View Full Version : Guitar Hero III: Wii or 360?

My brother just got a Wii for his birthday and now we need to decide which console to get this game for. Obviously the graphics will be better on 360, and we don't care much for online play unless there's a gross discrepancy in downloadable content. My main question is gameplay. I believe there's a difference that makes use of the Wiimote's accelerometer. We've both played it on a Wii but never on a 360. If anyone could explain the gameplay differences and if you think they'd be significant, that would be much appreciated. If there's a must-buy feature for one console or the other, let me know.
And yes I have googled this and all it came up with were people on other forums asking the same question but all they got in response were AOLisms.
Also if you have any Wii games to recommend that would be cool.

Last I heard which was before it's release, the Wiimote was suppose to do something when you miss notes... But I haven't heard nothing about it since it's release...
I'd say 360, just because of the overall community, features, and if you have Live you can get quite a few free songs.

Wii exclusive features
The Wii version of the game has several exclusive features, since a Wii Remote must be inserted into the guitar controller. The game utilizes the Wii Remote's wireless capabilities and accelerometer, as well as making use of the rumble feature and the internal speaker:[26] The internal speaker on the Wii Remote is used to emit an effect when incorrect notes are hit; and the Wii Remote's rumble feature is utilized when Star Power mode is activated. While the Wii version has online play utilizing game-specific friend codes, downloadable content was not available at launch, although it expected to be available in 2008.[27] The Wii and PS2 versions also use slightly different graphics and sounds from those on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, such as a different typeset, loading screen, and the Wii version featuring "miss" sounds more akin to Guitar Hero I and II.

I'd say get it for the Wii, but good luck trying to. I've had a second Wii guitar controller on order for two months now and they still don't know when it'll be in.

The difference is practically non existent, you can tip the guitar on Wii to... do something?
Other than that:
X360 version has DLC.
The Wii controller is a bit better, but the sound is only in Mono.
I'd go for the 360 one.

360 has downloadable content right now, a bigger online community, better graphics (I've played them both), and achievements (even if you're not into gamerscore, their extra challenges the Wii doesn't have)
But the Wii has different 'fuck-up' sounds, and an internal speaker.
Take your pic, I'd got for 360.
I have it for Wii.
I would trade for the 360 version in a heartbeat.
But that's only because of Live play, the Wii version does have online but my phone interrupts my Wii's wi-fi so the only reason I'd even care about Live is because my 360 uses a ethernet cable.
The Wii version(I have) only supports Mono sound, so Activison is sending a whole new game disc to me and the Stereo sound versions might already be in stores.
The controllers feel no different to me, the Wiimote is inside the guitar and runs off it's battery, but it also rumbles and makes sound which is cool.
As far DLC, most of it seems lame and overpriced so that's a non-issue.
In the end I'm getting Rock Band in a couple weeks so fuck GHIII.

Why the hell would they make a music video game with mono sound?

I think it activates Star Power mode, though I'm sure the other versions can do that with a button:indiff:
Even with the promise of DLC on the Wii, there's no guarantee that it'll happen as soon as we'd like, and we don't even have the Wii yet so I'm not sure how pricing works for downloads. All things considered, I'm leaning towards the Xbox version, unless someone can provide an excellent reason that makes the Wii version a must-have. So it rumbles and beeps, if that's really all it does I'll try to convince my brother to get it for 360 instead.

I have the Wii version, and I must say, the Vibration in the controller during Starpower really gets your adrenaline rushing.
EDIT: As far as suggestions go, if you haven't already, buy Super Mario Galaxy and Preorder Super Smash Bros Brawl

Does it send shivers up your spine the way STEREO SOUND would? When I played on the Wii I was too focused on hitting the notes to notice much vibration. Besides, wouldn't it throw you off a bit?
Galaxy and Smash Bros are the only games on our list. Thanks, but is there anything less obvious?

In the PS2 version I had, you could also tilt the controller to activate Star Power, so the Wii version isn't so different there. 360 version sounds like a better choice for the stereo sound for now.

Only the first shipment of the Wii version had mono. Mine has stereo.
And I highly recommend that you buy, if not at least rent the game "Zack and Wiki:Quest for Barbaros' Treasure" it's a lot more fun than you would think from the title. I wasn't even convinced to get it after watching gameplay videos, but I got it anyway, something I don't regret.

I'd get the 360 version, just because of the online features, even if you aren't going to use them immediately it's nice to know they are there, like DLC and more online players. As for games if you've never played it you have to get Resident Evil 4, it's the best game ever and it's even better with the Wii controls. Also maybe check out No More Heroes and Godfather (makes really good use of the Wii controls for combat and is a really big game, I'd say 20 hours to complete the main story).

Just out of interest how many people have it for the PS3?

I've got a Ps3 but I don't have Gh3 for it. The market place has around 1/2 of the downloadable content than the 360 does (but still better than nothing), and requires a USB Dongle to hang out of the front of the console for the wireless to work.

Don't have it, don't want it. My view may change once Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 come out though.
As for Guitar Hero for 360 or Wii, I would go with the Wii for the simple fact that the online is free, you don't have to have that bullshit Xbox Live crap. As for people who are arguing about graphics, when playing the game do you really do anything but watch the frets anyways?

On the second chord of Black Sunshine by White Zombie it shows a boob-shot of Judy Nails.
So yes, by the comparison of Guitar Hero 2/3 on the 360 I think that the second one looks ugly, despite only watching the fret board, these it is noticeable

Uh, Yeah. When I am concentrating, I don't really pay any attention to the graphics. Mainly just the board. But if I do look out in the back, I expect some good detail. Which, I am sure the Wii has better graphics than a PS2. So, if it's graphics, I think it's a tie. You'll have to choose on pure features.
I do agree, Xbox Live can be frustrating at times. Especially having paid for it.

Get it for the Xbox 360. I've played it on both and Guitar Hero 3 doesn't feel up to snuff on the Wii. Get it for the Xbox and you won't regret it, there is a better community and it's just a cleaner game for the xbox.

I say 360 most of the downloadable songs are pretty tight and the graphics are better. On Wikipedia it says that the Wii remote makes sounds like GH1 and GH2 when you miss strum. Ughh I hated that sound. XBOX for the win!!!!!

Whoa, totally forgot about this thread. Heh.
We ended up getting it for the 360, mostly because the Wii is at dad's and we're not over there very often. I have zero regrets about the purchase and I'm getting great use out of it.
Thanks for all the suggestions for Wii games.
