I just got a new phone that plays mp3's so I downloaded limewire to get mp3's for it. My problem is that the mp3's I get off of it will not save onto my phone's memory card as mp3's, they only save a m3u files. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
m3u's are not mp3 files, an m3u is a playlist file, so either you are uploading the wrong files, downloaded the wrong files or your phone doesn't support mp3. I am inclined to believe it is one of the first 2.

When I download it from limewire it says that it is an mp3 file, but if I try to transfer it onto my phone's memory card or onto my music folder in my computer it reads m3u.
What type of phone is it?

LG, but it has a removable SD micro-card.
Well if you were to put the mp3's directly onto the card without using the phone as a middle man, there is no way they would be changed to m3u. Like I said, m3u is a playlist file. Odds are something in the way you are adding them is wrong, I doubt the phone is changing the files itself.

I'm downloading them onto my limewire account, and then transfer them directly onto the card. When I save it, it says that its m3u, and my phone will not even read it.
What are the file extensions on your computer?

I meant of the files you downloaded.

When I save them to my computer it said they were m3u. but I've already deleted them.

Ok, like I said, m3u files are playlist files, your phone is looking for .mp3 extensions. You will have to download some mp3's.
