They edited it to make sure it's rated Mature, instead of Adults Only. My question is: Let's say if there wasn't any contraversy atall on this, would you have bought the game? I won't be buying it anyway.

So the original was too gory and they edited it so it could hit the shelves? Also no I wont be buying it.

Really gay that they did that. I'm not going to buy.

it's a piece of crap game anyway, you just do the same thing over and over all the game :)

But you guys will rent it, correct/

Them editing out the stuff that made it AO makes me not buy it now.
That sucks. I was excited about bashing faces in with my Wii-mote, but if it's toned down it kinda sucks away the appeal of it as the first edgy Wii title.

Eh, but Nintendo wouldn't produce it if it was AO. Of course there's always the "Rob's market" dealing with everything Rob.

I'll either rent it or wait for a friend to buy it, depending on the reviews it gets.
The sad thing is people will probably concentrate on what has been cut out of the game and not what was included in it.

What's worse than editing a game?
Editing a crappy game.... seriously, all this game had was its intense gore. Now they have gone and have taken the gimmick away

Yeah I'm disappointed with the toning down. I wasn't going to buy in the first place, but I definitely won't even really consider it now.
Either they tone it down and make at least some of their production investment back or scrap the project altogether.
One of those choices is a very shit business move.

Far is right. They only toned it down so their investment wasn't wasted. It'll still be an awesome game, sex and over-the-top gore, or not.

Guys I'm pretty sure they didn't just take out all the gore :indiff:
In fact, I'd buy it if they did because that'd be pretty funny.

To an extent, I agree with you. Manhunt wasn't intended to be a professional, beautifully-crafted, good-plot kind of game. You buy it because you want to kill people with over-the-top violence and see some nudity :P. Toning it down reduces the number of gamers who are in that niche.
With that said, they'd probably lose more money by keeping it AO, so financially, it was the better (and probably the only) choice.

They wouldn't lose money, they wouldn't get any money. Nintendo has stated that they will not produce an AO game. In fact i believe it's in the article, maybe you should read it. The game is going to have a good plot, people just don't want an over the top killing game. The over the top killing is the selling point, everything else that they do good in the game is bonus. I'm pretty sure they're priding themselves on a good plot for this game though.

Actually, Manhunt is probably one of the few gory games that used it's gore to actually make you feel sick as you killed people. Plus it had one of the most morally evil villians.
I'll probably wait until the review comes out before I decide on buying it or not. I'd rather not waste $60 on a piece of shit game.
I'm going to buy it. I have the first one and enjoyed it. I definately don't hold the toning down against them. Why wouldn't they? It's the only reasonable business move.

You don't think production costs money or anything? I always thought it did. What with programs and human resources and lots of other stuff required to make games. But I'm probably wrong.

To me this says "We have no artistic integrity and are only doing this for money. Buy, chimps!".
To me this says "We have no artistic integrity and are only doing this for money. Buy, chimps!".
How exactly does it say that? Sure, they could leave it the way they intended, and then it would never see the light of day and no one would see their "art". Plus, they'd lose a whole lot of money. The way I see it, they didn't have a fucking choice.

Of course they did. The alternative is junking the project and coming up with a different plot line and different gameplay that didn't involve to much violence. It's like when they released Resident Evil for the N64 and made it "less violent" by taking off all the blood. They butchered their game.
I'll elaborate further: Do you know what Todd McFarlane did when Marvel told him he had to tone down the violence on his shit, and to make his characters more commercial? He took off with 6 other guys and founded Image Comics.
This, my friend, is integrity.
To me this says "We have no artistic integrity and are only doing this for money. Buy, chimps!".
"Artistic integrity" doesn't apply to a business like this. Unless you think artistic integrity is worth losing business, laying people off, and possibly fucking over some peoples lives because they can't afford their rent or other such things.
Besides, what's so artistic in making a game about a guy brutally killing others?

Everything sounds stupid when you put it bluntly. GTA is running around and beating people up. Counter Strike is shooting at people.
But can you honestly say you see nothing artistic about GTA: San Andreas?
People should take pride in their work.

Tell you the truth, I'm tired of people complaining about video game developers toning down games and "what could have been" it terms of gore and extreme violence. It's just the same ol' story, kids just want their blood and guts in the most sadistic ways.
Anyway, I'm renting this before I make any decision in whether to buy it or not.

Sorry for the bump, I just didn't want to make a new thread when one already exists.
Well I just got this game, and I have to say wow. I only have the PSP version, but from what I have read it's the same as console versions with just a bit of toned down graphics. I am only in episode three but the killing of people is so graphic, I love it. The storyline is kind of meh, haven't really gotten immersed into it, but great game all the same.
I'd say to anyone who hasn't tried it to pick it up, if you like stealth type games, and gory games, then this is a perfect fit for you.
I believe if your PSP is hacked then you could get a patched version of the Manhunt game completely unedited? So if you wanted to check that out and you have a PSP thats hacked or has the custom firmware you could check it out.
Sadist Cell?
I played the first and was impressed that the guys voice came in through my XBL headset. Might rent, but definitely won't buy this.
