View Full Version : 300 in schools, bitching ensues.
http://www.northwestgeorgia.com/local/local_story_235221509.html
So some teacher showed some 6th graders the first few minutes(allegedly) of the R-rated movie, 300.
While some argue that the movie is inaccurate and filled with gore, violence, and sex.
The first five minutes is not, and is a pretty accurate representation of early Spartan training.
So I think the teacher isn't in the wrong and should be okay.
No matter if the the movie is rated R itself, the first few moments are pretty much PG.

I see why everyone is upset, because it has an R rating and was not on the approved movie showing list, but come on. The first few minutes are fairly historically accurate.
I think the teacher should be in a little trouble because the movie was not on the "approved media list," but nothing major.
The one lady said that her child could not sleep that night. If her daughter is that impressionable, I would hate to see what happens when she gets into the real world.

She probably didn't hand out any of those papers that your parents have to sign to say it's okay to watch a certain movie.
What do you expect with this
“My daughter came home from school yesterday distraught, saying her teacher showed her an R-rated movie. I was shocked,” said parent Tina McCurley. “I found out it was the ‘300.’ It was the first time I’d heard of the movie, so I went online (to www.ChristianAnswers.net) to read the reviews. They described it as a pornographic slaughter movie with prolonged scenes of female nudity, sex acts, lesbian and homosexual content.”
Im guessing that its probably some hick town that believes everything is unholy and shit. Honestly its just a fucking movie and it was only a couple of miniutes of it which like you said are actually accurate about how life was for spartan children back then.
If you ignore the sex and stuff.. it's really a history lesson. Just a REALLY fuckin' awesome lookin' history lesson. So the Teacher shouldn't be in the wrong.. she was teaching. :gj:
If anyone.. we should blame the freakin' children for squeling!:argh:
What the fuck?
It was a goddamn history lesson, those parents are like fucking Nazis dude.
I can understand being upset if they showed the whole movie, but 5 minutes? Come on.
It's not like 12 year olds don't play video games or watch porn, they've seen shit like that before.

Why, of course! Christian Answers has all the unbiased reviews!
Seriously the first moments with spartan training are basically PG, and even the teacher stated he watched it with the principal first. The girl who came home explaining was obviously raised by her extremely Christian mother. Anyone who keeps on bitching about this small clip after a simple explanation really needs to rethink how they act.

People are such assholes when it comes to this shit. If the movie is R-rated, then its taboo. Even if the scene that the teacher showed the kids is not violent or sexual or profane in anyway. This is the tightassedness (I made it up) that our world slowly seems to be becoming.

I bet that mother hasn't let her little daughter watch anything that's even PG, let alone an R-rated movie. Those kinds of moms just suck. I can't believe she's pissed! 300 is a wicked good movie and those first few minutes didn't have anything bad.
I have the DVD and I just watched the first 20 minutes. At about the 7th minute, the education stops and the Persian messenger arrives, and it doesn't get the least bit violent until 12 minutes. No problem here except an overly-religious mother.

Few minutes as in before the wolf was killed, or showing the wolf was killed? 'cause that's pretty graphics for those little ankle biters, even if it was just a shadow. But, yeah, aside from the wolf encounter, I don't recall any swearing, or violence that is extremely graphic in the first 30 minutes, even. Some people are just looking for a reason to sue people. Welcome to America.

When I was in elementary our teachers never bothered pre-approving movies. We saw the nudes in Shakesphere in Love during english class, and at the end of the year we watched a variety of pirated movies and Troy that had absolutely nothing to do with the curriculum. It's not that big of a deal. That girl is probably from an overly religious family, considering her mother turned to www.ChristianAnswers.net for a review.

I went to Catholic school from 1st to 8th grade (pity will be welcomed) and the only somewhat offensive thing I've watched while there was the "Miracle of Birth" video which I'm sure most of you seen in school. It was gross seeing the little bastard get crapped out of the womb, but it didn't disturb me that bad. However, I would say something like that is rather more disturbing to kids than the first 5 minutes of "300".

Then again, maybe not. Despite 300, I don't think I could stand the Christian oppressiveness.
To be honest, I think it should be MANDITORY for students to watch 'shocking' movies from time to time. Nothing that breaks the law, but show them 12's when they are 12, 15's when they are 15, and recommend that they watch 18's when they are 18. Just so they don't become a sheltered and pathetic excuse for a human being later in life (or go insane and commit suicide over it, which is even better to be honest).

My child would not have gone to school that day if I had been told. I told her, ‘If they put it back in (Thursday), call me.’”
I hate these sort of statements, Scream (the film) has a much better philosophy on the matter; Television doesn't make psychos, it makes psychos more creative. I personally think thats a much more realistic approach.
the woman pulling out her daughter for the day is completely absurd to. whats going to be worse, watching a wolf get mauled, or missing out on a whole day of school (admittedly, both will have little effect :indiff:

You should question the teacher's judgement, obviously shit was going to blow up if you show an R rated movie at school and some assflap parent finds out. But still, it's this damn cycle of religous wankers teaching their children how to be assholes like them that have always screwed this world up.
I read how someone laughed at the Superbad reviews, so I had myself a look.
This movie should be BANNED! It reminds me of people who I attended highschool with who thought it was 'okay' to have SEX and get INTOXICATED. This movie says, 'Hey, pure youth, let's all go crazy and not think about consequences or He*l!' The F-Bombs fly around constantly with no regard to the English language and the only reason I stayed for the whole thing is that my Catholic friend was the one driving. I can't believe movies like this pass for 'art' in these days. I warn you: stay away from this secular movie—comedy is NOT funny!

Moral Rating:Extremely Offensive
What moral would that be again?
is on this point that the movie fails because the tone is angry, hateful, and often debasing.
Oh, right..
Secondly, the movie is anti-religious. When Leonidas is told to “trust the gods,” he replies “I’d prefer to trust reason.” The early scenes with the Spartan ephors show priests who are deformed and depraved.
These people need to see Cradle of fear, or The ring, or some other shitty dark movie, 300 is just a typical war movie, set at a time before they had panzy religions.
And that’s fine. But from an intentional Christian perspective, which is how Christians should view everything, there are Christian responses to the ugly tone of the movie and its worship of “reason.”
He just said "Christian" 3 times in one sentance, get over yourself seriously.
the relationship of husband and wife as full partners (although one of her actions is unrealistic and degrading).
Sorry, i never saw the movie but what does she suck him or something?
This movie is too much of a mixed bag for me to give it a positive review. Though it is almost excellent in moviemaking quality, it is so lacking in moral quality that I simply couldn't give it a positive review. But for your benefit, I'll layout the positives and negatives of this movie.
I don't remember any profanity or any drug or alcohol content, but the department where this movie really loses points is in the sexual content
Christians shouldnt be allowed to use the word "moral" , "everyone else is wrong and i am right", is not a moral.
And, i fail to see how a movie can lose points for sexual content.

The only thing in the sex scene they could think was degrading was her seemingly getting it in the ass. The most nudity you see of the guy is his ass beforehand the rest of the sex scene is the woman and her upper body.
I still want to know where they get "lesbian and homosexual" content from. I wish there was lesbians in it, would make it even more kickass. Unless they're referring to showing the queen's upper body during the sex scene and the prohpetic girl's naked high on something dance. The only thing remotely homosexual in the mvie is the countless bare chested men... Christians are weird.

Positive - “300” is pretty much the equivalent of seeing something blow up in the most awesome fashion right in front of your face. Everything about this movie is insanely cool, from the battles to just hearing Leonidas talk. I was pretty sure that the trailers for the movie would let people know that this could be a bit violent, maybe even have some sexual situations in it, but I guess not! I mean, it's not like the rating and description tell us anything about it either, so I guess we as Christians should just all walk into a movie about a Spartan war and suddenly be extremely offended when it's violent and has nudity! My goodness! What?! Violence and sex with Spartans?! Who would have thought?! So yeah. If you can handle things that are intensely awesome and make you feel like you could punch a bear in the face, go see this movie. If you can't decide on what to see because you failed to read the big gigantic R-rating or watch any trailers for the movie, then perhaps you'd be more into “McGee and Me.”
This is a cool Christian, one a few with brains on that site.

Fortunately I know for sure that there are many countries where nobody gives a fuck about kids watching R rated movies. Beside what the Hell? 300 rated R? I think it should be PG-14 at most. It wasn't worse than Troy or any other greek/roman historical movie.

I think thats the same one they showed us this year(grade 9). And that birth scene was more awful, than any R-rated movie.
Also I found a comment for the simpsons movie, from some random viewer, at our beloved Christiananwsers.net-
Negative - …My Bible says that there should not even be a HINT of sexual immorality in our lives. I went to the movies yesterday, and thought I would see this movie. The early scenes clearly show Homer Simpson grabbing the Bible and saying, 'You won't find any answers in here!' That was strike 1 one for me. And then the ensuing scene where Homer challenges Bart in a game of do or dare. His father dares him to ride his skateboard NAKED down to some area, and Bart complies. I walked out at the point where the movie focussed on Bart's genitalia. Actually showing a penis and testicles!!! The parents and the children in the theater roared in laughter! I left the theater sick to my stomach and felt that the Spirit of the Lord was grieved. I think that we have compromised too much in what we would allow into our homes and what we would pay to go see. I'm sorry if this strong but it is the truth. It's time to stop walking on egg shells and defend the Word of God! I don't care how I am judged by man. I answer to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I think all faithful Christians need to poke out their eyes and rip their ears off, just to stop these awful temptations and depraved evils ruining their wholesome lives.
And I'd be glad to assist them in this matter. It's the least I could do for them.
And yeah, The Miracle of Birth is a vile movie. I can't stand stuff like that.
And I saw some of Schindler's List at school as well. Which was cool, because it is an awesome movie. Shame no-one else in my class was interested in it (black and white = boring to them...plebs...).

Good lord, I thought it said that 300 was showed to 6th formers. 6th Form in New Zealand is 16-17 year olds. I was thinking "What the fuck is your problem, if the movie's R16, there's nothing wrong..."
And then I realised that it was talking about 6th graders. Woops.
On topic, the first 5 minutes are perfectly fine. From memory, you dont get very much (read: nearly any) gore or noodity in the first half hour, never mind first few minutes. Anyone who gets nightmares from seeing a boy in the snow fighting a wolf, without any violence shown, probably also has nightmares about slightly damp teddy-bears and unusually large ducks.
It all seems relatively silly, to be honest. I feel like seeing 300 again now, actually...
Maybe I'll show it to my year 7 friends.

Oh my god this christiananswers.net site is fucking genius! Listen to this review of Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven:
"Violence: The violence in this game is its worst trait. Considering your character uses a blade, seeing blood fly everywhere and heads being hacked off is expected. Many stealth kills involve your character butchering a poor enemy while he screams in agony. The worst of this is the secret character's stealth kills. He uses his fists so he can't slash up the enemy. Instead,he uses such attacks as breaking bones, cracking necks, pulling bones out them, and the traditional "pull heart out of the enemy's chest while standing there dramatically" attack. This all doesn't follow Jesus' command to "love one another as I have loved you"..."
I love this shit.
What the fuck?
Over-protective parents leads to social disorders and minor insanity, her mum needs to calm the fuck down, her daughter is 12 years old now. That's just one year from 13.
If you don't let your kids experiment a little they'll end up locked inside and paranoid. This is coming from personal experience.
As someone else said in this thread said "I try to give them a chance, but then they do shit like this!"
I feel that way about women and religion. I try to think in my head that they're trying to do things for the good of our world, I try to think they're good willed people but then they come out with shit that makes my blood boil.

Grr this is making me so very angry. I'm gonna put up some quotes that are the most important (or stupid...)
“We’re having mass killings in schools, then they show this movie. My daughter was very confused and took it at a different level.”
So her daughter is speccialll, she is gonna come to school in full armor and kill everyone with a sword now is she?
And also, how in the hell does THIS CONFUSE you!?
Schoen confirmed one scene depicts the boy using a spear to protect himself from a wolf. The violence is shown off screen via a shadow on a wall, he said.
“Most sixth-graders are 12 years old,” Schoen said. “This is not something that age group is not reasonably exposed to on today’s television.”
12 year olds cant deal with shadow-violence? Fuck that, yes they can, I mean I, and probably most of you could deal with it at like 7 or 8.

I think the kid was less bothered about the stuff she saw in the movie, more that she knew she shouldn't have watched the any of the movie, and she really felt uncomfortable with it.
But five minutes should be okay. I really wonder if it wasn't that she didn't let the parents decide, and didn't make it clear that none of the stuff shown would be PG+.

If its done in the name of God, its alright. Like, if he told him to do something, such as the plagues.

I personally would not agree with those some people. Are these people aware that they could grow up and make such stupid comments because of the gore, violence and sex throughout history? I think we can all agree that there was at least sex everywhere or we would not really be here. Who knows what would happen if there were never any wars or violence, though. Perhaps we can ask these people that proclaim there is no such thing as historical violence or wars?

Also, not everyone who says they're a Christian and does stupid stuff is a Christian. I guarantee you, none of these people are living it out right. There's a good number of true Christians who never get any press. Why? They don't do stupid stuff. Oh, sure, they're still hated, because they still spread the message and stuff, but they're not all, "YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HEEEEELLLLLL!!!" To them, alcohol isn't the ultimate taboo. They watch most of the same movies, play the same games, just more responsibly. If they feel that it's just not acceptable, they just don't watch it.
And the Bible... yes, there's some nasty stuff reported. Part of the reason is because we know we can handle it, another because... well, are they things that it's telling you to do? Nope. It's examples of stuff NOT to do.

but its a sin against God, and he is so great that there are such consequences. Same for why just one sin is enough to go to hell, its because of how great the one you are sinning against is.
To kinda put it into perspective, imagine if you kicked some dude in the stomach on the middle of the street. he would be like "dude ow" and the cops punishment wouldn't be too severe... but imagine if you kicked the president in the stomach... Why is it Christians instantly dismiss anything in the Old Testament, but then O WATE the Ten Commandments are in there, which they base their morals off of?
Or even better, the Christians that say that the bible isn't supposed to be taken literally, but just to read between the lines, when they base their entire religion off of the stories themselves in the bible. It boggles the mind how Christians can keep contradicting themselves, and still keep their faith.
Except for the fact that the bible says that all sins are equal to each other.
Yeah, they are. Any sin just once will condemn you, unless you put your trust and faith in Jesus Christ.

They described it as a pornographic slaughter movie with prolonged scenes of female nudity, sex acts, lesbian and homosexual content.”

I haven't seen 300 yet, and until its the HBO saturday night movie, I don't intend on it.
Though most teachers have to submit a schedule for their classes for the week (maybe just daily, I'm not sure) then the principal was in on it too, and he should be in as much trouble as the teacher is.
Though neither of them should be in trouble just because one kid's parent is too retarded to let her kid see a little violence (even when there wasn't any).
I'll bet this woman would let her watch a Disney movie, and most of those movies (even the older ones) are chalked full of 'implied' violence.
