View Full Version : What temperature is your computer usually running at?
My air conditioning broke yesterday and I live in florida so my pc has been running at 37C usually it runs at 30C when I have air. So for those of you with the ability to monitor your cpu temp, what is yours usually?

Not sure the exactness but I'm sure it's between 30C and 40C.
Also for anyone who would like a system monitoring tool, I use everest free edition, it lets me monitor the temperature of stuff and check performance, I usually only use it for CPU temp though.

Increase airflow? Are your fans working properly?

Yeah, they're running.
The computer's been on for a couple of hours though so, maybe that's the issue?

Well I leave my computer on just about 24/7 the only thing I can think of is if you have a mass of cables inside your case disrupting airflow, but as long as you aren't having any problem I wouldn't worry too much.

Any ideas on how to cool it down? (Using a laptop)

It's tough with a laptop, your best bet would be to buy a can of compressed air and try to clean the vent, also maybe look into getting one of those cooling trays with fans built in.

I dunno, a lot of people have problems with overheating. Maybe this thread will help them?
My CPU's doing 37-38.

Well, I was curious what other people's normal running temp since my AC cut out. I don't want to overheat my processor. :indiff:

I guess, but there are actual sources to recommend an optimal temperature. If someone's relying on the Explosm average or whatever that's probably not the best idea.

Exactly why a program was suggested! Mine's running at 43 C.

What I'd like to know is how you guys figure out at what temperature your computers are running. What do you do, stick a thermometer into the CD tray?
EDIT: Never mind, I just saw SOAD's post. Sorry.
I posted a link to a program called Everest further up, it uses the built in temperature sensor in your CPU to get the exact temperature.

I know that my Mac Mini doesn't even have a temperature sensor. I imagine it was left out in the interest of space.

Well if it has a processor, odds are there is a sensor built into, however I don't know any tools for the mac.
According to everest im running at about 67c its probably since im on a laptop I think i'll probably buy a can of compressed air like SOAD suggested.

That's just to clean out the dust, I highly suggest you check out a cooling pad, I got one for my laptop, not only does it keep the laptop cooler but it keeps it elevated so it doesn't heat up my legs either.

If there's a built in sensor, then why don't our computers already have a feature where we can view the temperature without having to buy another software?

You don't have to buy software. And odd are if you enter setup during start-up you can view the temperature in your BIOS

I fully intend to contribute to the thread, it's just that the program is taking forever to download. I had to amuse myself in the mean time. I will be editing this post with my temp.
76C according to Everest! :aaa:
I am assuming that is bad. My laptop is always hot as hell. But it usually runs fine so I don't know if I want to spend money on anything to fix that.

My motherboard is at 43C and my CPU at 53C.
I've had problems before when my fans were not working properly. The computer would over heat and shut down on it's own. Then it wouldn't reboot and I had to wait for it to cool down otherwise it was just shutting down again.
Great software by the way SOAD.
My CPU runs at 22C and my GPU at 52. The GPU should drop to around 20-30 when I find a waterblock that fits my graphics card.

Motherboard is at 45 °C, CPU is at 60 °C. That kind of scares me considering my laptop has been sitting on the cold desk all day and it's only been running for a few mins. I know for a fact that it gets ALOT hotter than it currently is, so I'm wondering what sort of temperatures I can reach.
Why must people invent small laptops with faulty fans? Damn Toshiba.

If you are sure that is you CPU yeah, that is not good. You should probably look into getting something to cool it down.

The fact of the matter is its, if your computer can nearly boil water in Colorado its never a good sign.
Still it depends what is it that is at 80? The processor (really bad) or your video card (still fairly bad)
EDIT: Oh Soad beat me too it, oh and if you dont mind the noise, take a home fan (those huge window fans) and replace the side panel of you computer with that, it might help a lot.

It's the CPU, it may be because I have this light in my room that gives off the most heat. I may need to get a different one. I may need to dust it out too.

Dust isnt a huge problem, unless its like a freaking dead rat hanging onto your CPU
A good dust off wont hurt, the stuff acts like insulation.
If your CPU still runs around 80c i would suggest getting another fan, and maybe one for the heat sink on the CPU as well (if there isn't one already). Those kind of temperatures can ruin the processor or drastically shorten its overall life.

I shut down my computer overnight, and it's now running at 28C, and has been all day. It would appear that when it gets hot, it stays hot... and I don't know what's making it run hot. I've run 3 anti-virus/spyware scans at once, played fullscreen games for a few hours, had plenty of processes running all the while, and the CPU isn't going over 28.

At work we had a computer whose fans had stopped running, the computer overheated and shut down and so we took the heatsink and processor out of the pc, 4 hours later, the heatsink was still hot to the touch.
My CPU's running about 31C which is pretty good considering it's on 24/7/365.

First, WooHoo, My First post.
My temps are...
CPU:
Idle: 28-34.
Load: 50-60.
Keep in mind this is a Pentium D 805 @ 3.9Ghz (1.55v)
GPU:
Idle: 30-33
Load: 45-50
7900GT @ 585Mhz (525Mhz Default)
I Didn't answer the question becasue i didn't know if it meant under load or not.

Load: 42-45
AMD +5600 OC'd at 3.12GHz
GPU
Idle: 44-50
Load: 51-61
8800GTS usually at default clocks, but if I'm playing Crysis, it's overclocked to 642.9/893.83. Then the temperatures goes as high as 65.

On heavy load, at most it reaches 38°C. Air-conditioning is a winner. The GPU hovers around 40°C if on heavy load. It's pretty much all the same, hard disk stays at around 42°C during heavy load, and the mother board runs at 34°C at most. My system is pretty well ventilated and I've never had it overheat even if the air-conditioning was turned off.
