year and the lead singer dallas green is friends with my brother he actualy met him at a subway and dallas bought him a sub which is pretty awesome.again such an amazing band the vocalist voice is just amazing.
Song: This could be anywhere

CANCERBATS: this is just another random band I like, I dont know the bands name but I like his style of screaming it has a really rough feel to it which i like in his style of singing. they are french which makes it awesome.
Song: French immersion

DIR EN GREY: this is a japanese band which i dont suggest looking them up on youtube. These guys I like because there music has a much different feel from our english music. Some of the songs are nice to relax to, others..... dont even go there!
Song: Aint afraid to die

Picking your favourite bands/artists/songs is always a tough call, especially once you've listened to a multitude of music, ordering them is almost as hard.

So in no particular order, my favourite bands/artists:

BT: BT, a.k.a Brian Tanseau is a famous electronic music producer. His style of music is as diverse as the artists he's worked with. He started making progressive house music and trance and was one of the first to use hip hop influences in electronic. His style had a few more changes experimenting with anything he can. One of the godfathers of the trance scene, his music is monumental.
Favourite track: Flaming June

Hybrid: Hybrid is a team of electronic producers from England, Chris Healings and Mike Truman, who have made a name for themselves around the world. Their first album, wide angle, was a great success and they've worked with many producers, remixing stacks of beats, to make a big name for themselves in the dance scene. They started out fairly underground, playing breakbeats and house but their style has developed and become more commercial.
Favourite track: Finished Symphony

Muse: They need no introduction, one of the finest rock acts I've listened to. I can't get over how good their music is and how long it took for me actually start listening to them. Wish I Could see them live.
Favourite track: Muscle Museum

Oasis: Another band that needs no introduction. One of the first bands I listened to. Have made stunning rock forever and I can't get enough of them till this day.
Favourite track: All Around The World

Sarah McLachlan: Her voice is absolutely amazing on basically all of her tracks.
Favourite track: Silence

Red Hot Chili Peppers
I have a love/hate relationship with this band. I could listen to BSSM all day but I can't stand the album By the Way. They've gone through some rough times, including drug abuse and death, but those guys keep on playing.
Except they're on hiatus now.

Metallica
If Death Magnetic wasn't awesome I would've abandoned this band. What intrigues me is I only like two of the people in the band (Hetfield and Trujillo) but I listen to them almost half the time I'm at school because they're more interesting than algebra.

Tenacious D
One of the most underrated bands ever, in my opinion. People think of Jack Black as a movie star just trying to get into the music biz (Dogstar, anyone?) but he and Rage Kage are some of the best musicians I've heard in a long time. And the movie's hilarious.

Beastie Boys
Holy shit these guys kick ass. The first song I heard was Girls, which kind of turned me off to them, but I forced myself to buy Paul's Boutique, and I'm so glad I did. They're not amazing musicians, but they can make a joke song like Triple Trouble and then turn around and do An Open Letter to NYC (both on To the Five Boroughs, not their best, but still awesome). Mix Master Mike makes me want to rip my clothes off he's so rad.

Soundgarden
I love them more than my balls, and I love my balls. Cornell can scream like no other, and Thayil is just so awesome. Those guys made magic when they played, and the Superunknown album is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.

1. Pink Floyd - deep, thought provoking lyrics. Soul moving guitar solos. Smooth, relaxing Keyboards. Everything about them is amazing. maybe only one sub-par album with the final cut
2. Between the Buried and Me - Most unappreciated band I've ever heard. People that know about them LOVE them. Unrivaled musical talent. Beautiful inventive riffs. Gut wrenching throat screaming contrasted by unbelievably smooth vocals. the album Colors changed my life
3. Led Zeppelin - A common favourite. True fans of music love and respect Led Zeppelin. Incredible talent. Robert Plant's vocals just take you over. Page's guitar playing is GODLY. As for Bonham? Just listen to Moby Dick. John Paul Jones was incredibly underrated as a bassist. You can't help but see their influence in today's music.
4. Muse - Deep Lyrics. Smooth sound at times. Erractic sound at other times. Crazy effects. DID NOT WRITE A BAD SONG.
5. I could put alot of bands here. The Beatles maybe. Maybe Tool. Could be System of a Down. Queen would be a good choice too. Or maybe David Bowie. Metallica could work also. the point is i've got a clear top 4 but no #5.

It'll be kind of hard narrowing it down to five, but I suppose I'll try.

1. Coheed and Cambria - Ever since they came out, I have loved them. Although I was disapointed with their newest album, I liked the previous ones enough to look the other way this time. Can't wait for the next album...
Favourite Track: Everything Evil (Demo)

2. Modest Mouse - I have only heard two of their albums (one of which I am listening to as I write this), but what I have heard is great. There are really no songs that I've heard that I haven't liked. By far the best indie music out there.
Favourite Track: Parting of the Sensory

3. System of a Down - S.O.A.D. has taken up so much of my life that I had to put them on here. Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian work together masterfully (well, apparently not as well as I could have hoped, seeing how they are on a seemingly permanent hiatus). Serj's solo stuff was good too, despite its more political view.
Favourite Track: I E A I A I O

4. My Chemical Romance - Most people think of MCR as "emo shit", but it isn't actually bad. All of their work is pretty good. No matter how many times I stop listening to them, I always find myself coming back.
Favourite Track: Cemetery Drive

5. Death Cab for Cutie - Of the five, I have heard Death Cab for Cutie the least, which just shows how good they are. There are plenty of bands that I have listened to for years that I could put on here, but after listening to them for a few weeks, they are within my favorite 5.
Favourite Track: I'll Follow You Into The Dark

Staind-No matter what goes on in life, they seem to make songs that reflect how i feel. Even when nothings wrong they have songs that you can just rock the fuck out to for a good ass time.
Favourite Song: Outside

Lil Wayne-I've already caught alot of slack for liking him but i dont care. I think he has to have one of the most brilliant minds in Hip-Hop today. Any track that he gets on he just goes so hard on it every time, and theres never a dull moment when listing to him.
Favorite Song: I'm a Monster

Linkin Park-Now this band has to be my second favorite rock band of all time, there so good that they made a CD with a RAP artist and made it amazing. They mixed two lead singers, one that raps and one thats more of a screamo type, and formed one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
Favorite Song: Somewhere I Belong

Slipknot-Best Rock band EVER, Whether there singing hardcore songs like "Before I Forget," or "Pulse of the Maggots," or their singing soft songs like "Vermillion pt. 2," or "Danger, Keep Away" they just make it amazing, wich is hard to do for a bad with a mainly metal fan base.
Favourite Song: When All Hope is Gone

Eminem-Now this man is a lyrical fucking genius. As much as i love Lil Wayne, he blows Wayne out of the water with his technique and lyrical flow. To come up as a poor white kid from the hoods of Detroit to the most famous and succesful white rapper that even the black community accepts as one of their own is just the start. He expresses his life, trials, and tribulations so good in his music that listing to it just takes your shitty day away and just gives you that sense of peace.
Favourite Song: Rock Bottom

1. Coldplay
This is the only band I practically like every song of. I love Chris Martins voice and the music just relaxes me.

2. Infected Mushroom
Awesome, whacky sounds, great music.

3. Pink Floyd
Beautiful lyrics, crazy guitar solos, they're fantastic. I prefer the later songs over the strange Syd Barrett songs though.

4. Bob Dylan
Even though I only like a few of his songs, they are that good that he deserves a place in my top 5.

5. Muse
Matthew Bellamy is a great singer and a good guitarplayer. Also, I like their style. Distorted guitars, but still melody.

The Clash - Definitely my favourite band of all time. Lyrically, they're absolutely brilliant, and they cover a wide variety of genres. I'm a fan of all their songs (even the ones Mick wrote), but especially 'Death or Glory', 'Washington Bullets' and 'Koka Kola'.

Dinosaur Jr. – Kickass rock music plain and simple, with a sound seldom replicated by any up and coming indie bands of today. Great to listen to when driving. 'Freak Scene' is one of my favorite songs.

My Bloody Valentine – Chaotic, yet melodic awesomeness, with lyrics mostly about sex. What's not to love? Favourite song (at the moment) is 'Cupid Come'.

The New Pornographers - totally infectious, unpretentious pop music, accessible to anyone. 'The Laws Have Changed' and 'All for Swinging You Around' are particularly great songs.

Rancid - Another excellent punk/ska/rockabilly band, similar in many ways to The Clash (in fact, I think they actually started out as a Clash cover band.) Also, Tim Armstrong is an incredible bassist. Favorite song is probably 'Time Bomb'.

Honorable mentions go to The Stone Roses, Gang of Four and Primus.

Damn. I don't usually like any one band. Just their songs. Nevertheless, here are some bands/artists I do like (in no particular order):

Breaking Benjamin
I first hear them on this Half-Life music video for their song 'So Cold'. The video was completely awesome, and I though the song was awesome too. Well half an hour of music hunting and I have a couple of their albums in my library. I like their music, and I like Ben Burnley's voice.
Third Eye Blind
Hah, my brother and sister are to blame for this. I remember there was this one summer where they were both just singing 'Slow Motion' which has some really weird lyrics if you don't know what the song's about. They got me into their music. I thank them.
Jay Brannan
He's pretty good for a YouTube-musician-guy. I love his videos cause every time he sings he usually makes really weird facial expressions because of the lyrics of his song. He's pretty hot to boot. Too bad he's gay :frown:
Dallas Green
Love his acoustic stuff.
Foo Fighters
'Everlong' is one of my favorite songs ever. I just finished learning it on guitar and I'm absolutely phsyched even though it was really easy. I suck at guitar. Also, love Dave Grohl's voice.

Deftones
Brilliantly creepy band, they've yet to stick out a bad record. The drumming is inspirational and the singing is out of this world.
R.E.M.
The first band I ever really got into, they introduced me to music. Automatic For The People is an (almost) flawless record.
In Flames
Yeah, I'm an In Flames fanboy. I like all their records, even STYE (which contains some of their best songs, its just full of filler). IN FLAMES WE TRUST.
The Butterfly Effect
Whoo, an Aussie band! Clint Boge is one my favourite vocalists, he has such a heavenly voice. The whole album, Imago, is a massive emotional experience.
Thrice/Underoath/Protest The Hero
This was a hard choice...by now I'm at a point where there are no more artists I REALLY like everything I've heard by them. Thrice's Alchemy Index's were a phenominally good set of disks. Underoath's new album Lost in the Sound of Separation is now my favourite record of all time. Protest The Hero's Kezia is again, a ridiculously good record (too bad their followup was crap).

White Pony is mad, and their first release (forget the name) is pretty cool too. The rest seem to be average. Am I missing something?

I thought so too, at first. Give it a chance, listen to it a coupla times, and you may start to enjoy it. The clean "Sixty feathers plucked from sparrows' wings" section in Bone Marrow is a particular favourite of mine, as is the opening couple of riffs in Goddess Bound, and the 'Ghostbusters' riff (that's how I describe it, anyway) in the middle is pretty cool too.

Both Adrenalize and Around the Fur are excellent albums. White Pony was good but it didn't top the first few releases and their albums have gotten less and less interesting. I guess I am biased because I saw them on their first US tour back when Chino was thin and could still sing.

I looked into it, and Adrenaline was the first album I mentioned liking, and Around the Fur is the other I liked, not White Pony. Though White Pony also has some decent songs. But yeah, as far as I can tell, bar those 3, their albums are crappy.

Green Day
Love the punk sound on all their albums, they're not afraid to say what they want to. They have great percussion, guitar, bass and vocals. They're great on stage, too. There's no Green Day song out there that I don't like.

Sum 41
I like their sound, and they often sing about being lazy, which is definitely something I can relate to. :D

Blink 182
I like the sound of Mark & Tom's voices, and what they sing about, because I'm not too mature either. :P

Three Days Grace
I like the sound of the guitars and percussion, plus Adam's voice has a lot of mystery to it.

Sugarcult
I don't know I just like them. :P and I needed another band to fill up this space.

Trivium I've seen them live twice, supporting Machine Head and Slayer and for a band to almost outdo either of these 2 fucking giants on stage, particularly when half the crowd seem to have never heard of Trivium, it really says something about their live performance. And I don't know what it is about their CDs but i even loved The Crusade

Rise Against They've got some brilliantly written lyrics that always seem to stick in my head, and just listening to them always gets me back in a good mood after a shit day.

Blink 182 I've loved them since I first listened to them, from songs like Fuck A Dog to I'm Lost Without You, they're simply brilliant. They're also the only band i'm listing that I didn't get to see live which is a shame.

Angels & Airwaves Tom DeLonge isn't as awesome as he used to be but he is a musical genius, and it really shows with AVA, a band I wanted to hate simply because of the giant change from Blink and how mature Tom had become.

Alexisonfire I don't even know what it is about them, but I really do love this band.

I'm gonna do this again because my tastes have changed alot since I last did this. So here we go, in no particular order:

Metallica: Because it's freaking Metallica and I love them, not too keen on the Load albums or St. Anger, but they still had their moments.
Favourite album: Ride the Lightening

Black Sabbath: They basically created metal and their first 5 albums are absolute classics.
Favourite album: Paranoid

Slayer: Just pure awesome heavy fookin' metal!
Favourite album: Seasons in the Abyss

Morbid Angel: My favourite death metal band, and Alters of Madness is my favourite death metal album, they always get me headbanging.
Favourite album: Alters of Madness

Sodom: My favourite out of the "Big 3" German thrash metal bands. I don't have a favourite album by them because I haven't dwelved into them as much as I'd like to, but they are awesome.

Honourable mentions:

Grave: Awesome swedish death metal.
Carcass: Fucking pioneers of the death metal sound.
Lord/Dungeon: Lord Tim is an Australian metal god.
Candlemass: Awesome doom metal.
Mortal Sin: Great Aussie thrash band who put on an awesome, energetic live show.
