Hack 'n' Slash games have to be my all time favourite Genre. Sometimes refered to as 'Button Mashing' games, they are simplistic and fun all the same.

Personally I love them and have been known to play them for hours on end, however the number of games that fit into this genre are few and far between. After completing a H&S game I never feel compelled to go back and play it again, I'd rather move onto a new game where I can master the combos there. Just don't get them confused with straight Beat 'em ups. So I'm here seeking recommendations of good Hack 'n' Slash games for Ps3, 360, Wii, Retro, PSP or PC.

Examples of Hack 'n' Slash / Games I already own
Assassins Creed
Heavenly Sword (Love it)
Ninja Gaiden: Sigma
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Devil May Cry Series
God of War Series
Golden Axe Series
Streets of Rage Series

I've checked out the Wikipedia article on H&S Games to find a list of arcade games and games for dead consoles, along with the epic Battle Raper (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ee/Brlogo.jpg).

ST did a review of battle raper 2 http://www.somethingawful.com/d/hentai-game-reviews/battle-raper-2.php
I didn't button mash at all in Assassin Creed.

It isn't button mashing, but the battles we're very similar to Prince of Perisa

I always really liked the LotR Return of the King for gamecube. You could play it on your wii, or just find it for ps2 or 360?

Spartan: Total Warrior for the GC/BB/PS2 was pretty good.
It was defiantly ripping off God of War, but now I bet anyone could find a good price for it.
Also 'No More Heroes' for the Wii is supposed to be an excellent hack n' slash.

Any Dynasty Warriors game is a definate buy for hack 'n' slash fans. Dynasty warriors is released later this month or soon after I think.

I've heard good stuff about No More Heroes, and I think that I'll pick it up whenever it's out, any idea when that is exactly?

Uk, so it comes out the same day Lost does on 360. Thanks!

Can anyone think of any retro side-scrolling H&S games? Like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe or The Punisher?

Well there's Final Fight, a game that came with an Atari classics collection thing my brother got for the PS2 a couple years ago. As I remember, it was fun as hell. One of those mindless, button smashers you never get tired of. A lot like Double Dragon (also a classic) or Streets of Rage

Drakengard and the sequel are great games for the PS2. You can upgrade your weapons, and call monsters to help and such. It was awesome and a great story, too.

I love the Dynasty Warriors series.

I recently picked up Warriors Orochi for PS2, which is basically a hybrid game of DW and SW (Samurai Warriors). There's roughly 80 different characters to use, and similarities within them are actually relatively infrequent. I mean, SSB has such blatant clones (Luigi, Mario, Dr. Mario, etc.), and it only has a fraction of the playable characters.

The only con is the amount of characters is a bit overwhelming and the plot can get a bit fuzzy if you don't already have a general knowledge of the preceding games. The gameplay does get somewhat repetitive eventually, but killing thousands of enemies is still pretty satisfying. It's pretty rad, I suggest checking it out if you like the genre.

DW6 looks good; wish I had a PS3 for it.

I really think H&S games are extremely overrated. They have no freedom, they have no real interaction with people (other than merchants and quest givers and stuff) - you just run around and kill things. I'm not saying that I don't like hack & slash games - hell, I LOVED Diablo and Diablo II back in the day - I'm just trying to say that a lot of RPGs are much better.
