Just like the AMD vs Intel thread, I want to see what GPU you guys prefer. I have used both, and have to say I am digging my 8600 right now, but I don't really have a preference per se, my budget dictates what I use.
I have heard the new HD Radeon cards hold their own, though I didn't get one. My X1650 pro was dependable for a long time while I used it.
I used to be an AMD/ATI guy, but like with my intel switch, when I switched to Nvidia I just liked it more. That being say, my ATI Radeon 9800 pro all in wonder was much more customizable in what resolutions and screen setup I could use. But I love my Nvidia card and I have no intention of buying a ATI card for my next upgrade.

I've just heard better things about GeForce and also my computer as well as my dads computer has one. They just seem better, as my laptops ati and my old computers ati sucked.

ATI is unstable, just like AMD.
Right now i run a nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultimate.
I tested with my friend that runs some kind of new ati radeon (dont remember wich one).
vs. my old 8500GT, the 8500 was actually better, and the 8500gt is.. well.. its crap.
Btw, this threat should've been "Nvidia vs. ATI" not geforce vs. ati, then it'd be GeForce vs. Radeon ;)
GeForce>Radeon.

I was aware of that after I had made the thread. You must be talking about an older card from ATI, because I am almost positive the new HD cards are on par with the new GeForce cards.
As for instability, as I said before I had no problem with my ATI card, as I have no problem with my 8600GT now, does your friend know how to use computers??

No, hes an idiot.
Im with nvidia at the moment. Mainly because ATI has nothing to show off. My mate bought a ATI HD 3850 and it failed without hesistation.
Im happy with my Evga 512mb 8800gt superclocked for now

The best ATi card on the market is the Radeon HD 3870 X2, which is fairly better than the 8800 Ultra, mind you. NVidia has the edge in DX10, because they have been in DX10 longer than ATi has; however, ironically, ATi is better than GeForce series in DX9.

Well, I've had a GeForce 2, a Radeon 9550, a Geforce 6800 and now a 9600GT, and I'd have to say I prefer Nvidia. The 9550 was a bit crap, whereas all the GeFs have been rock solid.

I always had GeForce's and they have always done the job.
Has ATI even recovered from the 8800gt? I haven't kept up since I got one but I remember around last fall the review sites were all going nuts about there not being any reason whatsoever to go ATI for the next gen.
Also ATI is a company name and GeForce is a product name, so the title doesn't really make sense. I'll edit it.

I like my Geforce better than my no-name GPU that couldn't even run Halo CE without the textures being 'blended'.
I've never had an ATI, but I am pretty sure they're damn expensive. Geforce 8600 GT works wonders for me. Smooth for games and haven't had any issues in the 8 Months I have had it.

I have started shopping for my computer and I am thinking of the GeForce 8800 over the new nine series, as I don't have much idea about it. The the new nine series are actually cheaper then the 8 series last time I checked...
Anyone have any reports/opinions on that?
I also looked at ATI and decided against it, as I have heard bad stories about it and nothing but good about Geforce. This is my first time building a computer :shobon:

My exteremely specific advice would be to buy a 9600GT from here. (http://www.umart.net/au/) (.net, not .com.au)
It's very good value, and realistically it's going to run anything you throw at it. I can max out every game I own except Crysis, but you need a supercomputer to max that, so let's ignore it. The support's been excellent from both Umart and Nvidia. I ordered it on a monday at about 5pm and it came the day after. Drivers for Vista have been frequent, and apparently with the newest drivers it outperforms a lot of 8 series cards. So yeah, I would strongly recommend both Umart and the 9600GT (if you have a store already ignore the store stuff).

I am not quite sure, but I think ATI made a HD card that was suppose to be on par, or at least their equivalent of the 8800GT. Like I said I could be mistaken.
But Thanks for editing the poll Rob, I realized the goof after I made the actual poll, and couldn't edit it.
EDIT
After looking around I read some people saying that the Radeon equivalent of the 8800GT is a ATI Radeon HD 3870, it is a little slower than the 8800, but if you use SLI and have two of them, and do the same with the 8800GT then there is little or no difference.

Does it have decent driver support for XP? No way am I installing Vista.
I was going to buy my stuff from easybuy (I think that's the name?) as Umart don't take credit over the interwebs.

Almost all Nvidia cards have perfect driver support with XP Misty. Well all the newer ones anyways.

Huh, weird, they took a credit card for me, but whatever. Yes, the driver support for XP was just as good as the Vista support (I had it for a few weeks with the 9600GT), the only disadvantage is that you'll get no DX10 but it's not that great anyway.
