Long story short, I either need to get a new Xbox360 or get it repaired. I'm wondering some things.
If I get it repaired, (for those of you who had your xbox repaired) does everything stay the same (memory mostly) if they repair it? And B) How long would you say the norm for repairing would take?
Or if I get a new xbox, if I recovered my gamertag will I retain my gamerscore, xbox live money, downloaded content, and/or memory?
I'd like to know.

What is the problem with it? It may be a simple fix. I repair xbox 360's for a hobby so I have seen most problems.

If you get it repaired you dont send your hard-drive so you lose none of your memory. A normal repair usually has your 360 back to you within 3 weeks (and if it breaks twice they send you a free game or accessory).
And If you do recover your gamertag you keep all achievements, gamescore, microsoft points but none of your saved games and probably none of your downloadable content ethier.

It would be pretty stupid to buy a new one. Unless you're a rich and spoiled kid.

Wait, you don't get to keep your downloadable content that you bought?!

You do. You can re-download them.

Well, I have a car pack for Forza 2 with upgrades on those cars and everything saved. Will that all be lost even though I have the hard drive (if I had to get my xbox repaired).

Recovering gamertag doesn't lose anything of what you had. I've done it plenty of times from friends' houses.

All your saves and downloads are on your hard drive, so no, they will not be lost. If for any reason Microsoft want to wipe the hard drive when you get get back on live you can re-download any of the purchases you've made for free. This excludes movies as their rental.

I've got a 360 and it broke down. So I sent it in to get repaired and it took way to long to get repaired it took mine 3 weeks to get done. You dont lose anything when it gets fixed everything stays the same. The only thing bad about getting it repaired like that is the long wait it was ridiculous. So if you know any of your friends who are good at repairing electronics have them do it. Also you keep your gamerscore when you recover your gamertag.

Just send your 360 to Microsoft for the repairs, but keep your hard drive. Thats so if they send you another one, they dont send you a blank new one, plus you get to keep all your saves.

You keep your GS and such. You just won't have saved content and game saves that was on your HDD. BUT, you keep your MS Points, and if you downloaded something, you can download it again for free. Thanks MS for being smart there. But if only we had saved games that were transferable.

Saved games are transferable, just copy them to a Memory Card. You'll probebly only fit around 5 games on a single one though, so choose your best five.

Sure. But that's the problem. If something were to happen to your HDD all you would have as a backup for all those games is on a Memory Unit. and they don't hold much at all. Especially if you add in the games with over a couple of MB of save space.

Yeah, but atleast you would have a backup. For example, if my HDD imploded right now, i'd lose everything. But it's not going to. I think.

Hm, Now I know who added me on Live. Your avatar is the same as your Gamer Picture. At least I think so. I didn't look so hard.
Anyway! I'd definitely use a MU if it had at least 250MB on it. Then my console would just have media and DLC. and you could take it anywhere to play. I hate not having my stats on my friend's box.

Yeah, my avatar is my GamerPicture, and i'm pretty sure I added you.
I've just had a brainwave on the subject, too.
What microsoft should do is give us, for example, a 1 gigabite space on Live, where we can upload things such as saves and things. Then, when you go to a mate's house, you can log in to your "Space" on live and download you're saves to his unit. I wouldn't mind paying around 200MS Points for this function, so they could also make some money.

That's not a bad idea. But 1GIG for the whole Xbox Live community could add up to maybe more than they could handle.

Well, i suppose, but if they did make it so that you had to pay 200MS points per year, then not everyone would get one, for example, if you never go around to a mates house to play on his 360 and feel the need to take your saves with you, then there is no need for you to buy one.

That's true. It would be very useful. Especially if your HDD does go haywire and you have to buy a new one. It could help in many situations. and I wouldn't mind the 200MS to do it, either, that's just a little over $2.50, isn't it?

Wait, don't you have to take apart Xbox's to get out the hard drive, and if thats the case, wouldn't you break the warranty seal?

No, It's right on the top. When you buy it it is all seperate anyway.
You may be thinking of the xbox, not the 360. If that's the case then the hard drive was inside that one.

Yeah, something like that.
And the HDD on the 360 is detachable, you push a little button in and then slide it backwards or something like that.
