I know there was something similar to this in G&S but unlike that thread I don't plan to exclude anyone from this thread based on their music tastes.
I think it's quite self-explanatory, post your all time favourite bands or artists here with a little explanation as to why you like them. I think it's interesting to see others people's music tastes.
Here are mine, in no particular order:
Motörhead: I have been a fan of Motörhead's music since I was a young(er) girl and my dad was playing their CD once in the car. I have him to blame really for getting me into them, but I'm glad he did. I find their music amazing and it's perfect for playing loudly to piss off chavs on tubes and buses! I have also been known to dance round my room like an idiot to Motörhead.
Favourite song: Step Down
Britney Spears: Say what you like about her personal life, I still adore Britney's msuic. I was a fan when she first made it big, and I feel now that her music has matured with her fans after listening to her most recent album. Her msuic always cheers me up and makes me dance wherever I am.
Favourite song: Freakshow or Piece of Me
Amy Winehouse: Yet another female solo artist with a troubled personal life, but her voice is amazing. I could listen to her all day, and have done so before. Even though I listen to her a lot, I still sometimes get shivers down my spine listening to her voice, I think she's amazing.
Favourite song: Back To Black
Calvin Harris: This guy's voice makes me melt. Combine that with his funky tunes and I'm in heaven listening to his music. He also makes me dance wherever I am, I can't help it. I used to have "Acceptable in the 80s" as my text message tone and whenever I got a text I used to start dancing wherever I was. I think he's fantastic
Favourite song: Vegas, I Created Disco or Acceptable in the 80s
Snow Patrol: I love Snow Patrol so much. Their lyrics are so thoughtful and their music is almost haunting sometimes, but in a good way. Whenever I listen to them I have a tendency to sit up and forget what I was doing just so I can listen to the lyrics and appreciate it. "Run" does have a habit of making me burst into tears wherever I am though!
Favourite song: Run (despite the above mentioned fact!)

Grateful Dead: One of the most talented bands of all time in my opinion as well as one of the best. I have a lot of stuff that fits here but isn't Dead, like RatDog, JGB, Jerry and Grisman, and others.
Jethro Tull
moe.
Bob Dylan
Disco Biscuits
On Friday I downloaded three concerts from New Monsoon, Railroad Earth, and Tea Leaf Green and all three of those bands are amazing and soon I may have a different top 5.

My role model in life and an amazing musician.
favorite song "Saving Us"
Against Me!
Tom Gabel says what you want to say in better wording.
"Justin"
Hellogoodbye
Oh come on, you can't tell me you don't tap your fingers to "Here (in your arms)."
Blue October
I just really like their sad yet happy look on life.
"Congradulations" is such a good song me and my girly friend Amber are doing a duet for it.
Hollywood Undead
I bet you didn't expect to see them. I like how they never brag when they rap and sing and scream, like in these lyrics: "Sick with myself, but I've got no one else,
so I give it to myself it's the only thing that helps"

It's so hard to make a list like this, as it always changes for me, it's not really in any order but here goes:
Devo - These guys have it all, outlandish outfits, interesting music, and their unique philosophy about how society is actually devolving, not evolving. These guys get pegged as a New Wave "One hit wonder" with Whip It, but they are so much more amazing if you listen to their albums.
Motorhead - Great choice Nat. Lemmy Killmeister is a rock icon. The music has influenced almost every great rock and metal band since. It's high energy, tongue and cheek, balls out rock and roll and I love every minute of it.
Pink Floyd - These guys will always have a special place for me. Absolutely amazing songwriting and musicianship. Albums they have made almost 40 years ago still sound fresh and/or fresher than many bands coming out today.
Prince - Say what you will, but Prince is one of the greatest performers of that last 20 years. I've seen him live twice and have yet to see any stage show come close. The man can play something ridiculous like 40 instruments, sing, dance, choregraph, and design fashion and stage shows. His raunchy lyrics, bizarre persona, and catchy tunes make him an endearing artist. Even after all the hits (not just his own but the many he wrote for others) he still can sing, play, and write with the best of them.
Parliament - The most sampled band ever, that's Parliament/P-Funk/Funkaldelic/P-Funk Allstars/George Clinton etc etc. Their unique brand of R&B and Soul music changed the genre and had everyone listening. Their gigantic band, crazy outfits and world class musicians (George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrel anyone?) set them apart from all acts at the time and had a direct influence on rap/hip hop. These guys are truly endearing and original, continuing to tour to this day.
Honorable mention:
Primus - Les Claypool has been an inspiration for me playing bass since the 8th grade when I first heard Pork Soda. He's gone on to make many other albums with some of the finest musicians to date.
Beck - A true original, i've been into him since Mellow Gold and will always buy anything he puts out. True genius.
Slayer - SLAYER!

Test Icicles- fav. song; Circle Square Triangle or All You Need is Blood
LCD Soundsystem- fav. song; Disco Infiltrator
Animal Collective- fav. song; We Tigers
DJ Shadow- fav. song; Organ Donor
Regina Spektor- fav. song; Loveology
That's about right.. for now. I bet I'll change my mind in like two minutes though. Five is so restrictive :frown:
e: Quaddy's right. Arcade Fire deserve a mention, along with Interpol, The Avalanches, Babyshambles, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Air, Tegan and Sara, and Brand New (sorry, I know "5 bands" but I had to).
Dresden
01-27-2008, 11:27 AM
Here's my favorite five at the moment, in no particular order (except Flogging Molly is my all-time favorite):
Flogging Molly ~ Irish folk-rock band. Need I say more? Listening to them just makes you want to jump in a mosh pit. Hehe.
The Dresden Dolls ~ not sure what to say about them... but they're really good
Death Cab for Cutie ~ just started listening to them about a week ago, but I love their music. Good for if you're just sitting around -- their stuff is very mellow, slow, for the most part
Green Day ~ I've loved them since I was like 9. They're just a kickass rock band. And btw, all those people that only started liking them after American Idiot came out aren't real fans. Bah!
Trans-Siberian Orchestra ~ They are the perfect mix of classical music and rock. They can make boring old Christmas music sound, for lack of a better phrase, fucking amazing! Plus their concerts have insane light shows to go with their awesome music

Metallica: Say what you want, this is the best band ever. I can proudly say I can sing along almost every one of their songs (with maybe an exception of 5). Too bad Reload isn't really a good album and St. Anger sucks, they still rock. From their Thrash to Rock orientated periods.
Atheist: Technical Death Metal with Jazz influences. These guys are one of the pioneers of Technical Death Metal. From their first Thrash oriented album and their second Tech Death oriented album to their third Jazz Death oriented album, they're fucking great.
Cynic: Progressive Technical Metal. Their music is so complex, but so good. The vocals consist of one heavy grunting voice and a voice box connected to a keyboard, which makes a beatiful sound. They made only one album when they split but they're back together now (they're going to record a second one!). They're also in discussion with Atheist for a tour together!
Quadros
01-27-2008, 1:15 PM
You forgot Arcade Fire Aoife.
Blink 182
Fuck you guys, I love blink. they prove that music doesn't have to be difficult or complicated in order to be good. All their songs are great or at least good, and whilst their last album was a bad way to go (shut the fuck up, just because it's a cliche doesn't mean a band's latest stuff isn't worse that their earlier stuff) I still think it kicks the ass of most other albums released that year. Blink are awesome.
Less Than Jake
Less than jake are the most fun band I've ever come across. Even their sad songs are happy, and their pace is ridiculously good. It's prefect running music, and if you're ever down you can whack on one of their albums and you'll be smiling within minutes. Fact.
Anti Flag
Sure they preach too much. But they're THE definitive punk rock band of our generation and their unity and chemistry as a band is just intoxicating. They play so well together, masking inadequacies in the unintelligence of the guitar, the unremarkableness of the voices and the relentlessness of the drums (their bassist is like a god of the instrument though). It doesn't matter that they're not the most individually talented musicians, it's the unity and chemisty they have when they play together that makes them so spectacular.
Adequate Seven
Funk punk with some ska ricking around there somewhere? Awesome. They're truly different, and their live shows were fucking incredible. When they split up it was the worst part of my year. They just have this incredble energy that they just unleash on you. It's fucking amazing.
Brand New
Brand New are a band who defy classification. They've made a near perfect 'pop punk' album, a near perfect 'emo' ablum and a near perfect 'holy shit our frontman's gone batshit insane' album. They are the masters of holding back and building up to a massive release of musical tension. And they're superb live.
Hats of!

1, Pink Floyd
Why? Well, they've got Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Meddle, The Wall etc. A great band from the start with Syd Barrett to a giant stage-band. I love all of the eras, Syds music is witty and fun. I love Atom Heart Mother Suite and all of that periods music. When we come to their mainstream succes I've got nothing bad to say. Although, The Wall can be abit to depressing it got some great tunes and lyrics.
2, Genesis
Peter fu**ing Gabriel is the best frontman a band can ever have. I don't care how good of a singer Ian Gillian is or how handsome Freddie Mercury is. And to that, ad Phil Collins as a great drummer, Steve Hackett as an amazing lead-guitarist, Tony Banks as a talented pianist and Mike Rutherfords rythm. Such albums as Foxtrot or Selling England by the Pound will always find a place within my heart. To bad they had to go pop in the 80's.
3, Supertramp
Supertamp is a great progressive rockband much like Genesis or Pink Floyd. All in the band are great at their pianos and keyboards. Such songs as Crime of the Century or Fool's Overture shows what you can do with great lyrics and music.
4, Marillion
Marillion is one of those bands that in the 80's managed to create some hit-singels. Such songs as Forgotten Sons, Chelsea Monday, Script for a Jester's Tear or Childhood's End is a great example of progressive rock before it's turn to metal. And the most impressive is that they did all of these after the punk destroyed most of the good rock (although, I love Patti Smith and The Clash).
5, Jethro Tull
One word, flutes.

1.Taking Back Sunday
Their sound is really well toned and it's been getting better and better with each album.
Favorite song: A Decade Under The Influence
2.Mayday Parade
Their lyrics are truly amazing.
Favorite song: Champagne's For Celebrating (I'll Have A Martini)
3.Daphne Loves Derby
I love their acoustic songs
Favorite Song: Sun
4.Brand New
Gods.
Favorite song: Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades
5.Greeley Estates
Favorite song: Y'all With The Vampire Squad?
1. Tegan and Sara
They have an original sound and pretty good lyrics. I've been listening to them for 3 years with no end in sight. I don't ever see getting sick of them.
2. Alexisonfire
Amazing lyrics. Although I've been moving away from hardcore and screamo, I still love this band. And they're really good live.
3. Wintersleep
Really good vocals, really good instrumentals.
4. Sufjan Stevens
You HAVE to listen to Chicago. It's on the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack.
5. Justice
You've probably heard them on the Telus commercials. They're probably my favourite band for electronica.
Other bands I love right now:
Sweet Thing (listen to Change of Seasons on their Myspace)
The New Pornographers (listen to Challengers, great song.)

1.Taking Back Sunday

I love Taking Back Sunday, but no it hasn't. I very much doubt they'll ever equal or better tell all your friends. All their best songs are on that album, and whilst their later albums are good, they're not anything of Tell all your Friends.

4. Sufjan Stevens
You HAVE to listen to Chicago. It's on the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack.
Yeah, I just downloaded some Sufjan Stevens. Haven't listened a ton to it, but it seems pretty good.
And Little Miss Sunshine = good movie. Only saw it once, but I definitely want to see it again.
In no particular order:
The Crystal Method
Just great techno-industrial music, good for dancing and stuff. Also, they do remixes of rock songs, which is cool.
Bullets and Octane
Just found them a few months ago but they have great unique punk rock sound that's quickly growing on me.
Foo Fighters
So they're pretty (okay, really) mainstream rock but I still love them. Going to see them in Feb.
Metallica
win.
Nine Inch Nails
Say what you want about Trent but I love listening to his music.
Nirvana
Kurt may not have been great at lead, but he was creative and had a voice that is so unique.
The Bryte
Swedish rockers that haven't released an album yet, but already sound so good. They easily have some top spots for favorite songs right now. Check out their myspace page!
Top 7 okay?
Alexisonfire: I've loved them for the longest time and I still love their sound. They have the best screamo, imo, out there and they are all out amazing.
Ray Lamontagne: I haven't been a fan for a long time, but man is this guy great, he has so much emotion in his voice and even though he's almost always quiet, he gets to you like any loud person could.
Sufjan Stevens: He has such an awesome folk-ish sound that you can't usually find with his level of lyrics. Great songwriter.
Death Cab for Cutie: Great music if you like the mellow and moving sounds of a band that knows how to play the hell out of their instruments.
Minus the Bear: Wicked sound that pretty much no-one else has. If you want something cool, they are the ones to go to.
I have so many other great bands that deserve to be on this list, but those 5 will suffice for now. I love music :D

Wow, looks like we have almost the same taste in music. I used to be really into Death Cab, but not so much anymore because I started listening to the lyrics. All of their songs have really stupid, badly written lyrics. I still love the instrumentals though. My favourites are 'Marching Bands of Manhattan' and 'Different Names for the Same Thing.'

At the moment:
Birdy Nam Nam - DJ Shadow x 4.
Binary Star - You've never heard two MCs spit like this. Ever.
Squarepusher - Picked up Ultravisitor again recently. Holy crap this man is amazing.
Ratatat - Great mix of rock and electronica.
Joel Hoekstra - Top notch musician who writes the most wacky prog rock you will ever hear in your life.

System of a Down
I've loved them ever since I heard my brother listening to 'Sugar' when I was 7.
Rise Against
These guys will always be one of my favourites. Amazing lyrics and awesome guitar riffs. Plus when I saw them live they were absolutely perfect.
The Hot Lies
Australian band, I picked up their album Ringing in the Sane when it first came out and I listened to it for a month straight.
Anti-Flag
Their songs are just so darn catchy.
NOFX
Awesome.
Also: Bad Religion, Black Flag, Chiodos, The Misfits, From First to Last and City and Colour.

The Moldy Peaches/Kimya Dawson
I first heard them when I was looking at music from the Juno soundtrack. Now I'm obsessed.
Favorite song: Anyone Else But You/Loose lips
Bishop Allen
I was trying to pick one of their really good songs but I like them all so much. So a few of the really good ones are Rain, The New From Your Bed, Butterfly Nets, Things Are What You Make Of Them, and Click, Click, Click, Click. I found them in a magazine.
The New Pornographers
I have and will always love them. I think their older stuff is better but.
Favorite song: Challengers
Architecture In Helsinki
A friend told me about them then I forgot about it. I saw them on myspace and downloaded some of their songs. Now I own all their albums.
Favorite song: It'5! or Hold Music
Mother Mother
I first heard them at Virgin Festival. They are the best live, better then any other band I've heard live in my opinion.
Favorite song: Polynesia
EDIT: I listen to a lot of electronica but I don't really have any good bands to mention. Except Shout Out Out Out Out.
I also love The Shins! I always forget about them.

*whoops..missed the part about explaining...
I can't just pick favorites, but the top five in my shuffler right now are:
Fred Morrison (http://youtube.com/watch?v=fGB6QaDRi7E) --This man is a musical genius, and my personal hero! A master of more instruments than I can count on my hands, and his improvisation is legendary!
Martyn Bennett (http://realworldrecords.com/grit/?id=ecard) -- Best electronic/traditional blend you'll ever find. Sad he passed away just a few years ago.
The Levellers (http://youtube.com/watch?v=KL-hhp0tI7I) -- Hippy Rock at its best! These guys have been around since forever.
Gordon Duncan (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GlTxTCxgG7g) -- Quite possibly one of the greatest pipers that ever lived. Sadly, he's not around anymore either.
Mark Saul (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NcUUDuj-4o) -- Simu-techno on Bagpipes! Just plain fun to listen to.

1. QOTSA
Queens Of The Stone Age have the perfect sound of a well put together rock band, that manages to pull off whatever they plan extremely well. There isn't an album I dont enjoy.
Favorite song: Song For The Dead
2. Grape Digging Sharon Fruits
A neat, just-for-fun band that would become serious about what they are doing if given a chance to become big. They have an interesting sound, that can only be described as the GDSF. Check Last.fm for free albums.
Favorite song: Foliage
3. Primus
What can't be said about Primus? From all out cock-rock to mellow "Coattails of a dead man"-esque songs, Primus has it all for anyone who loves rock.
Favorite song: Mama Didn't Raise No Fool
4. Locust Toybox
From the Bassist in GDSF, David Firth, comes his Non-IDM IDM solo project which infuses every song with drum & bass beats with a soft melody that will distract any stoned person into an enticed trace that can only be broken by being sober. A great and unique mix that leaves any electronic fan wanting more. And as a bonus, all albums are free! Check Last.fm
Favorite song: I Climbed Over The Fence
5. Gorillaz
Gorillaz have such a genuine, one-in-a-kind process in art, storyline and music that it has to be on this list. A mix of many genres and featured artists, Gorillaz cover everything from hip-hop with MF Doom to soft piano solos with Ike Turner. Gorillaz have their game down packed.
Favorite song: Rock It
Ziggy St. Valentine
01-28-2008, 2:29 AM
Motley Crue - My favourite band, have been since I heard Shout At The Devil, Nikki Sixx is my idol and the man who inspired me to learn to play bass.
[Favourite song: If I Die Tomorrow]
Buckcherry - Awesome rock band. Just straight up good time rock n roll, cant go wrong with it.
[Favourite song: Lit Up]
Vains Of Jenna - One of the few 'new' rock bands that I can listen to without saying 'this sucks' their sound is just cool.
[Favourite song - Baby's Got A Secret]
Slash's Snakepit - Now I know most people only know Slash from his work with Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver, but I personally think his best work came from his side-project, it's just good rock played the way its supposed to be played.
[Favourite song - Doin' Fine]
The Rolling Stones - It's the Stones, 'nuff said!
[Favourite song - Wild Horses]
Honourable mentions:
Metallica
Machine Head
Black Stone Cherry
Airbourne
I like so many different bands and genres that it was really hard to pick a top 5, so I just used the main ones I've been listening to recently.
"You can never stop listening to great music, so why stop looking?" - Nikki Sixx
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Made up very talented musicians of their craft, RHCP is funky, melodic, and rockin'. They started out with ball-busting, testosterone-pumpin', funk-in-your-face music.. but have seemed to become more musically experimental and mature throughout time, but that hasn't slowed them down a bit.
Led Zeppelin
THE rock gods of music history, Led Zeppelin changed music as it did me. Bonham is a drumming legend, as is Page with guitar, and the underrated Jones as bass. Plant is the perfect vocalist also; matching the guitars high notes and swells. Although they ended abruptly with Bonham's death, they still left behind a shit load of better music than bands who have been together for decades could do.
Beck
A musical genius, Beck conquers different styles almost every album and makes you wonder how he does it.
The Raconteurs
Jack White's side-project that mixes blues and rock to form a unique sound. I would say they are superior to the White Stripes in talent and music. Brenden Benson and White combine musical writing to create beautiful melodies, hard rock, and bluesy grooves.
Radiohead
Being one of the most creative, critically praised, and experimental bands of our generation, Radiohead definitely makes it on my top list. I have all of their albums (except the first, Pablo Honey) and they all sound unique and different from each other. They are true artists.
Honorable Mentions
Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Modest Mouse, Then Shins, Pixies, Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante.

In Flames - their old albums were great, melodic death metal. Their newer albums were a more metalcore sound though, but I hope the new album coming out would be better.
Children of Bodom - I love their song structure, all of their songs are fast paced and get me excited over nothing and when you think it couldn't get better, Alexi dishes out a brutal solo yet harmonic.
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin is awesome. You wouldn't ever have guessed that the singer from this band is female. Also one of the bands that wanted me to start playing guitar.
Avenged Sevenfold - hey laugh at me you faggots. Synyster Gates' guitaring on the songs on all their albums (except for the shitty new one) actually wanted me to starting playing guitar (again, but this one was pretty much 50% why I wanted to play). Who fucking cares if its mainstream, if its good then I like it.
The Beatles/John Lennon - No explanation needed.

Scrolling through the thread, I noticed that I don't actually have a top 5, just bands that I listen to - a lot!
And most of them are listed here - so I'll try and pick 5, and then an 'Honourable mention' list too.
Simon & Garfunkel
Nine Inch Nails
Metallica
They Might Be Giants
SOAD.
And now a few others:
Immortal Technique
Dresden Dolls
Moldy Peaches
Arrogant Worms
Slayer
Guano Apes
Damien Rice
Traveling Wilburys
Kila
Machine Head
Dammit - I know there's a lot more, but I only just woke up!
Radiohead:
No matter where I am, what mood I'm in, who's around me, I can ALWAYS listen to Radiohead. Every album they put out, they change their musical style drastically, trying new things with their sound. The unique guitar riffs of Johnny Greenwood mixed with the sweet sweet falsetto voice of Thom Yorke along with the weird buzz of different synth noises make for some of the most powerful, meaningful songs I have ever heard.
Nine Inch Nails:
I've been a long time fan of NIN. Something about the angry lyrics and vocals Trent Reznor provides makes me attracted to his music. (too lazy to write more of a desc.)
Bright Eyes:
Although changing his musical style more country/folk (although I really like his new stuff, and I like how he's maturing from "whiney little boy") then it was before, Conor Oberst delivers some of the most sad, depressing music I have ever heard. If I'm ever feeling down, I can listen to BE and realize someone's life sucks more then mine and feel better! joking.
Rage Against the Machine:
I don't know what it is I love about RATM. Maybe it's because it's the funkiest rap/rock I've ever heard. They pull off anything they do so well, and I really hope Tom, Zak and the rest of the doods make a new album. Zak had so much to say and never got to really say it all.
Damien Rice:
Acoustic shit is da bomb yo. I got tired and am too lazy to write a review.
Although all of these artists arn't my absolute fave, they frequent my recently played playlist.

I haven't listening to Damien Rice for ages, since I lost a lot of music when my laptop had to be reformatted. The mentions of him make me want to listen to him again because he is amazing.
This is my honourable mentions list by the way:
- Kate Nash
- Scissor Sisters
- Jack Penate
- Eagles of Death Metal
- Queens of the Stone Age
- Amateur Transplants
- Nirvana
- Maroon 5
- Scouting For Girls

A lot of people here (here being Ireland) still love Damien Rice (or Damo, as he's sometimes referred to), but are a little pissed off that he rode the wave created by 'O' for so long, without releasing anything new.
Marilyn Manson, Biohazard, Bad Religion and Pantera are some of the others I forgot about earlier.

Streetlight Manifesto: this is the band that introduced me to ska. and i love it. they have really catchy horn lines, lyrics to make you think, and an upbeat tempo that make you feel like you'll die if you dont get up and skank
Sublime: unbelieveable talent in those boys. their songs are usually meant to be funny, but almost always relate to issues from their time. the approach to it is great.
Anti-Flag: good solid modern punk-rock. i love protest music. of course, the older stuff is better though
Spinal Tap: these guys were actually pretty successful considering that they started as a spoof band for a movie. they managed to record the soundtrack for their movie and write another album afterwards. shows what talent, dedication, and hard work can do for you
and of course, there are tons more... but those are my five for right now
Bloc Party
TSOL
Bad Brains
Beastie Boys
Suicidal Tendencies
An inaccurate and incomplete list, but I tried my best.
A lot of people here (here being Ireland) still love Damien Rice (or Damo, as he's sometimes referred to), but are a little pissed off that he rode the wave created by 'O' for so long, without releasing anything new.
And the fact that he gave Lisa Hannigan no credit whatsoever for the vocals she did on 9 Crimes. He is pretty fantastic though, even if he is a jackass. Same with Snow Patrol frontman, Gary Lightbody.

I went to 'When Bush Came To Shove' in Vicar St.in June '04, and when Rice came out, there was applause. Whne Lisa started singing the place erupted!!
Check out Vyvienne Long on youtube - she has a great song, think it's called Never Leave You....

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers Greatest band ever...(Californication; Suck My Kiss; Give It Away)
2) Beatsteaks My favorites in punkrock from Germany (Atomic Love; Hand In Hand; As I Please)
3) Babyshambles Pete Doherty can do the drugs as much as he likes, as long as he makes more of those fantastic lyrics. (Deft Left Hand; Crumb Begging; Delivery)
4) The Hives Just a great and original live act from Sweden. I will see them on 27. March in my hometown. (Walk Idiot Walk; Tick Tick Boom)
5) Franz Ferdinand Nice indypunk from Scotland (I was on a concert in Glasgow) (my fav: "Take Me Out; The Fallen")
6) Die Ärzte Good german punk music (Unrockbar; Junge)
7) Gorillaz Nice chill music :D (Dare; Feel Good Inc; Dirty Harry)
8) Billy Talent punk music from canada, great guitarriffs (Standing In The Rain; Red Flag; River Below)
9) Mad Caddies Allround favorites (best song ever: Backyard)
10) Arctic Monkeys My favorite: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Battles - Great new band that released their debut a few months ago. Intense, complex, danceable, utterly enjoyable. Fave track: "Atlas"
Pixies - saw them live in 2004 and was totally blown away. You just can't go wrong with so many songs about incest and aliens. Fave track: "Where is my mind?"
Radiohead - goosebump-inducing, just stunningly beautiful music. Fave track: Too many to mention
Mr. Bungle - One of Mike Patton's projects stemming back to his days before he joined Faith No More. How this lot managed to sign stay signed to Warner Bros. for so long is one of music's greatest mysteries. Managed to mix jazz-rock-pop-death metal-musak-surf music-Indian music-noise seamlessly. No, really! Fave track: Merry Go Bye-Bye
Napalm Death - 'Nuff said. Fave track: "You Suffer", all 1.316 seconds of it!

Nirvana Favorite Song; Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Leadbelly Cover)
Guns N Roses Favorite Song;
Avenged Sevenfold Favorite Song; Second Heartbeat
Blink 182 Favorite Song; Dammit
Bright Eyes Favorite song; A Perfect Sonnet
Eh, typical? I don't care. I like a lot more music outside of them, but those were the first artists/songs to pop into my head.
These are my favorite.
Elysia (Incinerate and Triumph)
Annotations of an Autopsy (Welcome to Sludge City and Serpents)
My Bitter End (Becoming Misfortune and The Suburbs Breed Showmen)
Job For A Cowboy (Entombment of a Machine)
Suicide Silence (No Pity for a Coward)
The Foo Fighters - They have such a unique sound to them. I don't know how I can listen to their tracks over and over again and not grow tired. They have a sound balance of acoustic and rock capabilities and are my inspiration for playing music. Havent seen them live because of exams. I will in the future hopefully.
> Favourite Songs: Come back, Learn to Fly, Razor, 'Hey, Johnny Park!'
Muse - Yep, I've seen these bad boys live and they blew me away. I love how it sounds like, if not better than the actual recordings. Catchy riffs and cool effects don't go a miss.
> Favourite song: Newborn (OOS #1).
Green Day - One of my first favourite bands that I didn't end up hating as I got older. I prefer the Warning/Insomniac days but I can listen to some of the new stuff. Always wanted to go and see them play live. I'm heading to leeds and they should be playing. Hopefully they won't play too much from AI.
> Favourite song: Hitchin' A Ride, Longview, Armatage Shanks
Tenacious D - Saw the D live too. I enjoy listening to the crazy acoustic-accompanied rantings of Jack Black. Also good to learn on guitar too.
> Favourite song: City Hall.
QOTSA - I like this band quite abit. I don't know so much about them but I like the music. Songs for the Deaf was a great album to buy with my birthday money.
> Favourite songs: No One Knows, First it Giveth, Mosquito Song.

Constantly changing.
At the moment:
Weezer:
Ohhhh weee ohhhh I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh oh and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I lied, Weezer will never change out of this list.
Cascada:
Fuck you, eurodance is awesome.
Three Days Grace:
Love their acoustic guitar stylings. Awesome stuff.
Five Finger Death Punch:
Good shit, even if I'm not a huge fan of scream-o.
Journey:
Classic.
Binary Star - You've never heard two MCs spit like this. Ever.
Master of the universe is one of my favorite songs
Yeah they're in my top five favorite along with:
Atmosphere- this groups makes emo rap but they're so good at telling stories and displaying emotion that I can't stop listening. The MC slug is easily one of the best to ever do it from a poetic standpoint
Jedi Mind Tricks- another rap group but they make music almost the opposite of what atmosphere makes. Their style is like punching you in the mouth and getting in your face. their beats always kick ass and the dark humor in the lyrics are why i like them so much.
Nas- Probably the greatest rapper of all-time. He lyrics are always ridiculously good even on some of his mediocre albums. He can tell a story as well as anybody and his braggadocio rap makes you think. He also made one of the greates albums ever Illmatic.
Cafe Tacuba- a mexican band that makes music from a huge selection of genres from metal to 50's styles love ballads. they have so much variety that listening to any of their albums is fun and never boring. all their stuff is in Spanish but even if you don't understand their music is awesome.
These top five would change anyday but these are some of my favorites.

Just like everybody said these are temporary (except really for the Dead, Tull, and Dylan)
Here are my favorite songs (which fluctuate more than the bands) from each:
Grateful Dead (and offshoots):
Throwing Stones, Promontory Rider, Brown-Eyed Woman, Box of Rain, Weather Report Suite (the whole thing), Mexicali Blues, Cumberland Blues, Jack Straw, Morning Dew, Me & My Uncle, Not Fade Away, Going Down the Road Feeling Bad, Dark Hallow, Uncle John's Band, Greatest Story Ever Told, Jack-A-Roe, and Dire Wolf (don't complain was hard to narrow down to only this few).
Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick, Baker St. Muse, Wind Up, and A Song for Jeffery.
moe.: New York City, The Pit, Nebraska, Wind It Up/Y Eaux Massa, Blue Jeans Pizza, and Tambourine.
Bob Dylan: Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, Subterranean Homesick Blues, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Desolation Row, Blowin' In the Wind, Queen Jane Approximately, and Highway 61 Revisited.
Disco Biscuits: Story of the World, Jigsaw Earth, The World is Spinning, and Nughuffer.
Of the three bands that I just downloaded I have a couple of songs that stand out.
Tea Leaf Green: The Garden (Part III) and Incandescent Devil
Railroad Earth: Dandelion Wine
New Monsoon: Greenhouse, Southern Dew, and On the Sun

Here are mine;
Beasteaks: Big Attack, Hand In Hand and I Don't Care As Long As You Sing.
(Germany)
Clutch: The Mob Goes Wild, Cypress Grove.
Turbonegro: Fuck The World, Sailor Man and Turbonegro Must Be Destroyed.
(Norway)
Damien Rice: The Professor, Cannonball, Lonelily and 9 crimes.
Flamboyant Bella: Crazy Cool and Absolutely Wankered.
(United Kingdom)
The Fratellis: Flathead, Chelsea Dagger and Creepin' Up The Backstairs.
(Scottland)
These are my favourite bands at the moment. I have time when I am really truely sick of them and don't listen to their music for a month or so.
Pelican Man

1. Parkway Drive
song: Mutiny
Parkway are a fucking nuts Aussie metal band, every song being brutal, and featuring some of the best chug riffs ever conceived. Purely heavy, with breakdowns that make me drool. They're the reason I love metal.
2. Breaking Benjamin
song: Polyamorous
A rock group, making my number 2 spot purely on the fact that I love every single one of their songs. They make for awesome driving music, giving my sub the workout it needs.
3. Incubus
song: Zee Deveel
Incubus are a pivotal rock group, their music leaves a lot of room for the bass to wow, and it does. Their guitar work is amazing, and an inspiration.
4. Avenged Sevenfold
song: Betrayed
A band I've liked since I started playing and enjoying music. Their newest album has pushed them back into my top 5 bands. While their early albums showcased the guitarists' songwriting talents, this newest album was written mostly by their drummer, showing talent all throughout the band.
5. The Avalanches
song: Two Hearts in 3/4 Time
The Avalanches have a strange style which I like to think of as Modern Classical mixed with Hip Hop. Hard to categorize, and their songs are always strange and don't go the normal way of making songs, but it works.

Pink Floyd
Talking Heads
The Kinks
Alice Cooper

4. The Red Paintings
5. Michael Buble

AC/DC --they will never die along with their sexual innuendos.
Led Zeppelin --second awesomest. Yes I just made up a word.
My Chemical Romance-- have you heard the song Teenagers, very nice.
Van Halen--now who doesn't love 80's rock music, with a touch of synthesizer?
Micheal Jackson--good music, not sure about his sanity.

At the moment:
Saul Williams:
Best rapper right now, in my opinion.
Portishead:
Beautiful and haunting music. Super mellow, yet powerful.
The Mars Volta:
Insanely creative and complex music, but not in a dull way.
Muse:
Pure energy. More noticeable on their earlier stuff, but their new stuff is still amazing.
Led Zeppelin:
It's Led Zeppelin. You can listen to them anytime, anywhere, no matter what the situation is.
It's really hard to pick only five. But yeah, those are it right now, off the top of my head.
As of right now:
Kaki King: Mostly instrumental guitar. Outstanding musician. I am constantly amazed at what a single woman can do with just this instrument. New album coming out soon, too!
The Blood Brothers: Hardcore/experimental/post-hardcore/etc. I really hate the kind of genres people use to define this band, but it's the broad range of genres they cross into, manipulate and reference that make them so amazing. Young Machetes is my favorite album.
Tegan and Sara: Indie. Those little lesbos sure know how to make some catchy tunes.
Forget Cassettes: Rock/indie. Tennessee-based, guitar-wielding woman-fronted rock machine. They're not really very popular, but I love every freaking track they've put out.
5th would probably be a tie between Queens of the Stone Age and San Diego's own Pinback. QotSA's new album is just awesome, I really enjoyed every track on there. Pinback's a really interesting band; they're sound is really rooted in their bass player, who's a fucking god on that thing. Step back Les Claypool, here comes Armistead Burwell Smith IV!

Lordi
I like Lordi because they have a great, unique sound for a Heavy metal band. Most people's first impressions are daemonic emo shit but they mostly sing about hot chicks while keeping the daemonic vibe. A band from Finland who won the Eurovision in 2006.
Nickelback
No need for an explanation, they're that good.
Linkin Park
Always loved these guys, always will. Great sound, good variety and their songs always have an impact.
Korn
Sometimes when I'm really pissed or had a bad day, I listen to these guys. Somehow, for me, it relieves me of my anger and stress. An unorthodox rock band in my opinion but great still.
Justin Timberlake
Who said a guy who loves rock and Heavy Metal can't listen to heart warming songs? Great guy, everyone loves him, and it helps me pick up chicks.
The Blood Brothers: Hardcore/experimental/post-hardcore/etc. I really hate the kind of genres people use to define this band, but it's the broad range of genres they cross into, manipulate and reference that make them so amazing. Young Machetes is my favorite album.
That's one of the bands I forgot to fucking mention. I've liked Blood Brothers for the past couple of years, and I even have I think... 3 of their albums. Young Machetes, Crimes and Burn Piano Island, Burn! They're a really unique band, and their music is insane.
Favourite album: Burn Piano Island, Burn!
Song: Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon
I Lick Vaginas

Cibo Matto: I have no idea what genre they are, basically because their songs change drastically song to song, so I'll just say alternative. You have to think to understand what they're trying to get across. Pretty much the entirety of their first album were analogies of emotions, using food. Their songs range from touching to quirky to downright depressing. Also, I freaking love Miho Hatori's voice.
As far as favourite songs go it's too hard to pick one. Speechless, Le Pain Perdu and Sunday Part I/II.
Butter 08: A side band by the founders of Cibo Matto, Yuka Honda and Hatori. If it weren't for Hatori's distinct accent you wouldn't be able to draw any similarities between the two bands. One word to describe them would be fun. I've got no idea what they're talking about and half the time it's intelligble anyhow, and yet I love it. Rock at its finest. How can someone not love the creator of works such as 'Butterfucker'?
Favourite song by them is Degobrah.
Brazilian Girls: Whilst their first album doesn't do much for me their second is beautiful. Alternative Electronic Pop. Some of my favourite songs by them are in entirely different languages, so lyrically I can't say much, but musically they have a great distinct sound. Their lead singer has a beautiful voice even if I don't know what shes saying. I can listen to them on any occassion.
Favourite song by them is Le Territoire.
Handsome Boy Modeling School: I'd never been a fan of hip hop, until I heard Handsome Boy Modeling School. Hell, I'm not even sure if it's really hip hop, but that's what they call it. I find most hip hop generic but Handsome Boy Modeling School basically reinvents itself every song. A different vocalist for pretty much each song, a different style. Their albums are a pretty much a look at upper-middle class white people (their first album is called 'White People'...), a parody almost. Their works are a cynical view of modern society. I don't know why I love that, but I do.
Favourite song by them is... I don't know. I can't decide between I've Been Thinkin' or Class System.
Howling Bells: Depressing. I feel like crying after listening to Howling Bells. If a band can invoke that kind of a response then it deserves to be in my top five.
Favourite song is Low Happening.
Other bands deserving of that fifth spot would be Bis, Mates of State and Young & Restless.

Green Day ~ I've loved them since I was like 9. They're just a kickass rock band. And btw, all those people that only started liking them after American Idiot came out aren't real fans. Bah!
Not true in the least. I started liking Green Day after American Idiot because I had not heard of them beforehand. However, I also like all of their albums. You could say, after their first success, Dookie, anyone who joined after that aren't real fans.
On with the list:
Green Day: I heard of the from American Idiot, but I also went and bought their other albums, I even ordered the original versions of Kerplunk! and 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. I really enjoy all of their music, they can have a happy, apathetic and meaningful songs, and they still pull it off. I'm probably the only real fan I know in person now since they've nearly dropped off the planet.
[Favorite Song: Grouch]
AFI I started liking AFI because of Decemberunderground. Again it was a hit album that got me interested in this band. I love Decemberunderground, and literally can listen to every song on it except 2. These songs generally give me a feeling of mystery. They also have song good music from their older albums, like Days of the Phoenix off of Art of Drowning. I can really relate to a lot of the songs. A lot of people call them emo, but I don't really hear the emoness of it. AFI is a genre on it's own.
Arch Enemy: I became interested in Arch enemy after hearing part of Nemesis on YouTube. This was the first time I heard death growling and I was instantly enthralled, especially since the lead singer is a woman. I like Arch Enemy better than most death metal bands because the lyrics aren't just pure filth trying to shock people. I.E No fucking of maggoty corpses or killing babies. Death metal is the only metal I like.
[Favorite Song: We Will Rise]
Fugazi: I remember I searched for punk bands and this was one of them that popped up. They are probably the most non-conformist band out there, even though they are on an indefinite break. Fugazi has a lot of excellent music and was one of the most popular bands that didn't sell out. They didn't sell any merchandise or make music videos or advertised anything.
[Favorite Song: Bed for the Scraping]
I can only really think of four because anything else I like I don't like enough to call it a favorite band.
Hella
Ephel Duath
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Between The Buried And Me
Ufomammut
That's one of the bands I forgot to fucking mention. I've liked Blood Brothers for the past couple of years, and I even have I think... 3 of their albums. Young Machetes, Crimes and Burn Piano Island, Burn! They're a really unique band, and their music is insane.
Favourite album: Burn Piano Island, Burn!
Song: Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon
I don't think I can pick a favorite song. Although I guess I'm partial to the songs where they blend drastic changes in genres. Laser Life is a really good example of this. It's a hardcore fucking song, but uses very little of what you'd expect. The song's driven by the drums and keyboard more than anything else. Giant Swan really jumps back and forth from an eerie, melodic sound to in your face thrash. Love Rhymes with Hideous Car Wreck might be at the top of the list though. The completely undistorted guitar throughout most of the song just makes me so god damn wet. I fucking love it.
5. Cream (Fav sogn: SWLABR)
4. Creedence Clearwater Revival (Fav song: Green River)
3. Black Sabbath (Fav song: Iron Man)
2. Queen (Fav song: Seven Seas of Rhye)
1. Pink Floyd (Fav song: Time)

System of a Down/Serj Tankian-Anything I say praising System of a Down would be an understatement. Your typical group of California friends who managed to impress Rick Rubin enough to get them picked up for a contract with Columbia Records. The funniest songs can be about the most serious things, and vice-versa. But one thing they definitely don't fuck around about, is the Armenian Genocide, of which all four of their Grandfathers are survivors of. But they don't sit on their asses and wait for shit to happen. They've made trips to the White House and all over the world to make sure everyone recognizes they're ancestor's tragedies. I've yet to hear Daron's Scars on Broadway project, but I'm confident that I will love it just as much
Sublime-Another group of Californian friends from Long Beach. This band is one of the ultimate party bands. If you lived in the area and you asked them to, Sublime would've played a show at your house, no doubt. Singing about whatever came their way, from drunken nights, anal jail sex, and getting dog shit on your hand, not only did their songs cover a range of topics, but also a range of genre's: hip-hop, reggae dub, ska, punk rock, acoustic, funk. No doubt that if Bradley was still alive, they would've been all over the world.
Those two bands will always remain top 2. Always.
As for the rest of the slots:
Streetlight Manifesto- Listen to a Streetlight Manifesto song. And then listen to it again. Chances are, both times you will comment about something differently. The brass section of Streetlight Manifesto is one of the tightest brass sections in a ska band that I have ever heard, and definitely very talented. Not to mention Tomas Kalnoky's super fast vocals, you'll want to listen to the same song over and over just to catch what he says! He's got alot to say, and I'm definitely listening.
Soulfly-Max Cavalera is a genius. He'll spend months looking for a certain sound he wants, traveling all over the world if he has to to find it, and it's always worth it. The idea of mixing metal elements with Brazilian tribal beats can only be perfected by someone like him. Just listen to a song like Mulambo, Back To The Primitive, or Tribe. Excellent composer.
Molotov-Their music is too good, they managed to piss off their native country of Mexico. With a rare combination of 2 bassists, a guitarist and a drummer, their songs aren't shy of toilet humor, but also contain well placed political metaphors. Like most of my favorite bands, they're just all about having fun, even if it means pulling a prank on all of their fans.
Honorable Mentions
Rammstein
Lamb of God
SLAYER
Reel Big Fish (new album fucking rocks)
Catch 22
Queens of the Stone Age
NWA
Ice Cube
Mushroomhead
Decapitated
Several others really. :indiff:
Mine changes all the time. Bands that I really took to when I was young and have still held a soft spot are:
Thrice
Jimmy Eat World
Slayer
Metallica
Brand New
Manic Street Preachers
Mr Bungle
The Get Up Kids
David Bowie
RX Bandits
NOFX
The Adolescents
etc.
Not in any particular order:
A Perfect Circle:
I love this band. They have such a distinct personality and passion in their music that just strikes a cord within me and puts me into this tranquil state in which I feel like I am in complete control of the world around me and I can feel the energy of the earth reverberating through my bones.
A Fire Inside:
I love the lyrics. I love the sound. They're a beautiful band, and the sound keeps evolving and changing, and keeps you from getting bored. While they don't have a particularly unique sound in respect to the types of music out there already, they are unique in respect to themselves and the music that they've already made.
Incubus:
Make Yourself - present. I don't really like anything before Make Yourself, because I'm much more into Alternative Rock than Metal. I feel like their more recent albums have a lot more color and personality to them compared with their earlier albums, but I respect where they came from because it contributed to the unique sound that they have that isn't usually heard in most other Alternative Rock.
The Blood Brothers
I heard about them from my brother's girlfriend and I instantly fell in love with them. This band is indescribable. They're so intense and crazy and chaotic and just what the fuck. They're like if M.C. Escher ever made a drawing of hell. I don't know. They're amazing. Camouflage, Camouflage is the single most brilliant song in the world.
The Arcade Fire:
This band has such a refreshing raw, unrefined-ness to their sound that really lets their unique style shine through and I can't help but get lost in them, along with a quirky sound that's just beautiful. They sound like an old fading color Polaroid photo.

My top five favorites change every month or two, so I'll list my current favorites:
1. Angra - Incredible Brazilian prog/speed metal band; blows Dragonforce right out of the water.
2. Ayreon - Hard to explain the exact genre of this Dutch band (actually it's one guy's group of guest musicians in each of his albums), but this Wikipedia entry explains it all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayreon
For fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, Within Temptation, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and The Gathering. Highly recommended to check out The Human Equation.
3. Devin Townsend: This guy's a genius. Frontman of Strapping Young Lad, Townsend has an extensive catalogue of albums that are all highly entertaining.
4. Dio: What can I say? Holy Diver, 'nuff said. Been digging his recent album, Master of the Moon and speaking of Dio...
5. Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath): I am really looking forward to the brand new Dio-fronted Sabbath album which comes out this year. In my opinion, Dio is a way better vocalist than Ozzy and Heaven & Hell, the album, is their best album.
If Salvador Dali was in a hardcore band they would be The Blood Brothers.

Ok... in a constantly changing order:
Tool - no, 10,000 Days didn't suck. Sure, it wasn't as good as Lateralus and AEnima, but what can you expect after two masterpieces? Amazing drumming (Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy are the best drummers ever), amazing bass, great singing, great guitar.
Fave track: Eulogy
Opeth - Progressive death metal, transitioning seamlessly from pure death metal, to acoustic rock, to jazzy stuff, to melodic metal, to everything in between, creating 10 minute plus songs consistently that NEVER get boring! A lot of people say they are hard to get into, but for me, one listen to the song "Ghost of Perdition" and i was hooked!
Fave track: The Moor
Katatonia - as sacrilegious as this statement may be, i really do not like the death-doom stuff. I prefer Viva Emptiness and The Great Cold Distance. They create heavy, emotional, pseudo-progressive, catchy metal. Doesn't get much better than this.
Fave track: The Itch
Devin Townsend - I prefer his solo work over the music made with Strapping Young Lad, simply because they are more complex songs that aren't just focused on beating every thought out of your head (which can be good from time to time). Plus, he's funny (as shown Ziltoid the Omniscient).
Fave song: Solar Winds
Rise Against - there's some nostalgia here. Amazing punk rock band, that never cease to amaze me. From their more hardcore roots, through to the equally impressive straight edge punk rock of Sufferer and the Witness, I have loved them since I first heard "Dancing for Rain" and "To Them These Streets Belong" on Siren Song of the Counter Culture.
Fave song: Survive

System of a Down - They're not really my favorite band, but I'd say that for my generation, they will be our led zeplin/Ac-Dc. Unlike many bands, (I wont name them because i don't wanna offend hardcore fans) they actually have a cause. Their lyrics aren't about random shit that doesn't matter like some girl they happen to be into at the moment, or how much money they make, or any of the superficial shit that 99% of the bands out there today write about. They are almost consistantly serious social/political commentary. Plus they rock. Even though i like to listen to A perfect circle more myself, if i had to compare the two of them, i'd have to say that System of a Down is as a whole a better band.
A perfect Circle - Their songs calm me when i'm angry...which is more often than i'd like.
Led Zeplin - Ya i know its cliche, but I love Led Zeplin. They used to beat out both A Perfect Circle and System of a down, but then I listened to stairway to heaven backwards and it sorta ruined them for me. I actually went into denial about it for a while but then eventually i phased out of it, and put them back on my top 10 list under the notion that religious ideals shouldn't effect a band's ability to kick ass.
Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) When people have heard of MSI - which is not that often - shit usually hits the fan when i say that i like them. They're one of those sorts of bands that nobody feels "just alright" about them. A small minority of people - myself included Love them with a screaming passion - but anybody else would rather be kicked in the face by a heated emu than hang out at an MSI concert. The thing that i absolutely love about MSI is that they emote so well...If i'm feeling any sort of extreme in emotion - from on top of the world to hating everything it stands for - nothing's better to scream at the top of my lungs than MSI
Tool - Again, i used to be a much bigger fan of tool - but ultimately their constant aethiesm just started to get...annoying. What I orriginally took for good clean rebelious spirit eventually equated itself to the fanz and a truck load of sharks. That's not to say ofcourse that when i'm in the mood i wouldn't listen to Tool, because i would, but ultimately i've lost alot of respect for them.
runner ups: Simon and garfunkle, the temptations, slipknot, gnr, marilyn manson, rage against the machine, Dropkick murphies

Quoted for the mother-fucking truth. System of a Down's albums consist of one or two political songs and 13 tracks of absolute gibberish that is also taken as "political/social commentary" by pretentious asses who think they've "figured them out," but really they're assuming because of the two obvious songs. System of a Down makes no fucking sense, period.
Trying to narrow it down to five bands is quite hard. But, here we go.
The Ramones
Growing up, this is all I heard in my house. My Dad went to their shows a lot when he was younger, and passed his love for them on to me. I love to just jam out to them. My daughter and I are often found dancing around to them.
From First To Last
(Pre-split only! Sonny should have never left the band.) When I write, I'm usually writing while listening to them. They're one of those bands that you can listen to when you're pissed off and need to just scream it out, or when you're being extremely goofy and feel like jamming with some friends.
The Postal Service
I was introduced to them a few years ago by my ex-boyfriend. A great band to chill out to, and just think about random stuff. Their songs are very well put together combined with great variety of musical sounds.
Sublime
Great stoner band. Although I don't smoke anymore, I still listen to them on occasion. Such a shame that Bradley had to overdose before their self-titled album was released. Imagine how much bigger they would be.
The Used
Although their newest cd makes me want to take them off this list, I absolutely love their past music. So much emotion, and Burt's voice is so unique. Lyrically, they're amazing.

1. Queen - Great voices, great lyrics...just great.
2. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - love how they take a more upbeat approach to new and old songs. I haven't heard one song by them that I dislike.
3. Blue October - One CD sounds like 5 different bands. I like the variety of sounds.
4. Mae - his voice is so soothing and comforting.
5. Tie between Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin - Crooners make my heart melt and smile at the same time.

#5 > The Tragedy of Mariam,
local band, that defiantly has a shot of going somewhere. and not just because my boyfriends the drummer, check out their myspace. www.myspace.com/thetragedyofmariam
#4 > Bright Eyes,
connor is amazing, and has amazing, and touching, lyrics. i love him, minus the fact that everyone else loves "lover i dont have to love" (sue me, i hate mainstream).
#3 > Dashboard Confessional,
one of the few fans that were fans before he made Spiderman's soundtrack.
#2 > Big Japan,
not a sellout, amazing music, and come on. anything with adam brody in it has to be amazing.
#1 > The Rocket Summer,
bryce avary is magical. and omg, so talented. his first album was my favourite, but probably just because it was before he began to sellout. his newest album (do you feel) is amazing, too.. i just hate how teeny boppers like it now.

Basically, anything in the Alternative Rock genre is amazing.
Serj Tankian: is just such an amazing artist, and has inspired me through his deep (much more deep than when he was with SOAD) lyrics and melodies.
Fav. Song: Lie Lie Lie
Red Hot Chili Peppers: are how i remember the 90's. They did a lot of good things for Rock that many people don't realize. They are just so melodical, and have so much meaning behind their music, and have a lot of fun playing for their fans.
Fav. Song: The Zephyr Song / By The Way
Tool: is one of the trippiest, meaningful, phsychidelic, wonderful, amazing, awe-inspiring, *insert any other positive adjective here* band that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Fav. Song: Lateralus
Disturbed:, enough said.
Fav. Song: Ten Thousand Fists
Foo Fighters: are one of my favorite bands of all. They are just so full of awesomeness, with 'Learn How To Fly,' 'The Pretender,' 'Long Road To Ruin' and the rest of their long list of great songs. These people have taught me a lot over the few years I have been able to understand music like i do.

Therapy? have stuck with me for a while now. I don't know what it is that makes me love them.
Bathory - mostly the viking albums, but they've all got something good to offer. Quorthon's vocals were far from perfect, but that's what I like about them. He also wrote great songs. Best album: Hammerheart or Nordland I
Air is mesmerizing. Moon Safari is one of the most relaxing albums I've ever heard, I used to listen to it every night before bed.
maudlin of the Well. Usually when bands try to mix a bunch of styles of music it just doesn't sound right to me, but motW does it flawlessly. The albums flow perfectly from indie to metal to new age. Best album: Bath
The Cure. Mostly because I couldn't decide on a 5th artist, there were too many contenders. Robert Smith is one of the best lyricists today. They've got all sorts of great albums and tracks.

I guess juding people based on their music tastes makes you cool right?
I didn't say it was always political...i just said it was always there.
Actually, he's not judging you on your music taste at all. The original reply was pointing out that you're wrong to say "their lyrics aren't about random shit that doesn't matter." He gave you several examples of their songs that are, in fact, about random shit that doesn't matter.

The genres, not the bands. I listen to a bunch of bands included in those genres. My problem is the horribly ultra-compartmentalized genres. They serve no purpose than to further obscure the types of music people listen to. Apparently the more obscure a band is, the cooler you are for listening to them.

I believe they're called the Locust, minus the funk.
I agree though, some bands are just shit and because of the... unnatural sounds coming out of the speakers, it's considered good. Some band pull it off, and others just don't get the idea that you need to know a bit more about your instrument to make the style properly.
The half-eaten sausage would like to see you in his office.
It has nothing to do with the "unnatural" sounds. It's just the genres people use. For me, it all started with the bullshit about what was and wasn't punk. Genres are supposed to be used for classification, that way you can pick broad preferences in musical style. But wrongly attributing punk to a band just started this huge argument.
"Bad Religion is punk. Blink 182 is pop."
"Nuh uh! Blink is so punk!"
:bangkill:
And then there's the obscure, made up genres people use to try and look cool. Many of the bands themselves hate the classification as well. It's just another part of the stupid idea of obscurity = coolness and how every hipster asshole starts hating bands when they get even a little bit of recognition. If you like a band's music, why should you care how popular they may or may not get? If anything, you should be happy for their achievements, not trash on them or their new fans just because they start getting more popular.

True about the genres thing.
I have a list of genre terms I use that put the style in there place in general terms, and if there's a mix of them, I classify it as the closest one there is.
I think if people just used:
Rock, Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Alternative, Metal, Punk, Classical, Jazz, and Blues.
There are people who complain that Techno and other such noise isn't in it's own catagory, though they do fit in Alternative. If you can think of any other catagories that seriously do not fit in these catagories, in a general term of speaking (eg. Hardcore, Romantic, and Trip Hop DO NOT deserve their own catagories), then please make suggestions and they will be considered for my list of terms.
PS. The Half Eaten Sausage has seen me in his office, him and his Twenty-Three Lubed Up Schizophrenics With Delusions of Grandeur, and they told me "We Have Reached an Official Verdict: Nobody Gives a Shit". That was news to me.
To tell you the truth, I think genres should just been done away with entirely. Music is far too broad and different to lump everything into categories. Plus, what some people consider fitting for one category is almost never agreed upon. Combinations of styles and similarities are a much better alternative. I'd much rather have somebody describe a band via a combination of genres, a description of their sound and similar artists.
For example: Test Icicles (http://www.myspace.com/testicicles). For some reason, people seem to just lump these guys in indie/rock and leave it at that. I'd describe them as a combination of dance-punk with a little hardcore thrown in. Like if The Blood Brothers started a Bloc Party cover band. Fast beats, high guitars, a poppy keyboard, some well-timed screaming and a drummer that makes you dance in your chair.

My top 5 are;
1. Queen I fell in love with Queen about 5 years ago and have loved them unconditionally ever since. The range of music astounds me. Their music has the ability to make people feel a whole spectrum of emotions. 'Don't stop me now' can make almost anyone smile and generally be happy. whereas 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' can bring a tear to most peoples eyes. For that (and more) I love them.
Favourite Songs - Was It All Worth It, Hammer To Fall and In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited
Favourite Album - A Night At The Opera
2.The Police I have been listening to this band all my life. My mum listened to them when she was my age and the love for them got passed down to me, it seems. Stings near flawless voice, Andy Summers second to none guitar playing and Stewart Copelands out of this world drumming all combined to make excellent, EXCELLENT music. They are truly brilliant and I defy anybody who says otherwise.
Favourite Songs - Synchronicity II, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and Omegaman
Favourite Album - Ghost In The Machine
3. Boston I started listening to Boston a few years back and they struck me as one of the most incredible bands I had ever heard. The vocals, the guitar...everything. It just worked together to create what I see as musical genius.
Favourite Songs - Rock & Roll Band, Peace Of Mind and Stare Out Your Window
Favourite Album - Boston
4. Journey This band blow me away. The vocals are fantastic, as are everything else about them. They make such feel good songs, its hard NOT to love them. This band, to me, are so influential. Absolutely fantastic.
Favourite Songs - Open Arms, Don't Stop Believin' and Faithfully
Favourite Album - Escape
5.Rush I've only recently started listening to Rush, thanks to a friend of mine. I can't thank him enough for introducing me to the genius of Rush. The range of music is incredible. I haven't heard a single song that I thought "Hmm, its OK, I guess.." afterwards. I always think "My GOD this is awesome" and promptly put the album on again after. If you aren't familiar with the music of Rush, I highly advise you do so.
Favourite Songs - Open Secrets, YYZ and Ceiling Unlimited
Favourite Album - Hold Your Fire
Sorry I went on a bit. I kind of got carried away.
I love Test Icicles. If you're into that you should check out Foals (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=38221052). I'm not going to mention a genre or anything, not only because that's what's irritating you but also because I probably couldn't if I wanted to.
Oooh, they aren't bad. They've got the same sorta style as Test Icicles, but instead of a Blood Brothers-esque hardcore influence, it's more poppy indie/rock, like Arctic Monkeys or something.

Regina Spektor: Samson
Tegan and Sara: Superstar, I Know I Know I Know
Michelle Branch: Goodbye to You, Tuesday Morning, One of These Days. I will never forgive her for ending her solo career to start a country band with her friend (called The Wreckers) where every fucking song starts with a shitty banjo intro.
Jason Mraz: I'm Yours, You and I Both
Paramore: Pressure, Hallelujah
I can't not mention System of a Down. I seldom listen to them now, but I used to be completely obsessed with them, and they will always have a place in my heart. Listen to: Deer Dance.

In order from best to worst...more or less. I know my number 1 is number 1 at least:
1. Radiohead: Oh, what to say. They're just bad ass. Whether it's in their earlier days with those wicked guitars, or the more recent stuff that's more electronic based, they have a great sound and awesome lyrics.
Best album: OK Computer...though I can't say anything bad about any of them
Best Song: Don't make me pick one
2. TV on the Radio: Not as well known, but these guys are geniuses. They're hard to define. Not your standard rock stuff. Lots of interesting sounds.
Best Album: Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes
Best Song: Staring at the Sun
3. The Fiery Furnaces: Probably the oddest band on my list. Indie rock storytellers. You've got to listen to albums over and over to untangle the narratives. Very little of the usually verse-chorus-verse set up. The music is really expressive to fit with the lyrics being sung at the time.
Best Album: Blueberry Boat (not actually my favorite, but I'd say the best for anyone who hasn't heard them before)
Best Song: Blueberry Boat
4. Spoon: A little more standard than the others, but still not the average radio rock band. And, gaining some definite mainstream power lately
Best Album: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Best Song: Small Stakes
5. MF Doom/Viktor Vaughn/Madvillain/King Geedorah/Danger: Basically the same guy--MF Doom-- working with different people (who are all pretty talented in their own rights). Loves to sample movies and old TV shows when he's producing, and when he's rhyming, he's got this relaxed flow happening. Don't look for too many choruses here either. It's basically just a straight line from beginning to end. Plus, he wears a mask, and did a whole album about food.
Best Album: Vaudville Villain
Best Song: Potholderz

My top 5 so far would have to be
The Beatles: Indisputably the greatest band ever. Their influence has been outstanding and so is their music.
Favorite albums: The White Album, Sgt. Peppers', Revolver
Radiohead: Radiohead are amazing when it comes to expanding genres to near-breaking point. Their music is nearly perfect but just flawed enough to still be an instant classic.
Favorite albums: OK Computer, Kid A, The Bends
The Rolling Stones: The Stones go without saying. They are some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.
Favorite albums: Exile on Main St. (My first Stones album), Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed
Bob Dylan: Hands down, the greatest singer/songwriter of all time. The man is mindblowing (And incredibly incoherent.)
Favorite albums: Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, Highway 61 Revisited
Nirvana: Don't forget that when Nevermind came around, it sparked an entire culture of grunge music, wiped hair metal off the map ( ), and revolutionized music as we know it.
Favorite albums: Nevermind, In Utero, MTV Unplugged

#1. Arctic Monkeys-
Great sound and excellent debut album. Their second album's not up to the first but it's still pretty good.
#2. Mystery Jets-
Relatively unknown band , but their music fascinates me. It's a wonder they don't have a big hit yet.
#3. Maximo Park
Very catchy songs , even if the lyrics are awful.
#4. Oasis
Couldn't not include them on the list , amazing.
#5. The Pigeon Detectives

What? How does a flaw make you better? That seems completely illogical to me.
Eminem
No one beats eminem, im still waiting for his next album
He has progressively gotten worse over the years. His next album, if one will come, will probably be terrible.
What? How does a flaw make you better? That seems completely illogical to me.
Flaws give music personality in many cases. I really like old Bad Religion when they were all teenagers and couldn't play or sing very well. Once they started singing in key and playing well, the music got boring.
timbot

I thought Bad Religion just got boring because...well, it was the same stuff over and over. Or maybe it's because I don't agree with them as much now.
I'm not sure how I feel about the whole, "flaws=personality" view. People say it a lot, about people and music and writing and all kinds of art. Sometimes I kind of feel the same way, but when I think about it, it makes no sense.
I wonder if you liked that they couldn't play or sing very well, or if, as they learned how to play better, they lost something else they had before. And something more concrete than "personality."

Okay I have been wondering, what exactly does a genre have to do to get post- in from of it? How does it sound different form the postless bands?
Well, little Johnny, take post-rock for example.
Generally post-rock is entirely instrumental, with songs lasting for 10 to 15 minutes at a time.
Quoted from Wikipedia,
Post rock is a music genre characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but utilizing rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not found in rock tradition. Simply put, it is the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purposes

Nickelback (Old Nickelback.)
The new album is good apart from Rockstar. As for old Nickelback, The Long Road was the only good one. The State and Silver Side Up were shit in my opinion. (Except from This Is How You Remind Me)
And I've never listened to The Curb.
Top 5 bands (In my opinion):
1. Neurosis - Best band in the world!
2. Jesu - English-industrial-shoegaze-stuff-core!
3. Pig Destroyer - Fast as hell! awesome grindcore!
4. Explosions in the sky - Amazing post rock
5. Converge - Brutal and technical!
5 just doesn't seem enough :(
You, Sir, have impeccable taste in music. Especially Jesu and EITS. Though Justin Broadrick seems to be leaning more on the shoegazing side of things these days. I love the s/t album, it just sounds so desolate and HEAVY, like you've got the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Audiosalve: My god Tom is the man!

The Black Dahlia Murder - Great Heavy Metal - Lyrics is great to match with music.. very brutal and seems to have allot of imagery in the lyrics. Latest Cd Nocturnal Is done very well.. lots of lows and highs. Trevor knows how to use the lows and high, Mixed very well with Voice Modification and literal sounds of Swords and shields Colliding in a battle, Listen Very Closely to Warborn...
In Flames - Amazing Melodic Death Metal band.. There music can be heavy but then again say Cherish the days you have... Very thoughtful in the lyrics department.. not just jitter jatter pig squeals...
Iron Maiden - Flat out great band, great music, catchy and fun to sing along with.. Kinda had a jump from Iron maiden to the heavier metal, like job for a cowboy and The Black Dahlia Murder..
Darkest Hour - Another awesome metal band... viewed them in concert here in alaska... on the tiny stage still had great music, and there latest stuff from Deliver Us is all pretty damn good. The Song "With A Thousand Words To Say But One" was instantly my favorite when i viewed them live and it still is my favorite song..
Job For A Cowboy - Listening to there DOOM cd or ep i dont recall weather it was a Cd or Ep, But anyways after you got some of the lyrics down and how he used his screams and lows you can follow along and in fact have allot of fun. That band was the largest jump i did between music genre's and i don't regret doing it... just wish i did it sooner to really get into music and join my buds in bands...
If you have any questions... or anything just say something..

2. Cold Play- For life.
3. Radiohead- But that's redundant cause everyone loves them.
4. Jimmy Eat World- Their new stuff... not so much...

1. The Cure - Robert Smith's voice, lyrical genius and songwriting ability is so far above anything anyone has ever done that I am constantly stunned by what he comes up with. At any time, in any mood, there will always be a The Cure song that suits. It's exciting that every now and then I can hear something in a song that I had not heard in the past.. Live they are something else - how many other bands play for three hours, old tracks and new?
2. TOOL - Maynard's voice coupled with the music is amazing.. The music ebbs and flows from hard to soft and back agian... The music is beautiful.. it's hard, nasty, beautiful, pained, angry and so much more...
3. Jane's Addiction - This band [the original line-up that included Eric Avery] was just raw power, aggression, sexuality, love and fire.. Perry's shrill voice coupled with the pounding bass, guitar and drums was something that grabbed you by the balls and shook you to the core and left you breathless. On record the songs were amazing, live they became a part of you..
4. Regurgitator - Australia's best band. Forget Silverchair and Powderfinger and any old band you've ever heard of.. this is music that is inspired. Quan's and Ben's lryics bust you in the face and make you think. The music is in all directions, part rock, part metal, part hip-hop, part dance, part i dunno what...
5. Nirvana / Radiohead - Can't decide.. Nirvana was so raw, so primal, Radiohead has so many sides and has evolved amazingly....
there's more but i can't think now..

Amazing how one's list can change pretty quick:
1. Sodom - Legendary thrash band from Germany, I just checked out their Code Red and self-titled albums and loving every minute of it.
2. Fight - This was Rob Halford's solo band after leaving Priest back in 1992. Similar to Priest, but certainly not a ripoff at all.
3. Megadeth - Does this band even need an introduction?
4. Emperor - One of the most influential black metal bands of all-time.
5. LTJ Bukem - Something different than metal, how about some groovy drum n' bass/jungle music by the innovator of the genre?

At The Drive In-One of the best alternative bands ever to be formed, no matter how they made a song even if it started out soft and mellow they always energized the song with such an incredible vibe. It's two band they had to split it into, what is now 2 mediocre bands.
Streetlight Manifesto-Not too much more can be said about this band, I've only been listening to them for about the past year and they have already climbed to one of my all time favorite bands. Goes to show you how much talent this all-star ska band brings to the table.
The Doors-I have been listening to The Doors since before birth, this is a band that will never ever be forgotten by me or anyone else. The incredible poem-esk lyrics of Jim Morrison were nothing short of amazing and the organ playing of Ray Mazarek is mind blowing.
Saetia-I was randomly introduced to this great screamo band during my high school years and the lyrics never enthralled me until a few years later when I actually listened to the music as a whole. Not only are the lyrics great but the music itself is so energizing, too bad they only lasted three years.
Big D & the Kids Table-What can I say I'm a ska loving Boston native, how can I not like this band. From Daves too the point lyrics and the rest of bands energy they create a perfect ska/punk band which never gets old. Not the mention the best live performance I have ever witnessed in all of my years.
I would say thats pretty close to be in order but I love each of these bands so much its a close call.

Beloved (US) - I love the pictures I paint in my head when listening to their songs. This band is the most inspirational to me when I'm trying to write/draw/do anything creative.
Garnet Crow - Although they are a Japanese band I have a lot of respect for the lyricist. Her words are beautiful when translated, I can only imagine how much better they would sound if I could understand them. I bought a CD of their's originally because I was looking through a random Japanese magazine and I liked their name.
HelloGoodbye - This band reminds me of all my friends and good times we've had. I was listening to them way before they were well known and watching them play in bars and stuff. A lot of the songs can make me dance regardless of where I am.

Hooray for Art Brut. That is a great song. I used that song to explain to my former girlfriend why we couldn't listen to music while having sex.
Against Me! (note the exclamation mark!)
Just amazing. I was dissapointed with their move away from Fat Wreck. But I support them fully, and they're music quality, I must say, has increased.
Fav song: Baby, I'm an anarchist.

HIM -> I fell in love with this band back when their "Love Metal" album came out. The lyrics are deep, with romantic themes and some depressing undertones. In a way, this band introduced me to my (now-ex) girlfriend... This is still my favorite band by far! ~Favorite Song: "The Path"~
69 Eyes -> For some reason, Finnish bands really intrigue me. I love them all! This one has more of a gothic-punk sound than HIM does. These guys are what inspired my username. ~Favorite Song: "Never Say Die"~
Uniklubi -> Another sweet Finnish-Rock band. These guys sing exclusively in Finnish though. If you don't know Finnish, you won't understand 'em... obviously. ~Favorite Song: "Rakkauttaa ja Piikklankkaa"~
Bloodhound Gang -> They are rude, crude, and perverted... who's complaining? ~Favorite Song: "Pennsylvania"~
Scorpions -> Great rock band from 'back in the day'. This band for me was definitely 'Love at First Sting'... ~Favorite Song: "Rock You Like A Hurricane"~

Wow, this is going to be a hard one. I guess I'll start then.
1. My Chemical Romance: I just love their grooves and the guitarist is the best that ever lived, plus I sometimes listen to them when I'm making out with the football team so that's a plus.
2. Simple Plan: They know me oh too well. There hasn't been a group of guys this talented since the men who made Ball Knockers 12. I usually listen to them when I have nothing else to do but think of new ways of self-mutilation.
3. Linkin Park: Oh my God, these guys are geniuses. The mixture of rap and rock is phenomenal and I often find myself listening to them while I'm wallowing in self pity and loathing.
4. AFI: Oh lord here it comes, these guys are the man. Whenever I'm getting beat up for dressing up like an autistic goth with dreadlocks I always hum the entire Sing The Sorrow album in order to keep the pain inside of my heart and not in my skin.
5. Panic! At the Disco: These guys are so hot right now so why wouldn't I love them? Their mixture of metal and punk is just astounding, how can you not show them anything but respect? Whenever I succeed at my latest form of self-sabotage I always celebrate with a hefty amount of their new hit, whatever it may be.

Favorite Song: Hysteria
The Miles Davis Quintet: What can I say - classic jazz band.
Favorite Song: Water Babies
Steely Dan: I only REALLY like the Alive in America album with Dennis Chambers. Fantastic stuff.
Favorite Song: Aja
The Roots: My favorite rap group by far. Gotta love ?uestlove.

The Bad Plus: Amazing jazz group, probably the best in today's world. I saw them in concert and it was ridiculous.
Favorite Song: Physical Cities

Radiohead I can't say how much exactly I love this band, they are probably the only band in which I can listen to all their songs and love it all. Thom Yorke is my idol.
Favorite Songs: Idioteque (duh) and Subterranean Homesick Alien
Red Hot Chili Peppers Probably one of the first bands that truly got me into music, I love their old music.
Favorite Songs: Blackeyed Blonde and Sir Psycho Sexy
Queens of the Stone Age They have the potential to be just another hard-rock band, but they don't. This is a band that really knows how to mix it up and make great psychedelic/hard rock/metal/progressive music Thats a good thing, by the way
Favorite Songs: Someones in the Wolf, God on the Radio
LCD Soundsystem A band that I am really just starting to get into, their latest album blew me away
Beastie Boys Probably the only rap group I listen to regularly, "Paul's Boutique" is probably one of the best albums, rap or any other genre, ever made. Their songs make me laugh and bob my head at the same time
Favorite Songs: Intergalatic, Looking down the Barrel of Gun

3. Dethklok - Good "Death Metal". Can't believe a fake cartoon band made it into my favorites.
Best Song: Into The Water
4. The Killers - Its hard to explain why I like their music; its just catchy.
Best Song: When You Were Young
5. From Autumn To Ashes - The only Hardcore I like.
Best Song: Pioneers
Do you also have ...And Justice for All
and Kill 'Em All by Metallica?
My favorite Metallica songs are Motorbreath and Hit the Lights.

I do have ...And Justice For all, even though its not my favorite... yet.
I will give Kill Em' All a look at though, thanks.
Kill Em All is their best. Good old fashioned thrash.

1.Metallica
It was a tough decision for first but I had to definitely take things into consideration. Now I know that people think that Metallica has sold out and that St. Anger was a flop but what matters in this is my opinion and I think that Metallica definitely had me at hello with "Kill 'em all"
2.Rammstein
Say what you want about rammstein, hell go ahead and say that you supposedly know what "Du Hast" is about but one thing you cant say is that they're boring. This band constantly bring it on cd and on stage. Favorite song: Wilder Wein (Wild Wine)
3.Pantera
Thats right, the cowboys from hell rock my little school girl socks off! Favorite song:Psycho Holiday
4.Johnny Cash
Theres alot you can say about the man in black. Revolutionary. Innovative. Just all around a great artist to listen to when you want to relax. Favorite song: Cocaine Blues
5.Inflames
theres no way I could have gone my life without inflames. They're fuckin amazing. Simple as that. No need to elaborate. Favorite song: Metaphor

In order:
Metallica - The band that got me into music and made my life. Before them I pretty much didn't listen to music at all, now I listen to music almost every hour of my life. It's probably too hard for me to pick a favorite album, actually. And I am embarrassed to say that St. Anger was actually the song that got me into them :aaa:
Favorite song: It varies from time to time, but at the moment It's Orion
Megadeth - Not quite as good as Metallica in my opinion, but Dave Mustaine is still a musical genius.
Favorite album: United Abominations
Favorite song: Countdown to Extinction
Slayer - At first these guys were too death metal-ish for me, but now I love them. They're full of several of the best musicians ever. Tom Araya is possibly my favorite vocalist of all time, Jeff Hanneman is possibly my favorite song writer of all time, and Dave Lombardo is probably the best drummer in metal. I don't really have a favorite album of these guy's, either.
Favorite song: Seasons in the Abyss, hands down. The most metal song ever created
The Offspring - While Metallica were the band that got me into music, these guys were the very first band that I ever liked. I really don't have a favorite song of theirs, there are just so many that I like!
Favorite album: Americana
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I never knew that I would ever get into a funk band, but these guys just blew me away. John Frusciante is one of the most emotional guitarists ever; his solos are just incredible.
Favorite album: Either By The Way or Californication
Favorite song: Dosed

1. Silverchair: They were the first band to have a really huge impact on me and completely change my life. It was the first band I'd ever listened to with lyrics that I could relate to; it wasn't an escape, it became me.
2. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: They took a hold of my heart and throat in a second. They're just... incredible. They've also had a huge impact on me. Nick Cave is just such an amazing lyricist, and The Bad Seeds are all awesome, especially Blixa.
3. Christian Death: Just to make this clear: I like Rozz's Christian Death, the true one, not Valor's. I hate Valor Kand and I wish his dick would explode. I listened to "Romeo's Distress" and it was just love at first sound. Rozz also writes incredible lyrics. And "Lament (Over the Shadows)"? OH. MY. GOD. That song is just beautiful... like no other.
4. Queen Adreena: Another great band to impact me, mostly because it was through them I discovered all things related to the Garside sisters, Katiejane and Melanie, aka Maple Bee. Katiejane is just CRAZY, in a good way that's a tad bad, but that's okay. :) She's also got an incredible voice and is just a really creative individual, as in she had her own art exhibit.
5. The Birthday Party: Nick Cave's post-punk band, but of course we all already knew that. They're definitely my favorite post punk band, even more so than Joy Division. I don't care if that sounds bad, but it's true. They had a lot more of the punk attitude that had been kind of lost in the post punk movement. And Nick was still an amazing guy then.

"Love me love me, say that you love me," right fellas?
Oh, you kidder.
1. The White Stripes. Jack White is amazing in almost every way. When I first hear them I was like "These guys will never become very famous." After I listened to them for a while, Jack's voice grew on me. Meg's just...there.
Favorite Song: Too many to choose from.
2. Rage Against the Machine. Yet another band that's vocals are kind of annoying at first, but they grow on you. Tom Morello's guitar is really awesome, and shows that guitar solos dont need to be thrashing and fast paced to be good. I respect them a lot because of their drive to make political topics well known.
Favorite Song: Sleep Now in the Fire
3. Audioslave. RAtM cooled down and without the rapping. Really great match up to put Chris Cornell and the RAtM band together.
Favorite Song: Cochise
4. Pink Floyd. I've loved them ever since my dad popped in The Wall and we listened to it on car trips. Easily one of my favorite albums ever. I love them because to this day there hasn't been a band that can pull off the same things that Pink Floyd did.
Favorite Song: Comfortably Numb
5. Tool. Although I don't know many of their songs, it's not because of lack of interest. I just can't afford an album right now (I'm poor :() Their songs all seem to be in odd meters and they put so much emotion into their music it's amazing.
Favorite song: Schism

This is probably my favorite list on here, other than my own of course. I never did like Audioslave...maybe I'm just too big of a fan of Rage. Tool, Rage and Radiohead were my favorite bands in high school. I've gotten a little tired of Tool since, but still like to hear them sometimes, same for Rage. Pink Floyd, though, is classic. Great sounds, and I love any band who can do good concept albums like Animals. And The White Stripes continue to impress me with every album.

I drift through tons of bands and music styles, nowadays I'm overly addicted to post-rock and other instrumental music.
But I think I can pinpoint five bands, though it may change some time from now:
The Smashing Pumpkins: This band has been with me literally since I was 10, and Mellon Collie... was made. All through my adolescence I've listened to it and kept up to now. Everytime some of their songs is playing it just reminds me of good times I've passed - wich weren't much - with my walkman loud in my ears.
Favorite Song: Luna
Mojave 3: Mellow, emotive, romantic, probably the gayest band I listen to. I just love them, it's one of those bands that I just love listening to in the morning if I'm to leave the house with a smile.
Favorite Song: - don't really have a favourite -
Joanna Newsom: There are no words to describe beauty.
Favorite Song: En Gallop!
The Mountain Goats: Bad luck comes in from Tampa! Damn this guys is just awesome! You american types sometimes just get it spot on.
Favorite Song: - don't really have a favourite -
Explosions In The Sky: Not exactly a favourite, but they stand for everything that's awesome on post-rock.
Favorite Song: Have You Passed Through this Night? / A Poor Man's Memory

dredg - When I discovered them last year, I was immediatley addicted. After I first played "Catch Without Arms" I didn't listen to anything else for 3 days. Why for three days? Because by then I got all their other records. ;)
Static-X - Has constantly been a major part of my collection for about 6 years or so. I really like their their unique, fast and catchy style. It's no Beethoven, but it's fun.
A Perfect Circle / Tool - Both of Maynard's band belong to my favorites. APC is just beautiful music, with certain "hard moments" and Tool is pure genius "head music". Love it.
Slipknot / Stone Sour - Well, what shall I say...I like both of Corey's bands as well. Slipknot not entirely, I don't like their older stuff, but the latest one (Vol. 3: The subliminal verses) is just amazing. It never gets boring as the songs are so varied. And Stone Sour is just the softer, more melodic version of it, so why not like that too? ^^
If the same-singer-bands both count as one, I still got one slot empty in my top5, ...hm.... Hm...I can't make up my mind about that, there are several candidates for that, but I like them all equally much. I'll just leave it the top4 and add the bands between which I can't decide ^^
The Mayan Factor - Myspace Profile (http://www.myspace.com/themayanfactor), listen to "Warflower"
Hurt - Really nice rock band, don't know if they are famous or not. I discovered them some months ago.
Clint Mansell - He made this amazing score for the even more amazing movie The Fountain. It's a feast for eyes, ears and mind.
Ludwig van Beethoven - The master himself. Wonderful music, great to relaxe, work, think, etc.

For the past few months it's been (in order):
Coheed and Cambria - Claudio Sanchez is a musical genius, seamlessly mixing so many genres together into a storytelling epic.
Tool - Just recently got into them, but i love Maynard's voice and lyrics and all those weird time signatures they put into their songs
HIM - I really like their 'Love Metal' sound and all the dark imagery thats in their songs.
Trivium - Though their new album is pretty good (The Crusade) i love all the guitar work on their old album 'Ascendancy'.
Avenged Sevenfold - Only stuff off of 'City Of Evil', their new albums sucks.

Benny Benassi- Can make techno mixes out of anything.
Nujabes- From Samurai Champloo to original content, they never disappoint me. :D
Lupe Fiasco-An amazing storyteller.
Anyone who made a Ren and Stimpy song- No explanation needed.
69 Boys- They're so freaky and nasty, but funny at the same time.
Haddaway- BEST GAY CLUB MUSIC
Outkast- They make an effort to preserve originality.
Blue Man Group- So very weird.
Aerosmith- I just like to listen to them. I don't know why. :/
Ali&Big Gipp- They said 'Do the cabbage patch' in 2007. Pure love.
The Beets(from Doug)- Because I NEED MORE ALLOWANCE
The Cool Kids- They make music that you can play on a ghettoblaster Whilst walking down the street. Especially Black Mags.
Del the Funky Homosapien- He's pure cool. And YOU GOTTA WASH YO ASS.
More later.

I'll just list my favourite bands and my favourite song from them, m'kay?
1. KMFDM - Son Of A Gun or Stray Bullet. Can't choose. Also, Stars and Stripes is awesome.
2. Marilyn Manson - (s)Ain't
3. KoRn - Word Up!
4. Linkin Park - Faint
And something you will not understand;
5. Kotiteollisuus - Kultalusikka
Not easy chosing 5 but I'll try my best ^^
First off: Tool I simply worship them, to unhealty measures sometimes ^.^
favorte song: really depends on my mood, at this moment I'd go with 46&2 or Reflection
Secondly... Van Der Graaf Generator old proggressive band, been around since the late sixties but I've seen em last year and they still rock.
Next would come Tori Amos. Love her lyrics, her voice, the piano. When I'm in the mood for some light listening I always go for her or some Nouvelle Vague
after these would come Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Frank Zappa, R.E.M. and much more that I really can't pick between :p
Hats of!

Van Der Graaf Generator! Hurray, prog in Explosm!
(Gonna add favorite song to mi bandies).
Favorite song: Wish You Were Here
Favorite song: Supper's Ready
3, Supertramp
Supertamp is a great progressive rockband much like Genesis or Pink Floyd. All in the band are great at their pianos and keyboards. Such songs as Crime of the Century or Fool's Overture shows what you can do with great lyrics and music.
Favorite song: Fool's Overture
4, Marillion
Marillion is one of those bands that in the 80's managed to create some hit-singels. Such songs as Forgotten Sons, Chelsea Monday, Script for a Jester's Tear or Childhood's End is a great example of progressive rock before it's turn to metal. And the most impressive is that they did all of these after the punk destroyed most of the good rock (although, I love Patti Smith and The Clash).
Favorite song: Chelsea Monday
5, Jethro Tull
One word, flutes.
Favorite song: Thick as a Brick part 1

#1 Pink Floyd - In my eyes PInk Floyd is easily the best group that ever graced this earth. Each member was/is a god with their instruments. Floyd's music is some of the most creative and original stuff out there. Pink Floyd=major head trip.
#2 Black Sabbath - First off, Ozzy Osbourne is the coolest fucker on the planet. And second, Sabbath created heavy metal. Tony Iommi wrote the heaviest and most evil riffs anyone has ever heard. Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd are both pretty damn close to being my over-all favorites.
#3 Metallica - I have these guys to thank for getting me into music in general. James hetfield is the reason i play guitar, and Cliff Burton(RIP) is the reason i just picked up a bass a few weeks ago. Their last album (St. Anger) was a complete joke, but they're still one of my favorite groups ever.
#4 John Petrucci - Dream Theater guitarist. This fuckin' guy is my main influence for guitar aside from James Hetfield. The stuff he writes and plays is ungodly and inhuman. He's a fuckin' machine and that's all there really is to say about him.
#5 AC/DC - One of the hardest rocking bands ever. Pure kick-ass all around. I don't have much to say about them other than they're everything louder than everyone else.

Hmm... Shouldn't be too hard to count that high...
1. Rammstein
2. Emigrate
3. Styx
4.Gretchen Wilson?
5. Dixie Chicks
The last two ending in "?" due the fact I don't really listen to more than a few songs by any other band or artist than Rammstein, Emigrate, and Styx. The only time I listen to those artists/bands is when I'm tired of listening to the first three, and that's all the crap that was on my MP3 player, which was left there because I stole it from my mom...

1. Fran Ferdinand - I don't know why but everyone I know likes them so I guess I suck if I don't. They are also pretty easy to listen to and get into.
2. LCD Soundsystems - Their new album is good.
3. Architecture in Helsinki - A really weird indy band but who cares.
4. Docenterna - A lot of people outside Sweden and Norway don't know who they are but they are a pretty good punk band from way back in the 80s.
5. Foo Fighters - Even though all their new stuff sounds the same to me they were the first band I started listening to.
Mindless Self Indulgence:
I started listening to these guys sometime last year after I heard one of their songs on the hacked version of Guitar Hero II. I brought their latest album and then downloaded their other albums and I love their music.
The lyrics and beats are constantly stuck in my head.
Favourite Song:
'Tom Sawyer' or 'You'll Rebel To Anything As Long As It's Not Challenging'
Fall Of Troy:
I saw these guys at the Australian Soundwave Festival and I've loved their music since. Honestly, not one of their songs is uninteresting.
Each song contains great guitar riffs and drum work.
Favourite Song:
'F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X' or 'Spartacus'
Pendulum:
I've never really been one for the hip-hop genre (I assume that's what it is), but the way these guys make their music just really makes me like it. Fast-paced beats with extremely fast lyrics that are almost impossible to learn. I never get tired of these guys.
Favourite Song:
'Painkiller'
Bloc Party:
My friend introduced me to this band about 3 years ago, and I can't stop listening. I don't know what it is about this band that makes me want to hear them over and over again, but the chemistry of the instruments is great; especially the drums. *drool*
Favourite Song:
'Helicopter' or 'Banquet'
Pink Floyd:
I can't properly explain why or how much I love this band, but they're fucking amazing. They're so fresh, and even after a few decades, the music just appeals to me in so many ways.
My step-dad is the main person who got me listening to them, after buying me a few of their albums and live DVD's.
Favourite Song:
I like too many of their songs to mention just one or two.

1. Chimaira - Great riffs, amazing drumming. All around kickassery.
2. Slipknot - Yeah, I know people label them as nu-metal shit, but as far as i can see, they're metal, and I love 'em.
3. Lamb of God - Fantastic guitar work, and mind-blowing vocals from Randy Blythe. Also possibly the best live band ever.
4. Lostprophets - Though they've gotten more towards the emo side of things with their latest album, they still manage to make me smile whenever I hear them. Possibly 2nd best live band ever.
5. Billy Talent - From my native Toronto, featuring some of the most impressive guitar work I can think of, from Ian D'Sa. Also Ben's voice is instantly recognizable.
Just brilliant.

emery-ive always loved them, all there songs just relate to something in my life and i love how the guitar is just a little out of tune, but they make it sound so good.
fav song-so cold i could see my breath or ann marie
iron maiden-my dad loves this band to, he played all the time, and they just kind of grew on me, and i just love the guitar.
fav song-run to the hills or flight of icarus
greenday-ive always loved them, i have all of their cds, i have like 6 posters of them, and i have 3 greenday shirts, i dont kno why, but i just love them.
fav song-basket case or st.jimmy
nickelback-i know people say that they suck, and that there a discrace to music and all that other shit, but i still like them becuz i like the music.
fav song-rockstar or someday
and last but not least:
senses fail-ive only known about them for about 6 months, but the first time i heard them, i knew that i loved them, so i went out and bought alot of their merchandise. i love the lyrics and the music, its so melodic, some people may call it emo, and it probably is, but that doesnt mean i dont love it
fav song-the preist and the matador and negitive space
side note, i dont dnld stuff by my fav bands unless there is no way to get it otherwise, because i know that bands get a profit of their merchandise that people buy, and i want them to keep making music, so i buy stuff so that they can

Metallica: Say what you will but their first five albums were fucking epic. The guitar work is a huge inspiration to me. They are the 7th bestselling band in America.
P.S: As said before this is based off their first five not the steaming pile of crap called St. Anger.
Slayer: In my opinion these guys are the only 80s thrash band (other than my other choice for top 5) that has not changed that much from their original greatness. Show No Mercy, Reign in blood, Seasons in the Abyss...do I need go on? Great band.
Megadeth: Thank god he got out of Metallica. Dave Mustaine is an awesome guitarist and kept me busy with his albums when Metallica's albums during the 90s sucked. "Hangar 18". That's all.
Pantera: Dimebag=GOD. He is another huge inspiration. Every album they made was just amazing. R.I.P. DIME.
Black Sabbath: Without these guys the bands that I love might not even be around. They are the band that started it all. Who could have thought losing fingertips would be an advantage to a guitarist?

Senses Fail is by far my favorite band. They're probably the only band with an album that i don't want to skip songs on.
Favorite song(s): Choke on This, Bite to Break Skin, One Eight Seven
Underoath appealed to me a lot more with their earlier stuff. Define the Great Line took some time to grow on me but it's got some good songs.
Favorite Song(s): Reinventing Your Exit, A Boy Brushed Red...Living in Black and White
Brand New is definitely up there in my favorites even though they're pretty emo.
Favorite Song: Seventy Time 7
Taking Back Sunday just has a shitload of good songs. Need I say more?
Favorite Song: Liar
Streetlight Manifesto is probably one of the best ska bands. Actually is mostly just their album Everything Goes Numb that i like.
Favorite Song: Too many to name. Basically any song on Everything Goes Numb

It doesn't matter what people say, Manson rlz, he's fuckin' awesome! His personal life has nothing to do with his music, he can do whatever he wants, but his music will always be great and everyone knows that :)
Paramore
Oh please, everyone has GOT to love Hayley's voice and Paramore's music... They're cute ;)

Pink Floyd- So original and talented. There will never be a band the same. If you don't like them, just get drunk or high and listen to Dark Side of the Moon. You will then change your attitude about disliking them. No word of a lie.
Led Zeppelin- is God. Probably one of the biggest icons in classic rock history.
The Beatles- Probably could've ruled the world. No one could match their trip tunes.
Matthew Good Band- sexy :)
The Doors- So trip. I have much more appreciation for them, after reading an autobiography on Jim Morrison, who was a complete asshole; but still a God. Him and Lennon could've ruled the world together.
The list goes on and on.
We'reChained.

1. Pixies
2. Sonic Youth
3. Joy Division
4. Weezer (earlier stuff)
5. Siouxsie and the Banshees
Metallica. I don't care what people say. I dig all their music, even St. Anger. Something about them just makes me chill, and love life.
Fave song: Wherever I May Roam
Nirvana. Changed music forever. To this day, no band has had any major influence over music as they did. (kinda sad, its been 20 years)
Fave song: Come As You Are
Rage Against The Machine. Their music trips like no other.
Fave song: Calm Like A Bomb
Kid Rock. Yeah, I'm that guy. Once you get over his hits (which are still amazing), his songs are deep. They really make you think about yourself.
Fave song: Amen
Dropkick Murphys. A bunch of chill guys going out and having fun. They love their music, they love their fans, and they let me sing at their concert this year.
Fave song: Dirty Glass

Pink Floyd. I found Pink Floyd the same way most people born after their prime did. I heard Another Brick In the Wall II or Comfortable Numb somewhere or other and decided to look into them. I decided to get The Wall and listen to it as a whole. Indescribable. Easily the biggest influence on my life of every album I've ever heard. From Syd Barrett's really fun and psychedelic stuff to Roger Waters taking complete control, every album, every note is perfection.
Fav. song: Echoes
System of a Down. This is the band that got me into music in the first place. Serj, Daron, Shavo, and John compliment each other so well. Say what you want about the lyrics being "A bunch of random shit" as previously stated, but if you dig deep enough you can make something out of it yourself.
Fav. Song: P.L.U.C.K.
Black Sabbath. These guys invented metal. Sure Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, etc etc helped out, but Sabbath defines metal, and Sabbath perfected metal. Tony Iommi might be my favorite guitarist ever. I love his style so much. Geezer Butler also might be my favorite bassist, and Bill Ward is an awesome drummer. Ozzy's wails of agony, singing if you like, go so well with the atmosphere first batch of Sabbath albums. And Dio. Dio Dio Ronnie James Fucking Dio. Dio is God...or Satan. Whichever is better.
Fav. Song: N.I.B.
Those 3 are my top 3 bands, invariably. I'll give you two honorable mentions for the 4 and 5 slot, but these spots are pretty interchangeable.
Dio. I love this band (yes, it is a band...I hate when people think it's a solo thing). scroll up a few lines for my opinion on Ronnie J. Also, say what you want about Vivian Campbell (everyone has, including Dio himself) but he is a sick guitarist, and Holy Diver is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Fav. Song: Invisible
Buckethead. First off, yes, i did like him before GH2. In fact, I've only played the second one a couple of times. Buckethead really is an amazing guitarist. Many people say his style is too "immature?" but I thing that's what i like about him. I haven't heard all of his albums (the guy pumps one out every two weeks) but what I've head spreads out over quite a few different styles. He's pretty versatile. I've even got a KFC bucket hanging from the lights in my room
Fav. song: Gory Head Stump or Nottingham Lace

This is tough...One is for certain but to name others will be difficult, I guess.
1.Pink Floyd.
Because their music makes me happy and sad. It levels me out. I have never ever loved a band as much as I love PF. *big hugs to the Floyd* ^^. Even though the first music of theirs that I heard was from The Wall. Actually, I saw the movie first and then I wanted to hear more of their music. Although now I don't really listen to The Wall anymore because I love the older music more. The Wall is good...but it's overrated. I enjoy it more as a movie. The last two albums (A momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell) I like more than The Wall and The Final Cut. Sue me.
I'll have "Oh, By The Way", the box set soon. Yaay.
Favourite Song:...what? I favour everything...Okay well it's Echoes, hands down. Although that's probably untrue...there are too many songs to name, here.
2.Rammstein.
Despite being almost 100% in German, their music is elaborate and so bloody creative.
One of those bands that have defined their very own style and it's distinct. I love them.
Favourite Song: Dalai Lama and Stein um Stein
3.Hmm...1980's Metallica.
Because that's when their was good. Not that the later stuff is bad...I just like them more as a thrash metal Band.
Favourite Song: Easily Ride the Lightning.
4.Tears for Fears.
Because I can.
Favourite Song: Sowing the Seeds of Love and Shout.
5.Depeche Mode.
Some sexy music, yes.
Favourite Song: Precious, Dream On, Never Let Me Down Again etc.

1) iron maiden- the guitarists are so skilled and the drummer is able to change from slow and sad to thrash metal and back in the space of two seconds
and to me the singer doesnt matter they were all awesome-favourite song is to tame a land
2)metallica-their first 3 albums made me pick up a guitar fast yet technical and ...and justice for all was amazing - favourite song is hit the lights
3)slayer- the fact that the guitarists can do all the complicated patterns at such high speed along with the relentless double bass cancels out the fact that i dont know what theyre saying-favourite song is eyes of the insane
4)led zeppelin- just the right mix of folk picking and rock strumming backed by somewhat dodgy yet awesome drumming and lead by amazing bullshit from robert plant-favourite song is moby dick
5)black sabbath- monumental riffs amazing drums and brilliant bass
and ozzy osbourne-favourite song-iron man

1. Breaking Benjamin
Love 'em. Always have been always will.
2. Atreyu
From Fractures till Death-Grip... R.I.P. their good music and hello to the sell-outs. I hope they play their good stuff in May.
3. Bullet For My Valentine
Saw them in concert last year. Matt Tuck is damn sexy. Seening them again this year in May. With Atreyu and Avenged.
4. Avenged Sevenfold
Seventh Trumpet - City of Evil. A Little Piece of Heaven has interesting lyrics though.
5. Disturbed
Love 'em. Can't wait for their new album. Hope it's good.
It kinda changes from time to time, I am listening to a lot of Goregrind at the moment, which is quite a nice genre if you have listened to metal for quite some time. If you haven't, it's probably nothing for you, it takes some getting used to.
My top 5 for now is:
1. Anal Penetration
Ever since I heard the first thing by Anal Penetration on the cd "Uncontrolled Laxative Abuse", I was sold, this guy, known for other projects such as Bitch in the Van, uses a drum machine and plays the guitar very well. The vocals are pitchshifted, except on his last album, Spray for Jesus. Almost every album that I have heard from them was good, with one exception: The split with Anal Penetration and Anal Whore, but even the best artists can't be good on ALL the releases...
2. Sarcophaga Carnaria
I really like SC for quite some time now, they, too, were one the Uncontrolled Laxative Abuse split, which has brought quite some good artists to my attention. Sarcophaga Carnaria uses excellent pitchshifters to create a sound that is extremely sick.
3. Rompeprop
Not one goregrind fan from The Netherlands hasn't heard of this band, they aren't really "gore" though, because they sing about pelican dicks and fucking dolphins in the sprayhole. Still, the music is very good, the best album by them, IMO, is Menstrual Stomphulk
4. Anal Whore
This artist could've gotten higher in this list, if it wasn't for the first couple of years they excisted, in which they had more noisegrind than goregrind in their music. Nowadays this is one of the better artists in the goregrind-scene.
5. Last Days Of Humanity
Of course, as a goregrind fan, you must have heard of Last Days of Humanity. Personally, I own "The Sound of Rancid Juices Sloshing Around Your Coffin", and I've got the rest on my pc. I like every bit of them, their pitchshifted vocals, crazy drumming and distorted guitars.
Of course, there are countless other bands, such as Count Chapula, Cliteater, Urine Festival, Tumour, Tu Carne, Stoma, etc. But if I had to chose five, these would be them.

eh...this is suprisingly hard because I have long time faves and the ones that I love right now but don't know if they'll last...well, here goes:
1. R.E.M. ~ Will probably always be my favourite band, they got me into music in the first place when I heard their song Bad Day.
2. In Flames ~ This is quite a strange relationship though, most people love their old stuff and hate their new stuff. I love their new stuff, hate their old stuff...
3. Linkin Park ~ Again, old favourites die hard, no matter how publicly unfavoured they are (although, I admit - their latest album was rubbish).
4. Deftones ~ White Pony is one of my all time favourite albums, so no denying these guys.
5. Kamelot ~ While I've only heard two albums...both of them are definitely in my top album lists, one of them possible THE top...

Favourite song - The Only Medicine
2. Bullet For My Valentine ~ These guys are have pretty solid songs.
Favourite song - Hand of Blood
3. Coheed and Cambria ~ Everyone says they're emo, but they're not. They're progressive rock. I love how all of their albums follow a storyline of "The Amory Wars"
Favourite song - Welcome Home
4. Atreyu ~ Pure awesomeness.
Favourite song - When Two Are One
5. Behind Crimson Eyes ~ They've only released one album but they're releasing a new one this year. They're not that big right now but they will be soon.
Favourite song - Bullets for Blood
Queen ~ most amazing band of all time there 70s stuff is untouchable and even there new stuff is great =D. my all time favorite band i own most of there albums. (side note: lover roger taylor when he does vocals =P

Led Zeppelin ~ Robert Plant fucking amazing singer one of the best. Jimmy Page is atleast in the top 3 guitars for me, John paul jones is my Idol as an intrumentalist reason i started mandolin and organ, and Bonzo is just one of the best drummers in history
Favourite song - Communication Breakdown/The Lemon Song/tangerine/
Green Day ~ one of the more modern bands i like even though i do prefer the older stuff like dookie and insomniac
Favourite song - homcoming/ hitchin' a ride/longview
Nirvana and Metallica ~ couldn't deside on a favorite out of them so i'm counting them both as i think there both amazing =P

In no particular order:
The Beatles - Well, they're classic, aren't they? So many beautiful songs, both lyrics and melodies.
Queen - Freddy Mercury's voice is amazing, and so is the rest of the band. Composition and choir is outstanding. I can't help really listening and paying attention everytime I hear one of their songs.
Paolo Nutini - He makes me happy, gorgeous voice, wonderful lyrics.
The Killers - I love 98% of all their songs. They may not be that outstanding when it comes to either vocals, lyrics or melodies, but when you put it together it just sounds awesome.
Lykke Li - Soft voice, lovely and catchy melodies, good lyrics. I listen to her when I'm feeling halfway between happy and depresses.

Avenged Sevenfold- Their new album is full of meaning, the older ones are just pure amazingness
Coheed & Cambria- Epic band, great storyline to follow with the music+ the Amory Wars
Iron Maiden- The true 80's metal band, how can you not like them? Number of the Beast is the best album ever.
Metallica- Right along with Iron Maiden as a great metal band (thought their last three albums were total shit)
Guns N' Roses- I want the old lineup back *cry*

No Particular Order.
Guns n Roses: They may have come about by fluke but IMO best band to have existed ever. Then Axel had to kill it and make me sad. Now all they have is emos who can actually play guitar and, well, just Axel.
System of a Down: Including Serj Tankian's solo stuff, it sounds just like old system anyway.. They're so random and different, but still not really shite. This is the only band that I can tolerate screaming/roaring in. It actually fits with the music, and doesn't just sound really angry and stupid. I hate any other bands that scream.
Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler: Mark Knopfler is awesome. I mean Dire Straits! Sultans of Swing, Brothers in Arms, Romeo and Juliette, And A crapload more. His solo stuff is quite nice too: Postcards from Paraguay, Why aye etc etc... probably my most favoritest band.
Metallica Kings of Metal.
Led Zeppelin I like old bands like this. Bands that are awesome when you compare them to the shit sort of stuff that floats around today. And are still awesome without said comparison.
Other notable bands: zz top, yngwie malmsteen, pink floyd, the eagles.

Trivium: Awesome lead singer, great vocal range.
Killswitch Engage: Cover of Holy Diver kicks ass.
Avenged Sevenfold: New album may not be as good as previous installments, but it's still great.
Seether: South African rock!
Breaking Benjamin: Evil Angel is my anthem.

ok, here they are (in no particular order)-
The Hives-ok, they arent too talented, but dammit do they have a ton of energy. I havent seen them in concert yet, but I definitely want to. Love them. FAVORITE SONGS:Two Timing Touch And Broken Bones, Die, All Right!
The White Stripes-Jack White is a genious. period. Anyone who says this band has no talent needs to go fall in a hole. just because Meg doesnt do mainstream drumbeats means shes an awful drummer. I love the minimalist sound they have, and Jacks creative lyrics/riffs. they might be my actual favorite. FAVORITE SONGS:either Fell In Love With A Girl, 300 mph Outpour Blues.
The Strokes-just...another favorite band of mine. Julians a very good song writer and I just really like the sounds they all make together. and Is This It? is probably one of my all time favorite albums. FAVORITE SONGS: The Modern Age, Reptilia
Queens Of The Stone Age-these guys are just...really awesome. Josh Homme is one cool dude. they come up with some really different stuff, and its just earthy and..it rocks. FAVORITE SONGS: Turnin On The Screw, Broken Box
The Raconteurs-really fun to listen to. they all sound very good together, and Jack and Brendan are both great song writers. I also love the way Patrick drums. Carolina Drama is also, as of today, maybe my favorite song. FAVORITE SONGS:Carolina Drama, Intimate Secretary

Trivium: Awesome lead singer, great vocal range.
Great vocal range? Yeah, right. I'd probably say he would span an octave, maybe octave and a half with his singing. Not impressive in the slightest.
Try someone like Chris DeBurgh for good vocal range.

1.) Metallica - Favorite band since I got into my own music taste, I even like St. Anger if I'm in the mood. (favorite sing - Master of Puppets)
2.) Reel Big Fish - Favorite ska band and they're hilarious. (Take on Me Cover)
3.) Pink Floyd - Love the creativity and was completly blown away by the Wall and DSotM when I first heard them. (All of the wall and dsotm)
4.) AFI - When I first hit puberty I thought their stuff was powerful, but it doesn't have a huge effect on me anymore. Now I just know everything about them and every lyric so it's fun listening to them still. (all of sing the sorrow)
5.) Coheed and Cambria - I saw them at a Linkin Park concert and was blown away. (Welcome Home)
