Can you have more than one accounts (like different gamertags) on Xbox Live without paying?

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that its 1 per xbox. And if you get banned you have to buy a new xbox to play online.

I don't think so, if you did you would have people making a bunch of gamertags and transferring them to friends.

Yeah, there's a reason why multiple people playing online on the same xbox can only be guests within a single gamertag. Pretty sure it's 1 per box like hzac said.

Nope, me and my brother both had gold subscription on our 1 xbox.

Edit: But you have to pay for each subscription separately. So it isn't one per box, its 1 per subscription card.

I don't know where you guys get that impression. Sausage is correct. You can have more than one Xbox Live Gold account on one box. You can also use a memory unit/card to hold your Gamercard and play it on other peoples Xbox as soon as you plug it in.

and of course, you do have to pay separately. But you can always make your own offline account, a silver account. Your options are very limited, though.

You can have multiple accounts, as Sarge said. I, for one, have my normal subscription and then an account that is set up for America so I can get all the free downloads you guys get over there.

Unless you're talking about the original Xbox. In which case, I believe THAT may only have one account per Xbox. But the 360 can handle plenty of accounts, I think there is a limit as to how much it can hold. For some reason I am thinking 6 or 10.

I am pretty sure Sarge51 is correct about the original xbox being one account per machine. As per xbox 360, you can have as many as you want for the silver (or basic free) membership. Most people do not because they like to get as many gamer points as they can on one user name.

Also, as for getting banned on the original Xbox. I believe if you go out and buy a new subscription you can just think up a new gamertag and delete the old one. Which would (back then) allow you to keep playing online. If I am not mistaken. Linking a GT to your Xbox PERMANENTLY would be a dumb move, even for back then.

Oops, I stand corrected. The guests thing must just be for people to play simultaneously, but not required for separate individuals playing on the same box.

The GT system is nothing but a huge clusterfuck of confusion...

The quest accounts (i.e. Gamertag with appendages at the end, "TheArachnidVampire(1)") are pretty much just for people who have a friend or a sibling who want to play and doesn't have have a Gold Subscription. But, doing this limits both players from ranked matches and the like. But you can still play unranked online in certain games.

I believe the Silver Memberships act similar, due to not being able play online in ranked matches, either. Pretty much the only difference is that the other player has their own GT and gamerscore and can play without the gold account being online.

So, yeah, my brother needs to either buy an account or keep using free trials (sharing my account isn't an option because I'm selfish).

No you can't but you can have more than one account. But when you buy a xbox live membership it can only go on one

Say I get banned from live with current membership, Can I just buy a new membership or do I have to get a whole new xbox to play online again?

Just make a new email and new gamertag every month and you'll never have to pay.

if you don't mind not having gamer points

This is what they are doing with Fable 2. You can Bring your GT to a friends house and play Co-op with them.

The only restriction for accounts is back on the old Xbox, I believe the new one can have any number of live accounts.
