Simple enough question I think, where do you find most of the bands you listen to?
I find most of the bands I listen to in magazines. I'm subscribed to spin and blender. But I also frequent a music blog every now and then for some new bands.

Usually from friends.
I guess I'm more open to giving some band I haven't heard a chance if one of my friends tells me they're good.

Friends, myspace and blogs. Blogs are best though.
From friends. A mate at who works at a music shop often has tips on new bands that are good, as well as some older ones I may have missed.
Magazines, usually its either Metal Hammer of Total Guitar, until Total Guitar went Total Emo.
Blogs and the web. http://www.metal-archives.com/ is a very good site for reviews and band history.

Friends, Myspace, Explosm, HMV, Virgin Megastore, The Pirate Bay, Metal Hammer, Metal Archives, Youtube, Limewire.
That's about it I think, although not so much Limewire anymore, all they have is usually viruses cleverly named to get you to download them. "King Diamond cute girl has orgasm on webcam." That disturbs me somewhat.
Mostly friends and my brother. I pick up on bands I find on LastFM through 'similar artists' stations too. And sometimes Explosmers. If I'm looking for a new band I either ask Far (or he just randomly suggests bands) or I take a glance at what Audio and spaj are listening to on LastFM.

My friends. One is a real metalhead, and gives me gems like Between the Buried and Me, In Flames, Parkway Drive, etc.
Another is into metalcore and rock and manages a promotions company, so through him I get shown good local bands to listen to, and good metalcore and hardcore, like As I Lay Dying and the like. He's also good for recommending artists who write really beautiful, acoustic numbers.
Other than that, a couple have added me on MySpace, and others I've seen live, supporting bigger bands that I went to the concert to see.

Sometimes I find out about bands when they open for bigger bands, like The Suburban Legends, Westbound Train, Goatwhore, Gojira, and Bad Acid Trip are some examples of bands that have opened for bigger bands. Also, I find out alot of stuff from my friends, especially all the Industrial/Aggrotech bands I've been listening to lately like Mushroomhead, Psyclon Nine, and Dawn of Ashes.
Doing alot of reading on Wikipedia also helps me find out new artists as well. And also, when I look to download stuff, sometimes they'll be listed under Compilations with other similar artists, which is how I found out about Leng T'Che and Machetazo when I was looking for Asesino.

last.fm (http://www.last.fm/) is a really great site to find new music. It scrobbles all the songs you listen to and then, based on that, generates a list of similar artists you might like. Furthermore, you can launch your own radio stream, for example "artists similar to 'The Strokes'" and last.fm plays songs of bands, that people like, who listen to "The Strokes".
If you want to, you can check you my profile (http://www.last.fm/user/Gratisgulasch/).
edit: Oh, I must have overlooked Aoifes posting.

I find the vast majority of new bands I like at gigs. I keep up with bands I've seen before and then go see them, whether they're supportig or headlining, and then checkout all the bands that play. The British Ska Punk underground is truly communal, and generally you'll get three or four bands playing in support ofa headline act. I'm ctually prety good mates with guys from a couple of bands on the scene, and they'll draw my attention to bands they've played with. But most of the ime I go see them play next time thy're in town and I'd say I've discovered about 80% of my music from seeing the band live.

From wherever. They may be affiliated with a band I already like, or one of my friends is like "OMG (insert artist/band name) is so awesome you have to check them out!", and other things.
MTV Total Request Live
No, but seriously now, LastFM and Pandora are good for the similar artists (like Aoife said) and I also have several friends who work in the nightclub industry who have introduced me to a lot of shit I wouldn't have otherwise heard of.
I usually browse http://www.progarchives.com. There's loads of bands on there and alot of people recommending the good ones on the forums. Only good if you like progressive rock tho ^^
Hats of!

I find a lot on pandora and lastfm. My friends also.
Sometimes when I get bored and just start searching everything I can think of, I come across some good artists also.
I just google whatever I feel like listening to and this helps in finding out stuff about my favorite genres.

I used to hear about them from Spin magazine, but it started to suck, so I canceled my subscription.
Now most of the new music I hear comes from my e-music subscription. Or from my favorite podcast NYUB (http://www.nyub.net)--He plays a pretty good mix of different genres, and it's all underground or up and coming stuff. Never any really established artists.

I would have to say www.garageband.com
Best site for indie music and the like. Alot of new and upcoming bands there,
I highly recommend it if you're into that genre of music!

Pandora and Lastfm are where I found 90% of all my music.
The other 10% came from random impulse buys in discount record shops, good stuff there.
I usually find my music by watching the Fuse channel early early in the morning. That's when they play all the stuff that no one has ever heard of. I love it.
Also, myspace, purevolume, and I used to love 15megsoffame.com when it was around. Shame it was shut down.
Sometimes friends, mostly random internet searching, and a lot of times I dig through the music that influenced the bands I already like.

If I want to find new music I get my arse onto discogs.com and search through net label listings and then assosciated links within artist pages. Lots of band websites free music (that doesn't suck) to be found.
Mostly through one of my friends, she is a music nut. Best of all, we have practically the same tastes in music.
Movies/TV
I have so many soundtracks on my computer, maybe even more than actual albums.

Before i had the internet i relied on MTV2, kerrand and later Scuzz. After that I used the usual virus ridden P2P networks for a whiile, and noow that i'm a little more sensible I usually just sift through Myspace and Wikipedia.
I get most of my music from the radio or just overhearing music from my friends. But now that I think of it, I think the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games introduced me to some bands that I either never heard of or haven't listened to in a while.

I play in a rock band, so lately I've been finding out about new music from actually playing shows with national touring acts. If not from them then other local bands we have been playing with or club promoters. And there really is no discounting myspace, I've found out about a lot of music from there. Another overlooked place is wikipedia, I can't count the number of times I've been reading about a group and found links to other similar bands or sideprojects.
I used to read magazines like Spin, Blender, and AP but I quit after I stopped working in a music store. Too expensive, and I rarely found much worth listening to.
Among most others things listed here, I've got some pretty good music from movie soundtracks.
I always end up liking music that ends up on Zach Braff movie soundtracks. Good call on the soundtrack comment.

Either through friends, the radio, or TV. A lot of times I see a band play on SNL or something like that and I become interested in their music. Same goes for hearing a song on the radio.
I usually find out music through my one friend and then finding related bands while downloading and bands that open up for bigger bands.

I find mine through friends. I just ask all of them "Have you heard any new songs lately?". Since we all like the same type of music its not really hard to find some good songs :P

Most of what I find is either from my friends or pandora.com, but I've found a lot of new music to be honest by playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band. If I like a song on the game, I'll look up the artist (If I don't know them already) and find more songs, see if I like them. I've increased my playlist quite a lot through plastic guitar games.
My sister and I have the same taste in music, and we both use Myspace and blogs. So if she finds something she likes, she sends it to me, and vice versa.

I like going to purevolume.com sometimes, thats where I find out a lot of bands lately. Also I hear about bands from people I know. I've been to that metalarchives site but there are too many bands there that aren't very popular so I can never find downloads for them.
Another great way to find more bands is to find out the record label of a band you like and look at other bands under the same label. Half of the labels out there sign bands that sound similar.

I have friends that work at a CD store and the local collage radio station, so we just swap harddrives of music onto each otherafter coasting the massive selections. And like Android stated, I have been playing live music for a while, so you end up ether playing or checking out sweet new bands, Or playing "I know more bands than you do" with your buds that you see on tour. Thats a great game, I have alot to thank for that shit.

I like cruising Myspace. Pretty much all of my friends have different tastes in music, but occasionally theyll show me something I like. Thats how I found out about Reel Big Fish and The Fratellis, two of my favorites. The only magazine I get is the Rolling Stone, but that usually just showcases some lame pop/dance bands.

I use that site lastfm
if you sign up for it and you play some music through it, it gives you really awesome recommendations. some of them suck a dick sometimes, but you can filter them out. its pretty cool
also ruckus.com is a site geared towards college students and lets you download songs for free. the catch is that you have to renew the license.
other than that, magazines and my friends.

I got all of my favorite bands from my dad, they are all 80's. Sometimes I learn about bands through my sister or brothers, or on the radio. Every once in a while I stumble across a good one on YouTube.

i use the site imeem.com but all the playlists they post on the front page usually suck
people send me playlists and tracks there

90% of my music comes from one of my best friends. She has so much music it's ridiculous, so when I want to hear something new I ask her to burn me a mix cd. I have not been let down once yet. She's so cute when she labels them, hand writing every song and artist. And when I like a song enough, I ask who it is and for her to give me the rest of their music.

There is so much music that is accessible to everyone through the internet, and the ability to make half decent home recording cheaply. That I find it such a daunting task to actually seek out new music. I personally just let it happen.
If I hear something I like on my friends I-pod while riding in the car, ill ask about it. That’s about all I do. Fortunately I have friends who have similar tastes to mine, and they aren’t as intimidated by the volume of music on the internet.

It used to be the case that we'd pick bands based on cover art.
Back in the day when tapes were still King, there was a little shop in Penrith Plaza that was the only place to carry metal - tapes, shirts, LPs etc. Basically, we'd go check it out, scan the covers and band photos and just pick our stuff based on the 'look'. Back then, certain bands had a certain style of art so it wasn't as pretensious as it sounds.
Some of these bands would have a postage address on their inserts. So, you'd write to them and start tape trading. Back before emails made communication instantaneous, you'd wait weeks at a time while you sent a letter off with a few copied tapes and then heard back from them with their own letter and copied tapes.
Extreme aggression was the major metal distributor in Australia and they'd send you out pamphlets with your orders, so you'd get a lot of ideas from them.
Funnily enough, these days its largely the same, just quicker. When a band from Europe tours and we've got support or whatever, we hang out and talk music and pass on some bands to each other. Then, we stay in contact and keep sharing info with each other.
Also, any bands that we support or which support us might work their way onto our lists if we like their stuff. Same thing, they just become part of the word of mouth chain that exists.
Popular mediums such as MySpace aren't really the kind of place that you'll find a (real) death metal or black metal band, at least not one that has talent, so those mediums are generally not used as much.

Either from some people recommending me the bands (in real life or on the internet) or, most of the time, just search a genre in Limewire and get a number of different bands, and then pick the ones I like.

I randomly listen to any band I can find. My favourite sources for new music however, are The Flaming Lips messageboard and the Questionable Content webcomic. Dammit if Jeph Jacques doesn't have amazing taste in music.
Another good source is wikipedia, I'll search bands I've never heard of before, and if I like what I read about them I'll listen to them. I've found tons of bands this way.

Usually from my friends, but lots of the time there will be one song by a band that I really like, so I download more of that band.
