As a kid, I LOVED Pokemon, I was a "Pokemon Master," if anyone in my school had a Pokemon question, I knew the answer, when Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium two came out, I was there getting them, I bought the origional Super Smash Brothers mostly for Pikachu and Jigglypuff, and to a lesser extent Mario and Luigi, and I had a HUGE collection of cards, I wouldn't be suprised if I had all the origionals, I remember playing Pokemon Red & Blue as a kid, and never wanting to stop, my teachers took away my Gameboy daily. I liked Gold & Silver as well, but not as much as Red & Blue.
Anyone else love Pokemon as a kid? What are people's opinions on the third and fourth generations? Personally, I think there are a few cool newer Pokemon, but nothing as great as first and second. Also, what were peoples "best six?" mine were:
-Blastoise
-Articuno
-Moltres
-Zapdos
-Beedrill
-Alakazam

Loser. But we all were at one point.
Mine was Blastoise and thats it. The others are overshadowed by the 'toise.

Now I feel like playing Pokemon Silver again. I got alot of cards as well, and got Pokemon Red, Yellow, Gold (my brother's) and Silver.
My favorite was Blastoise as well, or Squirtle.
The 3rd and 4rth generation is uninspired and sucks.

I have all the Pokemon games up to Diamond and Pearl, I have at least 3 different Pokemon cards for every Pokemon(except the Diamond and Pearl new ones because they are gay), and 4 of the championship awarded Pokemon cards(Team Rocket's Snorlax, Misty's Seadra, etc.)
I think I might have been a fan :ahe:
My best team was:
Jolteon
Pidgeott
Charizard
Blastoise
Gengar
Golem
We Rocked.
Hats of!

I remember Pokémon being the greatest thing ever happen'd to my school. We had previously enjoyed such artifacts as Marbles or other sorts of games.
It was with the gards most action happen'd (and for some rich kids, also the games). I remember finding Pokémon Blue at my yard, something very odd considering we live in the forest, abit far from the main city (5 minutes to be exact).
Although, pokémon vanished rather quickly from our school. It was considerd to be childish while most kids in other schools of other countries continued with it.
And my favorite pokémon must've been some boring one.
I was one of the first few to introduce it at my school.
Looking back, I miss my ditto.

Those marbles were awesome! I gave my friend 2 dollars for his Sandshrew, Squirtle, and Gengar ones, which are my 3 favorite Pokemon. I still have mine somewhere.

I'm starting to realise everyone liked Blastoise, and in Gold and Silver my favorite were Tododile, just because he was so cool. I always argued with my best freind about if first and second generations were fighting which one would win. We still do sometimes, I always say 1st generation because of Mewtwo and Mew, Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos mostly, but he'd say second because of Entai, Raiku, Suikune, Lugia, and Ho-oh. Also there were like 51 more first gens than second gens.

Well, I'll say this. I played through the Pokemon games a lot of times, and always used a different set, I had a Sandslash in my party every single time. Sandslash is the coolest Pokemon. Period.
That said, there were a few others I used quite a bit:
~Pidgey-Pidgeot was generally my flying type
~Kadabra/Alakazam I used quite a bit
~starting Pokemon obviously, and I always tried to pick a different one
~Raichu, because he's cute and badass at the same time
~Magmar
I played R/B/Y and G/S. I have Fire Red also, which I havent ever gotten close to beating. Besides the fact that I'm rather grown out of Pokemon by now, they just shouldnt be making more and more new Pokemon. New games = NO.

I've actually managed to form a small group of Pokémon card players at my high school, and it's constantly growing. People will see my friends and me playing and forget about its "lame" society label and just remember how fun the game is. I still play my Game Boy games too. I had all 150 on my Blue, but lost that long ago. So now I'm stuck with just G/S, Leaf Green, and the Pokémon TCG video game. And of course I'll throw down in Pokémon Stadium minigames any day of the week. The fact of the matter is Pokémon is a fun concept that just happens to be marketed towards kids. If you stop playing something great just because society says it's not cool anymore, then The Man wins.

I was fucking pro.
Still have 151 pokemon owned on my pokemon blue (only played gold/silver on a japanese version, I had to remember the attacks by what order they were in and shit lol). Don't actually have them all but got all owned in my pokedex thing. I'd have to go look for my gameboy to check my best six.
Some I remember being in there were zapdos and jolteon, blastoise, mewtwo, articuno (I think) and.. Not sure.
I never lost a 1v1 yet, that was just playing friends though, never been in them tournament things.
Only just read all prev posts - Why the hell do you all have Pidgeott in your final team - one thunder and he's done with. I beat pokeleague like 60 times on my current game, not sure 'cause some are blurred out because I abused the bug to multiply rare candies and master balls xD
I made the mistake of charging my Venusaur and no one else, so while that was at level 98 (only 1 rare candy used), my next highest guy was a level 40-something Areodactyl.

Pokemon was my youth. :)
Instead of most people I didn't have a team of nesseceraly the coolest pokemon, but a team of carefully chosen pokemon that would together be in advantage of every pokemontyp. My team was unbeatable.
My pokemon blue team:
Venusaur
Golem
Pidgeot
Dragonite
Golbat
Gengar

Even if they're level 100 aswell, not even a pokemon with a disadvantage will be killed with one attack if they're at level 100 aswell.
Zapdos, Charizard, Dragonite, Nidoking, Magmar and Gyarados were the best. A cheeky wee Gengar would never go amiss though. I fucking loved the original Pokemon.

After reading this thread, I started a new game on my Fire Red. Thanks a lot, hahaha. Chose Bulbasaur. Got a Mankey and a Pikachu so far. However, I'm determined to do a totally original team this time through. No Trio-Birds, no Pidgeot. No Pikachu (once i use it to beat Misty). I'm even gonna hold off and not use a Sandslash, which will be a first for me. Instead of just evolving everything, I'm gonna hold some back so they learn faster (as in, I don't intend to ever let my Bulbasaur evolve). Anyway, off to play it some more. lol.
And Krabby, you're right, Pidgeot is a weak one to have in a final, high-level group. I used it when lower, but further in I always switched it out for one of the Trio-Birds.

But did you have Pokemon Snap? I remember snapping Mew. That little bastard is hard to get.
I love the title for this topic. I have owned every single US released Pokemon game. From Red to Blue to Yellow to Gold and Silver to Crystal to Ruby/Sapphire to Emerald to FireRed/LeafGreen and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl today.
I also owned a GBA Pokemon Trading Card game. It was odd. and barely in color, but I liked it except for the slow pace.

yeah, i remember playing the trading card GBA game. Thinking back, it was really kind of stupid. I mean -- it was a gameboy game in which you played the card game. Why not just play the game with real cards?!?!?! Or play the other gameboy games?!?! Doesn't make sense.

I used a Brainboy on my Silver and Gold. It's like what action replay is now, but for Pokemon. I made my Pikachu learn surf, fly, and hydro pump. I made so much money letting people borrow that.
I played Diamond recently and caught every pokemon you could on that one, now I just need Pearl and an Action Replay.
I got out my red a month or so ago and I had [&#@] number of rare candies somehow. When I used them my Mewtwo turned into a Missingno. I kid you not. I was scared and mad.
My Blue Team was the shit.
-Starting pokemon (of course)
-Garydos
-Nidoking
-Onyx

Oh yeah, I remember I had some type of battle coins or something, each with a pokemon on it and you would spin them and whichever one fell, the winner got to keep it. It was the king of school lunchtime games.

I used to be the Poke-MAN (:roffle:) back when I was a kid. I remember playing Red (Fuck Blue) on my original Brick-Boy until like, 2 in the morning (On a school night!)
We even managed to get Pokemon cards (Magic cards too, but that's another story) banned at our elementary school, because that's all we did. We would literally sneak off to the bathroom during class to trade pokemon cards like some kind of fucked up black market.

I forget my exact line up, but Blastoise was my main man. I played Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold but my blue one was the only one I beat without using cheats (I beat gold but then used one gameshark cheat and my game got erased) I had every pokemon in blue as well.
How can you guys forget Nidoking? He was the man.

My 6:
Charizard
Blastioise(I traded with my other version to get squirtle)

I don't understand how people were able to keep a Missingno without their game screwing up. After I caught one, my cartridge wasn't able to save games anymore. At ten years old, making the thirty-ish dollars one of those games cost was quite a challenge.
But anyway, I still play Pokemon from time to time, but I generally get bored after I beat the Elite Four and start over again.
Anyway, my team was
Dragonite
Alakazam (I used to trade with my friends that played, but when they stopped playing, I just traded with another one of my Gameboys)

For some reason, me and my cousin did a trade, and he traded me his Haunter for something. and when I got it, it evolved into a Gengar(sp?) and he wanted it back so badly, but he couldn't get it back for some reason. I forgot why exactly. But it was hilarious.

I played this stuff when I was 9, but a few monthes ago i went and looked into pokemon again "for old times sake", Really, its pretty good, its just too childish, if they got rid of all the lame crap it would be an ok anime...
At the moment I have Emerald version (3rd gen), and Fire red (also 3rd gen, but its just a remake of red with better graphics), on my phone for fun when Im bored. To be honest in Emerald version theyve almost completely abandonned the 1st and 2nd generations, which were the best sofar, Crystal was by far the best. Currently in pokemon fire red my lineup is Kabuto, porygon, gyarados, articuno, zapdos, and moltres, and i gotta charge them all up for the elite 4, which I really cant be bothered to do because it takes so long, so I probably wont bother. In emerald I still only have my starter at level 7, I havent been playing it much.

Blue and Gold were the best from what I played. IMHO, they should have stayed at 151 pokemon. I don't do anything with Pokemon anymore, haven't in over like 9 years, but I still have cards/etc I'm going to sell one day.
Yeah, I think some the newer pokemon pokemon look so lame, as if no effort was put into creating them. Like a floating heart? What the fuck is up with that? Does it evolve into a floating kidney or something?
The 1st generation was the number 1 past time in my childhood. I lost my Blue cartridge a while ago and I was pretty bummed out. My lineup usually went something along the lines of.
- Starter (Usually Bulbasaur or Charmander)
- Golduck
- Gengar
- Nidoking
- Victreebell or Arcanine (Respective to starter choice).
- Weezing
Yep, I was abit of a poison user. My friends wouldnt battle against me because all i would do was poison and confuse them.

Screw all you guys using legendaries
On my Gold cartridge I have all 250 Pokemon.
As for parties:
Blue:
Muk
Nidoking
Kingler
Fearow (for Fly)
Ninetails
Marowak
It's been a while since I played Blue, and I think the current party in my recent game only has half of these, but this was my favourite line up I've had. Fearow is a weak point, but I liked him more than Pidgeot, and you really need fly. Kingler was always a favourite. The rest of them are ones I just came about on my journey and liked so kept. Tauros is my all time favourite, I remember spending hours in the Safari Zone just to catch him. But these days I'm lazy, so won't include him.
As for Muk, I think I'm the only person who uses it as a pivotal member of the team. I love Muk, my level 40 Muk singlehandedly beat the first 2 members of the Elite Four. Keep in mind that their pokemon are all above level 50.
Gold:
Tauros
Jolteon
Arcanine
Slowking
Lapras
Skarmory
3 of my 5 favourite pokemon. Skarmory isn't a favourite, but he's the best pokemon I found who can use Fly. Slowking never used to be a favourite, but he kicks ass so now is. Lapras isn't a favourite, so I'm considering dropping him for a Kingler. Same with considering dropping Arcanine for a Muk. But they're all level 100, so I dunno if I can be bothered.
Dream Team:
Tauros
Muk
Jolteon
Kingler
Slowking
Something that can Fly (so probably Skarmory)

I noticed that too. there weren't many strong pokemon to choose from. But i guess thats why you could get all the pokemon into your Diamond & Pearl. I remember hearing that people got mad when sapphire & ruby came out because they couldn't transfer their pokemon from Gold, silver, & crystal.

That's probably because there was a box glitch that allowed you to copy your pokemon. Allowing you to have a whole team of that one level 100 pokemon or just trading people a copy of your pokemon. So you're not really losing anything.

Exactly. You have to put in hours of work or just be very damn lucky. and all of this is just step one! You have to feed him enough Pokeblocks to raise it's beauty up to a certain point, and if you screw that up you have to catch him again, once you do that, you can evolve it into one of the coolest pokemon I've ever seen.

I remember that I knew all the 151 Pokemon names by heart. The cartoons went kind of stale after a while. As far as anime's go, they weren't so great in the first place either.

Anyone here see a "Wild Cooltrainer" using the missingo glitch?? When you beat him your pokemon goes to level 128 and evolves to Ivysaur. I was like WtF?

ok, so I've basically been playing nothing but Fire Red this week (why? because I'm low on money and am tired of all my other video games).
Actually managed to catch a Chansey and a Kangaskhan at the Safari Zone. Don't know how.
Not sure what my final team for the Elite Four will be, but currently I have:
-Dragonair (lv43)
-Arcanine (lv43)
-Marowak (lv48)
-Zapdos (lv52)
-Haunter (lv45)
-Vaporeon (lv43)
I had my Venusaur up till then, but honestly, it's useless against the Elite Four. Only one I'd use it against is Lorelei, and I have my Zapdos for them. Only one that's even above 50 right now is the Zapdos though, so I'm just battling in as far as I can till I get defeated in order to level 'em all up. It's gonna take a while; couldn't even beat Agatha...

Yeah I got the Milotic but it was so weak I couldn't even use it. I wonder what's next after Diamond and Pearl.

You don't catch a Dragonair. You catch a Dratini. Evolves at 30.You have to go fishing in the Safari Zone with a Super Rod, and even then it's a rare appearance, hard to catch, and flees often to boot. Fun, huh? It's a dragon type, although it can learn plenty of other stuff. I almost always end up having a Dragonair/Dragonite in my final party, and I always teach it Surf. (Mines Surf/Agility/Dragon Rage/Slam at the moment).
I had the craziest thing happen though. I almost beat all the Elite Four AND my Rival with that party I just listed in my last post, earlier today. HOW THE HELL DID I MANAGE THAT?! I used oodles of revives and potions, but even so. How the hell did I beat 53-60's with a bunch of 45s? I managed to get my rivals Charizard (last one left), I only had my Haunter left, no revives left. I'd been doing Hypnosis/Dream Eater, but Charizard woke up and flamed my Haunter before I could put it back to sleep... *tear*

It's not all that hard. I beat the Elite Four with pokemon at levels: 38, 40, 42, 43, 48 and 48. My level 42 Muk took care of the first two by itself, then was useless for the rest as it had run out of almost all PP for it's best moves. I had lots of PP for Disable and Poison Gas though :\

Quick note before I rant. Isn't this game annoyingly addictive? I want to go out and get Ruby or Sapphire AND a second GBA now, so I can trade and get some of the new Pokemon. I saw a video on YouTube of a guy who had Umbreon and some R/S one in his party in Fire Red...
--------------------------------------------
Muk, huh? I suppose that wouldnt be too bad. Muk has a lot of defense and HP. This is what I did for the most part. What Pokemon did you use? What moves?
Lorelei = I used Zapdos the whole time, Thunder OHKOed everything but the Slowbro. I hate Slowbro
Bruno = Haunter with Hypnosis/Dream Eater, maybe Zapdos with Fly
Agatha = Marowak with Earthquake/Bonemerang against the poison types, Haunter against the other ghosts... Her last Gengar was a bitch to kill. I almost lost against it. I think it was actually my Arcanine who finally managed to get it.
Lance surprisingly wasn't that hard. Zapdos took out the Gyarados pretty well. Aerodactyl, I used either my Dragonair or my Vaporeon, I forget. Both have Surf. For the Dragonairs and the Dragonite, my Vaporeon with Aurora Beam and Blizzard.
For my rival (Leeroy. Kudos to anyone who knows what I'm referencing)... Type advantage ftw like always
His // mine
Pidgeot // Zapdos
Exeggcute // Arcanine
Gyarados // Zapdos
Allakazam // blah, like three got taken out by him. Damn Psychic, and he's fast. He's why I lost
Charizard // I think I had my haunter left, it's what I finally got the Allakazam with. Charizard did Flamethrower... yeah...

Lorelei: Zapdos or jolteon
Bruno: Blastoise
Agatha: Zapdos or jolteon
Lance: Zapdos or jolteon

Pidgeot vs zapdos
Exceggute vs Not sure.. jolteon's pin missile was quite strong against leaf pokemon I reckon?

Muk, huh? I suppose that wouldnt be too bad. Muk has a lot of defense and HP. This is what I did for the most part. What Pokemon did you use? What moves?
Muk's always been a strong point in my parties. I always catch one on Cinnibar, then take him to the Elite Four with me.
My party:
Lvl 42 Muk
Lvl 48 Blastoise
Lvl 48 Kadabra
Lvl 42 Ninetails
Lvl 45 Fearow
Lvl 38 Marowak
Against the first 2 of the Elite Four, it was mostly a solo effort by Muk. He defeated all of Lorlei's and most of Bruno's by using Minimize (raises Muk's evasion), then Poison Gas (poisons the opponent), then repeated Sludges.
After he ran out of PP for Sludge, I'd use Poison Gas, the use disable and wait for the opponent to die of poison damage. And it works really well, they almost never hit Muk thanks to Minimize. I use Minimize 3 times, up until I'm running out of Sludge, then I use it the max 6 times.
Agatha: by this point Muk was useless. All he can do is struggle. I used Kadabra throughout this match and just kept using Psychic.
Lance: this was a bitch. None of my pokemon are super effective against dragons, and to make matters worse, they were at roughly 10 levels below his pokemon's levels, meaning it'd take strategy. Fully revived and healed all pokemon, even Muk. This was just a matter of sending out my biggest pokemon and using their strongest moves. Blastoise and Kadabra, and Fearow, to a degree, were the on ly ones able to put a big enough dent in the dragons, so I used those 3, and when they were all down, switched to one of the other 3, and used items to bring the power 3 back.
Rival: I heal all pokemon again before starting this match. Also, I can't remember the order he sent them out, but yeah.
Pidgeot: Blastoise. He gets lucky, and it's close. Blastoise is really weakened after this.
Arcanine: Blastoise prevails with water based moves. Woo.
Gyarados: Blastoise is useless, so Kadabra is used. Win!
Alakazam: Shit. Blastoise and Kadabra get finished off here. Use same strategy as used against Lance: use a shit pokemon and use items while it gets beaten up to recover Kadabra and Blastoise. Send out Fearow after that and he cleans suit.
Venusaur: Kadabra took it easily.
Rhydon: Blastoise. 'Nuff said.
ONE MORE EDIT -- Does the game continue after you beat the Elite Four? Is it still boring like the original R/B/Y where all that's left is the cave in Cerulean? Or is there more storyline?
In Gold/Silver once you beat the 8 gyms there and the Elite Four, you get to fight the 8 leaders from Red/Blue/Yellow. Then once you do all that you get another fun opponent.

I know about Gold/Silver. I've done Gold/Silver. You get to fight Ash (or Red, stupid thing to call him) after finishing everything else.
But I'm playing Fire Red. And I already got the answer to that question actually, found a thing on YouTube where a guy made a walkthrough of the entire game. Once you beat the Elite Four and your rival, you get the National Pokedex and start finding new stuff. That's all I know yet, I just watched right after he beat the Elite Four to see if there was more after, and saw that. Dunno where you go.

Ugh. Levitate = the worst ability ever. As in the best. I hate it. That ability makes 90% of poison pokemon immune to ground. If it wasn't for that move, Agatha would be so much easier. And Bikers. Koffing, Weezing, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar.... all immune to ground. And of course Zubat and Golbat fly. So out of all the poison Pokemon, only Grimer/Muk and the Nidorans can be hit by ground-type.
Therefore, Agatha = evil. My Haunter uses Hypnosis/Dream Easter, but Hypnosis misses way too often; aggravating...

Tauros because it was so stupid hard to catch, yet I'd always torture myself to catch one. Venusaur because I'd always start with Bulbasaur and he was kinda like a legendary, being a starter.
Muk because I'd catch him on Cinnabar every game, and he was always surprisingly good.
Kingler because he's a crab, mofo.
Mine are Persian, Tyranitar and Espeon.
Persian because he was holy in the R/B days, and can learn a wide variety of moves, despite walking on four legs.
Tyranitar because he fucking strong and can pretty much annihilate anything that isn't a fighting type.
Espeon because he was my second 3rd strongest Pokemon of all time, level 98 in Crystal version and her moves are just awesome as well.

Blastoise: Teach him Surf, and ditch all his other Water moves, maybe keep Bubblebeam for PP reasons.
Primeape: All he's gunna do against the Elite Four is die rather quickly. Personally, I'd swap him out for some sort of status damage, like a poison type or grass type.
Golem: Not gunna be a great deal of use against the Elite Four, a better powerhouse would be Machamp or a Rhydon.
Hypno: Good choice. Have Psychic, possibly Psybeam as well for PP. Hypnosis could help in tough battles, but Reflect and Barrier would really make Hypno stick around for a good portion of the Elite Four.
Zapdos: I'm anti-legendary, so I don't like this choice, even though Zapdos is my favourite legendary. I would have used an Electrode or Jolteon in it's place, but if you're happy to use legendaries, stick with him. Make sure he has Drill Peck and Thunder/Thunderbolt beforehand.
Arcanine: Probably the best fire type you're gunna get, bar maybe Charizard depending on strategy. If he has Flamethrower and Take Down, you're laughing.

Mmmm yeah, Golduck was always my favorite water type. Which raises the question of why is my current water type a Dewgong? (oh wait, that's right, dewgong gets ice (elite four), and it was a traded one).
Actually since I'm done with storyline stuff and just getting more pokemon, my current Surfer is Lickitung. I love that he can learn almost every HM. Pretty sure Nidoking can learn Surf too.
EDIT: Although I think my all time favorite is now Umbreon. And I've never actually owned one. It just looks so fucking cool that I know it will rock once I have one. Plus Psychic can't do shit to Dark.

If I replace Primeape with Articuno, would that be better? I think Golem would come in handy against Gary's fire type.
Golem or Rhydon would be great for Gary's final.
As for Articuno, meh. I'd go more for Dodrio since he can learn Drill Peck and is hella fast. (Well wait, are you playing the originals or the remakes?)

I'm playing original red. And Rhydon sucks.
Rhydon is good if you utilize his moveset well. He gets STAB for Earthquake and Rockslide, and he also knows Surf as well.
Another recommended Pokemon is Persian. Fo serious. Not only does it have a wide variety of moves to teach it, it is also one of the fastest critters in the game. And when packed with Slash from the B/R days (extremely high critical hit rate), along the fact that it's Normal type thus receiving STAB, he is a complete monster. It'd be nice to teach Hyper Beam as well, considering it was a lot better in the R/B days as well. And you know what else? Persian receives STAB as well. Tho you don't NEED him, just suggesting a good player for anyone starting up teh originals again.
BTW, STAB is when a Pokemon uses a move that is the same type as itself.
For example, if Blastoise (a Water type) were to use Surf (a Water type move), it would have 1.5x more potential than say Rhydon who receives no STAB since he is Rock type using a Water type move.

Yep.
And I've been looking around at serebii.net (everything Pokemon). Has a very detailed Pokedex for every version after (and including) Gold/Silver. Where stuff is, what it learns, when, how/when it evolves. Very nice site. Looking at what's available in LF compared to FR, I wish I'd gotten LG. Vulpix (growlithe in FR), sandshrew, Misdreavus once you're at the Sevii Islands, cheaper Porygon @ Celadon Game Corner. Blah.
Pokedex (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/)
I have Leaf Green, and I'm pissed that Skarmory, Oddish, and Scyther are Fire Red exclusive. Skarmory is probably my favorite Pokémon from the Gold/Silver era.

Seeing as how Articuno's legendary, and Primeape really has no advantages against the Elite Four, then yes, it would be a good choice.
Rhydon has the same advantages that Golem has, if not more. As Lance said, he can learn Surf, Earthquake and Rock Slide, being very versatile. Rhydon would be useful against probably 1/4 of the Elite Four's pokemon, as opposed to Golem being useful against one or two.
I think Lance has been taught the same way I have, as I've just started a new game on Blue and my main pokemon is a Meowth.
Rhydon > Golem. By a lot. Golem's very closed strategically. Rhydon's versatile.

My favourite pokemon was always Scissor. He just looked so badass.
My team for Crystal was:
Tyranitar
Venusaur which i got from my blue.
Skarmory
Scissor
Politoad
Typhlosion
I wasn't a fan of Legendaries, Because I didn't get to raise them alot.
I'm reading this, and I feel lame. I was only into pokemon for the cuteness factor. And I was oddly obsessed with the breeding/hatching eggs part of it.
The only one I played extensively was gold. My favorite was always the plant one, (Chikorita, something, and Meganium? Not sure.) I think mainly because it was pink. The fact that it was a guy always bothered me. My entire team would just be made up of the ones I thought were cute, especially dog-like ones. I still beat it a few times though. The new ones bother me. They're less creature-like and more robot-ish. I could never play them because of it. Blame the extra X chromosome.

Hahahaha. Right, because we Fire Red players totally get Scythers left and right. I've gone through the Safari zone about 30 times, and only ever seen two. Neither has stayed in the Pokeball for even one rock-back-and-forth, and flee their first turn. However, Scyther IS definitely cooler than Pinsir. If I ever manage to get a Scyther, I'll use it, definitely. Been trying to get a Kangaskhan lately too. Seen quite a few, but I haven't managed to catch one yet. Just a Chancey.
As for being pissed at exclusiveness, I hate that Misdreavus, Vulpix, Staryu, Sandshrew are all Leaf Green-exclusive. And that you can't evolve an Umbreon or Espeon in FR/LG.

Oh and speaking of Pikachu... I stuck my Raichu in the daycare with the Ditto, and when the Pichu hatched, I was amazed at its moves. It STARTED with Thunderbolt. And Double Team. Kickass...
Oh and again speaking of breeding -- I love that you can get all of the (original) Evee evolutions without having to trade now. Hurrah!

Breeding started back in Gold/Silver. I'm not sure how every single aspect works, but I know this -- Put something in there with an ditto (they can raise two Pokemon at once), and after a while you'll get an egg with that Pokemon's lowest form. Like when I gave them my Raichu and my Ditto, I got a Pichu egg. When I gave them my Ditto and my Jolteon, I got two Eevee eggs (I took the first one, then left the Jolteon there till a second one appeared). Leave Hitmonchan/Lee/Top and you'll get Tyrogue. Etc, etc, etc.
EDIT: Blah, noticed at first it said "put something in there with an Eevee. I meant to say Ditto, not Eevee. So I edited...

Dresden
02-07-2008, 11:26 PM
Meh, well from what I've seen they finally got rid of all the glitches by the time they reached FR/LG. So, alas, no Missingno or box save glitches. And I know that FR/LG were supposed to just be remakes of R/B, but I wish they'd put more into the game. I loved GS for the reason that after you've done Johto, you can then go to Kanto. SOOO much to do. The Sevii Islands kept me occupied for about 2-4 hours max. Nothing to compare to a whole continent.
Also, they only give you about a dozen of the Johto Pokemon in the Sevii islands, but Oak still wants you to get your Pokedex filled with all 250 Kanto/Johto Pokemon. Lame.
Sarge51
02-07-2008, 11:28 PM
I loved Gold and Silver as well. It brought something new with new pokemon, but it also brought you to the classic game but at a different time (I believe there was a few small changes made to Kanto.)
I never completed FR or LG. I just couldn't do it. I don't really know why. I mean, it had great new features, but I wasn't feeling it.

I bred my Eevee in Gold, ended up with all the evolutions.
Silver was the best game. They definately need to do a remake like what they did with Red version and Green version.
But yeah, I lost my Silver version. I think it was something like:
Chansey (100)
Clefable (100)
Lapras (100)
Mewtwo (100)
Zapdos (75)
Maganium (60)
Then there's my Diamond version:
Torterra (75)
Honchkrow (70)
Togekiss (70)
Golduck (65)
Bibarel (50)
Leafeon (55)
I just hate the fact that you can't get Butterfree, Beedrill, Ninetails and Electabuzz without having the other versions.

02-08-2008, 5:54 PM
So I apparently lost my Silver version, and my Gold version no longer holds a save game. As in, I started a new one, played like 20 minutes, saved, turned it off. Came back later, no save game there. Lame.
Hey guys, I recently decided to play my Silver version again, and apprntly my Pokemon got reset from levels like 56 to 36 and ended up all the way after beating the 8th gym.
I've decided to challenge the Elite Four after training all of my [good] possible choices to at least 40. Though I recently became a little torn, it looks like Eevee is ready to evolve (not using stones, using those on his children). And I was wondering, should I make him evolve to Umbreon or Espeon?

Dresden
02-08-2008, 8:00 PM
what is even effective against dark? I've never really had a dark-type before, so I haven't had to know. All I know is its good against ghost and psychic, and psychic has zero effect on it.
Sarge51
02-08-2008, 8:06 PM
This is what I found:
Ghost
Defensive Strengths: Poison, Bug
Weaknesses: Ghost, Dark
Immune to: Normal, Fighting (Exception: If Foresight is cast, those attacks will damage Ghosts)
Advantages: Psychic, Ghost
Disadvantages: Dark, Steel
Immunities: Normal (Exception: Confuse Ray and Nightmare)
Notes: Too bad the only pure Ghost-type (No Poison, and therefore no
weakness to Psychics) learns no Ghost-type attacks. Of course, you could always give Misdreavus the Shadow Ball TM...
Dark
Defensive Strengths: Ghost, Dark
Weaknesses: Fighting, Bug
Immune to: Psychic
Offensive Advantages: Psychic, Ghost
Disadvantages: Dark, Steel, Fighting
Immunities: None
Notes: Psychics aren't ruling the playing field anymore, now are they? Still, this type only shows up ONCE as a free-
standing type, and that's with Umbreon.
I think this is kind of out dated though.
Dresden
02-08-2008, 8:13 PM
Ah. Fighting and bug, huh? I tend not to use fighting when going up against the Elite Four because it would get zero use, and bug-type attacks are just plain rare.
The only bug attacks I know of are Pin Missile and Fury Cutter, and stuff that learns those is just as rare. I was partly wondering about Dark-type because of the Tyranitar my rival has the 2nd time I face him as Champion.
He prevents me from just going through the whole Elite Four with my Mewtwo and my Jolteon to level lower stuff up (and therefore evolve it, and progress my Pokedex). I can generally get past all 4, and beat his Heracross, but then he sends out Tyranitar. Yeah...

Tyranitar is a beast. I would really love to catch one of them.
Dresden
02-08-2008, 8:27 PM
Can't catch. Gotta catch a Larvitar. They're really rare in GS, but I found one just going about my business in the Sevii Islands. They're basically Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite when it comes to leveling.
Larvitar ---> (lv30) Pupitar ---> (lv55) Tyranitar
So far I've gotten my Pupitar to 35. This is gonna take a while. And I FINALLY managed to catch a Kangaskhan today, after like 30 runs through the Safari Zone. I don't care if it's a normal type that never evolves, Kangaskhan is a beast.
EDIT: Dunno how many saw this when I posted it a few days ago, but I'll post it again in case anyone wants it. Very useful site for anything Pokemon. http://www.serebii.net/
I remember Tyranitar from when I got him in Crystal. 3 words. Total. Fucking. Beast. It's moveset is extremely versatile and unless your opponent is using a Fighting type, you can easily crush anything in your path.
Hell, it learns the best moves in the game:
Hyper Beam
Focus Punch
Fire Blast
Earthquake
Surf
Rock Slide
Crunch
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt

not sure what is more odd, Pokemon that can learn TM moves that are totally different from their type, or Pokemon who never naturally learn any moves of their type. Like, i was just looking at Ledyba/Ledian on Serebii. They're bug/flying. They learn only normal and psychic moves. Gah, YOU CONFUSE ME, POKEMON.

Yeah, the new games completely regiment things so you can't make mistakes like that. I miss how the old games had no qualms about fucking the player over.

I'm not a huge fan of the day care apart from breeding. If the Pokemon stays in there a long time, it learns the moves it would naturally learn, whether you want it to or not, pushing out old moves as it levels. So unless you want it to learn all the moves it'll get, ya gotta be careful. Or just wait till it's like 55 and has learned everything, then just stick it in there to level it up even higher.
In case anyone's interested, I've decided to put together and train up a new team to challenge the 2nd-stage Elite Four. Totally scrapped my old team. Why? Because I felt like it. Only one I kept is my Jolteon.
-Crobat
-Tyranitar (I'm gonna teach it flamethrower, so it'll be my fire-type too)
-Mewtwo//hopefully I can train a dif. psychic up that's not so cheap

I actually trained those sons of a bitches. I accidently got 99 Full Restores instead of Rare Candies.
Speaking of Yellow, god damnit that was hard. Especially training for the first gym by evolving my Nidoran to Nidorino to learn Double Kick.
Easier to catch a caterpie, he becomes butterfree at level 10 and learns confusion, can solo Brock then.
Just been on hols for a week and had a look at my blue, team turned out to be:
Alakazam
Flareon
Jolteon
Zapdos
Mewtwo
Blastoise
Alakazam still in training (~73 now), rest 100. No rare candies used.

Nice choice. Make sure to give it Double Team.
-Tyranitar (I'm gonna teach it flamethrower, so it'll be my fire-type too)
If I remember right, don't Tyranitar's have low Special Attack? If so, Flamethrower's gunna blow. Check out his stats before giving it to him.
-Mewtwo//hopefully I can train a dif. psychic up that's not so cheap
Alakazam's always a good one. If not, then Espeon's probably your best bet. Personally, I have Slowking, but that's because I'm skillzorzed.
-Aerodactyl
Can Aerodactyl learn Fly? If not, getting to places is gunna be a bitch. But really, Fly's just wasting a move slot. Wing Attack/Rock Slide/Earthquake(if he learns it)/Crunch would be a good moveset.
-Jolteon
Love Jolteon. The fact that he has fighting, bug and electric moves is awesome, too bad his stats don't back the fighting/bug side of it up too well.
-Ledian. Yes, a Ledian. It's fast, and it looks awesome. Not sure what moves it'll have yet.
Personally, I've never used Ledian before, so have no advice. It'll be interesting to see what you do with it.

Ok, here's my party at the moment.
~Tyranitar (56) -- Crunch/Ice Beam/Flamethrower/Earthquake. Can you say "beast"?
~Crobat (50 currently) -- Sludge Bomb/Air Cutter/ Confuse Ray/Shadow Ball
~Aerodactyl (37 currently, stopped leveling to level up my Tyranitar) -- Ancientpower/Fly/Flamethrower/Agility (that's not final at all)
~Jolteon (58) -- Thunder/Shock Wave/Pin Missile/Agility
~Ledian (36, also stopped leveling temp.) -- Aerial Ace/Double Team/Focus Punch/Safeguard
And those are all great suggestions for psychic type, I'm well aware of my options. However, I can't get Slowking or Alakazam or Espeon because I have nothing to trade to at the moment. I need a second GBA and Ruby/Sapphire before I can really get the team I want.
Oh well, I can beat the 2nd-stage Elite Four now, with Mewtwo. Honestly, I didn't use it that much except against Bruno. I want to get to the point where I don't need Mewtwo though. It's gotten up to like 83, though, since I used it to evolve a lot of stuff to fill my Pokedex. Wish I had something else at 83 instead of the Mewtwo. Like an Umbreon. Hell, I want Umbreon period!!!!
Oh, and I've leveled a Kabutops up to like 44 (mostly because it doesnt even evolve till 40). Not sure if it's going in my party.
------------------------------------
EDIT: Decided to add explanations of why I'm making everything how I am
~Tyranitar -- It has all strong attack moves. It's a tank that's Rock and Dark type. Need I say more?
~Crobat -- The strongest poison move there is, a confusion move, and the strongest ghost move. This is my "pissing you off" Pokemon.
~Ledian -- It has Double Team and Safeguard mainly to back up its Focus Punch, due to the charge-up and flinching if hit. Honestly, I originally did this because of the Tyranitar my rival has, since fighting is good against dark (and rock). Not 100% necessary now, but I'll still use it. If that gets too annoying, I can always teach it Brick Break; decent strength (75) move.
~Jolteon -- It's fast like a freak, looks awesome, and has strong electric moves. Lorelei has lots of water Pokemon. Duh.
~Aerodactyl -- Because I need a Flier to get around, unfortunately. I didn't want to use a legendary, or a Pidgeot/Fearow/Dodrio/Farfetch'd. Don't know what I'm gonna do move-wise yet
~(Insert Psychic Pokemon here) -- Um, psychic rocks. Except against other psychics, dark, and steel. Again, duh. Maybe I'll do a Golduck, hahahaha.

A Shiny Meowth in Crystal.
and a Shiny Nosepass from Ruby.
I caught a Shiny Pinsir once. It wasn't very exuberant. Still a shiny pokémon though. I made a wild shiny spinarak faint near the start of my travels. Didn't realise it was a rarity at the time.

Surprised practically all of us have seen at least once, since its a 1 in 8192 chance every time a wild Pokemon appears that it'll be shiny.

Especially the people that claim to have caught a shiny in multiple games.
Ever think of trying the lottery, guys? Because you seem to be pillars of ridiculous luck.

You forget that wild Pokemon are annoying and show up practically every three steps in the grass. I had a shiny Scyther.
Wow, I never knew this many people still liked Pokemon.

And you gotta remember Dexide, it isnt that 1 in every 8192 WILL BE a shiny. Every single one has a 1/8192 chance of being shiny. That's an insanely small chance. Smaller than actually catching a Scyther in the Safari Zone (Near impossible. I've hardly ever even seen on in the Safari Zone)
I have a question. Anyone know what's different in Emerald compared to Ruby/Sapphire? Mainly in the whole Pokemon- exclusive-to-one-version thing. Dunno. Just been looking at those three to choose which one to buy once I eventually CAN buy one.

Safari Zone was one of the places I would go to everytime I played, I honestly caught over half of all my Pokemon from there.
Also about your question,
"Ruby focuses around Groudon (causes drought) and Team Magma (their goal is to increase landmass)
Sapphire focuses around Kyogre (causes floods) and Team Aqua (their goal is to increase the sea level)
Emerald focuses around Rayquaza, although you can capture both Groudon AND Kyogre in it. It is slightly harder than Ruby and Sapphire.
Teams Magma and Aqua both play a role, and you get to beat both of them." (Taken from Yahoo! Answers.)
EDIT: "Sapphire can't get seedot, latios, solrock unless trade,
Ruby can't get lotad, latias, lunasomething unless trades
Emerald has everything" (Also Taken from Yahoo! Answers.)

So basically Emerald is Ruby and Sapphire in one? Just longer and harder? No missing Pokemon? If so, I'll definitely get that instead of Ruby or Sapphire. Either way, thanks for the info!
Oh, and I catch lots of stuff in the Safari Zone too. However, I just ended up buying a Scyther from the Game Corner, since I have basically unlimited money. No cheat, just Vs Seeker the two ladies at Resort Gorgeous (north of Five Island) over and over with Amulet Coin equipped. They give 20,000 each. Either way, still no Tauros. Only seen him once ever (in this current game). He's the only Safari one that I haven't gotten.
Yeah definately get Emerald. You even have the chance of getting a Johto starter (though it's very hard)

I guess I was really lucky. I didn't know Scyther was that hard to get.

Pffft. Kangaskhan was bad enough, nevermind Scyther. I saw like 30 Kangaskhans before I managed to catch one, and Like I've said, I only ever saw like 3 Scythers. Meh.
And a note on the unlimited money + Game Corner. Great for the TMs; Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Iron Tail

How many of you have actually caught a legit shiny pokemon? Besides the Red Garados, of course.
I caught a shiny Poliwhirl while training outside the Silver Cave or whatever it's called in Gold. The one to the left of Indigo Plateau. Question: does it stay shiny if you evolve it?
BTW, I fealt like a nice guy and decided to give you a list of all Johto Pokemon you can get in this game (Emerald) you couldn't get in the previous games (Ruby and Sapphire).
Mareep
Aipom
Pineco
Shuckle
Tediursa
Houndoor
Stantler
Smeargle
Sudowoodo
Meowth
Horsea
Mew (You need another ticket, dunno why they make you pay with real life money to get Pokemon)
Lugia (Need some sort of Ticket IRL)
Ho-Oh (Same as above)
Cyndaquil (You need to complete your Honen-dex to get a chance to pick one of the Johto starters)
Totodile
Chikorita
Sunkern
Hoothoot
Spinarak
Snubull
Gligar
Ladyba
Milktank
Whooper

Thanks for that Lance. Not all of those are Johto, some are Kanto, but I get the point. I'm DEFINITELY getting Emerald.
So are there ANY Kanto Pokemon in R/S/E (besides the ones you listed)? I heard that they took a lot of them out.

Now I kind of want that game, I haven't played Pokemon in a long time, my GBAM is collecting dust... By the way, Lance, quick fix:
Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume/BELLOSSOM, not Blossum.
Also, in case Lance's list isn't enough help, here's where you can find each Pokemon in Ruby and Sapphire, also probably the same in Emerald. LINK! (http://www.angelfire.com/pokemon2/party_of_6/locations.html)

that link is broken. And I already found Pokedexes for all the Kanto/Johto/Hoenn Pokemon here (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/). I just wasn't sure which Kanto/Johto ones would be on Hoenn.
And about Bellossom... how does something as ugly as Gloom turn into cute little Bellossom? So odd. Kinda like Remoraid, a piranha practically, turning into Octillery, an octopus. What the hell?!

Wow. I've never caught a Shiny Pokemon before. (Except Red Garados.) But I wouldn't even notice them being shiny unless it did that sparkle like the Red Garados did.
I remember hearing something about a pink butterfree. But I don't even remember the rumor. I would LOVE to catch one. Butterfree is like my favorite bug pokemon!
and damn this thread for getting me addicted to pokemon again.

Yes. But on this site I have bookmarked, it shows what they look like when they are shiny, and some are not that different. Like I looked at Pikachu (Curious.) and saw that he was just a little darker. Where as others are more noticable. Such as being a completely different color.

And yeah, that is a nice site, Pelican.

RayQuaza is definitely cooler than Groudon and Krygore. (I know I spelt one of them wrong.) Giant green dragon that doesn't look cheesey. He rocks! Not hard to get either. Just needs some bicycle control and some patience. (I hate that damn tower. I didn't even know he was at the top. I gave up trying to get up there, then came back after awhile and got him.)
Dresden
02-11-2008, 2:32 AM
Yeah, Groudon and Kyogre don't even look that impressive. I take it they're the R/S/E version of the legendary birds and dogs?
Although no, you can only get one or the other. Maybe it's more parallel to the choice of Omanyte or Kabuto. Shrug.
Sarge51
02-11-2008, 2:34 AM
Well, in Emerald, you can get all three. But I said screw Red and Blue, I am going for green.
I think mine had Extreme Speed. I loved that move.
Dresden
02-11-2008, 2:37 AM
Yeah. I know I've already said this, but I'm definitely going for Emerald too. Wish I'd gone for Leaf Green instead of Fire Red too. Green's always a better colour.
And as for moves we love... I've always loved slash. Why? Who knows. It's just a normal type with high crit ratio.
I noticed while looking around serebii.net; they do a lot of new type-combos in R/S/E. Even just with the starters. Grass/Dark... Fire/Fight... Water/Ground. All sorts of odd combos. Should be exciting. And confusing as hell to try and defend with.
Sarge51
02-11-2008, 2:44 AM
Slash was that move that was always underestimated. Plus it sounds cool!
I went and got FireRed. and found out that LeafGreen had a better choice of Pokemon. I feel jipped. I just got my second badge on Diamond. Diamond sure does seem weird. I don't know if it's just that I've played too many Pokemon games or if this new generation just isn't as good. It seems they are making it feel cheesey. But I do love the fact that it has all the generations of Pokemon in the database. Mixing in old favorites like Sandslash, Pikachu, and Vileplume with new pokemon. I love playing with the original 150.
Dresden
02-11-2008, 2:47 AM
From looking at the full list (as of R/S/E) of Pokemon...
Original 150 are classic, obvious. And therefore, kind of boring, I'm finding at the moment. 98% of the Johto ones are pretty cool. From just looking at pictures/stats/names of the Hoenn ones, I'd say it's around 50/50 for coolness. So if the trend continues, that means probably about 75% of the 4th gen (diamond/pearl) ones are shit. Thinking of 150 had to have been hard enough. At 500 you've GOT to be running out of ideas. Quit while you're ahead, Nintendo.

I was pretty pissed when I came across a Shiny Koffing. I mean, I thought it was supposed to drop some phat loot or there was something special about it... so I killed it. And... uh... to say the least... I realize that it was not a smart choice. So, I wasted my one and only shiny encounter.
Nah, just fuckin' with ya. I never ever ever ever saw a shiny pokeyman in the game. Only the Gyarados. I just figured since everyone is bragging about their UBAR LUKY SHIANY ADVENATUARS I might as well pitch in a fakie.

You realize there is not only, like, one Mewtwo in the whole entire game ( I think ) and there is a 1 in 9000 chance to get one... ... ...
I want a fuckin' Ditto.
The good thing about Legendaries is when your right up to them you don't have to looking randomly for shiny Pokemon. The other good thing is, is that it's chance of being shiny changes each time you reset the game (as in, you can battle once, and if you reset it BEFORE defeating it, you have the chance of it being shiny again). That's how this one dude I know got a shiny Kyogre.
