POP INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCE
"Off The Grid" - Beastie Boys; Track from: "The Mix-Up" [Capitol Records]
I didn't even know they had a new song out, nor that they were being honored. Some super fan I am. Anyway, i just checked out the song and it's great, I hope they win. Looks like I need to buy the album now too.

The album is entirely instrumental I believe.

I think it's been bought out.
I do not think, I am certain. Every music awards night is, at least for the big prestigious awards.
The new beastie boys album is indeed an instrumental one. It still kicks a lot of ass.

Yeah, I really enjoy the Beastie Boys' instrumental work just as much, if not more than their hip hop. And yeah, they won best instrumental record for "The Mix-Up" which is awesome.
I was much more surprised to hear Herbie Hancock won. It's great to see such an amazing and influential musician finally get the recognition they deserve.

Yeah, I really don't get this obsession over Amy Winehouse. Sure she's the British version of Britney Spears (personal life, not music-wise), but to be honest, I don't think her music is that spectacular.

I think Winehouse is much crazier than spears.
Spears is just a loser.
Winehouse does crack.
Hardcore.
Yes, she's junkier that Britney... also a little bit overrated.
Jesus, Beyonce's legs... oh my god.
I watched most of it and I Thought it was well deversified. There was a bit of everything. A little Hip-Hop, some Gospel, Classical and Jazz and even some more weird but good stuff.
I think Amy Winehouse's performance was actually good. I kept waiting for her to flash the camera or something. She seems really really shy though, which I thought was odd. I thought she would be a little more, over the top. But it's good to see her out of rehab or at least going back in or whatever.

The Grammys are shit with no credibility. They're just about sucking up to fucking record companies and displaying hot artists so people will watch it on tv.
Rihanna and Jay-Z won best rap/sung collaboration?? All he does is talk for 20 seconds at the beginning of the song, that's not a collaboration, and he ruins it in the process. Foo Fighters's album was lame but it still won best rock, what a joke. And Amy Winehouse only deserves to win a slow and agonizing death by drug overdose, she's nothing more than the new Courtney Love, a despicable overrated piece of trash.

Kanye West was hilariously pompous.
I'll start watching the Grammy's when they start awarding talent and art, not sales. All they do is give undue praise to horrible-to-mediocre shit that a bunch of dumb assholes like.

When has Kanye ever not been pompous? But I still think he's alright because his music is pretty awesome. Although I think Nas' Hip Hop is Dead was better than West's Graduation
Winehouse's performance was pretty awesome, and compare her as much as you want to Britney, but Winehouse can still perform and put out good music, which is way more that can be said for Britney. Spears is psycho crazy, Winehouse just wants to get high.

Absolutely right. It's just a huge popularity contest. The reason Whinehouse won against Feist was cause she's had so much exposure due to her bad life style, where as Feist being a sane person gets almost no recognition from all the stupid little teens that listen to music, not cause it's good, but cause it's "cool".
I think the problem is not enough adults buy music, so you end up with people who have gotten a majority of their sales off of punk-ass fucking kids.
Though I still think they should handle it like the Academy Awards. Granted, there is much more music made than movies every year, but a system could still be worked out, maybe stuff with at least a little exposure. Like There Will Be Blood has all sorts of nominations at the Academy Awards, and it wasn't even out long enough to gross much.

Utter bollocks. I'd heard it was crap before listening to the album itself, but as soon as I heard The Pretender I knew the rest would be equally great (it was).
I wish Rush would've won the Best Instrumental category.

What about the fact that legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock won album of the year, or that the Beastie Boys instrumental album won awards? I understand that it is a popularity contest, but the Grammys this year seemed to be a little less elitist douche.

Fuck the Grammies.
I don't even understand the time frame anymore.
Tool's "The Pot" was up for a Grammy. That CD was released in either late April or early May 06. Now, I'm not saying they didn't deserve something, but how is that relevant to 07? Kanye's "Graduation" was released Sept. 11, 2007. That's more than a year time span. How the hell do we know what's even being considered for Grammies? I understand posthumous lifetime acheivement awards, but this shit makes no sense. If someone else gets it, please, explain.
And Radiohead's "In Rainbows" wasn't up for anything?
I don't even understand that system.
