View Full Version : Summer Conventions: Part 1!

Matt

We've got a really fun bunch of conventions we'll be appearing at over the coming months. We'll give out more information as it becomes available, but our first leg of cons has us in New York for the New York Comic Con (http://www.nycomiccon.com/) and Massachusetts for ROFLcon (http://roflcon.org/).

The New York Comic Con is from April 18-20 at the Jacob Javits Center. We'll be at booth 1759 drawing custom comics for fans and selling some t-shirts. Come make awkward conversation with some dudes who draw stick figures for a living.

ROFLcon is April 25-26, but we'll only be appearing at a panel on the 26th called "Making It Big" alongside Rooster Teeth, Brad Neely and Homestar Runner creators The Brothers Chap. The panel starts at 10:30.

We've got a couple more planned, including London and San Diego, so keep your eyes peeled to the front page for more information as we post it.

P.S. Dave says hi.

Consider Florida!

It's ugly in March but I'm here so it's cooler.
:D
&&& us deprived kids never have any comic conventions here.
EVER.

Just anime conventions all the time.

New York city is only 5 hours from Montreal. I'm really considering it since I have the money for that kind of trip.
I have no car though, so I'd have to take the bus unless someone nearby is going too.
Contact me through PM if interested.

I'm thinking of hitting up the New York Comic-Con, since I live in the Philly area and thats not too far away. It's a shame that the "real" comic-con is always on the other side of the country. :wail:

New York is going to be better to meet us at. We have a booth all to ourselves.

Rob
03-25-2008, 4:09 PM
What Matt said. As far as C&H involvement, New York is more "real" then San Diego, who continually turns us away.

Shagg
03-25-2008, 5:00 PM
Well, what I meant by "real" is that the other Comic-Con is more publicized and made big about compared to this New York one, which I haven't heard of until now.

Wow, I could genuinely go to one o these.
But fuck that, I've got better shit to do than hang out with a bunch of forumers.

Even though you're the most popular webcomic in the world, what a bunch of jerks.

Seeing as I live in San Diego, I'll attend Comic Con as always, though last year was pretty lame since there wasn't anything new. Who knows, maybe I'll go to your guys' booth and go insane or ask for a comic.

Any chance of ye visiting Ireland?

We did that last year. Ain't gonna happen this year, but since I live in Belfast I'm sure rob, matt and kris will return to visit at some point. We had a whale of a time with fans last year, like G-Nius above.

I wish I had about three grand to spend on a plane trip to America to see a few web cartoonists... wow, that sounds kind of lame.

There's only a few types of conventions in Australia that I've heard of, most of them are computer ones. I'm pretty sure someone runs anime conventions here. Blargh. :wail:

Matt
03-31-2008, 12:47 PM
If you find one and were even remotely interested, I'd probably use it as an excuse to visit.

Indoctrine
04-01-2008, 3:00 AM
I'll definitely have a look, Google is my friend.
I probably wouldn't even be able to travel to Sydney though.
I could convince my parents that a world reknowned webcomic artist wants to meet me. But then again, my sister would probably want to go and I'd be able to stay with her. Older siblings are great.

natalie137
04-01-2008, 6:42 AM
I live about 1 hour away? Nat live about the same too.

By the time the comic con's in London I'll be back home so I'll be about an hour and a half away, but already planned to come to this with a couple of non-forum friends from home who enjoy the comic if we can all get the time off work

simplyinsane
04-01-2008, 11:26 PM
For the NY convention, are you guys going to be there all three days? I'm trying to figure out which day I should go and I don't want to get there on a day when you aren't there. (Kinda defeats my whole purpose of going, haha.)

Matt
04-01-2008, 11:58 PM

04-05-2008, 11:28 AM
How do you guys get the money for the plane tickets and the booking for all of these conventions?

Do you honestly make that much money off of this site?

Matt
04-05-2008, 12:41 PM
I've been putting a decent chunk aside from what we make each month to finance stuff like this. We also sell merch while we're at the cons. Getting a bunch of merch in bulk is really cheap, so we cover all our expenses pretty easily.

Gaunt1et
04-07-2008, 5:01 AM

All of us. I don't think registrations are open anymore, though.

What Matt said. As far as C&H involvement, New York is more "real" then San Diego, who continually turns us away.

So does this mean that you guys won't be attending the San Diego convention?

Matt
04-09-2008, 3:58 PM
We'll be there, but sharing a booth with Tomorrow's Nobodies again. The plan is to have two of us there at a time. The other two will either be hanging around the booth or doing nerdy comic con things.

SLjimbolian
04-12-2008, 10:00 PM
Bummer, would've loved to go (hell, NYC is my backyard) but two of my buds from work already took off that weekend to go to Comic Con, so there's no way I can get off.

Matt
04-12-2008, 10:20 PM
Tell them to come by our booth and we'll draw something for you.

Okayu
04-16-2008, 3:02 PM
So, by this "we'll draw stuff for you", does this drawing stuff happen to be for free?
Still considering going, since it'll be beautiful weather on Saturday, making it a shame to spend in-doors, but I'm a sucker for free stuff.

shpadoinkle
04-16-2008, 11:16 PM

They are to me. The few I have printed out and posted on the wall I can read every day of my life and laugh. Knowing that all i have to do is walk 50 to that wall to get a laugh when ever a I want makes it worth everything.

Not like I paid the store the $200+ they wanted to frame a shirt. Printing all of those and framing the T-shirt cost me 20-25 bucks. Also I can't really put a price on its overall worth, it makes a great conversation topic and looks nice in my college atmosphere house. I had a party 2 days ago and 1 person thought it was awesome since he is also a fan and 2 other guys never heard of them and loved the comics. For some reason women don't like them as much, lol.
