View Full Version : Thinking of selling my Wii, buying a threesixtii

I've got the money to just buy a 360, but I've got now, in my room, a massive tangle of wires: PS2, MegaDrive, Wii, PSP and a TV. Bought all of em myself. I just don't want to add to that without selling one of them first.
So, after Smash Brothers, is there anything to really look forward to on the Wii? I've allways said the 360 was the best thing to have right now and I want to play games like Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Devil May Cry 4, Orange Box, Bioshock n all that shite.
I know it's the wrong time of the year to ask, but it's getting pretty annoying missing out on all the big games.

I'd say yes, purely for the entertainment that Live can provide. My sister has a Wii, and while it is the funnest of the "Next Gen" Consoles, only in short bursts.

I would sell the PS2, actually. You wouldn't get as much money, but unless you're a big PS2 fanatic and enjoy playing the games over again, there's really nothing to look forward to. The Wii has some pretty fun games, and one I can think of is Mario Kart Wii.
Ya the 360 has awesome games, but the Wii definatley has potential.

If I were you, I wouldn't sell my Wii. But that's probably because I don't have it myself and it looks fun. If you can't buy the 360 without selling the Wii, go for the 360. Sell the PS2

It's mostly cos I don't want to be that guy who has all the consoles stacked ontop of each other in his room :ahe:
And I'm still buying PS2 games. It's like the best console ever.

Just noticed you've got a megadrive, try selling that to a classic's store if you dont use it.

I'd say keep the Wii, to be honest, 360 has a great back catalogue but it's the same thing as you mentioned for the Wii, apart from GTA4, I haven't seen that many super amazing games coming out for it, there are maybe 4 or 5. I'd say sell your PSP, unless you use it all the time then it's not really that good, the games coming out and even the ones out aren't all that amazing. Another way to reduce the wire-tangle is to pack away your Megadrive for a bit, I presume you won't play it as much as your 360, Wii and PS2. The final thing is, get some food bag ties and a multi-scart adaptor, use the food bag ties to tie up all your plug leads, this'll make them look a lot less messy. Then connect all your scart leads into the multi-scart, and fold up the big lenghts of wire, and tie 'em off. There your big tangle of wires is fixed.
And as for some Wii games, Mario Kart (with online you'll be playing it for months), No More Heroes (I remember you mentioning it in another thread and it's gotten amazing reviews, looks a lot of fun), Okami (if you never played it on PS2 then get it this time around, I always though a game with a paintbrush as a 'weapon' would be great with motion controls), and even Medal of Honor Heroes 2 which comes out on Friday (meant to have the best FPS controls on Wii plus 32 player online multiplayer, what's not to love.) So there's at least 4 games, 2 of which are out in the next month.
EDIT: Just remembered another way to save space on wires, spend some money and go wireless, ok for Megadrive you obviously can't but if you have PS2 controllers tangling up your room then get wireless ones, there's even a wireless Wii nunchuck coming out.

Hmm :davethink:
Can't sell the MegaDrive, as the sound's a bit fucked. By which I mean BBBBBBBBBXZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZVVVVVVVVVVRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRNUTHAFUCKINRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRARARARAAARRR
I'm not just having all the consoles, but tieing up the wires. Rumours would spread that I'm "organised" and next thing ya know, I'm a 40 yr old virgin who collects rare action figures and thinks he's a mage.
I'll probably sell my PSP in about a year or so. I know it doesn't have ALOT of games, but there are some great ones, and it's portable, and it's an mp3 player.
I do like the sound of some of those games though.
Should I be taking game advice from a guy named Pokemon_Master? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
ACTUALLY, it's worth mentioning that 3 out of 4 of the Wii games mentioned are sequels while all the 360 games mentioned so far've been original franchises. JUS SAYIN.
I would actually say sell some of the PS2 (or any console) games that you don't want to GameStop. You get store credit, and that can stack up to help you buy a 360. Also you get a better deal with store credit than selling on Ebay or anything.

Well, maybe if you have a brother or sister you can drop your Wii off at them, or hide it so noone knows you're that guy.
But yeah, Xbox 360 > Wii

Money's not the problem, I just don't want it all at once.
OH WAIT- Thinking about it: Once you buy an XBox Live account, do you not have to pay anything extra to play the games online through that? I mean- I know you can buy shit on it, but I'm just checking if you have to pay to play stuff online like with PC games.
Well, maybe if you have a brother or sister you can drop your Wii off at them, or hide it so noone knows you're [I]that guy.

You have to pay a monthly subscription fee to use XBL.
I'd say keep the Wii mainly for the Virtual Console, but I've been raised to love Nintendo so...
For console games, there isn't really a lot of upcoming games besides Smash and Mario Kart that are certain must-buys, and play Super Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes if you haven't already.

For the price of a new Xbox 360 game you can play online for a whole year. That includes free demos, sometimes free arcade games or game content,...
It's worth it imo
Sell your PSP and your TV. When you buy a 360, you can be like everyone else, stare at it in awe while it's still in the box.
The 360 is pretty good, but I wouldn't suggest selling the Wii as there are some good releases on the way. By the way, you can get Orange Box and Bioshock for the PC if you are still hesitant about buying a 360.

You can buy your amount of XboxLive time, monthly or annually I think. And no service charges per game, buy live and that's it.
I have a "Wii60".
Got my 360 at Christmas, but I have had my Wii since launch.
I haven't really played my "Wii Games"(used all the time for GC and VC) for months, and even considered myself selling my Wii. But after getting Super Mario Galaxy, I'd choose my Wii over my 360.
I my 360 but if you take away Live all the games wouldn't be all that interesting once you beat them. Live prices are not bad and it's a good service that beats the shit out of NWFC. But you get fun from Xbox from funny Live moments and competitive gaming, you get fun from Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, Mario Kart, and SSB by just having fun. All those games I've mentioned are completely different from each other(not from themselves though) while 360 pretty much only offers shooting games.
If you really just don't like your Wii then sell it, but if you just don't see any interesting games in the future I say to wait until the next E3 for Nintendo's announcements to make your decisions.

I wouldn't sell the Wii. the way i see it oyu need to have 2 of the current gen consoles at the moment, and one of them is definitely the Wii. As for whether you want a PS3 or 360 that's personal choice, there really isn't much of a difference at the moment so I chose PS3 because my PS2 was knackered.
MistyTehMoose

You can never have enough consoles.
Combined with the bf, we have:
2 PS2s
1 NES
1 SNES
1 N64
1 Gamecube
1 Wii
1 Xbox 360
2 PCs
Its awesome. We'll never buy a PS3, for they are for tools. But seriously, there's no good games on it that I can't buy on another console. Also, no ability to play PS2 games. That sucks.
Hats of!
02-06-2008, 7:32 AM
Wii has some games up it's sleeves, Brawl is one, but also Mariokart. And belive me, both of them will rock the very foundations of this earth.
HappyPalooza
02-06-2008, 1:39 PM
Also, no ability to play PS2 games. That sucks.
Only the 40GB version :wail:.
Anyways, this is a tough call. Wii doesn't have many games, but I'm sure that if you wait a year, there'll be an explosion of them. Currently, the 360 has many good games, but the best ones for it are also on the PC. Plus, there isn't much to look forward to for it this year in my opinion. And of course, the Xbox Live fees, but they're not so expensive.
In short, I'd like to say the Wii, since it has great potential, but the 360 is just a better choice for the time being.

I personally don't recommend selling your Wii if you have enough money. I just, instead, recommend taking the time to organize the wires in your room. Get a few outlet expansions, organize the wires, get special bands to keep the wires in place, possibly buy a new entertainment shelf so you can store your library of games (make it all organized) and then have your consoles nicely somewhere else. It is rewarding to have tons of consoles, trust me.
As for the Wii, it is one of those consoles you want to keep for friends and family who visit (if you live alone) or just anyone. You don't need any gaming skill, and for people who are new to gaming, they don't want to learn how to press buttons on a controller. They'd much rather have some fun with their gaming that us regular-console gamers feel regularly.
And with all the advancements made in understanding the Wii by that Asian kid, it is only going to get better.
I'd keep the Wii. And everything for that matter. I'd recommend investing in better organization.

I wouldn't normally say this. But don't sell your Wii for a 360. It's awkward and a new gaming style, though most games are somewhat childish, I like it. Much better than the 360 Console only wise.

I'm thinking of doing this too, I'm in a similar situation. I don't see the point in selling my PS2, when I play it more than my Wii and would only get about fifty bucks for it, whereas I could probably get about 400 for my Wii. It's a good system, but the games don't really interest me and the controller is a gimmick in most games.

ATM there are no really good games for Wii, except maybe Zelda, but I personally would have bought a Wii just for BRAWL!! ;). Anyway, the full potential of the Wiimote has not yet been explored, and no game has yet incorporated swinging madly and button bashing. Games on the 360 at present are definitely better, but apart from storyline, they cannot evolve. The time of the Wii is just beginning!!
(I don't actually work for Nintendo)
Well Brawl and Mario Kart are definately two upcoming games I'm looking forward to that will keep me entertained with my Wii for years to come. There's also going to be a new Animal Crossing installment, and a few other games.
However, everyone has different tastes in video games. So you really have to base your decision on what you like.
Racing, Sports, Fighting = PS3
Shooter, Action, Adventure = Xbox360
Platform, Minigames (Ugh), Party = Wii
Well... I made that list very loosely. But I think it pretty much sums each console's strong points and main genres. However, I am a fan of most Fighting, Shooting, Action, Adventure and Platformer games, yet I have a Wii. But I guess that's because nothing beats Zelda, Kirby, Mario, Metroid, Animal Crossing, WarioWare and Smash Bros.
fionnrokz
02-10-2008, 10:45 AM
:O yay Animal Crossing!!!
Well the Xbox 360 has Halo 3.... and as over-rated as that is it's still a good game.
But then again the Wii has all the best games : Metroid , Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Wario Ware, Animal Crossing and loads more to come....
I'd say keep the Wii. Buy a 360 if you really think you want it.

Yeah I think I'd agree with that. Even though it's a bit like- Not exactly right I still agree. I think I just made my decision based on discovering this:
If I sold my Wii on it's own and bought a 360 arcade thing with 2 games, 2 controllers, one of which is wireless, I'd make a profit :indiff:
It "does not include hard drive" though. Should I avoid that? A hard drive sounds like something I should get with it.
Oh and I don't give a shit about Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Warioware, Mario Party or Mario Kart. I bought the Wii in February last year cos I thought there'd be some funky lightgun action and I expected Zelda to be better than it was. Also, Mario Galaxy was top. And it was the cheapest one. But now that I'm making mega£££s I don't have to settle for the PS2 and PSP ports or the EVEN MORE Brain Training and Wii Play. Also, again, all the games you mentioned are sequels from franchises that're decades old.
WillJ.

A hard drive is a definate buy or you'll be storing everything on memory cards which fill up pretty quickly. Its best to get the hard drive in a package because it's quite expensive by itself.

After playing it I can safely say get Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii! Or at least rent it, the online is up to 360 standard, and you can have 32 players which is more than any 360 has at the moment. Plus since there is no headset, (you can send little voice commands like move up and cover me though) you don't have to listen to whiny American 10 year old idiots, who seem to buy FPS's just to annoy everyone online.

This one's got 32-player online, and probably looks a whole lot better.
And Wii games have Freind codes, which everybody hates.
P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
02-10-2008, 12:07 PM
Yeah but Frontlines isn't out yet, and MOH doesn't have friend codes, you just go into a lobby like every other FPS game, select a game you want to join and that's it.
Gudizere
02-10-2008, 12:40 PM
32 player on a console is too much in my eyes. I think the limit should be set at 16 for a FPS, because even the 18 player on CoD4 will always be atleast a tiny bit laggy and have atleast one jackass in the room.
And yes, Smelly, get a Hard Drive. Its a must buy, seen as over Xbox Live, gamemakers can release "Updates" which you download to your Hard Drive and then make the changes to your game. Without a Hard Drive, you will be downloading these every time you want to play (As a friend of mine had too) or if the update gets too big, not at all online. You can pick up a 20Gig HDD for around £50 anyway, so it's not that expensive.
BilkEmDanno
02-10-2008, 2:16 PM
Hard Drive is even something I have, and I don't even have Live. You must get a hard drive if nothing else.
But, eh, read my post again. I think my suggestion is probably the best advice for you.

I have a wii and I must say, I am rather sad...the PS3 and the 360 get all the fun, killing, shooting, stabbing, running? games and the wii gets...big brain academy, wii sports and other anonymous shit. The best game on the wii has Mario in it and to be honest, I'm not a fan of his "genre". Zelda: Twilight Princess and Guitar Hero 3 are the only games that suit me at the moment but, if there are people like me out there, there is brawl to look forward to and this other game called "no more heroes". It sounds awesome because you save by sending the main character to do a shit!
I think a 360 was a good choice. God of War and Halo 3 seem like great games. I guess it's just that I'm a Nintendo fan-boy at heart. I enjoy Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc.
But since Smelly ain't a fan of them, I guess buying a Wii really wasn't the way to go.

Wii got old pretty fast for me, but my 360 is a solid console. I don't have Live, and I sure ain't getting it, (Banned console off eBay D:) but I think a console should be for YOU and your FRIENDS to play not YOU and PLAYER98327410 and his friends from TEH INTERNETS. That said, both the Wii and the 360 have strong points. Lets put it this way.
The Wii is a Lotus Elan. Small, Ugly, and Stupid, it's still fun to cruise around in, especially with your friends.
The 360 is a Dodge Viper. Powerful, Sleek, 'Spensive, but it sure does mess up a lot.
If you like having fun, keep your Wii. If you like pwning noobs n' shit, get a 360.

I allways hear this thing about how the Wii is so great for multiplayer. That might be a solid argument if I had any freinds that like playing Sonic And Mario At The Olympic Games or WatioWare. Except I don't, most of my mates've got a 360 and play mainstream shit like PES or Halo 3. One guy's little sister has a Wii.
Infact, the only people I know with a Wii are a few guys on the games course who have a Wii and a 360 and a PS3. I wouldn't be playing any multiplayer with them because they're total nerds. I had a feeling I'd have trouble getting this point across on a forum.

I never knew you lived in Manchester Smelly, I always thought you live somewhere else in Europe. So I guess you've gone for the 360, what games are you going to get initially? I definitely suggest, Dead Rising (which you already said you wanted) because it's probably the best single player game on 360, and COD4 for the multiplayer. I'd search around for more games though, because you don't want to end up getting a load of online FPS's, I never get why people do that, they are nearly all the same. Maybe check Gears of War if you think that's your kind of thing. The Club is a game that looks good, it's not out yet but it's a sort of point based 3rd person shooter by the people who make the Project Gotham Racing games.
I_Smell
02-11-2008, 3:49 PM
Lost Planet, Orange Box, DMC4, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, Burnout Paradise, Bioshock, Alien Hominid HD, Castle Crashers, Geometry Wars.
The Club looks terrible. I mean- I don't how it'll turn out, but it's an unoriginal concept with a pretty stereotypical style of play and really outdated and uninspired graphics. JUS SAYIN.

If you have a gaming PC I see no need to get 360, especially since console FPS games are all substandard, which is what the 360 is known for. If you haven't got a gaming PC then I guess I would get a 360, but still I really hate using a crappy controller for shooting.

I'll check out Oblivion, but I honestly can't see myself liking it. It's the type of game I'd never pick up.
Also, gaming PCs are dumb. They cost a billion million dollars, you can't play offline multiplayer, the games have like a hundred buttons in completely random places (Keyboards for games? Whos idea was that?) and you have to update it every few months to accomodate whatever new shit come out.

Yep, TF2 particularly is awful on 360. At any given time on the PC version, there are about 20 or so suitable servers. On the 360 version you'd be lucky to get 20 people. Does the 360 version even get the updates?

Why does thinking a console which has nearly 2000 games, many of which are excellent, including the GTA, MGS, Gran Turismo, Tekken, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil series, is worth keeping make me a "psyco"?
Selling the PS2 is a terrible idea. EBgames have them for less than AU$100 preowned, and you wouldn't get anywhere near that amount selling it to them. For the amount of entertainment the PS2 still provides, selling it for such a low price would be idiotic.

Yeah, but the PS3 games are missing out. Such as the downloadable content for GTA IV that has been confirmed Only for the 360. And, sticking with GTA IV, the fact it was pushed back from October because the PS3 version wasn't ready.

Gudizere the downloadable content probably won't even be that good, plus didn't they say PS3 would have it too just different stuff? And your second "point" isn't really a point at all. I would actually do what Audioslave says, the prices wouldn't be to different, selling your ps2 would probably give you the difference between the 360 and PS3 anyway, the only problem would be actually finding a 60gb PS3 since they've been discontinued.

I have an 80GB and it was cheaper than the 60GB upon its original release (Got 80GB for $500). They also plan on cutting down on the hardware or something that they're using to make the two third generation versions even cheaper (probably $400 and $300). Never heard of a 30GB, though.

Well Xbox 360 is still better than any other console out there. Amazing game graphics, wide range of gameplay genres and the best bit, Xbox Live. Downloadable demos and videos, account customization, friend messaging and voice & video chat. All I'm saying is, the PS2 (and PS3) will never amount to what you can do on an Xbox 360, end of.

Ha ha good one iGavin, wide range of gameplay genres? Yeah if shooters and racing count as wide. But I'd say PS3 and 360 have about the same amount of features. And that's one of the reasons I enjoy the Wii, it's a games console. I enjoy having a games console and not something that tries to be, basically, a computer. I can do the internet, watch videos, speak to my friends with my PC i don't need a console for that.

You seem to be forgetting that wasn't the only reason for delay. The lack of storage on a 360 disk was a contributing factor too. The only reason the 360 has some exclusive content is because microsoft handed them a hefty bag of cash.

Yes Xbox live has great features , but they come at a price. And for the final remark , that is absolute nonsense. There is nothing a 360 can do which the PS3 can't , and any of the features you listed can be easily added through regular updates.
Most of the things you listed can already be done through the playstation store , and the PS3 will make them more advanced when home comes out.

I thought about buying a PS3. There's just not alot of PS3 games I want. Also- Aren't the games more expensive cos they're on Blu-Ray?
Most PS3s now don't even play PS2 games either.
I think we're all ignoring iGavin. I gave up on him when he said the 360's got "amazing game graphics". Also what he's saying about the PS2's total shit aswell.
Also, don't let this thread fall into one of those stupid arguments about PS3 GOT BLU-RAY MASSIVE STORAGE 360 CANT HANDLE THAT SHIT because GrandTheft Auto's on both of them and I'm betting they'll look and play exactly the same. It was delayed because they gave a bloody stupid release date for it.

PS3 games cost the same as 360, to answer your question. And yes, the games do look the same on both consoles.

That's a lie. PS3 looks infinitely better. To put it in perspective, my PS3 looked better on a normal TV than the 360 looked on a hi-def plasma screen.
And to all those bitching about the 360 games being better; bullshit. All the hyped games for the 360 that were supposedly the reason for buying it, turned out to be a giant "meh." Bioshock? Not that great. Assassins Creed? Too fucking repetitive. Halo 3? Wohoo. That was fun.
I have a PS3 and couldn't be happier.I actually lied twice; I have a 40GB PS3, and that costs the same as a 360. Unfortunately, it doesn't have PS2 compatibility. PS3 made a statement that summed up to about "Oops." It's a shame, but I'm not shedding any tears.

Sell the PS2, buy a PS3. Problem solved.
Why?
A 60gig PS3 is the same price as an XBox 360.
Not when it first came out it wasn't. The thing is, the Xbox has maintained its price quite well since its release, while the PS3 has almost halved. Why? Because it's overpriced. Blu ray will be gone and forgotten about. All the good titles on the PS3, you can buy on the 360 or the PC.
I disagree.
I think that eventually the PS3 will attract more game developers and consequently a larger fan base, because of its superior hardware.

Because it took such a long time to get off the ground, most people have already settled with another console. It's got a reputation for being bloaty and overpriced now.

I can get a 360 for $300(AUD) and the PS3 costs $500. :fmita: Completely not worth it. Especially with no backwards compatibility, which is pretty much the only reason I'd buy a PS3. Plus the whole Blu-Ray thing is ridiculous. If I wanted a HD state of the art home entertainment system I would go out and buy one, but I don't, I want to play games, which there are none of. I'm more likely to buy a super duper gaming computer.
If I were you Smelly, I wouldn't have sold your Wii. I would've just bought a 360 as well. The only thing that would be really annoying with two consoles is the amount of money you'd spend on games.
I wish I had money.

Ah, I don't know. I hate the PS3. But it has some nice exclusives. Like Heavenly Sword and MGS4.

Technically superior, yes. Used to it's potential? Almost never. The cell processor it uses is a bitch to code for, so a lot of companies are just writing code for the 360 and converting it. That means that the PS3 version cannot be technically better than the 360 one.

Ha, have you not heard about HD-DVD, Warner Bros has stopped HD-DVD and lots of other picture companies are thinking of doing the same.

I think there's a possibility both will fail. In Australia, at least, not that many people have HDTVs, and there is so much confusion about standards that most people seem to think regular dvds are HD. They'll inevitably become used for data, but I'm not sure they'll take off for movies.

Yeah, I don't know anyone who's ever bought a Blu-Ray movie. I think pretty much every company's stopped making HD DVD now, but truth is: The difference in price isn't worth the difference in quality for HD or Blu-Ray. DVDs are mainstream now and they'll still be mainstream in 2 or 3 years if you ask me.
And about the PS3 "attracting game developers"; Developers want games that're easy to make and easy to sell. PS3 isn't either of those.

I didn't even mention HD DVD. Like opn4bzns and i_smell said, neither are going to take off for a few years because of the costs. I doubt Blu Ray will go anywhere.

Ha Im like the only person with a 360 and no harddrive, Might get one later but atm I'm not really downloading extra content. Even without the harddrive the 360 is the best consel(I cant believe I forgot how to spell it)
Best game I've played so far is Saints Row. Xbox Live is handy. If you have a headset you can scream at people to get out of thier mothers basements and eat those peanut butter sculptures. Highly Satisfying.
