I'd like to say I'm an avid watcher of comedian's television specials, And I've seen at least a dozen or more so I think I can have a valid opinion on this.

For me it has to be either Jim Gaffigan or Demetri Martin. Jim Gaffigan for his mature yet totally childish humor, and Demetri Martin for his crazy one liners. I've seen many other good ones, like Dave Chappelle, which is probably #3 on my list, but I've seen a hell of a lot of bad ones.

So anyway favorite comedians.

Ol' Demitri got some tricks, indeed.
I've always liked Ross Noble, and Cal Wilson is good for a chick.
Billy Connolly is great, but he is getting on in years now.
These are quite possibly the cream of the crop, but there is one comedian, for me, who outshines all others.
Russell Howard is that comedian. I don't know what it is, but he is as funny as all shit.
Which is pretty funny.

Russell Howard is amazingly funny.
Billy Connelly was awesome, but his latest tour disapointed me. Frankie Boyle is ridiculously funny and has no limitations on what he'll say.
But my favourite has to be Eddie Izzard, his style of comedy is unique and well performed.
I'd suggest renting some of his stuff.

RUSSELL PETERS!!!
As much as I have to agree with the above comedians, Russell Peters is incredibly funny, especially if you are Indian, Asian, African, or any other minority you can think of.

I thought I had seen funny until I saw Jim Carrey do stand-up. Very funny man.
^Russell Peters is a classic.

I think Pablo Fransisco is pretty funny the first few times but he needs some new material.

Dylan Moran, who also played Bernard Black in Black Books. Anyone who's seen him live would know his stand up is so much like his character, and both DVD's are hilarious (I saw the second set live at Newcastle City Hall).

Other than that, Bill Hicks and Bill Bailey.

Bill Bailey, followed by Jimmy Carr.

Demetri Martin has the best website, hands down (http://www.clearification.com).

Anyone else here go to the Edinburgh fringe festival? I saw some comedians that were new to me: Phil Kay is basically a Scottish hippy but he was hilarious and apparently is so intense and quick every night he has a different show. Also, Glen Wool, Canadian, boring name but hilarious, plus he has a moustache.

Demetri Martin- Just hilarious..

Mitch Hedberg- One of the funnier men we lost too early.

Dane Cook- I saw him live and you just can't not laugh; wether you hate him or not.

Ross Noble for his random hilarity and Jimmy Carr for his perfect but clearly rehearsed delivery.

George Carlin, plain and simple.

I fucking hate that guy.
Most of the best've been said, like Bill Bailey, Ross Noble, Jimmy Carr etc.
Lee Evans is good, but he gets a bit much sometimes. His showstoppers are hillarious.

+Rhod Gilbert! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaWX1cc8xNk) I don't know how popular he is, but you really have to watch his stuff, he's awesomefunny.

Ross Noble for his random hilarity and Jimmy Carr for his perfect but clearly rehearsed delivery.

You'd be surprised at how he well he delivers responses to the audience. When I saw him, an audience member asked "Do women like side partings?" clearly trying to make a joke of his hair style. He replied with "No, but they like money and fame." almost straight away. Although the majority are obviously well rehearsed, some are just down to him being quick witted.

Russell Peters is hilarious when he's on form, but he's sometimes a jackass to the audience. In one performance he called them motherfuckers and they booed him, but he thought that they were just booing his joke and he just started laughing about how retarded it was to boo that particular joke. Not only did he make the audience angry, he was also too dumb to notice. The video is on YouTube somewhere, I will post it if I find it.

Mitch Hedberg is, as stated above, hilarious. I remember seeing one of his earlier performances, and he hadn't change one bit right up until his passing in '05. Great comedian.

Jesus Christ, nobody mentioned Loius CK yet?
My list:
Louis CK
Chapelle (yes I know, lame, but the dude's funny)
Chris Rock
Stephen Colbert/Jon Stewart (no standup, but both crack me up)
Seinfeld
George Carlin <-king

And I'm a firm believer that Dane Cook should get bent. He's not funny.

Ross Noble definatly, see him next monday.
Jimmy Carr
Peter Kay, He makes jokes about everyday people and points out the stupid things they do, it's genius.
Lee Evans but sometimes he tries too hard to be funny.

As for legends of comedy, Bill Hicks.

A current comedian favorite, Jim Gaffigan. He's pretty orginal and I find him very funny. I have tickets to see him in October.

Oh, it's been said, but I dislike Dane Cook too. He's WAY overated.

I find Jim Gaffigan medicore at best, and never heard of Demetri Martin, and Dave Chapelle is over rated. For me, the gold ol ones, Jim Carry, Robin Williams, The Amazing Jonathan, Jeff Dunham, the list goes on.

I like Dane Cook too but I watched part of his "Full Circle" show where he revealed he was religious and so I kinda lost interest, not just because he was religious but because for somebody with such off beat comedy it was a surprise to see he followed a religion :P

I like tonnes of comedians, can't be assed to name them all.
My all time favourite is definitely Eddie Izzard. He's just brilliant, and he pretends to be a transvestite, just for shits and giggles.

Tommy Tiernan is an absolute legend. He has ruined cider for me though.

I love Jimmy Carr too, he's hilarious.

Lee Evans and Jasper Carrott are my all time favourite comedians.
Although as far as I know Jasper Carrott hasn't done any stand up comedy in ages which sucks because I remember cracking up over and over again when watching 24 Carrott Gold a few years ago.

Jon Stewart (no standup, but both crack me up)

I'm not sure about Colbert, but Jon Stewart got his start doing standup. I've had a chance to catch some of it, and he is absolutely hilarious.

If he is your favorite comedian say so and why. That's what this thread is about, not who is THE best comedian. Pick up those dots and if you want to use a smiley, use one from the huge smiley list we have. I'm giving you this warning because it is your second post. Next time you will be infracted.

Ross Noble for his random hilarity and Jimmy Carr for his perfect but clearly rehearsed delivery.

If you go and see Jimmy Carr live at smaller venues a lot of his material involves banter with the audience and on the spot stuff.

Lee Evens, Bill Bailey and Russell Peters are funny too by the way.

Come on, has nobody mentioned Trevor Borris?! The guy is HILARIOUS!

"I was talking to some guy the other day and he said 'Your a gay farmer? What crops do you grow?' And I said 'I'm just like any other farmer. I grow mostly gummy bears and disco balls."

That one gets me every time.

Mainly I like him because he constantly makes gay jokes, but it's okay, because he's gay.

Russel Peters is absolutely amazing, and Jon Pinette is pretty good, but his fat jokes are really limiting and he's going to run out of ideas sooner of later.

Jim Gaffigan (I have the Doing My Time CD and I love it)
