View Full Version : It's time for the perculator

Ok, I thought there was a distinct lack of techno threads. Meaning, I couldn't find any really. And I love techno.

Who do I listen to?
I stick mainly to house music, as my ex boyfriend works in a club that plays house and that's what I've been exposed to the most.

My favorites include:
*Green Velvet(aka Cajmere) -who is indeed the guy who did "it's time for the perculator". It's really cool seeing him live, let me tell you.
*Colette -classically trained opera singer who sings over what she spins. She is AWESOME.
*Kaskade -he's mormon. That's irrelevant but I find it cool that he is married and drug free in an industry that promotes the opposite.
*Daft Punk -Alive2007 is amazing
*Chuck Love
*LTJ Bukem
*James Amato
*Jonn Hawley (he's local I believe)
*Ferry Corsten
*Mark Farina
*DJ Heather

So I guess what I'd like out of this thread is maybe some more recommendations from you techno listeners and maybe some discussion on techno genres or something along those lines.

I'd recommend checking out Roni Size, Basement Jaxx, and DJ Keoki. You might also consider checking the other electronic thread, a lot of the bands I put on that list would fall into the techno category, but I don't see the sense in making two long identical lists.

I actually got to meet Keoki and I am dumb for forgetting him from the list. He's one drugged up, weird ass mofucker.

I on the other hand prefer to hit the Trance side of techno more than house. I like House, don't get me wrong, but I much prefer Trance, and I also listen to a lot of Eurodance.

Trance:
Aphex Twin (http://www.rephlex.com/)
Tiësto (http://www.myspace.com/tiesto)
BT (http://www.btmusic.com/) (The best breakbeat. PERIOD)
Darude (http://www.myspace.com/darude)
Cosmic Gate (http://www.myspace.com/cosmicgate)
Hallucinogen (http://www.myspace.com/hallucinogen151) (Fucking epic)
Paul Van Dyk (http://www.myspace.com/paulvandyk) (HOW COULD I FORGET??!?!?)

Misc. Electronica:
Alice DeeJay (http://www.myspace.com/alicedeejay) (Best know for "Better Off Alone", but a lot of their stuff is better)
Basshunter (http://www.myspace.com/basshunterdance) (Nerd fantasy, eurodance)
Eiffel 65 (Eurodaaaance)
Cascada (http://www.myspace.com/cascada) (^ ^ ^)
Astral Projection (http://www.myspace.com/astralprojectionavilior) (I guess technically they're trance, but eh)
Armin Van Buuren (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=41447782) (DEFINITELY one of my favorites)
George Acosta (http://www.myspace.com/georgeacosta) (Another amazing one, somewhat similar to Van Buuren)
Ferry Corsten (http://www.myspace.com/ferrycorsten) (Houuuse)

I haven't been into techno and trance long, maybe a couple years now, but I love it.

Ooooh BT is another one I left off my list. I saw Crystal Method one year (fucking excellent show btw) and BT opened. It was sweeet!

Also, I am really retarded... I hang out with this guy once or twice a week: Codebreakers (http://www.myspace.com/codebreaker)

Tempest, saying Aphex Twin is trance is like saying Judy Garland is black metal.

You should check out an Australian duo called Sonic Animation (www.sonicanimation.com.au). They split up in 2006, but they have many discs of fucking brilliant dance/general electronica to sink your teeth into. Best tracks are probably "I'm Afraid I Think I'm Human", "Theophilus Thistler" and "E-Ville" (you've probably heard the last one at some point).

I dig the sonic animation stuffs. It reminds me of prodigy, kind of, whom I like a lot as well.

Meh, I consider Aphex more Happy Hardcore, which I sort of lump in with trance. Mostly because I don't care for the millions of different designations of techno music.

Have you heard much of The Prodigy's newer stuff? It's a metric fuckton better imo. The overall feel and tone is way beefier and less pseudo-industrial.

Listen to DJ Brisk or Scott Brown (who are both Happy Hardcore DJs) and then listen to any Aphex Twin song. Once again, apples and oranges.

Seeing as AFX material is so varied I just label it "Electronic" and move on with my life. I do the same with a lot of similar artists, actually :\

Datach'i and Locust Toybox

Datatch'i is very good for freaking the shit out of stoned kids, then relaxing them with Locust Toybox.

Is the newest CD green-ish with some back and white stuff on it? I would look that up but I gotta get to class soon. If that is the case then I have the CD but haven't really listened to it yet. I forgot it was given to me and just re-discovered it the other day.

I was thinking of this CD:

If you don't have it, fucking get it. It's seriously tops.

I will look into it.

And for the record, this is the one I was referring to:

(Music for the Jilted Generation)

That's not the newest Prodigy album, Music for the Jilted Generation came out before Fat of the Land if I'm not mistaken. And Exetra I had no idea they even had a new album out, I'll definitely have to go and pick it up.

Admittedly, it came out in 2004 so its not actually "new" per se. Though maybe it seems new to you because you're old and stuff >_>

Yeah, I was thinking of a different CD that I got at the same time. The green and black and white CD I was thinking was Prodigy was actually Progression Sessions by LTJ Bukem Featuring MC Conrad and DRS.

The only one I don't think was mentioned was PlayRadioPlay!
They are a very positive band and don't complicate things and that's how I like my techno in the morning.

This is kind of an obvious one, but do you listen to The Chemical Brothers? I've been a fan of them since 1996. I also forgot to mention Orbital, The Orb and Underworld.
