A song I wrote, then played at a talent show at my school today. Won 1st place, but was only up against like 4 other good acts. The title is Where I've Always Been, and it's about my girlfriend of 2 years (next week) going to college far away. It's also the first song that I've written, chords and lyrics. It's a sappy song, but I would enjoy critiques!

(It was filmed without my knowing by my friend in the crowd.)

That's really good. I might convert it into and video for my iPod. That's a compliment coming from me.
Could you perhaps post the lyrics? It's kind of hard to hear at some parts...
But awesome dude. I like it lots.

Verse 1:
I stare at your eyes and slip into peace
You whisper sweet words that captivate me
My heart is on fire, my body is weak
We both close our eyes and drift off to sleep
I dream we are lying under a tree
I'm holding you and you're holding me
I'm facing the stars, you're facing my ear
not facing the fact you'll no longer be here
Chorus:
But I know that you will be gone
For hopefully not long
and I'll be waiting here
Where I've been all along
While you're in a different world
You'll still be my sweet girl
Until we meet again
I'll be where I've always been
Verse 2:
It's been a long time and I miss you so
It brings me to tears that you had to go
But as long as you're happy I'll always know
You'll be safe in my arms just like long ago
I wonder if our love is still strong
Or if all those frat boys are doing you wrong
But I still have faith that you will be faithful
I'll be by your side as soon as I'm able
Chorus
Verse 3/Bridge
You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone
Without you here my life feels so wrong
I trust in you with all of my heart
But I'll be where I've been from the start
Chorus
Where I've always been
.................................................. .............
Sappy lyrics, I know. The line with frat boys was an inside joke with my friends, so I had to put that in there.

Not bad Jallen, it takes balls to get up in front of your peers and do a solo acoustic original tune.
You have a very nice voice, and that is a pretty sweet(and corny) song.
I like it =]
I feel like most girls dream of having someone say that kind of thing to them. She's a lucky girl and I love the lyrics.

Wow, your singing's a lot better than I thought. I mean, I knew you could sing, but this sounds great.
The guitar theme's really catchy, and fits well.
Only problem I have is the tone with your guitar, it doesn't sound bright enough, maybe? It's probably just the brand of guitar you're using. I dunno, it's a little thing, and unimportant in this circumstance.

Great job. Pretty ballsy to preform a solo in front of a large group of people like that. You should try doing a better recording of the song.

She has yet to hear it :(
Neither she nor I wants her to listen to it on youtube but I keep forgetting to bring my guitar when I see her.

Hmm that was pretty good. Actually, when I first started reading the lyrics before the video loaded, I was imagining to Norwegian Wood.
