Here's an unusual update.

Explosm now has three official game servers. Two for Team Fortress 2, and one for Counter-Strike. Huge thanks to scrapz (http://www.explosm.net/profile/29869/), Matterialize (http://www.explosm.net/profile/4787/) and Tempest (http://www.explosm.net/profile/8303/) for donating and running the servers.

Click the following for info on connecting to the TF2 servers (http://forums.explosm.net/showthread.php?t=23271) and the CS server (http://forums.explosm.net/showthread.php?t=20964). Those two links are also discussion threads, so join the forums if you haven't already. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the forums, we've got quite a gaming community here, with a whole forum devoted to it (http://forums.explosm.net/forumdisplay.php?f=49).

I play on one of the TF2 servers just about every night (in fact I'm gonna jump on after I post this). Hopefully I'll see some new faces there!

I don't know.

I have no idea who half of the people on the TF2 servers are. It just feels like an ordinary TF2 server. The only thing that could regain my interest is custom maps. :whale:

Urser, you should buy a server that does just custom maps. It'll be buckets of fun.

We had a pretty good turnout while I was playing, thanks Rob for sticking this on the front page. I asked who was playing because they saw it Explosm, and besides the regulars everyone else said that they were playing because of that.

Maybe we could even start up a group that goes outside and tries to talk to real people. Maybe even a female!

NEEEEEERDS!!

(I used to play WoW)

When you do this "talking to real people" thing, do you have to yell down at them really loud, or do you carry like a megaphone so you can use a normal speaking voice? :fmita:

Well now, sounds like I need to check this out. Always looking for a set of folks who can appreciate my random and inappropriate team talk. ;)

I really do need to log onto one of these servers. I raped face at CS:S and TF2 and love the games, but lately I've had too much RL crap going on (they didn't give a disclaimer for the fact that babies get sick in the parenting manual!! ) and then filling in the gaps w/WoW and Halo because my real friends play those games.

I love what Valve has done w/TF2 though. A lot of people think it's a bit over the top, but I feel that the balance of the game makes it all justified. I've never played a TF mod with such balanced classes as TF2 (and I've played since Q1 QuakeWorld TF).

I have pool league tonight, but I just might log on and kick some ass tonight. Be on the look-out for a Techno-Tranny!

Well I'm already playing in the CS:S server when I see people, or I even sometimes join and wait for people to log on.
I might get TF2 whenever the government will send me money.

why not a explosm video game where you make a daily webcomic with a group of 4 and compete with other players making their webcomics!

Everyone who has played FPS from doom - Q3 "rape faces" at CS:S. I played CS:s when it was released, and I instantly was able to join the best "team" in iceland. I've got so far 3 awards in my cupboard of extraordinary online achievments. And by achievments, I'm not talking about virginity.. i'm talkin something huge as freaking online tournaments. Those were good times.

Ok, so maybe you've skullfucked a few more people than I have. Either way, if you've been playing as long as you say you have, and you've seen stuff like this where very casual gamers get together as a group, you should realize that there's generally a wide range of skill. I'm saying I'd probably be on the face-raping side of the explosm bell curve.

Jesus you're a bit behind the times arn't you?
It's only a tenner for like 50 hours play and well worth every penny.
But alas, i too went on the TF2 server a while ago and 'twas empty. shame.

Coincidentally (considering your name), it's not that some people can't afford CS:S, it's that some people could barely run CS as it were and therefore have no chance of running CS:S.

Not saying that this is the poster's particular problem necessarily, but it's possible.

How about hosting a Half-Life 2: Deathmatch server also? HL2DM is a nice alternative to CS:S because it's free to anyone with an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card, and it's quite fun throwing things around with the gravity gun.

Incidentally, I'm working on a HL2DM server right now. Perhaps we can talk about hosting it maybe, because of how awesome it is?
