Squalor in this years releases, relay reviews, banter.
Whatever you want, as long as it's civilised. Make sure to post streams/links if you're talking about a current or up and coming release. I'll probably drop by to post a few albums every other week.

Del tha Funkee Homosapien - Eleventh Hour

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/54/Del11thhour.jpg

The guy who whips up rhymes for the Gorillaz.
The eleventh hour is Del's first release in 8 years,
though you wouldn't think that since he gives a slouched
performance for the most part.
It may just be me but I hardly felt that exuberant aesthetic
he has, common on his earlier releases and with Deltron 3030.
I hope the new Deltron album if released this year,
isn't a half arsed attempt to keep fans happy
like this seems to be.

The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride

Darnielle doesn't have a particularly distinct voice, no range, and interprets the songs like any other regular Joe would. Though Darnielle 's charm is just that. He's nothing special. He is just an average joe. This album is still lo-fi folk despite the production. I guess songs in the key of kermit the frog aren't for everyone; but I find these songs to be charming.

Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant

http://i31.tinypic.com/211nfjt.jpg

This is a beautiful roots album. I guess its kind of Shins-esque, how they seem to have this atmosphere that always makes me think of a sea breeze. Although this could be a continuation of their first album in terms of ambience and texture, it's a huge step forward in terms of them finding their own personal style. I've found their lyrics very incongruous with the music, not to mention embarrassingly clichéd, but they seem to have at least learned to make very good use of vocals.

The Raconteurs - The Consolers Of The Lonely

http://images.pastemagazine.com/images/articles/6821_image_1.jpg

The first track is an immediate recall to Icky Thump?
Though what's apparent so far is that this album is definitely
more White than Benson. The albums more vast
and I'm glad they've decided to experiment, although
not as accessible as Broken Boy Soldiers; aptitude has been gained.
The bluesy feel is a nice twinge too.

Be Your Own Pet - Get Awkward

http://i31.tinypic.com/294p36e.jpg

This certainly did get me awkward,
it's not nearly as good as their self titled.
Honestly, it's just a rehash of the first album,
only without the element of surprise that made
them fun the first time around.
If it ain't broken, why fix it?
Because their sound dynamic was all they had.

Wow, I second all of the above. Especially Sun Giant and Consolers of The Lonely.

My recommendations of 08: (Sorry, I'm not very descriptive.)
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51PeEn1PTyL._SS500_.jpg
This album has definitely has a different feel to it, but in a good way. Has somewhat of a popish vibe, but not too much to drag most people away.

I absolutely love vocalists with really deep voices and this is probably my favorite one. Sounds like Johnny Cash meets some modern day rock band and it is quite amazing.

Howlin' Rain - Magnificent Fiend

Sounds like some classic seventies band. While definitely not as good as their first it still sounds decent.

Alexisonfire member Dallas Green's second solo acoustic album. I'm not the biggest fan of Alexisonfire, but Bring Me Your Love makes me love Dallas Green. If you like the first album, then you're definitely going to like this one.

And finally....
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/01/27/arts/vampire190.jpg
Well if you've lived under a rock for the past couple of months, there's been an album that's been driving all of the reviewers of the indie world crazy and it just so happens to be called Vampire Weekend. I don't even know how to describe them, but get ready to be amazed. Every single track on this CD is excellent and I've probably listened to it one hundred times in the past three months. I saw them live two days ago and they played a brand new song not on the CD that already makes me want them to release a new one.

recommendations:
- Every last one of them. You can't go wrong by listening to any track on this sucker.

I disagree with you on The Consolers of the Lonely. I had bought the album on the release date, and it's not so much more White than Benson; most of their songs are Benson's writing, but White and Benson collaborating on the vocals. Then again, their voices are uncanny at points, and your not really sure who's who. The bluesy feel, as you explain, was very evident in Broken Boy Soldiers, although this effort has more tracks, therefore more blues dedicated to it.
