So I know this has been out in the US for a while, but it's been announced for a June release here in Norway. Does anyone here own one, or know someone who does? Are they any good? I'm torn between buying the 700 series which comes out in June, or the 900 series which probably won't be out until December - January.

It just looks way too cool not to own. And at that price, around 4-500$, sounds like a downright steal.

I'll be honest here, i was a little underwhelmed by it.
I expected alot more from it.
The battery life is apparently really poor on it as well (think it was 1.5 hours, almost PSPish battery life, on large loads that is)
For a fully solid-state device, the battery life being so short is just, well, sad really.
The screen has a rather weird resolution for it, 800x480 if i remember correct.
While width is usually better than height (especially for the people this is aimed at) still seems like a strange ratio.
Here is a fairly decent review of it http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/11/16/review_asus_eee_pc/
Although for the price, it is really good.
Hopefully you can get more batteries, or longer-lasting batteries for it.
Comparisons for similar new-ish devices:
This > iPhone > OLPC > Sony Vaio TZ > > > crap > > > MacBook Air. (most pointless thing Apple has created, ever, crippled in so many ways it is shameful to notebooks everywhere, also, not sure if i should put OLPC, but it is a sweet little device)
I'd possibly get one, but i might wait to see what else comes out in the sub-notebook market in the coming year since it seems to be gaining alot of attention since the OLPC project started off.

This just seems kind of awkward. The keyboard looks small and the battery life is so short you could not really get to much accomplished. I could see where this would be good for uploading pics on a vacation and sending them to relatives, but it does not seem worth it. I would much rather have my full laptop and my blackberry than one of these.
No one needs to be connected to a computer all the time.

The battery life being such crap would be a bummer for sure. The resolution thing, I heard would be changed on the 900 series, making it full screen.

Dead wrong. Absolute bottom of the range battery life is 2 hours 45 minutes. The model that most people would buy is 3 hours 30 minutes, which is better than a MacBook, for instance.

My PSP gets like 6-8 hours of battery life. :indiff:

The battery life for may laptop is around 4 hours so I would much rather pay a little more and have more functionality.

But you have to remember that the eee is insanely small and probably about half the price of your laptop. The SSDs also run very, very fast, way quicker than hard drives.
What's with the screen size? It looks like the black area SHOULD be the screen but it's not, the screen is inset a few inches. Is it just a bad picture?

My laptop cost around $500 and that costs around $400. So my laptop was a bit more expensive, but it is worth it. Personally I would rather pay a little bit more for something with full functionality, but that is just me.

I heard that the 700 series has a weird aspect ratio for the screen size, but as I posted above, the 900 series won't have this issue.

Nope, it is really like that and I don't know why, my friend has one and that black area is just plastic.
That looks shittier than two shits taking a shit.

Wow, that's pretty damn shitty.

I wonder what the hell the Gadget Show team were doing with the EEE they had... they killed their battery in 1.5 hours or so.
And the life is still rather saddening for a solid-state device... i'd expect it to last significantly longer than my laptop which has higher specs and moving parts.
Still, it is a nice little thing anyway and i doubt most people would use it all the time.
Spare battery is a must though, just in case.

Where'd you get yours? I want one of those batteries.
I should get a new battery... i think mines is goosed.

Thats pretty sweet, I am actually considering getting one for myself, seeing as I really need a good computer for Word Processing and thats about it.

As seen in this vid, the 900 series has a full screen size like I hoped. I'm so excited about this now, it looks so awesome!

The 900 Def. seems to have the edge on speed, even without the boot options options on the 700.
Would have preferred a dual core system in there, the portable CPU's are really power efficient now, and with all that power saved by using SS Drives, you'd have thought they would make it more processor-powerful.
Definitely considering getting one though.

Dude, a dual core would eat up the power even with today's models.

Supposedly the ssd reads so fast that in a lot of things you don't even notice the slow cpu anyway. Look for the videos of it booting xp on youtube, it does it really quickly for such a slow cpu.

I saw a review of the 900 model, and, i was rather impressed.
If you are considering an EEE, get the 900, it is worth the extra bit of cash, more so than the price for the 700 and what you get for that.
Also, apparently the first laptop that handles multi-touch for Windows.

Yeah, the multi-touch looks interesting. You don't need multi-touch to scroll with two fingers though, (they implied you did in the cnet review) since old macbooks can do it and they only officially started having multitouch recently.
