Bob Wants To Go Home

We've done this game once before, and it was pretty fun until people started sucking. It takes a little 'splainin' to understand, but this game is pretty simple. Try not to fuck it up.

Meet Bob.

Bob is a pretty ordinary Joe. He has a wife and 2.5 kids (don't ask), works hard at the office every day, and just wants to go home at the end of the day and unwind with a beer and a little prime-time television.

This is where we meet Bob, at the end of his day, on the way home.

Hi there, Bob!

Bob needs your help. He needs you to get him home. Seems pretty simple, eh? There's one little problem, however:

Bob's world sucks. There always seems to be some sort of obstacle between him and his home. One day, it's a fiery pit, the next, hungry Velociraptors. Poor Bob.

This brings us to the crux of the game. How do we (you) get Bob home? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to draw a sequence of pictures showing Bob getting home.

In this game, your only limit is your imagination. You can draw a bridge magically appear over the pit, and Bob cross the said bridge, or a Pterodactyl swoop down and grab Bob and bring him home. You can even draw Bob getting down 'n' dirty and rock-climbing his way back.

However, and this is key, you don't have to get Bob home. Really, you could do whatever you want. The point is to take the scenario and do something funny and unique with it. In the last thread, one of the obstacles was a pirate ship and pirates, so I drew ninjas killing all of the pirates, then burning down Bob's home and gang-raping his wife before disappearing into the night (but not before one of the ninjas remembered to go back and kill Bob).

Once you all make your pictures of Bob completing (or not) my obstacle, I'll choose the one I like the best. Then, that person will make a new picture of Bob's woes, following which we'll all do our little scenarios, and the aforementioned person will choose one of us as the winner, and so on. The only rules are that you must use the basic template (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/MarikGod64/BobGame.png), and everything must be drawn with Paint.

You have 48 hours to enter your submissions.

Now that I've explained up a storm, let us begin with Bob's torment.

There is no serious art or critique involved. This is a game. If it were a drawing contest I could see why it'd go into Showcase, but it's really just a humor contest using mspaint stick figures as a medium. This is the forum for that.

Sure the quality of the humor and usage of circumstances to make a decent entry help, but seeing as we are restrained to using one medium, i.e. MS Paint, it is in some way a contest to see who can create the best story using only a given drawing tool. One of the deciding factors for me is at least how much the person spent in trying to make their comic look good in order to help deliver their punchline.

Here's how I see the whole category problem: it's simply a matter of opinion.

Really, this thread blurs the line between game and art contest. While there are "game" aspects (winners, losers, etc.), there are also art contest aspects. I.e. who can draw the best scenario for Bob's situation?

Sure, some of the art is crap, but that's because it's done in paint (no, paint isn't a bad medium, it's just that there aren't many people who use it properly). If the contest was open to inkscape, flash, and such, I'm sure the art would be better.

That brings us to the next argument for G&S: It isn't the quality of the art, it's the scenarios. But then again, don't comic contests rely on the quality of the joke. Yes, the art is a factor, but a halfway-decent paint comic with an über-great joke will receive much more praise than an an expertly drawn comic with a crap joke.

Therefore it is my opinion that Bob should stay in showcase/showdown.

Well, even though the thread may be dead... here's my obstacle. It's supposed to be a large worm with a flower growing out of its nose or upper lip. It's also a lot longer then just a head and one body section, it at least has 4 or 5. Use your imagination :)

This topic really needs to be moved back to Showcase... it may be a game but it relies heavily on art, and only artists (not artists per se but people that have an artistic inclination) would be interested in participating. Please Rob? It would be a shame to let a good topic die.
